Laurence Fox faces trial next year accused of encouraging damage to ULEZ cameras

Actor Laurence Fox will face trial next March for encouraging people to damage ULEZ cameras. The 47-year-old appeared at Croydon Crown Court on Friday regarding social media posts he made on X in 2023.

He has denied encouraging or assisting people to damage ULEZ cameras through social media messages from September 12 to October 4. A trial date has now been set for March 23.

There will be a pre-trial review on February 27 but Laurence is not expected to attend that one. The trial will take place a few weeks later on the charge of intentionally encouraging or assisting the commission of an either-way offence.

He was arrested back in October 2023. A spokesperson told the Mirror: “On Wednesday 4, October officers arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of conspiring to commit criminal damage to ULEZ cameras and encouraging or assisting offences to be committed. He was arrested in Stockwell and has been taken to a South London police station where he remains in custody.”

At the time of his arrest, his house was searched. In the video, Laurence points around his home.

He told viewers: “Look how many coppers there are around my house”. There were multiple uniformed police officers wearing blue plastic gloves and holding clear plastic bags.

“Look at them. Coming to steal everything, take everything out of my house. That, ladies and gentleman, is the country that we live in,” he said in the video, which was shared online.

Lawrence returned to Twitter following his arrest, once he was released. He wrote on social media: “Hello. I’m back. Had to get a new phone as the 6 police who were barrelling into my house yesterday have taken every electronic device, including my boys’ iPads. Which is just plain malicious. I have a lot to say about the last few days. Speak in a bit. Never give in.”

He is best known for his roles in Lewis, Victoria and 2001 psychological horror film The Hole, Fox also released two music albums before embarking on a political career and founding the right-wing Reclaim Party in 2020.

The Sentencing Council confirmed that encouraging someone who threatens damage to property can result in the same sentence as a person who is making the threat themselves, which is up to 10 years in prison.

The Ulez was put in to monitor what cars enter and exit the special zones around London. For those vehicles that don’t meet the minimum emissions standards, they are required to pay a £12.50 each day or face a fine.

Love Island have announced three new bombshells will arrive on the show tonight – in a never before seen twist. For the first time in Love Island history, the boys will have their antics livestreamed back to their girls in the villa.

On tonight’s episode, Harry gets a text, which reads: “Boys, clear your schedules and get ready to leave the Villa! #BroTime #BeersAndBants,” and immediately they head out for a lads night out – with a twist.

Whilst the girls are back in the villa garden, they realise the boys night out will be there for them to watch. For the first time in Love Island history, the girls will have the boys’ antics streamed straight into the villa and the boys have no idea.

“We’ll get to see how they act!” Alima says – but should the girls be worried? The boys are chatting amongst themselves about their own couples, which doesn’t go down too well with the girls – but things get a lot worse when three new bombshells arrive.

Emily, Malisha and Yasmin soon arrive, with Harry asking the new bombshells: “Are you coming back with us?” Malisha then says: “Of course I am!” with Yasmin asking how things are going between them and their girls.

With no idea they’re being watched, will the truth leave some of the Islanders shocked?

24-year-old Malisha is a teaching assistant from Broxbourne and she’s looking for someone tall dark and handsome. Asked what she wants, she said: “A tall, dark, handsome man. He has to be very tall. I’m 5ft7/ 5ft8. I want to be able to wear heels and feel feminine. He has to be funny, but not too funny; I have to be the funniest. I want someone that’s caring and a bit loving, but then I like someone that can give me a bit of rude banter. I like to be a bit cheeky.”

Insisting she isn’t worried about stepping on toes, she added: “If I want it, I’m going to get it. I always get what I want. I’m an only child, so of course I’m going to get what I want. I’m in there for myself. I want to find a man. Actually, I want to find a husband.”

Commercial Banking Executive Yasmin, 24, from London says her biggest ick is a guy that’s “stingy”. Explaining what she would want in a man, she added: “I’m looking for a guy who is fit, has a nice body and who is funny with a bit of banter.”

Insurance Development Executive Emily, 24, from Aberdeen admits she’s “really stubborn”. She said: “I am always right and I don’t argue unless I know I’m right. If someone’s arguing with me and I know I’m right… watch out! I’m not very good at being the one to say ‘sorry’, I’m stubborn and set in my ways. If I make my mind up I’m set, which can be good and bad. I’m decisive, 100%.”

Farrell close to Saracens return from Racing 92

Former England captain Owen Farrell is close to finalising a sensational return to Saracens.

The 33-year-old is keen to move back to England after a difficult season at French side Racing 92.

While a deal has not yet been signed, there is an expectation an agreement will be reached between Saracens and Racing to allow Farrell to move this summer.

Farrell spent 16 seasons in north London in his first spell, winning six Premiership titles and three European Cups.

He took a break from international rugby after the 2023 Rugby World Cup, where he surpassed Jonny Wilkinson as England’s all-time record points scorer and led the team to third place.

While reports say Farrell will sign a five-year contract as a player-coach with Saracens, sources close to the situation say it will instead by a two-year deal as a player only.

Saracens are looking for cover for the injured Alex Lozowski and are allowed dispensation in the salary cap to replace him in their squad for next season.

Speaking last month, Sarries boss Mark McCall said Farrell would be an asset on and off the pitch were he to return.

“He doesn’t have to play 10, he can play other positions as well,” McCall said.

“So for our young talents who are developing, it could be a great thing to have him there. Owen’s so willing to share his knowledge and his experience with younger players.”

However, regardless of the exact terms of Farrell’s return, and how long he plays for, a transition into coaching at Saracens appears inevitable.

Farrell’s father Andy also moved into coaching at the club following his cross-code playing career and has gone on to become one of the sport’s premier coaches, working internationally with England, Ireland, and the British and Irish Lions.

If Farrell’s return to the Premiership is confirmed in time for next season, he would be eligible for England’s upcoming tour of Argentina and the USA.

England sources have so far played down the prospect of him being fast-tracked into the squad at this stage.

Real Madrid sign Argentina record-breaker Mastantuono

Reuters

Real Madrid have signed Franco Mastantuono, the youngest player to ever feature in a competitive match for Argentina, from River Plate.

River Plate will receive 45m euros (£38.5m) after the 17-year-old’s release clause was triggered, which sets a new record for the Argentine club.

The attacking midfielder has regularly played for River Plate’s first team over the past two seasons and is the youngest player to have scored in their derby with Boca Juniors.

Last week, he became Argentina’s youngest debutant in a competitive fixture when he was brought on as a late substitute in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying win against Chile.

His six-year deal begins on 14 August, the day he turns 18.

SPFL calls for more banning orders for ‘irresponsible and selfish’ conduct

SNS

The Scottish Professional Football League says there is a greater need for football banning orders to tackle “unacceptable” conduct at matches.

In a statement, the league body highlighted the “dangerous, irresponsible and selfish behaviour” from a minority of fans in Scotland.

The SPFL pointed to the use of smoke bombs and flares as a particular concern and welcomed more discussions with Police Scotland and the Scottish government about how best to crack down on the issue.

It comes after Scottish FA chief executive Ian Maxwell insisted he wants to avoid a situation where supporters are banned for using pyrotechnics.

The SPFL confirmed attendances have risen for a third consecutive season and thanked fans for their “incredible support”.

Crowds across all leagues, cups and play-off matches totalled more than 5.3 million, a rise of nearly 185,000 from the 2023-24 season.

“We will be having further meetings with key stakeholders over the summer to review the most recent season and look ahead to 2025-26,” the SPFL statement ends.
