The Cross River State chapter of the party announced the suspension in a statement signed by James Otudor, its public relations secretary. It will take effect immediately.

The State Working Committee (SWC) meeting on October 15, 2025 in Calabar, reportedly held the decision, citing the statement.

It claimed that the SWC found Usani guilty of engaging in anti-party activities, wilful insubordination to constituted authority, and other acts that could undermine the ADC’s reputation, cohesion, and electoral prospects after extensive deliberations on several petitions and credible reports.

The decision was made after extensive analysis of Dr. Usani’s actions, utterances, and conduct that was found to be grossly incompatible with the party’s unity, discipline, and advancement both in Cross River State and across the South-South geopolitical zone, according to the statement.

ADC Constitution

The party claimed that the suspension complied with the ADC constitution’s and disciplinary code’s requirements, pending the results of investigations and disciplinary proceedings brought on by the appropriate party organs.

The party claimed that the committee had expressed dissatisfaction with Jackie Wayas’ appointment as Deputy National Publicity Secretary because she had not worked with the state leadership since.

Since no consultation with state leaders was conducted in advance, it was decided that her appointment was not necessary for the party in Cross River State.

The committee also urged the state’s leadership to reshuffle her with a “competent, credible, and media-savvy individual” with a demonstrated commitment to the party’s ideals and that her loyalty appeared to be “skewed against the unity and growth of the ADC” in the state.

Coalition

The statement addressed concerns over the actions of some members of the coalition movement who had publicly stated their intentions to join the ADC but failed to do so months later.

It warned that the party would not accept a dual membership or permit the use of its platform by those with multiple partisan goals.

Within the next seven days, the statement read, “All coalition leaders and intending members are directed to finish the formalization of their membership at their respective ward levels, ending on Saturday, October 25, 2025,” according to the statement.

Security personnel arrived early, dispersing the crowd, and firing tear gas and live rounds. Eagle Square, Unity Fountain, and the Three Arms Zone were all well-deployed, as evidenced by this.

Unity Fountain, the march’s starting point, was blocked off while access to the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, and the Three Arms Zone was blocked. Heavy-armed personnel patrolled the area, with heavily armed personnel denying entry to motorists and pedestrians.

A group of soldiers and police officers also shot tear gas at a crowd outside the Utako secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists. Witnesses claimed that the crowd did not participate in the demonstration but quickly dispersed when security personnel entered.

Prior to that, Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court of Nigeria had issued an interim injunction halting demonstrations in Aso Rock Villa, the National Assembly, the Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.

Prior to this, police had warned that any violation would result in arrests and that incitement would be tracked using digital evidence.

Sowore refuted Kanu’s assertions that a valid injunction existed, and questioned why no protesters had been ordered to release him. Additionally, he revealed that after the injunction was formally served, there were more than 100 attorneys ready to challenge it.

The #FreeNnamdiKanu protests’ Unity Fountain in Abuja have been blocked by security forces made up of the police and army.

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was among the protesters who had gathered in the country’s capital on Monday and demanded his release.

On October 20, Sahara Reporters’ activist Omoyele Sowore announced a protest march to the presidential villa in response to Kanu’s continued detention.

Channels Television crews were monitoring the protest as early as 8:09 am.

The protest’s starting point was seen being blocked by police personnel. Additionally, the fully-armed security guards who patrolled the area prevented both pedestrians and motorists from getting inside.

In addition, all roads in the nation’s capital were blocked before reaching the federal secretariat and the three-arms zone.

A crowd (not protesters) gathered around the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in the Utako area when a combined team of the army and police teargassed them.
