VIDEO: Tinubu Saddened That Opposition Is In Disarray – Akpabio

President Bola Tinubu is upset about the state of the opposition parties in Nigeria, according to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

He made the remarks on Wednesday during the commissioning of the recently constructed Arterial Road N20 interchange bridge.

The President is interested in seeing a vibrant opposition, Akpabio said. When he observes the disorganized opposition, it depresses him.

According to him, members of both the PDP and Labour Party are experiencing internal crises because they “cannot manage small parties yet want to run the country.”

Senator Neda Imasuen’s confirmation that she had earlier left the Labour Party for the APC was also confirmed by him.

Nigeria Woos Brazilian Investors As Trade Drops From $9bn To Under $2bn

The Federative Republic of Brazil investors have been contacted by the Nigerian government to entice them to make investments in the nation’s economy.

This is in response to the country’s trade sagging to $ 2 billion from the $ 9 billion it was in 2015.

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, stated at a business forum in Abuja on Wednesday that Brazil’s exports to Nigeria, from machinery to poultry, exceeded $ 900 million in 2017. Less than $ 900 million was exported, primarily oil, cocoa, uraia, and sesame, by Nigeria.

The two nations, in her opinion, underutilize their investment opportunities for better trading.

Brazil and Nigeria are not new countries. We have deep cultural, diplomatic, and historical ties. However, having a global economy that is rapidly changing requires more than just familiarity. To create structure, unlock scale, and pursue concrete outcomes is when we need to act.

By positioning the Nigeria-Brazil corridor for growth in the 21st century, we mean more trade, better trade, goodwill, clear frameworks, measurable impact, and co-investment.

The total trade between Nigeria and Brazil is currently just under $ 2 billion, which is a sharp decline from the $ 9 billion it was a decade ago. This indicates two things: first, that we have allowed opportunity to pass by us, and second, that the possibility of a rebound is real and well within our reach. Last year, Brazil’s exports to Nigeria totaled $ 970.000, moving from machinery to poultry. Less than $ 900 million was exported, primarily oil, cocoa, Uria, and Sesame, according to Oduwole.

She praised the significant reforms being carried out by President Bola Tinubu’s government and assured the Brazilian government that the Nigerian government was ready to conduct business.

Speaking at the Nigeria–Brazil Business Forum, Vice President Shettima

Our primary responsibility at the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment is to facilitate transactions as well as to track transactions. We are working on significant structural reforms, unifying exchange rates, eliminating the fuel subsidy, ratifying the Investments and Securities Act, and introducing frameworks to unlock capital across key sectors under President Bola Tinubu’s renewed Hope Agenda.

These are already displaying results, they say. In the first quarter of 2025, Nigeria’s non-oil exports increased by nearly 25%, reaching nearly $1.8 billion. Last October, Brazil was our top destination for non-oil exports. And this demonstrates two things: first, that there is a need, and second, that if the strategy is followed, the Nigeria-Brazilian corridor could serve as a testbed for African and Latin American trade on an international scale.

“Let me briefly discuss our priorities, agriculture and agro-industry. Rice, cassava, sugar, and dairy products are all irrigated value chains. The Honorable Ministers responsible for these portfolios are in the room with us. Digital Trade: Nigeria is proud to be the African Continental Free Trade Area, the co-champion of digital trade.

Our Creative Economy: Our cultural exports, including film, fashion, music, and food, are growing, and we are investing in cross-border e-commerce, digital identity systems, and there is room for Brazil’s FinTech and logistics solutions. In Lagos and Sao Paulo, “we see room for co-production, licensing, and intellectual property monetization,” she said.

Alleged Money Laundering: EFCC Witness Says Yahaya Bello, Co-Defendants Never Paid Firm For Property

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating an alleged money laundering case involving former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, and Segun Adeleke, the second prosecution witness, has claimed to have never paid for a property owned by Efab. &nbsp,

Umar Shuaib Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu are the other defendants.

Adeleke continued throughout the day’s proceedings by adding that he never had any contact with the three defendants throughout the property transactions.

The witness, who works for Efab Property Limited and is a manager, claimed he had no knowledge of any of the three defendants when asked to confirm whether any of their names were on any of the transaction documents.

Prior to the trial, First Prosecution Witness PW1 Fabian Nwora had previously confirmed to the court that neither of the three defendants in the case had ever transferred funds to the account of his business, Efab Property Limited.

Nwora claimed to know the former governor, but he maintained that he was unaware of the transaction being discussed.

He claimed he started negotiations with the property, but Segun Adeleke, the EFCC’s second witness (PW2), helped bring them to an agreement.

Nwora testified at a previous hearing that he had been informed that Shehu Bello and EFAB Property had a deal happening on a property at No. Shehu approached him for the property at 1 Ikogosi Street in Maitama, it should be noted.

Adeleke, the PW2, reiterated that Shehu Bello showed an interest in the property in which he was given the brief in 2020 while being examined by the Prosecution Counsel, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN).

The EFCC lawyer also inquired about some documents that Nuhu Muhammed received for a property in the Federal Capital Territory’s Gwarinpa neighborhood.

The witness’ confirmation that the said Nuhu Muhammed purchased one of the detached bungalow units after receiving the documents.

The witness’s own testimony, alleged by the attorney for the defense, Joseph Daudu (SAN), raised objections at that point, claiming there was a clear disconnect between the documents sought to be tendered and the facts themselves.

The Judge overruled the objection, which the Prosecution claimed was erred by the prosecution.

The witness later confirmed that he had testified before Justice Emeka Nwite at the Federal High Court while being cross-examined by the defense attorney.

He acknowledged that he had to take the decision after the transaction had begun and that he had not even begun it.

Daudu, SAN, testified to the witness that he had claimed that funds for the alleged property at Gwarinpa were immediately transferred while giving evidence to Justice Nwite.

He continued, claiming that the process was completed in two installments and had now self-contrayed before Justice Anenih.

The witness later admitted he did not know Nuhu Muhammed despite claiming that it was in two tranches and that he had receipts.

Mrs. Williams Abimbola, a different witness, was subpoenaed for the Kogi State Government House statement of account as well as the Certificate of Identification.

The defense attorneys promised to respond to the document as necessary during the trial.

Alleged Shadow Govt: Judge Warns Parties Against Contempt

In response to his alleged planned shadow government, a professor of political economy, Pat Utomi, has been given a letter of caution from Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court Abuja to abstain from any acts that could threaten the suit’s outcome.

Justice Omotosho argued that the law requires parties to refrain from proceeding further until they are aware of the extent of a suit’s pendency.

The judge added that any party who engaged in such unlawful behavior would always have consequences and would not be reluctant to revoke any actions taken by any of the parties in the course of the case.

At the resumed hearing in the lawsuit brought by Utomi, the sole defendant, by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Akinlolu Kehinde, the DSS’s attorney, complained that the judge’s caution was in response to a request for an order to maintain the status quo because there have been new developments since the lawsuit was filed.

The judge ruled that because the parties were aware of the suit’s pendency, an order was unnecessary even though the defendant’s attorney, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) objected.

Justice Omotosho chose to hear the main lawsuit along with the defendant’s preliminary objection, saying he would not grant any interlocutory restraining orders.

The judge informed the parties that he had invited seven senior attorneys from the six geopolitical regions to serve as amici curiae and to give the court their legal opinions on the case.

He claimed that because of the nature of the case, which had no known precedent, he made the decision to seek opinions from seasoned law experts.

The judge named those who had been invited, including Professor Uchefula Ugonna Chukwumaeze, the Vice Chancellor of the Imo State University (IMSU), and former NBA president Joseph Daudu (SAN), Professor Ademola Popoola of the Obafemi Awolowo University, and Professor Uchefula Ugonna Chukwumaeze, the former NBA president.

Other notables include Yabubu Maikyau (SAN), a former NBA president, and Professor Dakas C. J. Dakas (SAN), a former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Jos, Joe Kyari Gadzama (SAN), and Mrs. Miannaya Essien (SAN).

Justice Omotosho remarked that parties’ lawyers would receive advice from the court’s friends so they could respond.

The judge then adjourned the case until July 10 to hear the preliminary objection and the substantive suit.

Utomi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate from 2007 in the DSS, was sued for allegedly establishing “a shadow government” in the nation.

The court was requested to declare the action a constitutional attack.

The security service argued in the lawsuit filed on May 13 that Utomi’s action was intended to stir up unrest and abolition.

Nigeria Nears Exit From FATF Grey List – NFIU

Following the implementation of significant changes to the country’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing systems, the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) has stated that the country is on track to leave the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list.

Following the FATF plenary session in Strasbourg, France, NFIU Director Hafsat Bakari revealed this in a statement.

Wale Edun, the minister of finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, led the delegation of Nigeria to the meeting.

Countries on the FATF’s “grey list” are those whose anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing systems are in decline.

To avoid negative economic and reputational effects, nations on the list are expected to address these gaps as soon as possible.

The NFIU claims that various branches of government coordinated their efforts.

The National Security Advisor, the Interior Ministry, the Justice Ministry, and the Office of the President are just a few of the organizations.

The implementation involved multiple organizations, according to Bakari, who also serves as the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Anti-Money Laundering’s secretariat lead.

The Department of State Services (DSS), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) are just a few examples.
