PSG Thrash Real Madrid To Reach Club World Cup Final

Fabian Ruiz scored twice as European champions Paris Saint-Germain turned on the style in their reunion with Kylian Mbappe on Wednesday, thrashing Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup to set up a final showdown with Chelsea.

Ruiz and Ousmane Dembele scored inside the opening nine minutes to stun Real and silence the majority of the 77,542 crowd who were wearing white at the MetLife Stadium outside New York.

The Spanish midfielder added another before half-time and Goncalo Ramos got a late fourth as Luis Enrique’s side moved one game away from glory at FIFA’s new tournament.

Victory against Chelsea on Sunday would complete a campaign of unparalleled success for the Parisians, who won the French title and then the first UEFA Champions League in their history in May.

After blowing away Inter Milan 5-0, the biggest victory in European Cup final history, PSG began their Club World Cup bid by putting four past Atletico Madrid and the ease with which they disposed of Real here was striking.

PSG’s fluidity contrasted starkly with Madrid, who are a work in progress under new coach Xabi Alonso. Meanwhile Mbappe struggled to make any impact on his first start at the tournament and in his first game against PSG since leaving the French club a year ago.

The France captain was hoping for a different outcome against the team for whom he scored a club record 256 goals, and the defeat is a real blow to Real as they hoped to win the first 32-team Club World Cup to add to their record tally of 15 European Cups.

But PSG have improved without Mbappe and are now such a well-oiled machine that they appear unstoppable — it would be a big surprise if they failed to beat Chelsea.

Luis Enrique was without imposing centre-back Willian Pacho due to suspension following his sending-off against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, but that did not matter.

Lucas Beraldo slotted into the defence with ease, and the rest of PSG’s first-choice line-up was there.

 Day to forget for Mbappe

Real were missing central defender Dean Huijsen through suspension, while the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold was an added blow.

The return to the starting XI of Mbappe, who missed the entire group stage through illness, did not prevent young striker Gonzalo Garcia from keeping his place.

But the Spanish giants’ front line, completed by Vinicius Junior, made no real impact, such was the extent of PSG’s domination.

Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made two superb saves inside the opening five minutes, the first to tip away a Ruiz shot, and the second to deny Nuno Mendes from point-blank range.

Yet Courtois could not prevent Paris from scoring in the sixth minute, as Dembele pounced on slack defending by Raul Asencio. The Real ‘keeper saved at the forward’s feet but Ruiz converted the loose ball.

Three minutes later and the contest was effectively over when Antonio Rudiger failed to control a simple pass from Jude Bellingham, allowing Dembele to run through before finishing low into the corner.

Like his friend Mbappe, Dembele was starting for the first time at the competition having been injured. That was a 34th club goal since August for a player who is a serious candidate for the Ballon d’Or.

It was turning into a humiliating afternoon for Real as PSG got their third midway through the first half.

A deflected shot by Mbappe was easily held by Gianluigi Donnarumma, and no Madrid player touched the ball again before they were picking it out of their own net a minute later.

Dembele released Achraf Hakimi on the right and he squared for Ruiz, the Spain star taking a touch to hold off Fede Valverde before finishing.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia could have got a fourth before the interval, while Desire Doue had a goal disallowed for offside early in the second half.

But Real were not coming back, and Alonso opted to take off Bellingham and Vinicius just after the hour mark in a clear sign of surrender.

PSG then got their fourth after 87 minutes when Ramos controlled a pass from fellow substitute Bradley Barcola, turned and fired in.

Love Island’s Molly Marsh and Zachariah Noble split again just months after adopting dog

Love Island fans have been told tonight that former finalists Molly Marsh and Zachariah Noble have now split up again after having met on the ITV2 show two years ago

A couple who reached the final of Love Island together have split up, it’s been announced this week. Molly Marsh has shared that she’s no longer in a relationship with Zachariah Noble after starting a romance two years ago.

Molly, 23, and Zachariah, 28, met on the tenth series of the ITV2 show, which aired in 2023. They remained together after leaving the villa, though briefly separated last year before rekindling their romance months later. It’s now been announced that they have parted ways once again. Molly shared the news with fans through a statement that she posted on her Instagram Story this evening, with her suggesting to fans that they remain “friends”.

She wrote in her post: “I just want to confirm the rumours. Myself and Zac have split up and are no longer together. We have parted ways as friends and thank you all for your love and support of our relationship over the past 2 years.”

A source has told the Sun that “nothing bad” has happened between them. The source said: “They just made the decision to split on a mutual basis. The pair have no bad blood between them and will continue to be friends.”

The source added that the exes want to “cherish” the memories that they have made together. They concluded: “Sometimes relationships work, and sometimes they don’t but they want to continue to be friends and cherish the couple of years they have spent together and are both grateful for Love Island bringing them into each others lives.”

Molly and Zachariah were original islanders on Love Island in 2023, but the former’s time was cut short when she was dumped from the villa just weeks in. She left after Kady McDermott coupled up with Zachariah upon her arrival.

A twist for Casa Amor however saw Molly return just days after her departure. She then ended up recoupling with Zachariah and the pair later reached the final. They placed fourth, with Jess Harding and Sammy Root winning instead.

Molly and Zachariah continued their relationship after returning to the UK following the final. It was however announced in March last year that they had decided to separate, with the relationship said to have ended on “good terms”.

Just months later, it was reported that they were back together and they went on to move in together. Molly later opened up about the relationship and said that they were “definitely stronger” after taking some time apart.

She told OK! magazine last year: “When you think about it, we fell in love in reverse. When we were on Love Island we lived together, really, then you go your separate ways and get to know each other more. It was completely backwards.”

Molly also revealed at the time that as well as having moved in with each other, the couple had got a dog after getting back together. It was revealed that they had adopted a Doberman puppy named Scooby.

Sinner Powers Into Wimbledon Semi-Finals To Ease Injury Fears

Jannik Sinner eased pre-match injury fears to sweep past Ben Shelton in straight sets on Wednesday, setting up a Wimbledon semi-final against Novak Djokovic or Flavio Cobolli.

Sinner wore a protective sleeve on his right arm during his 7-6 (7/2), 6-4, 6-4 quarter-final victory against 10th seed Shelton in two hours 19 minutes.

But the 23-year-old, who hurt himself in the previous round against Grigor Dimitrov, battled through the discomfort to reach his second semi-final at the All England Club.

Sinner, who grimaced after returning one of Shelton’s serves in the second set, said after the match on Court One that he was on the mend.

“You know, when you are in a match with a lot of tension, you try to not think about it,” said the Italian when asked about his injury.

“It has improved a lot from yesterday to today. Yesterday, my day was very short on the practice court, 20 minutes with the coaches only.”

But he added: “This is no excuse. There is no better stage to play tennis and think I showed this today. Again, you know, the atmosphere helps me so much, so thank you so much for the support.”

The top seed had sparked fears he may have to pull out of the tournament after falling early in his fourth-round tie against Dimitrov.

The Italian top seed was trailing by two sets and on the brink of a shock exit when the Bulgarian pulled a pectoral muscle while serving and had to retire.

Sinner, a three-time Grand Slam champion, slashed his training schedule on Tuesday and had a scan to determine the extent of his injury.

The world number one, who has never reached the Wimbledon final, is the first Italian man to reach the last four at the All England Club multiple times, following his previous semi-final appearance in 2023.

Beaten by Carlos Alcaraz in an epic French Open final in June, when he blew a two-set lead and squandered three championship points, Sinner had been revitalised in his first three matches at Wimbledon.

He dropped just 17 games to equal a 53-year-old record for the fewest games conceded en route to the Wimbledon men’s last 16.

Shelton had surpassed his father and coach Bryan, who reached the Wimbledon last 16 31 years ago, but he was no match for Sinner, who is seeking to reach his fourth straight Grand Slam final.

The Italian ground his way through a gruelling first set lasting 52 minutes.

Shelton was also in the wars and the 22-year-old needed his left ankle re-taped late in the set.

Sinner broke in the 10th game of the second set to seize a two-set lead.

The third set was a tight affair, going with serve until the 10th game, when Shelton faltered.

Sinner needed three match points but celebrated when the American went long.

Michelle Collins pockets six-figure payday after shock EastEnders return boosts earnings

Actress Michelle Collins has seen a major financial boost following her EastEnders return, with her company It Worx Limited jumping majorly financially

Michelle Collins has revealed that her dramatic comeback as the iconic Cindy Beale in EastEnders has paid off not just creatively, but financially, with her personal company, It Worx Limited, seeing a major surge in earnings following her return to Albert Square.

The actress, 63, who founded the company in 1996 to manage income from her television work, saw its cash reserves jump from just £20,000 to nearly £200,000 in the year ending March 2024.

According to newly published Companies House records as seen by The Sun, she now faces a Corporation Tax bill of £69,694, suggesting her earnings from the period were roughly five times that amount.

Despite the financial success, Collins admitted she initially felt uncertain about reprising her role as Cindy after 25 years off-screen.

Speaking at the TRIC Awards at Grosvenor House in London, she said: “I didn’t know if people would be happy that she was back. I really didn’t know, you have to take that risk! But I think she’s gone down quite well.”

Since her shock return, following a twist that revealed Cindy had faked her death and lived under the alias Rose Sawyer in witness protection, Collins has thrown herself back into the soap’s most outrageous storylines.

Now entangled in messy relationships and dramatic feuds, Cindy’s latest arc includes an affair with her ex-husband George Knight’s son, Junior.

Collins says audiences have embraced the character’s villainous streak. “I think people are liking her,” she said. “People don’t want to see nice Cindy. She was nice for a while, and they don’t want to see nice Cindy – I promise you, they don’t.

“Sometimes I’ll pick up the scripts and I’ll go, ‘Oh no, you can’t. Really? Having an affair with his son? No, it’ll be fine, people love her.’”

The EastEnders star’s business has soared(Image: PA)

Michelle originally joined the cast in 1988, before returning in 1992 for a longer stint. Her 2023 return marked a major moment in soap history, with the twist that she had never actually died in prison as previously believed.

Outside of EastEnders, the 63-year-old is preparing to debut a one-woman show titled Motorhome Marilyn at the Edinburgh Festival this summer.

The play follows a Marilyn Monroe impersonator on the road, and Collins has been granted a month-long break from filming to take part.

While she’s remained quiet about how Cindy will temporarily leave the Square, she hinted that details of her character’s exit will be revealed soon.

Hamas agrees to release 10 captives as Israeli attacks kill 74 in Gaza

Hamas says it has agreed to release 10 Israeli captives as part of continuing efforts to reach a ceasefire in the besieged and bombarded Gaza Strip, but warned that ongoing talks for a truce were “tough” due to Israel’s “intransigence”.

The Palestinian group said on Wednesday that the ceasefire talks, spearheaded by key mediators Qatar and the United States and held in the Qatari capital Doha, have several sticking points, including the flow of desperately needed aid, withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and “genuine guarantees for a permanent ceasefire”.

Hamas official Taher al-Nunu said the group agreed to the latest truce proposal and “offered the necessary flexibility to protect our people, stop the crime of genocide, and allow the free and dignified entry and flow of aid to our people until we reach a complete end to the war”.

He added that the areas Israeli troops should withdraw to as part of the first phase of a ceasefire had to be drawn up in a way that does not affect Palestinian lives and “paves the way for the second phase of negotiations”.

The comments come as Israeli forces continued to pound various parts of the enclave, killing at least 74 people on Wednesday, eight of whom died while waiting for GHF aid.

“Unfortunately, this has become the norm: characterised by the ongoing bombardment and forced starvation and dehydration. People are getting killed trying to get food,” Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Gaza City, said.

The number of Palestinians killed at the US- and Israeli-backed GHF sites has surpassed 770, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

“From day one of GHF operations there’s been an orgy of killing either by the Israeli military or the documented incident of GHF officers opening fire.”

The killings also come as health officials once again plead for the entry of much-needed fuel as hospitals are on the verge of collapse and patients’ lives are at risk.

Nasser Hospital, the main health facility in southern Gaza, issued a desperate warning as its fuel supplies run dry, saying it has entered “the crucial and final hours”.

“With the fuel counter nearing zero, doctors have entered the battle to save lives in a race against time, death, and darkness,” the hospital said in a statement.

“They work in operating rooms without air conditioning, the boiling heat, their faces are sweating, their bodies are weary of hunger and fatigue. But their eyes are still burning with hope and determination.”

Gaza’s already battered healthcare system has repeatedly come under Israeli attack throughout the assault. Hospitals and clinics have been bombed or damaged, medical staff killed or forced to flee, and vital supplies cut off.

‘Quake bombs’

The World Health Organization (WHO) says there have been more than 600 attacks on health facilities in Gaza since the conflict began in 2023.

The besieged health sector is “on its knees” with severe shortages of fuel and medical supplies, and the constant influx of mass casualties.

Just 18 of Gaza’s 36 general hospitals are partially functioning, according to the UN agency.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump, who has met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House, said there is a “very good chance” of a ceasefire in Gaza this week or next.

Earlier, Israel’s military chief Eyal Zamir said in a televised speech that “conditions have been created” for the advancement of a deal that is set to see the release of 10 captives – and the bodies of nine others.

Despite the prospects of a possible ceasefire, Israel has launched a barrage of missiles targeting densely populated residential areas in Gaza City.

Al Jazeera’s Mahmoud said an estimated 20 bombs were dropped on buildings in the Tuffah neighbourhood.

“These were ‘quake bombs’, they shook the buildings,” he said.

Israeli forces also launched another major assault in battered northern Gaza, specifically Beit Hanoon, after five Israeli soldiers were killed in a surprise Hamas attack on Tuesday.

The army has in recent days issued numerous forced evacuation orders for residents of northern Gaza, an area that has come under repeated ground and aerial assault throughout this deadly war.

This includes Shati refugee camp, an area in the north of Gaza that was struck overnight in an attack that killed at least 30 people.

A local, Mohamed Jouda, recounted the attack.

“We were sitting at home, around midnight. Suddenly, the house collapsed on everyone inside – children, adults, and elderly people in their 70s and 80s,” Jouda told Al Jazeera as he sat on the rubble of his destroyed home.

Another survivor, Ismail al-Bardawil, said the attack “felt like an earthquake”.

“A whole neighbourhood collapsed,” he said from the densely populated camp west of Gaza City, where structures are built right next to each other.

India cruise past England to clinch T20 series win

Emirates Old Trafford’s fourth T20

England 126-7 (20 overs): Dunkley 22 (19), Radha 2-15, Charani 2-30

India 127-4 (17 overs): Mandhana 32 (31), Verma 31 (19), Wong 1-18

India won by six wickets to lead the five-match series 3-1.

With just six wickets to spare, India cruised to a historic T20 series victory over England at Old Trafford.

By the end of the powerplay, the tourists had already beaten their target by a score of 126-7 in the fourth T20.

In a stand of 56, openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma relentlessly attacked the England bowlers, and while their run-rate slowed as they left, India remained in command.

Jemimah Rodrigues and Captain Harmanpreet Kaur sat under a brief spell of pressure, but they eventually settled and fled home.

After Harmanpreet was dismissed, Rodrigues was given the task of securing India’s first women’s T20 series victory in England by scoring the winning runs in the 17th over.

England had earlier gone nine overs without a boundary in their innings, and with Sophia Dunkley’s top score of 22, they were never likely to post a winning total.

Radha Yadav and Shree Charani, both left-armers, scored two wickets each for Spin, again proving their demise.

Any momentum for England is stopped by India discipline.

England chose to bat first, as they did in the third T20, but there was no reversal of that success at Manchester despite a fantastic opening stand.

After Danni Wyatt-Hodge snuck into Deepti Sharma for her third single-digit series score, Yadav made a fine diving catch.

With wickets falling consistently throughout the innings, England found themselves in a perpetual rebuild, which was typical of India’s field efforts.

The largest of the 35-piece partnership between Tammy Beaumont and Alice Capsey was won by Radha, who sent her way with a few words and a long look.

As India’s spinners bowled with impressive discipline and faced off against the home batters, that wicket came two balls after what proved to be England’s final boundary until the 19th over.

The final 10 overs, to be exact, saw a less than ideal combination of very few runs and regular wickets, 5-58, 5-58, 5-58, 5-58, and 5-58 respectively.

India begins to advance with their first offensive.

India could have gotten ahead of the competition had their goal been a modest total. Instead, they attacked.

Between them, they only needed four overs to surpass the fours that England had managed throughout their entire innings, with Mandhana serving as the team’s chief aggressor.

England will point to lost wickets and varying match situations, but their approach and India’s were completely different.

By the time Verma was caught in the deep, the tourists could afford to take their time, and even losing Mandhana a few overs later did little to aggravate the situation.

A few quiet overs in the middle were unimportant to India because of Harmanpreet’s experience and Rodrigues’ class, which proved to be.

England were desperate for something, and a poor evaluation of Harmanpreet’s lbw shout demonstrated their muddled thinking.

Despite this series, India have consistently demonstrated the clarity of thought and focus England are striving for under their new regime.

What they said, “India have become so much better,”

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s captain, said, “I am really proud of my team for the way that we played this series and how everyone has contributed.”

Before coming here, we had excellent camps back home, and we worked on all of our plans there. We all understood our roles and behaved accordingly.

Tammy Beaumont, England’s captain, said, “We weren’t ruthless enough with the bat. A very soft dismissal of myself included, which is unworthy of this level. India deserves praise for their excellent bowling and constant play, but we didn’t adapt quickly enough.

“We want to put on a show at Edgbaston, but we haven’t yet given a full performance.”

Alex Hartley, a former England international bowler, said in the BBC Test Match Special: “I fear watching this series and watching England at the moment.
