Tom Grennan left fans gobsmacked after bringing out Melanie C, The Zutons, KSI and Ella Henderson at BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend. The Bedford-born hitmaker headlined the festival three years after playing the BBC Future Sounds Stage.

Thousands of music lovers packed into Sefton Park on Friday to see him perform his biggest hits including Let’s Go Home Together, Little Bit Of Love and Lionheart.

Tom, 29, was joined by Spice Girls icon Melanie to perform her Number three hit, When You’re Gone, originally sang with Bryan Adams. Meanwhile, he sang Valerie (2006) with The Zutons.

Just before taking to the stage, Tom made a huge announcement. Over on Instagram, it was announced that Tom had racked up one billion UK streams for his music on songs such as Higher, Let’s Go Home Together and Little Bit of Love.

Reflecting on his achievements, the Bedford-born legend said: “Morning people, what a beautiful day by the way. I’m heading up to Liverpool, ’cause today’s the day, I headline Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

“Remembering the past eight or nine years and how crazy they have been. But remembering really today, the moment I pressed send on Something In The Water.

“Hoping that someone at BBC Introducing would hear it. And now look, eight or nine years later, we’re headlining the gaff. I just want to say thank you to everybody who’s been on the journey with me from the beginning to now. This is just the start, but tonight is a big one. If you’re coming, Liverpool, I’ll see you there. Thank you so much for Radio 1 for believing in me from the beginning.”

Speaking to the Mirror this week, The Zutons’ frontman Dave McCabe said of the smash hit, which was covered by Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson in 2017: “”It was really good, but I didn’t realise at the time, you don’t sit there and think ‘This is going to be huge’, at the time, we’d already had a huge hit with it, we’d sold over 200,000 singles which is a lot.

“”But when that [cover] started getting traction and going big, the band kind of started falling apart – and it wasn’t because of that. You’d look at that and be like ‘God, you’ve got to write another one of these,’ you can’t force anything like that. I think it all happened at a cushy moment because we were falling out as a group, and then that went big and it kind of buried us.

“I think being on a major label, the pressure does get to you, you don’t realise it.” Reflecting on the cover, he said it was “good” but had no idea it would take off so quickly.

“I didn’t realise, no one did, that she was going to die. When she did, it was kind of immortalised even more.

“I don’t even see it, is it our song anymore? It’s this other thing now.” Amy tragically died just four years after the release of Valerie, aged 27.

It was confirmed that the singer who was found unresponsive at her home in Camden, north London, died from alcohol poisoning.

Fiona Phillips beams in first photo in a year as she opens up on Alzheimer’s diagnosis

Former breakfast TV presenter Fiona Phillips has been photographed for the first time in over a year as she speaks out about her Alzheimer’s diagnosis ahead of her book release

Fiona Phillips has been photographed for the first time in over a year after taking a step away from the spotlight. The former breakfast TV presenter, 64, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2022 and shared her diagnosis with the public a year later.

She is now set to open up on her health and life since the diagnosis in her new book, Remember When: My life with Alzheimer’s. Fiona has been receiving the support of her husband Martin Frizell, who recently stepped down as his role of This Morning boss to spend more time with their family.

Martin has helped her write the book, which will be released in July. Fiona was last photographed in public at Kate Garraway’s late husband Derek Draper’s funeral in 2024.

To mark the upcoming release of her book, Fiona beamed in a new photo. She is also set to open up on her gradual loss of memory and confusion while discussing the early warning signs.

Martin, who has been married to Fiona for 26 years, stepped down from his ITV position in February to take care of Fiona and has also shared his experience in the book.

According to the NHS, Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia in the UK. Dementia is the name for a group of symptoms associated with an ongoing decline of brain functioning and it can affect memory, thinking skills and other mental abilities.

The exact cause of Alzheimer’s disease is not yet fully understood. Speaking about the new book earlier this year, Fiona said: “I hope this book can show people a little about what it is like to live with Alzheimer’s.

“How frightening and confusing it is. But also how much life can still bring joy and be valued. And if you or someone you love is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, I hope this book brings you some comfort. I want you to know, you are not alone.”

Fiona announced in 2023 that she had been diagnosed with early onset dementia, after initially thinking she was having menopause symptoms when she first started experiencing “brain fog and anxiety”.

She already had first hand experience of Alzheimer’s having cared for her parents after both of them were also diagnosed with the condition.

The TV star has made two documentaries on the condition in 2009’s Mum, Dad, Alzheimer’s And Me, about her family’s history of dementia, and My Family And Alzheimer’s (2010).

Fiona quit TV in 2018 after she started to suffer from anxiety, having presented GMTV from 1993 to 2008, before going on to head up a number of documentaries and episodes of Panorama. She was also one of the Mirror’s longest-serving columnists.

Her husband Martin announced in November he was stepping down from his role as editor of ITV’s This Morning after more than a decade.

He said: “Next year I’m expecting my family priorities to change, so I need to free up time for them. I love my team at ITV and will miss them, and the thrill of live telly, but it’s an always on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week commitment, and I won’t be able to do both.”

When speaking out about her condition, Fiona previously said she has three daily injections as part of drug trials at University College Hospital in London.

She said: “I’ve always spoken out about Alzheimer’s whether through a book, a documentary or lobbying prime ministers and now that it’s turned up on my doorstep I’m not for stopping. It’s devastated my family and it’s the biggest health and social care challenge we face as a country.”

Kneecap reveal Glastonbury slot uncertain as they slam Government after terror charge

Irish rap trio Kneecap have taken to the stage of a London festival just days after member Liam O’Hanna was charged with a terror offence. However, opening their set this evening, the group admitted their set very almost got cancelled at the last minute and pressure is mounting on Glastonbury to pull their slot at Worthy Farm next month.

Earlier this week, Liam O’Hanna, who uses the stage name Mo Chara, was charged over the alleged display of a flag in support of Hezbollah at a gig at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, north London last November.

The band strongly deny the charges brought against O’Hanna and said in a lengthy statement that they will “vehemently defend” themselves against what they claimed was “political policing”. Tonight, the group, who hail from Belfast and rap in the Irish language, performed in the headline slot at Wide Awake Festival in Brockwell Park, south London tonight.

After performing their first song, the trio seemed to reference their recent controversy, telling the crowd that the set nearly got pulled. As the crowd, many waving flags, chanted “Free, Free Palestine”, the group told their fans: “They tried to stop this gig. Honestly lads, you have no idea how close we were to being pulled.

Performing in front of a graphic that read “Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people”, they added: “Has anybody been watching the news! It wasn’t even me! Thank you to all you c**** for supporting us through all this.”

Later, the boys revealed “this is the biggest crowd we’ve ever played to.” Liam then went on to discuss his recent charges, revealing: “I had an interview with counter terrorism and within a day they charged me. And the reason it was that quick was because Glastonbury is just around the corner, they’re trying to silence us.”

One member was heard saying: “If anybody’s about on June 18…we’re all going to gather outside the Westminster court to show support.” One of the trio was heard telling the crowd: “Anybody who’s free on June 18- get a big bag of Ket and we’ll go on the steps of Westminster.”

The group revealed their Glastonbury slot hangs in the balance due to pressure from the police and government. “Glastonbury is just around the corner,” the group stated before claiming “they’re trying to stop” them doing a similar thing to what they did at Coachella. “F**k ’em,” one of the trio said to a wild applause from the crowd.

The Belfast group accused Israel of genocide and war crimes against Palestinians with on-screen messages when they ended their set at the second weekend of the event in California in April.

They read: “Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people”, “It is being enabled by the US government who arm and fund Israel despite their war crimes” and “F*** Israel. Free Palestine”.

Liam told the crowd he believes the rap group are “being made an example of”. He said: “We are being made an example of, the Israeli lobbyists are trying to prove to other artists ‘that if you speak out, we’re going to hit you where it hurts most’.

“They’re trying to cancel gigs, they trying to cancel my freedom of travel. And the fact that I’m speaking to this amount of people, and I assume the majority of you will agree, shows that we’re on the right side of history.”

Kneecap’s recent controversaries hasn’t put fans off. Speaking ahead of tonight’s gig, one said of the band’s politics: “We were fans of Kneecap before but we’ve become bigger fans in the last month. I don’t agree with what they said but they had the right intentions in mind and I support their cause. No other act is being scrutinised like them – and you have to look at what they’ve been through to understand it.”

“My girlfriend made me watch the Kneecap film – it was amazing and I’ve. Even fans ever since,” another added, with a third declaring: “I started listening to them because of the controversy and found that their songs slapped so I wanted to watch them.”

Earlier this week, Kneecap held a surprise gig at the 100 Club on Oxford Street, with O’Hanna seen in social media videos arriving on stage with tape covering his mouth. He then joked: “I need to thank my lawyer, he’s here tonight as well.”

Writing on X, the band announced that the event had sold out in 90 seconds, with 2,000 people on the waiting list.

O’Hanna is set to appear before Westminster Magistrates Court on June 18 after being charged by postal requisition. The band said in a lengthy statement on Instagram: “14,000 babies are about to die of starvation in Gaza, with food sent by the world sitting on the other side of a wall, and once again, the British establishment is focused on us.

“We deny this ‘offence’ and will vehemently defend ourselves. This is political policing. This is a carnival of distraction. We are not the story. Genocide is. As they profit from genocide, they use an ‘anti-terror law’ against us for displaying a flag thrown on stage.

“A charge not serious enough to even warrant their ‘crown court’, instead a court that doesn’t have a jury. What’s the objective? To restrict our travel ability. To prevent us speaking to young people across the world. To silence voices of compassion. To prosecute artists who dare to speak out.

“Instead of defending innocent people, or the principles of international law they claim to uphold, the powerful in Britain have abetted slaughter and famine in Gaza, just as they did in Ireland for centuries. Then, like now, they claim justification. The IDF units they arm and fly spy plane missions for are the real terrorists, the whole world can see it.

“We stand proudly with the people. You stand complicit with the war criminals. We are on the right side of history. You are not. We will fight you in court. We will win. Free Palestine.”

Jessica Alba kisses mystery man in London three months after shock marriage split

Jessica Alba, the US actress who recently broke up with Cash Warren, may be enjoying a new beginning as she photographed in London’s Regent’s Park embracing a new man.

Jessica Alba appears to be stepping into a new chapter following her recent split from longtime partner Cash Warren. The 43-year-old actress was seen getting close with an unidentified man during a relaxed walk through London’s Regent’s Park on Sunday, May 19.

In new footage, the Fantastic Four star is seen pulling the mystery man in by the hands, smiling and clearly enjoying the moment. An observer told said that the pair seemed to be completely smitten with one another as they took a stroll through the famous park.

“They looked very intimate. They were hugging and holding hands as they walked through the park together. They rented out some deck chairs and they were sitting on them kissing. It looked very much like a new relationship,” the source told The Sun.

In February, Jessica, the mother-of-three, and Warren officially divorced, ending their 16-year marriage. Since then, speculation about her romantic life has grown, especially since she was spotted leaving the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party with comedian Alex Edelman in March.

While Cash sought legal counsel from Adam Lipsic, she sought the assistance of Kim Kardashian’s divorce attorney, Laura Wasser. The couple, who got married in 2008 and has three children, Hayes, 7, and Honor, 16, Haven, 13, are seeking joint physical and legal custody.

In January, Jessica made the announcement that she would no longer be there for her children, expressing her desire for reciprocity and child protection. Despite the high financial risks, sources told TMZ that the divorce proceedings were “extremely amicable.”

The couple first met on the set of Fantastic Four in 2004, where Jessica portrayed Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman) and Cash worked as a director’s assistant. In a September 2010 interview with Cosmopolitan, Jessica recalled their first meeting, describing how they instantly connected.

Back in January, sources close to the couple told TMZ that after a lengthy marriage, they had decided to part ways. Although no official reason has been provided for the split, signs of trouble surfaced when both Jessica and Cash were seen without their wedding rings.

Aside from her acting career, Jessica co-founded The Honest Company with her business partner, Christopher Gavigan in January 2012.

The business only offered natural, non-toxic household goods, diapers, and body care products at first. She expanded her business in 2015, launching a line of non-toxic beauty and skin care products called Honest Beauty.

The Honest Company’s 2014 valuation was $1 billion. In April of last year, she resigned from her position as the company’s chief creative officer.

The Mirror has approached Jessica’s representatives for comment on this story.
