Experts Point Out How TV’s Dr House Often Got It Wrong

He is the illustrious physician who loved to confound doctors with his brilliant, unconventional diagnoses.

Croatian doctors contend that Dr. Gregory House, the misanthropic genius who was the star of the multi-award-winning “House” television series, himself committed many errors.

Croatian researchers have increased the American series’ medical accuracy in a paper released this month after performing a colonoscopy on the wrong side of a patient or an MRI on a doctor who is clearly not a radiologist.

After analyzing every single episode of the show, which ran from 2004 to 2012, Denis Cerimagic, a professor at Dubrovnik University, and two other fellow neurologists, both of whom were devoted fans, put up a list of 77 errors.

Cerimagic told AFP, “We focused on the main cases’ diagnoses, the reality of clinical practice presentation, and the detection of medical errors.”

The mistakes were broken down into five categories: misuses of medical terminology, misinformation, and simple weirdness, which the show’s anti-hero, played by British actor Hugh Laurie, possessed in abundance.

That sluggish

The term heart attack and cardiac arrest are interchangeably used when they are not interchangeable, and vitamin B12 deficiency can be corrected with just one injection, according to them, along with the use of mercury thermometers, which had long replaced digital ones.

As one episode suggested, there is also no universal chemotherapy for all types of malignant tumors.

The biggest mistake of all is that Laurie uses his cane on the wrong side, which is the character’s genius for deduction coming from the misdiagnosis that left him limping and suffering.

Cerimagic suggested that the actor carry the stick on his unaffected side, even though he understood why the actor did it because “it’s more effective to see the pronounced limp on the screen.”

Additionally, according to their research, medical procedures were performed by experts who had no business working there, such as an autopsy performed by an infectologist.

With the results of complex laboratory tests carried out in a few hours, the series occasionally stretched reality beyond the limits. And doctors rarely go into patients’ homes to look for environmental causes of illness.

Not to mention Dr. House’s unethical behavior (he was quoted as saying in the paper’s article as saying, “Brain tumour, she’s gonna die”) and the character’s opiates addiction.

The researchers claim they may have missed other errors.

Cerimagic continued, “We are neurologists, but other medical specialists would undoubtedly establish additional errors.”

medical blunders

Despite their criticisms, the researchers claim that medical advisors have made modern medical series much more popular than they have in the past.

The neurologist claimed that it is not like it was 20 years ago when doctors were examining X-rays in the face.

Cerimagic claimed that only medical professionals can now identify errors.

Despite its flaws, they believed the series could be used to aid in the training of medical students.

According to Cerimagic, the emphasis could be on acknowledging medical errors in the context of individual episodes, adopting the teamwork principle, and adopting a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment.

He claimed that the response to his and his colleagues’ paper, “House M. D.: Between reality and fiction,” was surprising because it was not the first academic study to doubt the good doctor’s methods.

BBC breaks silence on Wynne Evans axing with blunt statement after Strictly scandal

Go Compare advert star Wynne Evans has confirmed he has been axed by the BBC following the Strictly Come Dancing scandals – as he shared an emotional statement with fans

The BBC has confirmed that Wynne Evans will not return to present on BBC Radio Wales after he said, “The BBC has decided not to renew my contract”. Evans, 53, known for the Go.Compare insurance advertisements, revealed in January, he would be taking some time out from both his radio show and the Strictly tour to prioritise his wellbeing.

On Friday, a spokesperson for the BBC said: “Wynne Evans is not under contract with the BBC. He is not returning to the mid-morning show on BBC Radio Wales and there are currently no plans to work with him”. An apology had been issued earlier this year on behalf of Evans over “inappropriate language” used during the Strictly tour launch in January.

Wynne hit the headlines for multiple reasons during his time on the BBC dance show. He was shown grabbing his professional partner Katya’s waist before she pushed his hand away, but he later insisted it was a joke.

He then came under fire for using the term ‘spit roast’ to Janette Manrara during a Strictly photocall, but he later insisted it was directed at Jamie Borthwick and had nothing to do with Janette. As a result of the comment, he was axed from the Strictly tour – and then a video emerged of him sending a sex toy to his co-star Jamie, which both were heavily criticised for.

Now Wynne has revealed he has not had his contract renewed and he will not be back with the BBC for his radio show – and thus has decided to continue to do his radio show away from the BBC.

“My beloved Wynners, From the very depths of my heart – thank you. These past few months, your love has been the light in my darkest days. Every message, every word of encouragement, every moment you stood by me has carried me through more than you could ever know,” he said in an

“It breaks my heart to say the BBC has decided not to renew my contract so I won’t be returning to my radio show. I’m gutted. That show wasn’t just work – it was home. It was us. We laughed, we cried, we sang like nobody was listening. And somehow, through the airwaves, we became a family.”

He continued: “But here’s what I believe with everything I’ve got: what we built cannot end here. So – deep breath — here goes… We’re getting the band back together. The Wynne Evans Show is coming back, live every day from 9am–12pm on a new app, on Alexa and Google (we don’t have to say ‘smart speaker’ anymore!) and at www.wynneevansshow.co.uk.

“This is our next adventure. And I need you more than ever. We will have great music, my question of the day, the mystery voice, your soundtrack stories and so much more, because we have each other again.”

Back in January, Wynne issued a message to say he was taking some time away. He said at the time: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.

“I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support.”

At the time, Wynne was also grieving the loss of his brother Huw and said he found out about the BBC’s decision to originally suspend him when his BBC pass no longer worked and had been deactivated without warning.

It’s not just your skin that needs protecting from the sun in summer; your hair does too – and REHAB has launched a new travel-friendly hair oil that does exactly that, while also “stopping frizz”, say shoppers.

REHAB – which counts Stacey Solomon as not only a fan but a business partner too – has just launched its new Sunshine Spritz UV Protection Hair Oil, debuting with a 20% discount, taking it down from its usual price of £26 to £20.80. This oil features a blend of strand-smoothing oils but octocrylene to protect against UV rays, plus it comes in REHAB’s trademark single-use capsules, which are perfect for travelling, enabling you to take as few or as many as you need.

Sunshine Spritz Hair Oil may have only just launched but it has already racked up a high number of positive reviews from happy shoppers, with almost all of them five star ones.

“As with every single other Rehab product I have purchased, this new oil is gorgeous,” one loyal fan wrote. “Am currently using it now in 95 degree heat. Protecting my hair and stopping the frizz. I love it.”

“This was so amazing! My hair felt so soft and the smell of the oil is wonderful. I think its my favourite,” another agreed.

A third customer wrote how they though it was “probably the best frizzy relaxer [they’ve] used so far” and that it “smells great”, although did explain how “the first time I used this I used it all over, but now I don’t put it in my roots. It can make your hair look greasy.” This is good advice to follow when using any hair oil, as most don’t need to be applied over the whole length of the hair.

As part of REHAB’s new Sunshine Spritz range, there’s also a product to protect another delicate part of your body from the sun: your lips. SPF Lip Oil, usually £16 but currently £12.80, has a glossy finish and contains SPF 15 to add shine while it shields. Shoppers can also save even more when they buy the two products together in the UV Hair Oil & SPF Lip Oil Bundle for £31.50 instead of the usual £42.

If you prefer sun protection for your hair in a spray instead, Pantene has just launched its Pro-V Sunkiss Glow Hair Spray, £12, which contains ingredients to defend against UV, salt and chlorine – all things that can damage your hair – or your hair’s colour – when on holiday.

Taylor Swift admits ‘it’s a dream come true’ after buying rights to all music

Taylor Swift has made a significant announcement to the public. The singer-songwriter thanked her supporters for their continued support in a lengthy statement that described the news as her “greatest dream come true.”

Taylor, 35, claims to now own “all the music,” including unreleased songs, that she’s ever produced. Following a controversy over her back catalogue, which has previously caused controversy, she released re-recorded versions of albums from earlier in her career.

Re-recorded versions of her debut album, Taylor Swift from 2006, and Reputation, which came out in 2017, were still available, according to the Grammy Award winner’s teaser in a message posted on her website. She said it will be “when the time is right” and that there will be a “celebration” as well.

Taylor told fans today, “All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs to me.” She claimed that it includes all of her unreleased music videos, concert videos, album artwork, and photography. “The memories,” she continued. The magic . The madness . Every single era. My life’s work is.

Taylor Swift has revealed that she now owns all of her music on Instagram (taylorswift/instagram).

She said, “My mind is just a slidehow at the moment, but I’m trying to organize my thoughts into something coherent.” A collection of all the opportunities I longed for, wished for, and wished I never saw the opportunity to share this news.

I repeatedly reached out for it, only for it to fall through. After 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away, I almost gave up believing it could ever occur. That is all, however, now. Since discovering that this is actually happening, I’ve been bursting into joy at random intervals.

Taylor continued, “Being very reserved about it is to say this is my greatest dream come true. She stated that she has released re-recorded versions of four albums because she “knows how important” “it has been to her” and that she has learned how important it is.

She continued, “I was able to buy back my music because of the passionate support you showed those albums and the success story you turned the Eras Tour.” I have spent my entire life pursuing this art, but I have never owned it. I can’t thank you enough.

The artist once said, “All I’ve ever wanted is the freedom to work hard enough to eventually buy my music without any restrictions, no partnership, and full autonomy.” I’ll be forever grateful to Shamrock Capital staff for providing this for me for the first time.

Taylor claimed that the company had made a “business deal” with her, who is said to have most recently owned her masters, but that they had taken it for granted. She continued, “My memories, my sweat, my handwriting, and my decades of dreams.”

Fans have been eagerly awaited the release of Taylor’s Version, which she also updated. Taylor claimed that she hasn’t “yet” even re-recorded a quarter of it. However, she didn’t rule out finishing the new version.

Taylor claimed that the album was “so specific” to a specific period in her life, and that she “continued to hit a halt” when she attempted to remaster it. All that defiance, that yearning for understanding while being purposefully misunderstood, that desperate hope, that shame-born snarl and mischief, she said.

It’s the one album in those first six that, to be completely honest, I didn’t feel could be improved upon by doing. Taylor continued, “Taylor said she kept putting it off, but she suggested there would be a time to “get the unreleased Vault tracks” to be canceled.”

Taylor continued, “I’ve already completely re-recorded my debut album, and I really like how it sounds now. If that’s something you guys would be interested in, those two albums may still have their moments that when the time comes. She claimed that it wouldn’t come from a “place of sorrow and longing” if it were to be celebrated now.

She concluded, “I’m extremely encouraged by the conversations this saga has reignited in my industry among artists and fans.” I’m reminded of how crucial it was for everything to happen when a new artist claims they negotiated to own their own master recordings in their record deal.

Every bit of it counted, and ended us up here, Taylor said as he thanked the fans who had supported him. The best things that have ever been mine… finally are, thanks to you and your goodwill, teamwork, and encouragement.

After his former band’s manager Scooter Braun purchased Taylor’s former record label Big Machine Label Group in 2019, his company Ithaca Holdings acquired the rights to her six albums. The previous year, Taylor left the label and reportedly held the rights to her first six albums. She had recently signed with Universal Music Group. Then it was revealed in 2020 that Shamrock Holdings had purchased her master recordings.

Despite being one of the original YouTube stars, Louise Pentland has revealed that she is worried about kids life online in the modern social media world

One of the ‘original YouTubers’ turned Loose Women star shared she now has has “so many concerns” about children being on social media.

Louise Pentland, 40, amassed millions of followers online and shot to fame in the early days of the video-sharing website, but now a mum, she insists she has to be strict about the kind of content her children consume and share online.

The social media star first launched her channel in January 2010 and has been watched more than 195 million times on the platform, amassing a staggering 2.17 million followers.

She was one of the original stars of the platform, making a name for herself alongside the likes of Joe Sugg, Caspar Lee, Jim Chapman, Marcus Butler, Zoella and more – known as the Brit Crew.

But now speaking on Loose Women, she voiced her worries about life online, she said: “I have so many concerns about children online. I try to find a really healthy balance, and some people would say I could share more, some people could say I could share less.

The mum has revealed she has to be strict without her kids have access to online(Image: Kate Green/Getty Images for The)

“I don’t do daily vlogging, or weekly vlogging or anything like that. I know my children. Darcy is a little showperson, she loves theatre and dance. Pearl, not so much.

“Darcy has a TikTok, which is a private account; she has an Instagram, which is a public account, but she’s not allowed to just post whenever she likes. It has to be well thought-out, and I have to check it out.

“There’s so many safety features if you know about them. I don’t think they’re obvious enough but I’m logged in to her things so I see everything that is coming in and everything going out. As much as you trust your child, you can’t trust the world.

“We’re never gonna get rid of social media, it’s here for good, so I would rather train her to use it wisely and sensibly while she still listens to me!”

Despite the potential concerns she raised, she also shared how the website helped her through some “really dark times”, keeping her motivated while having the support of her community around her. But again, she insists that having clear online “boundaries” is important when she decides what part of her life she shares on camera.

She said: “There have been some really dark times in my life. I had a very difficult, turbulent childhood, and I have been divorced. During those times, not the childhood, but, say, when my marriage came to an end, YouTube was a really joyful distraction.

“I do share the down bits, but also I think it’s really important that we remember to have boundaries, and you don’t need to share every single thing with every single person.

“So I try and find a balance of not making everything look perfect and remembering what is personal. When you’re dealing with your children and your family, you’ve got to have those boundaries.”

Emmerdale fans only just realising where they’ve seen Billy star Jay Kontzle before

Fans may not be aware that Jay Kontzie’s career didn’t begin with the soap, but many people only know about it from his Emmerdale role.

Before his role as Billy Fletcher, he was previously on our screen – but many haven’t put the connection together(Image: ITV)

Jay Kontzle is currently best known for playing Billy Fletcher in Emmerdale, where he is now a fan favourite. However, long before he was tangled up in dramatic soap storylines from dodging punches in the illegal boxing rings or his young son’s leukaemia diagnosis, he was belting out tunes on national TV, which found him with Simon Cowell’s stamp of approval.

Many fans haven’t been able to connect the dots, but he was a member of The Mend, a Manchester-based group formed in 2008 by the former Take That manager Nigel Martin-Smith. They first appeared on TV on The X Factor in 2011. However, their stint quickly came to an end when, at boot camp, producers discovered they had a management deal, which is against the rules.

Since beginning his singing career, he has completely changed.

However, they made the decision to try it again in the following year, this time auditioning for Britain’s Got Talent. A young Jay stated during their performance, “We all have problems at home, but we’ll keep playing music until we can resolve them.”

They performed a part-rapped, part-sung cover of Otis Redding’s Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay, blowing the audience away—and Cowell, too. “I’m very happy you auditioned. I like you a lot,” he told them.

The Mend made it all the way to the final, eventually finishing in seventh place. The group later supported Little Mix on their 2013 DNA tour, which helped them gain a solid teenage fanbase.

The group made the decision to leave in 2015.

He stated in a statement to Cheshire Live, “Being a part of The Mend was a huge life experience for me and some of the best times of my life.”

Being on tour and performing live on television gave me some experience, but as we got older, we realized we couldn’t keep reinventing ourselves as a boy band.

He acknowledges that the music industry wasn’t for him despite years of rubbing shoulders with music aristocracy. He did enjoy the performing aspect, but there was a side he didn’t like.

He told Inside Soap, “The best aspect of being in a band was the insight I gained into the industry.”

“We collaborated with professionals like Simon Cowell,” Cowell said. However, I ultimately detested the music business side. It was a great experience! I’ve kind of moved on, so I don’t really talk about it right now.

And he made a different decision after being tipped off by Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas’ casting session in 2018, where he was cast as Billy Fletcher, a recovering bad boy who turned into a devoted Husband to Dawn. Although Billy has been hiding some significant secrets in recent episodes, including that he’s risking his life to support his family, fans love the couple.

This isn’t his first explosive, though it includes their son Evan’s illness and a wedding that was hacked by serial killer Meena Jutla.

Despite the various career paths he has chosen, his career appears to be exactly where he was intended to go. “It wasn’t until I started that everything clicked, and the position really suited me.” He said, “I’m very happy that it’s been such a busy and exciting time since then,” and that it’s been a lot of fun.
