Luckily, that’s where beauty editors like myself are here to help. We test out all the newest products as soon as they launch – or often even before they launch – and give you our honest reviews, letting you know if we think they’re right for you.

2024 – like every year – has seen loads of new products go viral, from smart hair styling tools to much-hyped new perfumes, and myself and the rest of the Mirror shopping team have been diligently trying them all out. There have been a lot of brilliant things launching this year, but here are my favourite skin, make-up and perfume products of the last 12 months that I would 100% buy again…

You’ll often find a foundation in my favourites list (keep reading for another, but this is one of the best I’ve ever tried, and the one I reach for the most. It’s just so effortless; it blends seamlessly, never goes dry or cakey throughout the day, and makes skin look so good: dewy, natural and healthy. My one criticism is that it doesn’t come in many shades, however they are very ‘flexible’.

There was a lot of commotion in the beauty world when Hailey Bieber’s beauty brand dropped these earlier this year, but they’re so worth the hype; as someone who never liked wearing blusher they’ve made me fall in love with it for the first time. They melt into the skin and the shades are just so flattering, even ones that look rather bold in their tubes. I love Piggy and, surprisingly, Toasted Teddy, while head of shopping Zoe likes Spicy Marg.

Not a brand new launch globally but a fragrance brand that’s fairly new to the UK, and a scent that I tried for the first time this year after seeing no end of beauty editors rave about it. If, like me, you love light, cosy, comforting perfumes like fan favourite Glossier You, you’re going to love this DedCool scent too – the perfect skin scent, it’s unobtrusive yet utterly addictive.

CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2

Despite writing about the skin benefits of LED masks for years and owning one of CurrentBody’s popular devices, I’m a little ashamed to admit that I never used it regularly, finding that it didn’t fit very comfortably around my head, and hindered my boxset binge-watching. That was, however, until I tried CurrentBody’s new and improved Series 2 mask, which fits much better on me (closer around the eyes and tighter around the head). Now I’m using it almost every night before bed, and I’m already seeing improvements in my skin.

LED masks are an investment, yes, but if you can commit to regular use, you’ll see results.

VIEVE Skin Nova Complexion Balm

£34 from Sephora

Another 10/10 foundation from this year, this feels really buttery on the skin, and it blends beautifully with both fingers or a make-up brush, sitting well over primers like Skin Nova or your regular moisturiser or SPF.

Whereas I apply the Lumene foundation all over my face with a brush, I like to press this VIEVE Complexion Balm in just to areas where it’s needed with my fingers, almost as if it’s skincare.

MAC Pro Locked Brow Gel

£24 from MAC Cosmetics

I often find that brow gel formulas are either not strong enough to lock my hairs into place all day, or if they are, often leave white, flaky bits on the hairs as they dry. MAC’s new launch, however, ticks both boxes. I also find that the unusual-shaped brush with its comb-like bristles are long enough to get right in between my dense brow hairs, separating and lifting them up then securing them in place.

If you’re after a cheaper option, I also really rate L’Oréal Paris Brow Lamination, currently reduced to £7.98 on Amazon.

Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum brought delight and madness to a pub in Wales when they dropped in to the surprise of locals.

The Deadpool and Wolverine actors were in Wales ahead of a Wrexham AFC match – the EFL League One team that 48-year-old Canadian star Ryan owns along with fellow Hollywood star Rob McElhenney, 47. Ryan and Channing, 44, caused a stir when they arrived at The Fat Boar – a gastropub found in the Welsh city that has been open and run by Rich Watkin since 2015.

Footage of the lads in the pub has gone viral – with Ryan shown preparing to do some singing before vowing to buy everyone in the pub a drink. The footage showed the star declare: “It’s nice to be here. It’s my first time singing the Welsh national anthem so wish me luck! And I wanted to say I’m buying a round for everyone!”

Those in the establishment could be heard cheering loudly – while It Ends With Us star Brandon Sklenar was also found to be in the venue as he prepared to celebrate an evening of fun with the famous pair. The Fat Boar official Instagram page shared a snap of the trio of stars, writing a caption stating: “Visit from @vancityreynolds @channingtatum @brandonsklenar at the boat tonight.”

In an interview with the Daily Star, owner Rich gushed about the encounter – and revealed there was a logistical issue to ensure the stars had some privacy while they were in the pub. He revealed: “It was Friday night in the lead up to Christmas – so the pub was busy. We got the call that Ryan Reynolds was planning to visit the Fat Boar and from there we had about 20 minutes before he arrived. It was probably best that way so we didn’t have time to overthink things.”

He said: “The first thing we needed to do was decide where they could sit so they could have a meal – luckily there was a bit where they could be without too much interference. Obviously we want to talk to them – everyone wants to talk to them – but from a business perspective we just want them to eat and enjoy themselves. That was probably the hardest part, making sure people kept away just while they finished their meal.”

He also branded Ryan “classy” for buying everyone in the pub a drink, noting: “He could so easily just have disappeared out the back door, but instead he put some money behind the bar and came out to speak.” Rich also posed for a couple of snaps alongside Ryan at the venue which have also been shared online.

Ryan and Rob bought Wrexham AFC in November 2020 and have firmly put the team on the international sporting map. Huge A List stars have jetted to Wales to see the team in action – and a Disney docuseries has also been released following the team on during their championship.

Fearne Cotton and Jesse Wood burst into a two-hour screaming match in a public park before they announced their shock split.

Former CBBC host Fearne, 43, revealed on Instagram Stories that she had and her husband of ten years had decided to call time on their marriage. Fearne, who has been open and frank about the downsides of their relationship as well as the good, dismissed rumours of trouble at home over recent years.

She shared the sad news with a simple message, which read: “It is with a heavy heart that I let you all know that Jesse and I are ending our marriage. We please ask that you respect the privacy of our family at this time.” Fearne and Jesse share two children, Rex and Honey, while Fearne also has two step-children from Jesse’s first marriage.

There has been speculation for some time over the couple, with Fearne admitting that she and Jesse had a two hour screaming match in public, before both breaking down in tears. Conflicts over work schedules and a reportedly absent sex life also contributed to the breakdown of their marriage, with Fearne admitting it all got too much at one point.

In 2019, Fearne wrote in her Red Magazine column: “One blustery and grey day, this culminated in a screaming match in our local park, which lasted about two hours until we both broke and cried. Luckily, my husband is the most emotionally literate person, so we can be completely vulnerable in front of one another. In the midst of this gargantuan row, I think we both wondered where the love had gone and worried that it might not come back.”

Fearne often commented on their relationship in her column, telling her fans: “Love takes hard work – and no one wants to hear that.” She continued: “This year, Jesse and I hit a rough patch – he was away, touring relentlessly, [with his band, Reef]. I was trying to keep my own career going while looking after our kids and we were both desperately clinging on to our marriage.”

More recently, Fearne told listeners of her Happy Place podcast that tensions were high with her and her partner. She told fans: “I am a very fiery ­person, and Jesse can also be quite fiery. We’ve certainly argued in front of the kids. Most parents have at some point. It’s not regular but we have definitely had a pop at each other in front of them — and you don’t feel good about it after.”

The announcement of their separation comes just days after Fearne revealed she had surgery to remove two benign tumours from her jaw. She is currently recovering from her treatment.

Strictly Come Dancing star Will Mellor, 48, has shared his support for people experiencing grief, after losing both his sister and his father.

The actor’s older sister, Joanne, died at the age of 44 in 2012, with Will admitting he still suffers with feelings of guilt from her passing. In 2020, his dad, Bill, died just weeks after being diagnosed with cancer, with the introduction of Coronavirus restrictions making the loss even more difficult.

Coronation Street star Will openly spoke about how he processed the heart-breaking deaths of his family members, and described how he’d encourage others to cope with similar events. “The advice I’d give is when I lost my dad I just cried when I felt like crying, I let it out. I didn’t hold it in, I just let it out,” he shared while talking to the Mirror.

In comparison, the actor revealed how he bottled up his emotions after Joanne’s death in order to put up a strong front, but ultimately ended up suffering more. He said: “I think with my sister I held it in, I tried to protect everybody else from grieving. I pretended I was okay when I was dying inside.

“I think talking is massive, you have to talk. If you’re struggling it’s okay not to be okay – and I know it’s a bit of a cliché, but I’ve said it a lot about mental health awareness. It’s okay not to be okay.”

While Will has now learned to be open and honest with his emotions, he also detailed how Joanne’s death initially led him down a dark path. “It’s really tough. Grief has a way of surprising you, it hides away. I thought that I was okay, I grieved the loss of my sister not too well. I turned to drink and gambling and all the things that I would advise against. But I didn’t know what to do,” he admitted.

Will has won over fans by healthily sharing his emotions on TV, with the musician having let tears fall on Strictly after dedicating a dance to his dad. Similarly, he received an outpouring of admiration from viewers after breaking down on his show Will and Ralf Should Know Better, which he hosts alongside his Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps co-star Ralf Little.

Speaking of his overwhelming emotions while talking about his dad on Will and Ralf Should Know Better, he said: “Obviously it was important to leave it in the show. There are other people who will be going through that, and they’ll feel that it’s okay, it’s normal. That’s what grief is.”

Will also shared: “I’m now actually seeing somebody, I’m going to counselling, because when that came out I realised that there’s a lot inside me I need to talk about. So I’ve started counselling, and I’m not ashamed to say that… I started it just the other week and I’m going to continue it, even when I feel good.

He stressed the importance of everyone facing up to their emotions, adding: “Yeah, I’m an alpha male man and I have issues. What’s wrong with that? I’ve been through quite a bit. So we’ll find out how it goes, but it can only get better.”

Cat Deeley has shared a rare video of one of her sons on social media – and he looks just like his famous dad.

The 48-year-old posted the short clip to her Instagram stories. It appeared to show her eldest son Milo, eight, during a dreaded trip to the dentist. Wearing a red Christmas jumper and jeans, the youngster had special dark glasses on ready for a treatment. And he looked braver than a lot of us do in the dentist chair, as it didn’t seem to bother him at all.

Though he has slightly longer hair, Milo looked the spit of his Irish comedian and actor dad Patrick Kielty, 53, who Cat has been married to since 2012. The couple also share a six-year-old son called James. The family previously lived in LA, where Cat and Patrick worked for years, but recently relocated back to the UK.

It was then that Cat landed the new This Morning presenting job with Ben Shephard, taking over from Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. The pair have been fronting the ITV show since March and seem to be a hit with viewers so far.

Cat and Patrick moved back to Blighty after 14 years living in America. But Cat revealed it was a terrifying incident involving a gunman in a shopping mall while Patrick was out with Milo in a branch of Shake Shack that prompted their return home.

In a 2020 interview, Cat explained: “Everyone was told to lie behind the counter or pushed into the loos. People were screaming and crying. Then, as they were all hiding, the FBI turned up with guns. Paddy kept Milo calm — he didn’t really know what was going on.”

“As I was driving, I began to see helicopters, news vans, firemen and armed police response squads. It makes me go funny now. It was terrifying. Paddy was shaken by it, more than Milo, who didn’t properly understand. The gun laws in America are crazy.”

“They shut down the centre. I got a call from Paddy, saying: ‘They’re taking us out through the fire exits but nobody can get to their car. If we walk to a junction, can you come and get us?'”

Thankfully, Patrick and Milo were ok, but Cat said she realised she couldn’t raise her family in the US when she started looking at schools for her boys and was warned about potential gun attacks and what the procedure was if one happened. She added: “They tell you exactly what would happen, whether the kids would go to a safe room or hide under the desks…The danger suddenly becomes a reality.”

Katie Price risked a backlash – and even a parking fine – when she moved her car into a disabled parking spot allegedly without a valid badge.

The 46-year-old mum-of-five was spotted popping too and from the parked car alongside 32-year-old boyfriend JJ Slater of Married At First Sight fame – and it appeared none of her children were with them. Katie wore a grey outfit and had a designer bag over her shoulder, with photos capturing the moment she opened the passenger seat of her car while JJ prepared to drive them away.

The photographs showed that the ground was covered in fallen leaves from nearby trees – however, the yellow outline of a disabled access sign could be seen on the ground beneath the wheels of the car that she and JJ had parked. The snaps were captured on Friday as the OnlyFans star and her reality star boyfriend spend time in Norwich – where Katie is currently starring in a production of Cinderella at the Northwich Memorial Court entertainment venue.

The star would be hoping that no one would shout “he’s behind you!” only to be confronted by the sight of a traffic warden – as her allegedly rule-breaking parking appeared to go largely unnoticed. MailOnline have shared images from the alleged moment and reported: “Katie Price was spotted parking illegally in a disabled bay in Northwich on Friday… [She] was joined by her boyfriend JJ Slater as they were seen parking in the disabled bay without displaying a valid badge.” The Mirror has contacted Katie’s representatives for comment.

Earlier in the day, Katie showed off her glamorous make-up and stylish accessories while JJ drove her around. Addressing fans in a video message that she recorded in the passenger seat, the star had her hair slicked back and wore a light pink colour of lipstick. She then showed off a Gucci handbag that she lifted up to the camera and also showed off the Gucci earrings on her lobes.

She told her fans: “I’m feeling very glamorous today. I’ve got my earrings. My matching bag. Love it! If any of you are wondering where I got my earrings and bag from, it’s Get The Look. Love it. They’ve got some nice bits on there. Check it out.” And later that day, she shared even more footage as she joined her boyfriend’s family for a meal in a restaurant.

Panning the camera around to show the collection of in-laws around her, she declared: “Nice evening dinner with the family.” And she added a caption stating: “Dinner with @johnjoeslater family and my bestie @jeydayilmaz.”

Elsewhere on Friday, Katie shared a video clip of her eldest son, Harvey, working out at the gym. Uploading a short clip to Instagram Stories, Katie watched on as he used a machine to exercise his arms – with the glamour model writing in a caption: “Proud of Harvey”.
