6.1 Magnitude Quake Hits Indonesia’s Central Papua

No initial reports of casualties were reported after a 6. 1 magnitude earthquake of magnitude 64.1 hit Indonesia’s Central Papua province on Friday, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicentre of the earthquake was 28 kilometers (17 miles) south of Nabire, in the Central Papua province, which is located on the Indonesian-half of the large Pacific island that is part of Papua New Guinea, according to the USGS.

No casualties have been reported from the earthquake, according to Abdul Muhari, a spokesman for the national disaster mitigation agency.

According to a statement from Abdul, “Initial monitoring also discovered broken glass in an airport, collapsed ceilings in a governor’s office, a damaged bridge, and power and telecommunication networks shut down.”

Local residents who rushed outside immediately were woken by the eerie rumble.

“The earthquake struck on Thursday at 3 o’clock (GMT)].” I ran outside with other family members while I was sound asleep, according to Cicilia Mamman, 37, who was also an AFP reporter.

The earthquake was described as 6. 1 magnitude and 10 kilometers in length, but Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency upgraded to a 6. 6 magnitude magnitude after a previous 6. 6 kilometer reading.

As of 7:30 am Jakarta time, Daryono, the agency’s head of earthquake and tsunami mitigation, disclosed on X that 50 aftershocks had been recorded, with the largest of which had a magnitude of 5. 1 .

Due to its position on the “Ring of Fire,” a vast archipelago, Indonesia frequently experiences earthquakes.

In addition, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, the agency’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, is present. Over the incident, Ogbonna’s family has been inpologise.

He claimed that the death report was brought to his attention in Borno State, where he was a participant in a head-of-agency retreat organized by the Federal Ministry of Justice.

Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesman, made this known in a statement released on Friday.

At 10 a.m., CN Ogbonna was supposed to lead his officers on some scheduled engagements. m. On September 18, 2025, his officers arrived at his hotel room in the company of the hotel staff, and they received numerous knocks at his door and calls to his phone line that remained unanswered.

According to Babafemi, one of the hotel staff’s unsuccessful attempts to force or open the door from the outside led to the discovery of the Commander’s lifeless body through a window that had to be opened by the hotel staff.

Alerted by law enforcement

He continued, “The police command in the state was immediately alerted, and the Commissioner of Police personally visited the scene while the police continued to investigate the cause of death.”

The agency’s Chairman/Chief Executive has since instructed ACGN Mathew Ewah, the Zonal Commander of Zone 14 of NDLEA, to relocate to Calabar in order to assist with the police investigation.

Anti-Corruption Campaigner Blames Societal Failure For Misbehaviour Among Nigerian Youths

Corruption Not In My Country, the initiative’s creator, Akin Fadeyi, attributed societal failure to the rise in anti-social behavior among young Nigerians.

He appeared on Channels Television’s breakfast program, The Morning Brief, on Friday during an interview.

According to Fadeyi, the founder of the Akin Fadeyi Foundation, a recent report from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) found that 14.3% of Nigerians between the ages of 15 and 64 abuse drugs and other substances.

Fadeyi warned that the trend points to a self-destructive path for youth, warning that the figure is only a “microcosm” of the problem.

He remarked that “the potential for greatness is in every young person’s heart.”

He remarked, “Youth is not a phase; it is a revolution that is afoot.”

Fadeyi added that society must now ask, “What have we done wrong?,” adding that the issue was in urgent need.

He added that, despite being disciplined, young people who use drugs can still commit crimes, including sexual assault on their parents.

“The illness is already gangrenous,” he said. A very urgent situation is being handled by us. The anti-corruption campaigner claimed that what we have done wrong as a society as a whole has failed these youths.

Poor parenting

Fadeyi also questioned whether parents were raising respectable children or neglecting them through the use of mobile devices and money rather than through parental neglect and weak societal values.

He made reference to reported instances of parents beating teachers who disciplined their students, with the result that school administrators were unable to impose discipline out of fear of backlash or cult-related violence.

Fadeyi remarked that society was moving “rapidly south” as a result of this lack of accountability.

No young person believes in rebellion and drug abuse as the best course of action because no one has serious intentions for their future. People must choose whether or not to pursue meaningful growth.

Otherwise, he continued, “We are heading for a suicidal society.”

Ogun Govt, Gbenga Daniel Renew Face-Off Over Road Reconstruction

The senator representing the Ogun East Senatorial district, Gbenga Daniel, has yet to resign due to the state ministry of works and infrastructure’s alleged failure to “stop work” on a road infrastructure that the senator allegedly helped the state’s Sagamu region recover from.

Steve Oloyede, the senator’s media aide, claimed the move was motivated by politics.

The state government quickly responded to the report that it had stopped a federal road project in order to settle political disputes with the project’s facilitator, calling it an egregious falsehood.

The Ogun State government stated in a statement that the governor, Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, had requested that Minim and Tonye Nigeria Limited follow all legal instructions and obtain government approval because the road involved is a state road.

The state government requested permission from the contractor after learning about it, which was being repaired by Governor Abiodun, and provided a description of the work schedule that would allow the state government to remove the road from its schedule.

The state government requested from the “writers of the fake news” to release any material legally objectionable material accompanied by a letter from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Yusuf L. O., informing the contractor to stop operations because the State Government had not obtained the necessary authorization or approval prior to the start of the process.

No one can carry out any repair work on a road without getting the necessary permission, the statement read. As a result, a state government that wants to repair a federal road must first get the permission of the federal government.

“Nigerians will recall that the Ogun State Government was unable to carry out any repairs on federal roads, including the Abeokuta-Sango Ota road, for a long time due to Babatunde Fashola, the state’s then-Minister of Works, who had refused to grant the state’s request. The fake news’ creators made the claim that the Federal Government had approved the construction of an Ogun State highway in their total ignorance.

How can anyone compare asking a contractor to obtain the necessary approval before working on a state road to stopping the project because of alleged political hostility, if not for the outright mischief they committed on behalf of their drowning principal? Without getting the necessary approval, how can you work on a state road, or any road at all?

Hon. Hon. Hon. was a former federal lawmaker who was questioned by the statement on February 1, 2025. In addition to other projects, Adewunmi Onanuga requested permission to begin construction on four rural roads, including Sokanmade Road, Ewuga, Oko and Ada Road, Simawa, Ita Maro to Ilara Road, and Alhaja Ogunsanya Street, Irolu.

Court Stops EDSIEC, Edo Govt From Conducting Planned LG By-Elections

The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) and the state government have been prevented from conducting planned local government by-elections in the state’s 59 wards by an Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City.

Following a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ex-parte motion, Justice Mary E. Itsueli, who is currently serving as a vacation judge, granted the order on September 16, 2025.

In the lawsuit B/247M/2025, the PDP’s attorneys, Oluwole Osaze Uzzi, Michael Ekwemuka, and P. W. Akwuen, requested permission to request judicial review of EDSIEC’s decision to conduct by-elections to fill councillorship positions.

Any attempt to make their seats vacant be against the party’s argument that the councillors’ terms are valid up until September 2026.

Justice Itsueli also requested that the applicant’s Chief Judge of Edo State be notified of the decision to transfer the matter to a regular court, setting the return date for September 30th, 2025.

The lawsuit also includes the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Edo State.

The PDP requested an order granting the applicant’s request for judicial review of the first respondent’s decision to hold elections in 59 wards allegedly to fill vacancies in their legislative seats or offices sponsored by the applicant until September 2026 in the enrolment order that our correspondent visited.

In addition, the PDP requested that the court grant “An Order that the Respondents stay further action and be restrained from conducting the election or taking any further steps in connection with the planned Local Government by election in their respective Wards, particularly as it relates to the seats/offices of the duly elected Councillors,” pending the hearing and determination of the Originating Motion on notice for judicial review to be filed pursuant to the grant of leave.

The Court granted the applicants’ requests for judicial review of the first respondent’s decision to hold alleged fill-fill vacancies in the legislative offices/seats of Councillors sponsored by the Applicant until September 2026 after carefully considering the applications and submissions of the PDP’s attorneys.

The Court also directed that the Respondents are prohibited from holding any further elections or taking any other actions in connection with the planned Local Government by-election in each of their wards, particularly in regards to the seats/offices of the duly elected Councillors, pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion on notice for Judicial review to be filed pursuant to the grant of leave.
