‘Senseless Violence,’ Atiku Condemns Borno Attack, Seeks End To Killings

At the death of five soldiers and 58 civilians in Daral-Jamal, a village along the Bama-Banki Road in the Sambisa Forest, former vice president Atiku Abubakar has condemned the Boko Haram attack in Borno State.

The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party candidate for president described the killings as senseless violence and called for an end to the killings in a statement on Sunday.

He expressed condolences to Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno State, and the families of the attack’s victims.

UN CHECKS OUT THE ABUSE OF 63 PERSONNES IN BOROUGH AND REQUIRES A QUESTION.

“The tragic killing of numerous people, including brave soldiers, in the most recent Boko Haram attack on Darajamal, Borno State, deeply saddens me. He said in a statement on X that this senseless violence is a painful reminder of the high price our citizens still have to pay.

“Governor Zulum, whose swift compassion in visiting the affected community is commendable, extends my sincere condolences to the bereaved families, the resilient people of Borno, and to the bereaved families. May Allah grant the loved ones’ comfort and the departed Al-Jannah Firdaus.

He argued that Nigeria must resolutely combat the threat.

We must rise up and confront this threat with renewed resolve and unity as a people. He further stated that the sacrifices of our soldiers and civilians must lead to stronger community security, greater collaboration, and a unwavering commitment to peace.

In addition to the resettled Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), the insurgents also burned down over 20 homes, vehicles, foodstuffs, and other valuables during the most recent attack.

Last Saturday, Governor Zulum visited the area to offer comfort to the 63 victims of the insurgents’ murders.

Following the Friday attack that left scores dead, Governor Zulun addressed the residents of Daral-Jamal.

He condemned the brutal attack and expressed his grief.

The UN also denounced the attack.

The Nigerian authorities were requested to have the attackers detained by the UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Mohamed Fall, in a statement.

He expressed his condolences to the victims’ families.

Trump Heads To US Open In Latest High-Profile Sports Outing

President Donald Trump is to attend the US Open men’s final on Sunday, adding the Grand Slam tennis tournament to a list of high-profile sports outings since beginning his new term.

The New York-born billionaire plans to join a host of other celebrities taking in the battle between top-seeds Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

It will mark Trump’s first appearance at Flushing Meadows since 2015 — when the then-presidential candidate and wife Melania were booed on arrival by the crowd.

Many are anticipating a similar welcome this time round.

While the Republican leader enjoys pockets of support in his native city, it is overwhelmingly Democratic.

Spanish star Alacaraz said Friday he plans to “try not to think about” the hubbub in the stands, but appreciated the attention it would bring to the sport.

“I don’t want myself to be nervous because of it, but I think attending the tennis match is great for tennis to have the president (at) the final,” he said.

Already, tight security is expected to be heightened with the US head of state in attendance.

Trump has attended a series of glitzy sporting events since retaking office in January.

He was booed again at the FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey but had a warmer reception at the Super Bowl and a number of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bouts, as well as the Daytona 500 NASCAR race.

Trump says he also plans to attend the first day of golf’s Ryder Cup later this month, while preparations are underway to host a UFC fight on the White House grounds.

Meanwhile, he is also hailing the 2026 World Cup jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico — and 2028 Los Angeles Olympics as part of what he claims is a “Golden Age of America” ushered in by his presidency.

The last sitting president to attend the tennis Grand Slam in New York — and the first in history to go to the US Open — was Democrat Bill Clinton, who watched the women’s final in 2000.

Trump was there too and had a cordial meeting with Clinton, according to pictures from the encounter.

Though Trump made his name in New York, he changed his residency during his first term from Manhattan to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

The 79-year-old has only intermittently returned to New York, but spent several weeks at his luxury Fifth Avenue condo last year while undergoing a historic criminal trial mid-campaign.

Sunday’s visit will be his first to the most populous US city of his second term.

He is, however, expected back in the city later this month to attend a baseball game on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, as well as to address the UN General Assembly on September 23.

Throughout their pregnancy, Emily and Patrick have been updating their fans. They recently participated in a special gender reveal live on television a few weeks ago.

He explained he believed they could reveal their plans during their segment because Emily received a bouquet of flowers and a card from her husband while she was on air.

How do we want to do this now, Patrick said, “Right, ok. So how do we want to do this now?” Then he jokingly inquired as to whether the reveal had caused an office bet.

Patrick watched as his wife inserted the cake with a look of anticipation as she honored Emily. As the pair’s teammates in the studio applauded, Emily cut a slice and lifted it out, revealing a blue sponge.

Saudi Arabia announces Damascus area reconstruction project to clear rubble

Saudi Arabia has announced a new project to aid in Damascus, Syria’s capital, to improve ties with the country’s new rulers.

An aid package that would help remove an estimated 75 000 cubic meters of rubble from the capital and its environs was announced by the state-backed King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center charity (KSRelief).

At a ceremony in Damascus, KSRelief’s director, Abdullah Al Rabeeah, described the organization as “honoured to inaugurate a number of humanitarian projects for the Syrian people,” including those that deal with food security, education, and health.

Additionally, the aid will fund the reconstruction of dozens of bakeries, Aleppo’s sewage and water infrastructure, and restore Damascus’ sewage and water infrastructure.

Raed al-Saleh, the minister for disaster management in Syria, stated in a post on X that the bilateral agreements would “affirm the strength of our two countries’ humanitarian and brotherly relations.”

Since the end of the government of former President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in late 2024 following a 13-year civil war, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other Gulf nations have supported Syria economically.

Late in July, Riyadh and Syria agreed to enter into a $6.4 billion investment and partnership agreement.

During the fighting, Damascus’ southern and eastern regions suffered significant damage, with entire neighborhoods being reduced to rubble. To relaunch the country’s economy, the new authorities in Damascus have resisted foreign investment.

According to its website, KSRelief runs or has completed 422 projects totaling more than $500 million in Syria. The majority of them concern food security and health.

Saudi Arabia has long supported the transitional regime in Damascus, led by transitional president Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former rebel who was based in Riyadh and made his first international visit there.

Saudi Arabia facilitated a meeting between al-Sharaa and Donald Trump in May, who later pushed for the lifting of all sanctions against Syria.

Saudi Arabia made a $2.9 billion investment in the nation in July, and it pledged to pay Qatar’s and Syria’s debt to the World Bank.
