Pantami Asks FG To Reward Teen Star Nafisa Like Super Falcons, D’Tigress

Isa Pantami, a former minister of communications and digital economy, has demanded compensation from the Federal Government for Nafisa Aminu, a 17-year-old Nigerian student who won the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals’ top English language performer.

Pantami applauded Nafisa’s outstanding accomplishment in a post on his official X handle on Tuesday. According to him, Nafisa deserves praise like the heroic Super Falcons and the D’Tigress, who were given $100, 000, a three-bedroom apartment, and a national award from the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

The former minister said, “I firmly recommend that Nafisa deserves $100, 000, a three-bedroom apartment, and a national honor from the Nigerian federal government.”

“She also deserves a reward comparable to what the football and basketball players’ technical and coaching coaches were given. We must still take education very seriously and acknowledge the contributions of our citizens.

To take home the top prize, Nafisa, a student at the Yobe State-based Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), defeated over 20, 000 contestants from 69 nations, including native English-speaking individuals.

Pantami attributed her success to a combination of her parents’ and the schools’ support, as well as her natural talent, dedication, discipline, and determination.

He cited Nafisa’s success as evidence that, with the right opportunities and a supportive environment, Nigerian students can compete and succeed internationally.

“She excels without a doubt because of her natural talent, dedication, discipline, and the support she received from her parents and the schools she attended,” he said.

“Nafisa’s success highlights her as a shining example of Nigerian students’ potential to excel internationally with the right opportunities and enabling environment,” she said. More government support is needed for this kind of feat.

Police Arrest Two Sisters, Couple In Abuja Over Fake Kidnap Plot

Two sisters and a couple have been detained by federal authorities in the nation’s capital for pretending to be abducted.

Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for FCT Police Command, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

She claimed that the sisters conspired with two other people to kidnap their parents and demanded $5 million as a ransom.

One Mr. Innocent, a resident of Jikwoyi Phase II, reported to the Jikwoyi Police Division on July 30 that his 16-year-old daughter, Miss LeadWay Innocent, had left home on July 18th, 2025 to take an examination at the government secondary school in Karu, Abuja, and had not returned, according to the statement.

Unknown individuals subsequently rang him and demanded a ransom for her release.

The Jikwoyi Division Divisional Police Officer (DPO) conducted a covert investigation right away after receiving the report.

The complainant’s phone number was found to be located at a residence in Jikwoyi Phase II, according to coordinated intelligence gathering and digital tracking.

Operatives then drove to the location where they discovered Miss LeadWay innocent, who was a member of one woman, Mrs. Tina Mayowa, the wife of Mr. Mayowa Adedeji.

No signs of distress were seen between the two people, who were seen eating and conversing freely.

“Miss Joy Innocent, the alleged victim’s elder sister, and her boyfriend, Mr. Mayowa Adedeji, were arrested as a result of subsequent investigations,” according to the report.

According to Adeh, Joy and her boyfriend, who is legally married to Mrs. Tina Mayowa, planned to kidnap her younger sister LeadWay Innocent in an effort to defraud their father of $5 million, according to the Command’s findings.

She claimed that LeadWay Innocent was a proactive participant in the investigation as well as aware of the plan.

While Joy remained at home and feigned ignorance, watching her parents’ agony and emotional distress as they struggled to raise money for the alleged ransom, the police claimed that she willingly stayed with the suspects throughout the course of her alleged abduction.

“All four suspects have voluntarily confessed to the crime and are currently being detained by the police.” When the investigation is finished, they will be in court.

This betrayal and manipulation, especially one committed within the family, is a strong condemnation from the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Ajao Saka Adewale.

Gov Alia Orders Crackdown On Killers Of Two Benue Youths

Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue State, has vehemently condemned the recent killing of two Igede youths on the Awajir-Oju road.

According to security reports, the victims were tragically attacked while riding a motorcycle from Oju.

Additionally, Governor Alia disapproved of a separate incident involving a separate attack on the Nyifon community in the Buruku Local Government Area’s Mbaikyongo Ward.

Youths from the Mbayaka community in Kusuv, who are also members of the Buruku LGA, reportedly carried out this incident due to a miscommunication related to a boat accident.

The Governor reaffirmed that “Benue State is achieving security stability,” and that he would not tolerate any actions that would compromise the peace we hoped to maintain.

Flooding: Lagos Govt Calls For Calm After Downpour

Following the recent heavy rains, the Lagos Government has assured all state residents that the state has implemented resilient infrastructure to stop flash flooding.

Tokunbo Wahab, the commissioner for environment and water resources of Lagos State, made a statement on Tuesday letting people know that a new weather advisory from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency for the next three days was warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Wahab claimed that because the major collectors are unable to contain the run-off created by the extremely heavy rainfalls, it is possible that some parts of the state may experience flash flooding.

He cautioned residents to stay calm and to avoid panic because Lagos is a coastal city with its own peculiarities and the effects of climate change.

The lagoon’s water level will increase as a result of the heavy rainfalls, according to the commissioner, which will cause all collectors to be unable to discharge water because Lagos is a coastal state.

He claimed that flash floods, which may result from high currents, are also possible in lagos and areas abutting rivers and lagoons.

He demanded extra vigilance in light of the holiday season that the majority of students and pupils are currently experiencing.

Wahab also reiterated the earlier caution against wading through floods, warning that it is possible for cars to become submerged and people to be swept away by such severe floods.

He cautioned people against dumping their trash in the drains as the rain falls, not to mention the possibility that it would lead to flash floods and the removal of the refuse.

The Commissioner claims that to prevent runoff from rainfall, the state is accelerating the year-round cleaning and maintenance of all drainage channels.
