Real Madrid’s referee for Saturday’s Copa del Rey final cried after being under pressure from the club’s TV channel during a press conference.

However, they refute reports that they were considering resuming Saturday’s Clasico game against Barcelona in Seville (21:00 BST kick-off).

The game’s referee, Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, is the most recent official to face criticism on Real Madrid TV this season.

In a club video, Barca and Real’s win percentages were highlighted, as was the fact that the Spaniard had never played in the Champions League or Fifa tournament, and that he had made allegedly error-prone mistakes.

What I do is instruct my son to say that, like any sportsperson, his father is honest, above all, and capable of making mistakes.

Real Madrid TV’s video assistant referee (VAR) for the final, Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes, also expressed opposition to Real Madrid TV.

The 15-time European champions, however, later resisted participating in pre-game activities and held a press conference and training session.

Real Madrid made two critical statements as the drama progressed: “Real Madrid CF announces that our team has never considered withdrawing from tomorrow’s final.”

Out of respect for all the fans who plan to travel to Seville and all those who are already in the Andalusian capital, our club is aware of the regrettable and inappropriate statements made by the referees designated for this match, which were made 24 hours before the final.

Real Madrid believes that the best interests of football must prevail despite the hostility and animosity that the referees appointed for the final have shown once more today toward our club.

Real Madrid claimed that Spanish refereeing was “rigged” and completely discredited in a letter of complaint to the Spanish FA (RFEF) and the Spanish High Council for Sports in February.

De Burgos Bengoetxea stated in a news conference on Friday: “It’s not right what we’re going through, many of you, many of you, not just in professional football but also at the grassroots.”

Everyone should consider where we want to go, what we want from football and sport, and what we want.

The Spaniard has previously taken charge of Clasico encounters and also serves on the Uefa club and international competitions.

Have no doubt that we will need to start implementing much more drastic measures than we currently do, Fuertes added.

What is happening, we will not allow it to continue. You’ll hear from us soon.

Because we won’t continue to put up with what we are putting up, we are going to make history.

Hansi Flick, the Barcelona manager, later addressed the media with the same resounding message.

The German said, “It’s just a sport for me.” It’s just a game, they say. Only football, then. Protecting all parties involved in the game is our responsibility.

It’s unfortunate that something happened today, they say. Although there are some decisions made on the pitch that are emotional, we should be done with them after the game. There is a need to be something.

Real Madrid “had lost their head,” according to La Liga president Javier Tebas after the letter of complaint from February that came after Espanyol lost 1-0.

Real Madrid staged pre-game activities before their Copa del Rey clash with Barcelona after the match referee held an emotional press conference to criticize Real for his actions toward the official on their own TV channel.

Real called Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea’s complaints “unacceptable,” according to the VAR referee appointed to the final, and were echoed by the club’s television channel.

The Spanish champions canceled the press conference, the media’s usual presidents’ dinner, and a pre-game photo call.

On the eve of Saturday’s cup final in Seville, the Madrid club stated, “These statements… made in a premeditated manner 24 hours earlier against one of the participants in the final, demonstrate once more a clear and obvious hatred of these referees towards Real Madrid.”

Real, according to a source close to the news agency Reuters, saw the news conference as a “clear conflict of interest” and that they should change the refereeing team. They have not requested that the Spanish FA (RFEF) replace the officials.

A request for comment was not immediately responded to by RFEF.

Real Madrid decides not to speak at a press conference at the La Cartuja stadium, according to Cristiana Quicler.

When match referee De Burgos cried during a press conference after responding to the RMTV video, the final was thrown into chaos.

The video, which was made available on Thursday, depicts De Burgos’ career-spanning series of errors, according to RMTV.

The most recent edits by RMTV that criticize Spanish officials is released.

De Burgos said at the news conference, “When a child’s classmates tell him that his father is a thief, it makes you sick.”

He continued, highlighting his integrity and the difficulties that many officials face both professionally and at the grassroots.

Barcelona back ref protection

Due to the pressure they are subject to, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick stated on Friday that safety measures should be taken.

It’s just a sport, in my opinion. Only a game, really. It’s only football, Flick said at a press conference, “Our responsibility is to protect not only the players but also all the players involved in the game.”

“It’s unfortunate that something happened today,” he said. We should be done with it after the match, of course, there are some decisions that are emotional on the field. There is a need to be something.

Referees’ concerns about abuse were brought up by the Spanish football federation (RFEF) in February, citing the Real Madrid player Jude Bellingham’s case as an example of a backlash.

Real had also written a letter of complaint to the Spanish referees a few weeks prior after Espanyol won them 1-0.

Barca advised to “enjoy” the Copa finale.

Flick instructed his young team to “enjoy” Real’s final battle.

After winning the Spanish Super Cup in January against Real Madrid, the Catalans are hoping to land a potential quadruple this year.

Flick claimed that Barca are not necessarily the favorites at the moment, even though they won 4-0 in LaLiga last October and 5-2 in the final in Saudi Arabia.

“We have a really young team, and playing in the final against one of the best teams in the world is a great experience,” Flick said.

A final is unique because it doesn’t revolve around favorites.

We want to begin the contest tomorrow and vie for the title.

Los Blancos are four points clear of Barca at the top of LaLiga, having struggled this season, having been knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal in the quarterfinals.

Lamine Yamal, a young winger at the age of 17, leads the exciting Flicks’ exciting side, which also features Pau Cubarsi, Gavi, and Pedri among its young players.

Ronald Araujo, the captain of Barcelona, said, “I’m surprised by how incredible their mentality is.”

They seem to be playing in a final tomorrow, but these kids from La Masia [FC Barcelona’s youth academy] have surprised me greatly.

Eubank accuses Benn and team of ‘derailing’ weight cut

Chris Eubank Jr., who was fined £375, 000, accused Conor Benn and his team of “derailing” his weight loss.

On Friday morning, Eubank, 35, was over the middleweight weight limit by 0.05 lb.

The Englishman claims he underwent a difficult weight loss, but he is currently the favorite to defeat the smaller Benn as a regular middleweight.

“It hurts that I was 0 kg shy of the limit, and I will now have to give someone half a million.” You are dealing with people who are different from these. They removed the scales too early, according to Eubank.

They declined my request to go to the bathroom and urinate. People use these strategies to try to get under your skin and distract you from the goal, which is to succeed.

He continued, “They had an agenda; they wanted that money.”

The official weigh-in on Friday morning, which was attended by representatives from Matchroom, Boxxer’s promoters, and Benn’s trainer Tony Simms, was held by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC).

Eubank’s rehydration clause is something I’m not sure I’ll do.

According to the rehydration clause, Eubank will have to weigh in one last time on Saturday, around 8:00 BST.

Benn and Eubank are not permitted to gain more than 10 pounds from the 11-to-6-pound weight cap.

Benn, 28, did not expect to have any issues with the rehydration limit because he weighed 112 pounds.

Eubank claims that he is unsure of his strategy for the following 24 hours. If he falls short of weight, he will be fined once more.

Eubank remarked, “This is the peculiar circumstance in which I find myself.”

I must control what I eat and drink, or I can choose to do whatever I want, but I still need to get in the sauna tomorrow morning to sweat off 4 pounds.

Benn will fight against Eubank in two weight classes, and the unbeaten welterweight will receive the fine.

The pair’s 2022 fight will be canceled after three decades of their fathers’ conflict in the 1990s and two and a half years since Benn’s failed drug tests caused their feud.

Benn has always denied having an intentional doping habit, and his suspension was lifted in November 2024.

He claimed that his “arm will be raised” will be the only victory to celebrate despite Friday’s hefty fine and mental drain on Eubank.

He continued, “If they want to view this as their victory, then that’s great for them.”

More than 480 civilians killed in Sudan’s North Darfur over two weeks: UN

In two weeks this month, more than 480 civilians have been killed in attacks in Sudan’s North Darfur region, with some of the attacks being ethnically motivated, according to the UN.

The UN human rights office reported on Friday that “the actual number is likely much higher” and that at least 481 civilians have been killed in North Darfur since April 10.

Additionally, it described the region’s high rates of sexual violence, including those committed against young boys and girls, as “horrifying.”

UN rights chief Volker Turk stated in the statement that “the suffering of the Sudanese people is hard to imagine, harder to comprehend, and simply impossible to accept.”

North Darfur has turned into a crucial battleground for the conflict that broke out between the Sudanese army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by al-Burhan’s former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

The conflict, which the UN describes as the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, has resulted in tens of thousands of casualties.

“Range reports of sexual violence everywhere”

Between April 11 and April 13, one of the most recent bloody assaults took place at the Zamzam displacement camp. According to the UN rights office, that attack claimed the lives of at least 210 civilians, including nine medical professionals. Turnk cited reports of “women, girls, and boys being raped or gang-raped there or as they attempted to flee”

According to the UN, 129 more civilians were killed this week in El-Fasher City, Um Kedada District, and the displacement camp for the Abu Shouk.

According to the statement, some of the most recent attacks were “ethnically motivated,” with particular communities targeted.

The rising number of civilian casualties and the widespread reports of sexual violence, according to Turk, are horrifying.

Additionally, according to the UN, “dozens of people reported to have died in detention facilities run by the RSF or “while walking for days in harsh conditions in an attempt to flee violence” in detention facilities.”

Dire circumstances

According to the UN’s rights office, hundreds of thousands of civilians have been forced to flee their homes as a result of the conflict.

The displaced “face dire conditions” amid persistent restrictions on humanitarian aid for the needy, it said.

The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) earlier on Friday warned that due to funding constraints, it may have to reduce its food support in the coming weeks.

According to the organization, rations in areas where famine is possible have been reduced to 70% of a typical WFP ration (i.e., 2,100 kcal per day).

According to Turk, Turk’s claim that Turk’s continued attacks that target humanitarian workers and medical personnel also threaten the aid response.

He claimed that “medical workers are themselves in danger, and even water sources have been purposefully attacked, and that the systems to assist victims in many areas are on the verge of collapse.”

The UN’s assessment comes a day after UK Foreign Minister David Lammy warned that Darfur’s violence “could be the results of ethnic cleansing” and may constitute crimes against humanity.

‘He can even bite me’ – Evra wants Suarez for MMA debut

Patrice Evra, a former player for Manchester United and France, will make his mixed martial arts debut Friday, May 23 at PFL Europe Paris.

The 43-year-old quit playing football in 2018 and has trained with friend and PFL player Cedric Doumbe since 2016.

Evra’s opponent has not yet been announced for the Accor Arena fight.

Evra, who has 81 caps for France, tweeted that “they will pick my opponent.” They inquired about my face. Luis Suarez, I said.

I’ll have to pay out of pocket. He even bites me.

Suarez, who then played for Liverpool, was given an eight-game ban for racist abuse of Evra, who was playing for United in 2011.

Evra continued, “I love this game too,”’ she said in the PFL press release about the announcement.

“PFL Europe Paris will be an incredibly special night for me because I’ve won every major trophy in football and performed on the biggest stages around the world.”

They will also tell you that I’m prepared for this because I’ve been training alongside the best people in the world for years. Come see the spectacle at the Accor Arena on May 23rd because I’m going to put on a show there.

Between 2006 and 2014, Evra won five Premier League titles and the Champions League while playing 379 games for Manchester United.

He also played for a number of clubs in France and Italy, including Juventus and Monaco, before wrapping up his career with a quick stop at West Ham.

He has worked as a TV pundit since he retired.
