CAF Champions League: Pyramids Stun Mamelodi Sundowns With Late Equaliser

In the CAF Champions League final first leg, Wili el Karti scored the equalizer in stoppage time to give South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

In the 94th minute, El Karti stunned a sold-out crowd of 50, 000 at Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria by nodding a long cross past goalkeeper Ronwen Williams at the far post.

After 54 minutes, Sundowns’ Brazilian Lucas Ribeiro put an end to a 1, 080-minute Champions League goal drought by scoring from close range on the second try.

Goalkeeper Ahmed el Shenawy parried his first shot, but the keeper made no mistake when he made a second mistake and slammed the ball into the top of the net.

On June 1, the teams square off in Cairo, with Sundowns and Pyramids competing for the first time to win the most prestigious African club competition.

Pyramids also defeated Sundowns in the group stage of the previous Champions League, and the team won the match in Cairo thanks to a Teboho Mokoena goal.

We dropped too far back, according to Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso, who was unhappy with the performance of the Sundowns in the final ten minutes.

“We can score in Cairo and win the return match there,” he said, “but conceding so late is obviously disappointing.”

We must combat this in the second leg because the Pyramids’ midfielders were very aggressive.

The coach, who lost the previous Champions League final to Tunisian Esperance, said, “I’m not making excuses, but the pitch was very slippery and did not suit our style.

Krunoslav Jurcic, the former Croatian international, pleaded with Egyptian football supporters to watch the return game on Sunday.

Only a small number of spectators cheered the Cairo outfit on in a 30, 000-seat stadium when they defeated another South African team, the Orlando Pirates, at home in the semi-finals.

“Stop by the stadium and support us,” We are promoting all of Egypt. Your support may be a big factor, Jurcic said.

“This final is not over yet, but we had energy today and knew about Sundowns.” In the final Champions League game, Sundowns defeated us in Cairo.

Sundowns have made 17 previous appearances, including a victory over Zamalek of Egypt in the 2016 title decider, while Pyramids are only playing in the Champions League for the second time.

Sundowns will shift their attention to Group F’s Club World Cup in the United States, where they face Fluminense, Borussia Dortmund, and South Korean side Ulsan.

Alleged Budget Padding: Opposition In Nigeria Performing With Spectacular Lack of Capacity — Analyst

Professor Okey Ikechukwu, the executive director of the Development Specs Academy, has criticised the country’s opposition political parties’ performance.

Ikechukwu described the opposition as “performing with spectacular lack of capacity” during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise&nbsp on Saturday.

The alleged unlawful insertion of projects into the 2025 budget was the subject of a non-governmental group called BudgIT.

The National Assembly inserted 11, 122 projects valued at $6.93 trillion into the 2025 Federal Government budget, according to a statement signed by a senior communications officer, Nancy Odimegwu, on Tuesday.

Okechukwu lamented, however, that the opposition’s budgetary assessment fell short of what it was supposed to.

He added, “This country’s political opposition has been performing without a disconcerting degree.” They publish press releases to make fun of something.

You will gather the data, employ professionals or consultants, address the country, and address the state-of-the-nation in a state-of-the-nation address.
“And the people who serve them put together national resources for the year 2024 in their name and for the people.” This hasn’t been put into practice out of that many.

What BudgIT is currently hearing from the opposition, civil society organizations, concerned citizens, etc.

The public affairs analyst, however, advocated for better collaboration between media and civil society organizations to promote accountability by government institutions.

Have we asked ourselves whether the typical Nigerian is aware of the existence of a budget, whether he will feel bad about it if there is one, or whether anyone will express serious grievances if they don’t make one for the next three years? Therefore, he continued, “There are so many things that need to be clarified,” which are not occurring.

He added that the budget’s alleged inclusion was in theory unlawful.

‘Patently Fabricated’, EFCC Denies Alleged Pre-Defection Meeting Between Olukoyede, Governor

Ola Olukoyede, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, alleges that the group’s chairman, Ola Olukoyede, met with a former South-South governor and his predecessor 48 hours before they left the All Progressives Congress.

Paul Ibe, a spokesperson for former vice president Atiku Abubakar, made the allegations during a recent interview with Channels Television, which followed.

Ibe, who was a guest on Seun Okinbaloye’s Politics Today on Thursday, claimed that the EFCC Chairman and Solicitor General had a meeting with a South-South region governor 48 hours before they made their APC-decamped. He also asserted that the meeting took place in a government residence in South-South Georgia.

Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta State, and Ifeanyi Okowa, his successor, resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party in April.

The EFCC responded to the claim by calling it “unfounded” and calling it “patently fabricated” in a statement released on Friday.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, is outraged by Mr. Paul Ibe’s allegation that Ola Olukoyede, the executive chairman, and an unnamed politician held a covert meeting with him, which is untrue.

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, Seun Okinbaloye’s Politics Today on Channels Television’s Seun Okinbaloye bared his mind on various hypotheses, conjectures, and assumptions relating to opposition politics and defections.

His allegations that the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, and the Solicitor General of the Federation had a meeting with an unnamed governor forty-eight hours prior to his transition to the All People’s Congress, APC, are patently false and infamatory are, however, in bad taste. Olukoyede has stated in the statement that the EFCC is “fully wired against partisan tendencies” in numerous forums.

Around 40 motorcycles and a to be determined number of rustled cattle were said to have been recovered from the bandits, besides operational weapons and ammunition.

Danmusa explained that the crack troops attacked the terrorist positions on May 23 at around 8:50 am, engaging them in a fierce gun fight.

He claimed that the terrorists used their livestock as a shield to flee into the dense bushes and rocky terrain because of the intensity of the attack.

He continued, “The troops pursued the fleeing terrorists relentlessly, including those who were trying to escape by crossing a river.”

AK-47s and others recovered

Following extensive mop-up operations, the troop was able to successfully seize a number of hostile items, including a pump-action rifle, 21 AK-47 magazines, and 17 Motorola Communication (MC) radios.

While operations are still ongoing, the military will keep all the recovered items in its custody for as long as is necessary.

The 17 Brigade Strike Group’s soldiers received praise after the successful operation, according to the Katsina State Government.

Governor Dikko Radda praised the soldiers’ unwavering commitment, bravery, and professionalism while speaking at the State House.

He reiterated his administration’s support for the Nigerian Armed Forces in their ongoing efforts to bring stability and peace back to all affected communities.

The case was reportedly the result of an Abuja-based international businessman’s report filed in July 2023 that Muhammad defrauded under the false pretense of being a shipping agent, according to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja.

“Muhammed misrepresented himself to the complainant, leading to the signing of a contract to facilitate the movement of ten high-end vehicles, valued at $307,500.00, between the UAE and Nigeria, through designated registered shipping companies,” according to investigations.

“Muhammed received the entire payment through a third-party account at FCMB owned by Kano resident Anas Usaini, who had established trust, which was later used for money laundering in Dubai.

“Muhammed gave the complainant a forged bill of lading for the vehicles upon receipt of the payment, which the complainant later ceased to contact.” He was detained in Dubai on April 15, 2025, and has since been extradited to Nigeria to face federal court charges, Adejobi said in the statement. “This is a significant success in the fight against transnational financial crime.
