Fiona Phillips was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2023 and now her husband has made a heartbreaking confession as they deal with the condition. Martin Frizzell, 65, has admitted he wishes the former GMTV star, 64, had “cancer instead”.
Martin, who has been married to Fiona for 28 years opened up in the couple’s joint memoir titled Remember When: My Life with Alzheimer’s. The release comes after Fiona has continued to be open about her condition following her diagnosis two years ago.
Martin’s devastating confession was revealed in an excerpt from the book. He said, “It’s shocking to say, but at least she might have had a chance of finding a cure, and she most likely would have had a treatment plan and a range of support and care packages,” when describing his wish that she had instead been diagnosed with cancer.

The Mail quoted a statement that read, “But that’s not there for Alzheimer’s.” similarly to the absence of funny or inspiring TikTok videos or fashion shoots featuring happy, healthy, and in-remission survivors.
After receiving their diagnosis, Martin continued, “the pair had been left to cope alone.” He acknowledges that he has taken on tasks that he had previously assumed to be unimportant since receiving the diagnosis. Additionally, the pair has hired a trained caregiver to give the former TV star the best care possible. In February, Martin resigned from his ITV position to take care of Fiona.

Martin explained how Fiona experiences confusion when her parents, who have sadly passed away, call in on difficult days. Fiona also mentioned how initially she was having trouble accepting the diagnosis.

In her own words, she said the challenges she faces are like “trying to chase a £5 note that’s fallen out of your purse on a gusty day”. She candidly said that it felt as though every time she had caught it, it blew out of reach once more.
Fiona explained the couple’s motivation for writing the book, saying, “Gradually, Martin and I thought maybe I should start telling more people. Martin believed that if more people knew what was going on with me, they wouldn’t judge me if I ever started acting strangely, which I didn’t believe I did. I hardly ever yelled at people while walking down the street in my underwear.

Alzheimer’s disease is the UK’s most prevalent cause of dementia, according to the NHS. A group of symptoms known as dementia are related to an ongoing decline in brain function, which can affect memory, thinking, and other mental abilities.

When Fiona first started experiencing “brain fog and anxiety,” she initially believed she was experiencing menopause symptoms.
Unfortunately, the actress already had firsthand knowledge of Alzheimer’s after receiving the condition from both of her parents.
In a heartfelt tribute to her late father, who battled dementia, BBBC star Nina Warhurst has shared the heartbreaking news about him. The 44-year-old journalist, who hosts BBC News at One live from Salford, took to Instagram on July 6 to share the depressing news to her 46.7k followers. She posted a striking black and white image of her holding her father’s hand.
She shared their final moments, which were filled with emotion and family memories, in a deeply moving message.
She wrote, “My Dad passed away on Wednesday night.” My mother and sisters spent time with him around the clock, singing, crying, laughing, and sharing memories, from Sunday.
Nina shared the moving picture on social media.
The Manchester Evening News reports that on his last day, we had nursing home afternoon tea, chippy chips, and wine.
He gently veered off with Amy holding him while Amy told him to “go head.” We’ll see you soon. He did, too. As the ripples stopped and softened, I placed my hand on his heart.
A peaceful life’s end is what. I’ll never forget the days I spent with so much love, laughter, and sunshine.
As we adjust to a world without him, Nina continued, “He is in my mind forever.” That’s still not completely true, in my opinion. However, we believe that knowing that the end can be peaceful and beautiful is extremely important for anyone going through this.
We can’t thank Kim, Daniel, Anna, Moody, Charlotte, Clara, Eddie, Obi, Sarah, Kat, Michael, Colin, Dorothy, Helen, and Gracie as well as the care home staff and residents who made our world our home for those days and nights.
In the comments section, Nina received a lot of support from both her followers and friends. It was beautiful, her sister Amy said. We’re not fortunate, are we? I adore you, Nines X.
A follower expressed her compassion by apologizing, “Nina, I’m so sorry.” My mother passed away in the same circumstances as my mother, who was also a dementia patient. He’ll be there for you forever. I will never forget how caring the entire family was throughout my mother’s illness thanks to the care home staff. They really don’t get enough credit for what they do. Take good care of your family and yourself.
Another expressed sympathy for your loss, “Oh Nina. You were there with him as he passed, and you gave him a lovely send off, which is very important. Thinking a lot of you and your entire family xxx.

After meeting almost two decades ago, tying the knot was a long time coming for former rugby union player Jordan Turner-Hall and his fiancée Sophie Burles. But when the pair finally said “I do” at picturesque Sussex vineyard Rathfinny Wine Estate, it felt like everything had fallen into place.
“What a wonderful day,” she said. When we chat shortly after their stunning wedding, bride Sophie, 36, says, “We just had a big party and celebrated our love.” And Jordan, both 37, acknowledge that their magical day is still “in a bubble.”

The celebrations started with a barbecue at the home of 40 of their closest and dearest on Friday, June 20. They didn’t do it halfheartedly. Former Harlequins center Jordan admits, “Friday was a little late, so we were all a little hungover.” “But thankfully, the wedding didn’t take place until 3 o’clock the following day, so we had time to have a hearty breakfast and recover.”
Delicate heads aside, the couple, who got engaged during a dreamy holiday in Santorini two years ago, looked picture perfect on their big day. Sophie – who admits she followed a gruelling pre-wedding diet – opted for a beautiful off-the-shoulder wedding gown by Essense of Australia, with a lengthy train flowing behind her.
When I went to the store to buy a dress, everything I imagined came out of the window. She describes her bridal shopping experience as “none of what I wanted” for me. My sister advised me to try the one I ended up with, which was exactly what I wanted.

Jordan, who acknowledges that despite his tough guy appearance, struggled to suppress his emotions after seeing Sophie walk down the aisle, it certainly ticked all the right boxes.
Sophie opted for a. beautiful off-the-shoulder gown(Image: Studio Westlake)
He claims, “I was blown away.” “I didn’t expect to feel so emotional, but Sophie and the bridesmaids all looked stunning when I saw them.” It was a gimmick. I had a lot of joy and pride. Although I’m not used to openly discuss our relationship, it did definitely hit me. It was stunning.
It’s no wonder Jordan, who was present with the couple’s children Marnie, 11, Mason, 9, and Cassius, 6, watched in his eyes. As Des’ree’s Romeo + Juliet movie hit I’m Kissing You, which Sophie met Jordan when she was just 19 years old, Mason proudly led her down the aisle. The couple’s song has always been special, the couple saying, “I’m Kissing You.”
According to Sophie, “Our daughter Marnie was the bridesmaid, then Mason led us down the aisle while Cassius served as the ring bearer.” “Mason almost snuck out,” Please don’t leave me on my own, I was like. However, he did it, which was quite emotional. I had to make an effort not to look at the bridesmaids because they all started crying just before we left.
The kids were so excited, she continues. Everyone in the classroom was informed of it. We had a long time to get married, but I’m glad I did it now so that the children could play a significant role.

Jordan appears to have had a quick turnaround writing his vows, sealing their union with personalised vows. When Sophia says, “I’d written mine a long time ago, and then Jordan said, “What are the vows? ” two days before the wedding. and he was required to write his. But ultimately, they were very kind.
Jordan claims that all the work was too much for later in the day because he was too focused on planning his groom’s speech. As they toasted the couple with a glass of Sussex sparkling rosé, which was produced on site at the venue’s vineyard, he claims, the audience members laughed and cried throughout the speech.
He claims that he did a lot of research before awarding my speech and didn’t want to just list off thank-yous. So I exchanged compliments and attempted to raise the energy in the room.
Everyone adored the speeches, Sophie adds. “All of them were emotional. The Herb Kitchen, a catering company, provided a sharing-style meal with grazing steak boards for guests, breaking from tradition. Then everyone had to let their hair down.
We’ve attended so many weddings where guests were waiting for their arrivals, so we wanted ours to be quick so we could focus on the enjoyable part. We wanted everyone to just enjoy a big party, Sophie says, and that’s exactly what we did.
Even the cake-cutting was a big moment(Image: Studio Westlake)
The loved-up pair would consider renewing their vows to have another special day(Image: Studio Westlake)
Presenter Zoe Hardman and her husband, former rugby player Paul Doran Jones, and a number of Jordan’s rugby pals, including Danny Care, Nick Evans, Joe Marler, and David Strettle, were present.
To reduce noise levels, Jordan and Sophie admit to deliberately placing the rugby players far away from the top table.
“There was a rugby table,” Sophie says, “and I believe they were having the best time ever.” Jordan placed them exactly at the conclusion to prevent too much commotion. Yes, there were a few drinking contests going on there, “he laughs.”
The couple’s wedding day turned out so beautifully. Their only regret is that they didn’t embark on a honeymoon sooner. The following Monday, the kids returned to school right away, and everything was back to normal, Sophie claims. We originally wanted to go on a honeymoon, but we’re going to Italy later this year.
After a harrowing wedding planning phase, the couple is relieved to be stress-free. Particularly the final two weeks before the wedding, it became stressful. It was difficult for some guests to ask for other guests or to come in the last minute because they were unable to do so. And it was difficult to sort the stationery, “admits Sophie.

Jordan admits there were a few pre-wedding arguments but the big day was perfect(Image: Studio Westlake)
Jordan adds, “There were quite a few pre-wedding arguments. But we agreed that when the day came, we’d let go of all the stress and just enjoy it, which is what we did.”
However, they wouldn’t be off about doing it all over again because of the stress. I believe that if we were to renew our vows in the same location, “Sophie says,” that would be really nice. However, can we do it the second time for half the price? “laughs,” says Jordan, “and his new wife nods reassuringly.”
Looking to the future, the couple also say more children aren’t off the cards. “I love babies and I’m definitely broody,” Sophie admits with a giggle. “But it is hard work and Jordan’s away a lot, so it would probably send me over the edge having another one. We got a second dog at Christmas, so that’s suppressed the broodiness, for now. But watch this space.”

Kerry Katona has revealed her true feelings for the notorious Atomic Kitten “fid,” which has kept her separated from her bandmates for more than 20 years.
The singer, 44, who rose to fame in the band back in 1998 and was in the group until 2001, was a forming member of the group alongside Natasha Hamilton and Liz McClarnon and was replaced by Jenny Frost after exiting the band.
After the Spice Girls’ failed to reunite at Mel B’s wedding this weekend, Kerry explained in her weekly New! that she likens the group’s dynamics to those of the Spice Girls. She claimed in a magazine column that she thought Victoria Beckham and Geri Horner weren’t present at the wedding.
She wrote: “I read last week that Victoria Beckham and Geri Horner weren’t to be at Mel B’s wedding, which is a shame. It would be sad if they weren’t going due to a fallout, as the Spice Girls have so much history.

Kerry hasn’t been a part of any of the band’s subsequent reunions, which have taken place frequently. Prior to Jenny’s replacement, Cherry has previously recalled how the band used to fight back.
She acknowledged that she recalls some of the altercations that occurred in the early days of Atomic Kitten. After a brief row, Liz once punched me from behind. I fought back and won.

Kerry has said repeatedly in recent years how she would “love” to reconnect with her bandmates and claims to have spoken to them several times. However, she appears to let bygones be bygones.

In 2023, following the death of S Club 7 star Paul Cattermole, Kerry wrote in her column: “When something like this happens, it brings home how I feel about my relationship with the Atomic Kitten girls.
“It’s really sad that we don’t talk. I’ve reached out to them so many times. Life is too short.”
Just days after the teen was accused of getting lip filler, which Princess denied, Peter Andre has claimed that his daughter is under “a lot of pressure” for how she looks.

Peter Andre has defended his daughter Princess, who turned 18 last week, after fans claimed she had gotten lip filler on a recent post – sparking backlash. Revealing that the teen is under ‘a lot of pressure’ regarding the way she looks, particularly due to social media, dad-of-five Peter said in his weekly New! Magazine column that he urges Princess it’s what is inside that matters.
Forced to deny that she’s had any dermal filler, Princess responded to an Instagram user who commented “Oh noooooo the lips have been done” on a recent post. “No they haven’t? x,” replied the teenager.
And in his column, Peter argued that being her age these days is difficult because of how much pressure teenagers are currently facing with their appearance, particularly with social media.
“But like I always tell Princess, someone could be the most beautiful looking person in the world, but if they’re not a nice person, they’re not that attractive. It’s not about what you look like, it’s about who you are that makes you truly beautiful.”
Peter says he’s always reminding Princess that it’s about what is inside that counts(Image: WireImage)
He continued, “Princess is now 18 and it feels like ages ago,” noting that despite her recent milestone birthday, things don’t feel any different at home. You automatically assume that they will now be completely independent, as you should as a parent, but as she claims, nothing changes. You wouldn’t after three days, I mean, LOL. She is still calling me to let me know when she will arrive home, which is very sweet. I adore it, I assure you.

Peter’s comments come after his ex-wife Katie Price, who he shares Princess and son Junior, 20, with, hit the headlines for claiming she was ‘left out’ of Princess’s 18th birthday party, which was hosted by Peter and his wife Emily.
“Princess is now an adult, so, officially, Mummy and Princess can go out together,” Katie stated on her podcast, The Katie Price Show, before adding, pointedly at Peter and his PR firm, The CAN Group, “If certain people would let her be seen with me.”
However, when contacted, the management company stated that Princess could never and would never stop seeing Katie. We would never intervene if our clients saw or didn’t see their parents.

Claiming that the situation left Katie ‘upset’, a source told Mirror over the weekend, “The situation has really upset Katie,” says a source. “There has been a build-up of tension recently and it all came to a head last week over Princess’s birthday.
Katie thought she had been essentially barred from attending, and she was devastated. Because she is still so close to her children, the talk about their relationship irritated and upset her.
EXCLUSIVE: Denise Van Outen has been unlucky in love in recent years, but after being spotted with new boyfriend Adam Butler at Glastonbury, a source has said Denise is smitten

Her love life has been anything but smooth sailing over the past few years, but after Denise Van Outen went public with her new boyfriend Adam Butler at Glastonbury Festival, a source claims the former Big Breakfast presenter is “taking it slow – but she’s very happy”.
Loved-up Denise was spotted holding hands with the businessman in the VIP area at the festival, where she surprised fans with a secret DJ gig. According to our source, Denise feels she’s finally hit the mark with her new man.
“She’s taking her time, but she’s never felt happier and she feels this time she’s got it right. Her friends and family can see she’s in a really great place and are delighted for her. It’s been really hard for Denise to trust again after her relationship with Eddie [Boxshall] – it was a big deal for her.
“She wanted to keep this new relationship quiet and not put it all out there, but people who know her can see how happy she is with Adam. ”
Denise says she is entering her fifties feeling “blessed”
Denise, 51, told new last year that she felt “liberated” as a single woman, but things have clearly changed as she couldn’t have looked more delighted to be with her new love.
Article continues below
Her blossoming romance comes after Denise’s confession that she only took up golf in order to meet men, ditching dating apps and turning to the sport in 2014 after lots of her male friends had started playing.
The TV presenter and DJ shares a daughter Betsy, 15, with theatre star Lee Mead, with the two divorcing in 2013.
Denise told host Russell Kane on TUI’s podcast Pack Your Bags, “I got into it after my divorce, and I wanted to go somewhere where there are just loads of men.
“When you’re young, you just go to a nightclub. And I was like, ‘I just don’t want to spend all night in the nightclub. Where have all the nightclubbers gone now? ’
“And I looked, and most of my male friends have grown up and got into golf. I thought, ‘Perfect. ’”
Rumours of a new romance began circulating in April after Adam joined Denise for a Maldives break. The pair were then spotted last month in the Akira Back restaurant at London’s Mandarin Oriental hotel, following a series of dates.
Prior to meeting Adam, Denise had dated property developer Jimmy Barba for 18 months, but she confirmed their break-up in November 2023. Last year, she admitted she had joined celebrity dating app Raya in the hopes of finding The One.
So her new romance must be welcome after a tricky few years. Denise’s relationship with fiancé Eddie Boxshall broke down in January 2022 after seven years, following revelations that he had been sexting other women.
Denise confirmed the split on Instagram, stating she would “always treasure the good times” but that it “saddened” her to confirm the separation. She said later that she was prioritising her self-worth and self-respect.

Our source continues, “Denise was very hurt after the break-up with Eddie and it took her a long time to find her confidence in a relationship again.
“She’s a tough cookie, but wears her heart on her sleeve, so when she’s hurt by someone, it hits her hard and she puts her walls up, which most people can relate to.
“She’s had a lot of support from good friends like Vanessa Feltz and Myleene Klass, and everyone has been rooting for her.
“Thankfully, she’s feeling really happy and strong again, and she won’t let her past experiences ruin things for her. ”
Last May, Denise told OK! magazine that she was entering her fifties feeling “blessed” and that, after seven months of being single, she was “really loving it”. She added that she’d never allowed herself “breathing space” between relationships.
She said, “My parents have been married for 55 years and they’ve always been the benchmark for me when it comes to relationships.
“I hoped my love life would be like that, but obviously things have turned out differently. I’m OK with that. We live in a different age.”
Admitting that she had always “put everything” into romantic relationships, Denise said that she had changed. “I’m older and wiser, and because I’ve had my fingers burnt a few times, I now know what I don’t want. ”

Adding that she was enjoying going on dates, she said, “I don’t feel pressured to rush into anything. “When the time’s right, then I’ll be ready to meet Mr Right. Until that happens, I’m just going to sit back and go with the flow. ”
Thanks to her new man, it seems Denise may just have found exactly what she wants, at exactly the right time.
