Tunisian court hands lengthy prison sentences to ex-officials

According to the Tunis Afrique Press (TAP) news agency, a Tunisian court has sentenced 21 well-known politicians and former top officials, including opposition leader Rached Ghannouchi, to jail terms.

The rulings on Tuesday represent President Kais Saied’s most recent expansion of his crackdown on critics and political opponents.

Ghannouchi, the Ennahdha party leader, was given a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison. Former prime minister Youssef Chahed and former minister of foreign affairs Rafik Abdessalem Bouchlaka were among the others who received a 35-year absentia sentence.

Nadia Akacha, Saied’s former chief of staff, was also given a 35-year prison term in absentia, the TAP reported.

The defendants are accused of conspiring against internal state security and forming and forming a “terrorist” organization.

The former foreign minister, Bouchlaka, criticized the sentences on Tuesday, saying that the Tunisian government has “becomedy in front of the world with its immaturity, recklessness, and craziness.”

In a social media post, Bouchlaka wrote that “this lying, deceptive coup regime will leave like the dictators, tyrants, and fraudsters that left before it.”

Since Saied suspended the elected parliament and formally ruled by decree in 2021, many opposition leaders, journalists, and critics of him have been imprisoned, according to the opposition.

Said has been accused of using the police and the judiciary to harm his political rivals by critics. Many warn that the democratic gains made in the Arab Spring’s birthplace since the revolution that overthrew Tunisian leader Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in 2011 are being steadily resisted.

Saied refutes the accusations and claims that his actions are legitimate and intended to end years of chaos and widespread corruption.

Ennahdha disputes the group’s accusations. After the uprising of 2011, Ghannouchi and former President Beji Caid Essebsi reached a power-sharing agreement to bring Tunisia back to democracy.

Ennahda’s Tunisian headquarters was shut down by the Tunisian government last year. Gannouchi, 84, is already serving time in prison for political-related offenses.

He was given a 22-year sentence in February for “plotting against state security.”

Love Island star slammed over ‘dangerous’ advice as video divides opinion

Former Love Island star Frankie Davey, who appeared in Casa Amor two years ago, divided opinion after sharing some controversial advice with fans on TikTok recently

Former Love Island star Frankie Davey has divided opinion after sharing controversial advice that has been branded “dangerous” by some amid a holiday abroad. He shared his recommendations for how to avoid getting burnt whilst out in the sun.

Frankie, 24, who appeared in Casa Amor on the ITV2 show back in 2023, has been posting updates on TikTok from a trip to Rhodes recently. It included him sharing his thoughts on suncream, which he said he hasn’t used in years. The professional boxer spoke about tanning in a video uploaded to the platform just days ago, with the post captioned: “The sun is the key to life, don’t be afraid of it.” Over the video itself, Frankie wrote: “How to Tan & NOT Burn.”

He said in the video: “So I’m in 40 degree heat and I don’t wear suncream – how don’t I burn? Firstly, I haven’t worn suncream now for a good three or four years. I’m quite against it. I think it’s full of chemicals and toxins that your body…well, isn’t good for your body, basically.”

Frankie added: “But how don’t I burn? Firstly, I do wear a natural SPF and that’s coconut oil. Yesterday, I was in the sun for five, six hours, peak sun. UV 11. I still didn’t burn.”

He continued by saying that he went out to Greece with a “base layer of tan” from the UK before claiming that wearing sunglasses outside means that your body won’t “produce a chemical to protect your skin”. He also urged viewers to listen to their bodies and seek shade or cover up when their skin feels hot.

Frankie said: “Another thing is if you’re eating a lot of inflammatory foods that inflames your body and then when the sun beaming on your skin also cause you to burn.” He then concluded by summarising his advice.

He said: “That’s pretty much it. Build it up. Slow and steady exposure. Morning and night. Then you can start building it up to peak sun times. Use a natural SPF. Get some shade when you feel like you’re burning. Eat fairly clean, when you can. Don’t wear the sunglasses when you’re trying to tan.”

The post has amassed more than 16,000 likes but divided opinion in the comments section. Some people questioned his advice, with one person reacting: “This is dangerous information.” Another said: “Please update me in 20-30 years.”

A third viewer responded: “Social media boxer vs medical professionals – I think I know whose advice I’ll follow.” Another wrote: “Well… that’s enough tik tok for one day.” One person said: “Coconut oil will help you tan and burn.”

Others expressed concern over the prospect of developing skin cancer. One person wrote in the comments section of the post: “You don’t have to burn to get skin cancer. Any tanning is skin damage that can cause cell changes.”

“Didn’t wear sunscreen either, now battling skin cancer… melanoma to be precise worrying if I’m still going to be here for my daughters…. Don’t be ignorant, life has a funny way of teaching you lessons from old mistakes,” someone said.

Although Frankie’s opinion proved controversial to some, not everyone felt the same. Agreeing with him, one person said: “I am the same. I stopped wearing sun protection couple of years ago. I don’t burn and get a beautiful tan.”

Someone said: “Havent worn sunscreen for decades. In my 40s now with better skin than most 30 year olds.” Another viewer commented: “I’ve never used it.” One person reacted: “Finally someone with some sense about sun cream.”

The NHS states that sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer. It recommends using sunscreen that has an SPF of at least 30 to protect against UVB and at least 4-star UVA protection as part of its sun safety advice. It adds: “Do not rely on sunscreen alone to protect yourself from the sun. Wear suitable clothing and spend time in the shade when the sun’s at its hottest.”

Joao Pedro Brace Sends Chelsea Into Club World Cup Final

Joao Pedro, a new signing, scored twice in his first start for Chelsea on Tuesday to earn a spot in the Club World Cup final.

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain will face off in the final on Sunday at the MetLife Stadium as the Brazilian striker put the finishing touches on the match in deadly fashion in the 18th minute of the final-four match.

The 23-year-old made his debut off the bench in the quarter-final victory over Palmeiras and was signed from Brighton and Hove Albion for a reported £60 million ($79 million) just last week.

In place of Liam Delap, who was suspended, he received his first Chelsea start-up front.

Joao Pedro made 36 appearances for the first team before joining Watford in 2020, refusing to celebrate either goal against the team with which he started his career.

The outcome puts an impressive run of form together for Fluminense, who defeated Borussia Dortmund in the group stage, Inter Milan in the last 16, and Al-Hilal, who were Manchester City’s top scorers, in the quarter-finals.

With their exit, Chelsea will have the chance to win the first 32-team edition of the Club World Cup, which they won back-to-back against Brazilian opposition.

One of Europe’s superpowers will always have the best chance of winning the trophy, with the final now guaranteed to be between two of the top five UEFA Champions League winners.

Due to the significant budgetary gap between the other three teams that have left the United States, Fluminense coach Renato Portaluppi had called his team the “ugly duckling” of the tournament.

Caicedo back &nbsp

Levi Colwill and Delap, who have been suspended by Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca, were replaced by midfielder Moises Caicedo after he was banned for the win over Palmeiras in Philadelphia.

In a game that was watched by 70, 556 people outside of New York City on a hot afternoon, the Premier League team was simply too strong for their opponents.

After Silva cleared a Pedro Neto cross, Silva fired a wonderful strike to give them a commanding lead into the bottom of the box.

Joao Pedro raised his hands uncontrollably toward the Fluminense fans massed behind the goal before curling a shot past veteran goalkeeper Fabio into the far corner.

Hercules almost equalized in the 25th minute after the match-winner against Al-Hilal in the final eight. The Rio de Janeiro team was a persistent threat.

After he and German Cano made a one-two save, Marc Cucurella returned to clear off the line and lifted the ball over goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

Ten minutes before the break, Rene’s set-piece delivery hit Trevoh Chalobah’s arm in the box, which gave Fluminense a penalty.

Following a VAR check, French referee Francois Letexier overturned the decision, however.

After Fluminense had sacrificed one of their three centre-backs to send on an additional attacker, Chelsea were awarded the second on 56 minutes.

Joao Pedro, who scored 10 goals for Brighton in the Premier League last season, put together another impressive finish in off the bar after Enzo Fernandez’s release on the break.

Chelsea had other chances to get goals, but the new boy’s double struck was enough.

Ozzy Osbourne could make surprise return to the stage just days after farewell gig

Black Sabbath star played his final gig at special Birmingham show at the weekend – but we can reveal exciting move which could see him perform again

Ozzy Osbourne may have bowed out at his farewell show but it might not be the last time you see the Black Sabbath star perform. The band have trademarked their name in virtual reality, which means they could return on stage as holograms.

ABBA have already used avatars for their London show, Voyage, which has been running since 2022 and features younger versions of themselves. Black Sabbath filed documents 20 years ago and could do the same. These papers trademark use of “production and presentation of animation and other special effects”. A number of other artists have taken similar action.

Ozzy, 76, who has Parkinson’s, performed his final gig with Black Sabbath in Birmingham on Saturday. The singer had to sit on the stage at Villa Park, a stone’s throw from his terraced childhood home, as he ran through five solo hits including Mr Crowley and Crazy Train.

Then he was joined by the original Sabbath line-up of guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward. The group – credited with inventing heavy metal after forming in 1968 – played together for the first time in 20 years for the Back To The Beginning concert. They finished with War Pigs, N.I.B, Iron Man and Paranoid. An emotional Ozzy said: “You have no idea how I feel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

This week, one of his pals said Ozzy was plotting a new album and in April wife Sharon, 72, when asked if she would consider an ABBA-style return for him, said: “Sure I would, yeah. “Technology keeps moving on and on. You can do incredible things now, so what you could do in five years will be even better. You never know what the opportunities are.”

The show features avatars of a young Bjorn Ulvaeus, Agnetha Falt- skog, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson performing hits like Dancing Queen and Waterloo. It launched in 2022, but is still one of the capital’s top attractions.

KISS have unveiled digital versions to replace them when they stop touring. The estates of late stars George Michael, Freddie Mercury and Tina Turner have also filed papers with digital plans.

Queen guitarist Brian May said his band has talked “very seriously” about holograms of Freddie – but he won’t be an avatar while the rest of the group is having the days of their lives. He said: “While we’re here I want to play live. I don’t want to be a hologram. I want to be me.”

Last year Oasis filed paperwork to secure trademarks that would cover “virtual music group” and “avatars”. Noel Gallagher previously said he’d up for the band returning as holograms after being amazed by ABBA’s avatars. He said: “It was great – an hour-and-a-half gig. The holograms looked that real I thought they were actors. The way they walk to the stage is so realistic.” He told pal Matt Morgan’s podcast: “If anybody wants to do an Oasis one, give us a shout. I would be bang up for it. Come up with a figure and I’ll say yes or no.”

Celtic’s Welsh may require shoulder surgery

SNS

After a shoulder injury that has recurred, Celtic defender Stephen Welsh may need surgery.

The 25-year-old defender injured himself in Cork City’s pre-season friendly game on Tuesday.

Manager Brendan Rodgers later declared, “He’s done his shoulder once more.”

It has appeared four times, according to the spokesperson. You’re aware that he might need surgery if it keeps coming out like that, so you have to give it a shot.

Celtic has previously loaned out Welsh, most recently to Mechelen in the first half of 2025. He has made 107 competitive appearances all in all.

Luke McCowan, a regular first-team player, and Colby Donovan, a 18-year-old defender, both scored in Celtic’s 2-1 victory over Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Rodgers described Donovan as “very competitive and I like him.” He moves very far and is very aggressive.

He’ll get a little less rash as his career develops, but I like his personality, his dominance, and his ability to play football, which you need to have when you play for Celtic.
