Chart-topping star ‘felt like world was ending’ over devastating break-up

Olivia Rodrigo, the star of her debut album Sour, has a unique take on singing about teenage heartache, and she has opened up about it in her own unique way.

Sweeping to superstardom at such breakneck speed certainly brought its challenges for Olivia Rodrigo, and recalling her meteoric rise in 2021, she has said, “It was, obviously, just absurd and crazy. I’d been writing songs and working my whole life, but it did seem sort of instantaneous.”

Speaking of the psychological impact of the sudden pressure she came under, she added, as OK! reports, “It can be really tough on your mental health. I’m grateful for the people who like me for me, and keep me separated from all the noise.”

At one point, she dealt with it by deleting her social media accounts, and she found repeated Covid lockdowns oddly helpful. “I couldn’t play a show. I couldn’t go meet people who were listening to the song. So it was very insular in a way that I think was actually really beneficial for my mental health,” she said.

Having first started therapy at the age of 16, Olivia opened up about her battles in her 2022 Disney+ film Driving Home 2 U. Describing the pain of a breakup while making her debut record Sour, she said, “It felt like my world was ending every single day.”

She once suggested that older people “trivialise” what teenagers go through, and that the advice is that it is “so real and valid.” Just because something isn’t harmful for adults or because you haven’t paid taxes yet, or whatever, doesn’t mean it hurts. She described times of crippling self-doubt when she “started believing everything I did was really bad” despite dominating the charts.

That came to the fore while writing second album Guts, and in an interview with music writer Laura Snapes in 2023, she admitted, “There were a good few months where I would sit at the piano and all I would think about was how I was never going to make something as good, or all the mean things that people on Twitter would say.”

Laura recalls the conversation that occurred, saying, “One thing I found sad when I interviewed her was her comments about insecurities about her appearance. If a young, attractive woman can feel that way, that is proof to me of how dangerous social media can be.

However, Olivia’s sincerity has some benefits, she points out. One of the things that this new generation of popstars does is talk about the pressures of being famous and how much women are expected to be, she says, is “one of the really positive things about this new generation of popstars.” People like Olivia, Billie Eilish, and Chappell Roan are telling fans, “You have to understand what we’re going through and what the personal cost is for us,” they say.

Olivia, thankfully, appears very wise and knowledgeable about taking care of herself. When touring leaves her “burned out and exhausted,” she makes a countermeasure, saying, “I do all the classic things.” Call my therapist, visit the gym, and see if I’m drinking or using any alcohol. She regularly participates in journaling. She said, “I could journal forever.

“Writing down every hazy thought that comes to mind.” I’ll make a list of all the things I’m grateful for, or if I’m anxious, I’ll make a list of them. She finds comfort in seeing her oldest pals as well during her free time. I adore spending time with my friends. That really brings me back, in my opinion. And I enjoy bringing up topics unrelated to music or industry.

Maintaining her own space is mentally beneficial as well, and she has said, “I love spending time by myself. That’s the best thing ever.” Speaking on the YouTube series Actually Me in 2021, she said it was “very exciting” to move out of her parents’ house and into her first “big girl apartment”, but later added, “It’s like a soft move out – my parents are there a lot of the time.”

One of the most difficult times for Olivia came in 2021 when she faced accusations of plagiarism in songs from Sour. When critics drew attention to a likeness between her hit Good 4 U and Paramore’s 2007 anthem Misery Business, band members Hayley Williams and Josh Farro were later credited as co-writers on her song. But it proved controversial, as many disputed the claim, saying they were two different songs with just fleeting similarities.

It opened a debate about the blurred lines of musical influence, and as BBC music correspondent Mark Savage tells us, “When you’re starting out as a songwriter, of course you try and imitate your heroes. Sometimes those imitations are more overt than others, and sometimes you might combine six or seven different influences. I think that’s something Olivia does well across her music, and for me, as long as you’re putting your own spin on a song, it’s original.”

Olivia was clearly hurt by the fallout, admitting that she was “a little caught off guard” by what transpired. She said, “I find it disappointing to see people discredit any young woman’s work by misinterpreting it.” She continued, “What’s so beautiful about music is that it can be so inspired by music that’s come out in the past,” while mentioning that Good 4 U’s lyrics and melody were written in the shower. Nothing about music is ever “new.”

Unfortunately, the same issue reared its head with her song Deja Vu, and Olivia also gave retrospective songwriting credits to Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff and St. Vincent for its resemblances to Taylor’s 2019 track Cruel Summer. Olivia later said it was “very confusing,” and that she had been “green and bright-eyed and bushy-tailed” at that stage in her career, but the saga led to a reported rift with Taylor – who Olivia grew up idolising.

She once asserted that, “I truly would not be the songwriter I am today if I hadn’t grown up being so inspired by everything she does.” However, many months later, rumors began to surface that Olivia confessed to not attending any Taylor’s Eras Tour shows that the lyrics to Vampire, which contained the words “bloodsucker, fame f*cker,” were intended to be directed at her pop rival.

When asked directly about it, Olivia replied, “How do I answer this? I mean, I never want to say who any of my songs are about. I’ve never done that before in my career and probably won’t.” She also told how she was “very surprised” when people assumed she was dissing Taylor, insisting, “I don’t have beef with anyone.”

It’s still not known whether the two people have reconciled even now. Nobody has any idea what happened there, according to Laura. Whatever you think about the circumstances surrounding the writing credits, Olivia is unlikely to ever make the error again. She was just so young, with so many formative influences, and they just came out in ways she didn’t realize until it was pointed out to her, so I don’t believe it was done intentionally.

Martine McCutcheon’s mum reveals real reason she’s estranged from daughter after tragedy

Jenny Tomlin, Martine McCutcheon’s mother, has revealed that she fell into a depression after losing her son, leading to her expulsion. She now wants to reconcile with her.

Following the tragic death of Martine McCutcheon’s younger brother Laurence John in 2022, the actress and singer was left devastated. But it wasn’t just the death of her beloved brother that broke her heart, the relationship between her and her mother Jenny Tomlin also started to crumble, leaving the pair estranged.

At the time of Laurence’s death, who was only 31 at the time, Martine, 49, famous for her role in EastEnders and the iconic film Love Actually, Martine revealed that her heart is “forever broken.”

In a job interview with OK! Jenny, a magazine, claims that Jenny was at fault for their breakup. She acknowledges that she experienced an emotional breakdown, leading to Martine’s continual reversal.

She is now desperate for reconciliation, though.

We did all the wonderful things, including the Love Actually premiere, the restaurants, but the memories I cherish are of us just sitting on my bed, laughing and bringing up old memories, Jenny told the publication. That’s what I miss.

Jenny continued, “When I lost LJ, I detached,” explaining her current state of mind. I was unable to speak with Martine because I was so devastated.

There was no serious row, she continued, “Martine contacted me for months, but I didn’t respond.” Martine needed me, too, because she was grieving. I’d like to apologize. It physically hurts for me to miss her so much.

Although there was little discussion in their conversation last year, Martine reached out to Jenny about their reunion, which was anything but what she had hoped for.

Jenny’s husband could do “some painting” in her new home, Martine had inquired. She explained that in an effort to mend their fractious relationship, she literally jumped at the chance to visit her daughter, but their union ended up being “awkward” and “the atmosphere felt heavy.”

Jenny has now gone as far as to liken her split with Martine with Victoria Beckham, who is reportedly going through the same thing with her eldest son Brooklyn Beckham.

Laurence, who was known as LJ to family and friends, did not smoke or drink, but had diabetes and acute ischaemic heart disease.

Jenny openly admits to being “abandoned” Martine because she was “so absorbed in my own grief that I was neglecting my other child” despite admitting to doing so at the time.

Jenny explains that her interview is done to avenge Martine’s disappointment.

She claimed to have called, texted, and sent cards to the mother of one, but had not received a response. She even yelled her name as she entered her home. But there was silence once more.

Jenny aspires to sit down with her daughter for a cup of tea while her grandson enjoys the garden one day.

Johnny Depp’s secret new life in rural Sussex with sprawling mansion

Locals claim that Johnny Depp has been seen “shopping quietly” and “enjoying country walks” in a sprawling Sussex mansion hidden behind Gothic gates.

Johnny Depp has traded the chaos of Hollywood for the quiet life of a secluded country mansion in East Sussex. The Caribbean actor appears determined to find peace in the rolling hills of rural England. Locals have spotted the 62-year-old Hollywood star strolling the high street in nearby Wadhurst and have also been seen wandering the grounds of his impressive and historic home.

The ten-bedroom manor dates back to the 1850s and is hidden behind towering trees, ornate gates, and Gothic statues. The estate includes sunken gardens, water features, orchards, an open-air amphitheatre, and two staff cottages. According to a report, the star has often been spotted enjoying breakfast on a terrace overlooking the Sussex countryside.

According to a local source, “Mr. Depp knows this area well and he loves it here.” It’s “a beautiful home that’s also very peaceful.”

His ties to the area reportedly began with visits to his late friend, guitarist Jeff Beck, who supported Depp during his darkest hours and even invited him to perform on stage when others turned their backs.

Depp and Sandra Beck’s widow, Sandra, are still close to each other and resided at Beck’s 16th-century farmhouse during the pandemic.

East Sussex offers anonymity in contrast to the Cotswolds, which are favored by stars like Hugh Grant, Stella McCartney, and Ellen DeGeneres.

“Johnny’s choice of a very quiet corner of Sussex rather than the goldfish bowl that the Cotswolds has become for big stars tells you all you need to know about his mindset: he wants peace and quiet,” one showbiz insider told The Daily Mail.

“And he doesn’t care if someone else leaves him with the impression that others will judge him.”

Depp’s acting career was on the verge of a halt after being accused of being a “wife beater” after losing a libel case in the UK in 2020 and then leaving key roles like Fantastic Beasts and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Although he won a defamation lawsuit against Heard in 2022, his reputation suffered a significant blow.

In a recent interview, Depp said, “I was shunned, dumped, booted, deep-sixed, cancelled, whatever you want to define it. “I’d rather not have had to go through that,” I said. Of course. But I discovered more than I had imagined.

He recently returned from Sussex to the London premiere of Modigliani: Three Days On The Wing of Madness, his first film direction assignment since 1997. Riccardo Scamarcio and Al Pacino are the stars of the movie, which is set in Paris during World War One.

Prudence Watts, 74, a multimillionaire known for her garden center and quiet philanthropy, owns his current home.

The rent for the home, which is reportedly priced between £30, 000 and £40, 000 per month is reported to be among the best in the area. Prudence Watts, the late husband of Kevan Watts, a banker credited with transforming Merrill Lynch into a significant global financial institution, owns the property.

Depp’s presence hasn’t caused much trouble in the area despite the property’s tight security. One resident said, “Being in East Sussex will do him some good,” “He seems like a really nice, down-to-earth bloke.”

Nobody among us is perfect, according to another commentator. I’m going to ask for a selfie if I see him again. He won’t have to mind, I’m sure of it.

‘Prince Harry misunderstood his own family – he was never a Spare’

According to one expert, the Duke of Sussex had a much more significant position within the Firm than the King, which he claimed was responsible for.

A royal expert believes that Prince Harry misinterpreted his role as the “save” in a royal palace.

Prince Harry has long claimed that he has lived his entire life in the shadow of Prince William as the ‘spare’, even using it as the title for his tell-all autobiography. According to the Duke of Sussex, his role as the second born son to the King was to be a back-up monarch in the event his older brother was not able to fulfil his role as the future King.

However, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes that Prince Harry had a more important position to play within the royal family at large: one that he could’ve learned from his aunt, Princess Anne. The King’s sister, who was also dubbed the ‘spare’ as the second sibling to Charles, has led a life devoted to the Firm, often referred to as the “hardest working royal”.

Prince Harry

As Harry wrote in his memoir, it was his father King Charles who first used the harsh nickname of ‘spare’ to refer to his youngest son, in reaction to Princess Diana giving birth to a second boy. Harry said his dad’s words were: “Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare – my work is done.”

Prince Harry should have consulted with the Princess Royal about how to support the royal family throughout his life, according to Jennie Bond, rather than focusing on his unofficial title of “pare.”

Bond told the Mirror : “She could have told her nephew that ‘playing second fiddle’ is the wrong way to look at his status. Instead, as she has shown, the second born can be an invaluable support to the institution of monarchy, and a vital friend, confidant and wingman/woman to the monarch.

She could have said that they are a team, a company, working together to maintain the monarchy’s relevance and to support charities and local communities.

The Duke can’t wait for his aunt to help them reach a peaceful resolution, according to the royal expert, who also believes that Prince Harry could use his relationship with Princess Anne to mend the royal rift with his father before it is too late.

Yes, Anne would have been the ideal person to offer advice and guidance, but sadly Harry has made it abundantly clear that he has no desire to live as a working royal.

The former BBC royal correspondent also questioned whether Princess Anne was aware of the extent of the family rift and whether she would not want to participate in revisiting the Harry and Charles drama.

She said, “I’m not sure if the King and Anne would want to get involved, though it might be that the King has had a conversation about his family issues.” Loyalty is important to Anne, and I suspect she understands why Harry has treated his father, his brother, and the monarchy poorly. That might be difficult for her to forgive.

Gerry Kersey dead: BBC Radio Sheffield legend with 50-year career dies

Age 86, Gerald Kersey passed away.

The former BBC Radio Sheffield presenter, who had enjoyed a 50-year career in the field, passed away on Friday with his wife Christine by his side. He is said to have had some health before he passed away.

The “true legend of local broadcasting,” according to Katrina Bunker, the head of BBC Yorkshire. She remarked, “Gerry was a true legend of local broadcasting, who began his career in 1968 as one of the first voices on BBC Radio Sheffield.”

With his paintings in exhibitions and a love of performing in theaters, Gerry launched his radio career. He had an “alarmingly unbalanced life” in a 2018 interview with the Sheffield Star due to juggling two jobs in the 1970s: his radio career and his advertising work.

His father worked for 39 years at Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield, which has since replaced his previous job, which was a gigantic steelworks site. As a wages clerk for the company for four years, Gerald spent a lot of time wandering through the rolling mills and furnaces.

He claimed to The Star in 2022 that the air was filled with chemicals, hot, sticky, dark, and dangerous, but it also had a magnificent stage with molten steel, sparks, and tough fit men manipulating massive forgings and machinery.

With my wife’s full support, Gerry said, “I would take it on and see what I could do, despite the fact that it was only earning £12 per week.”

The radio personality of Gerry gained notoriety on BBC Radio Sheffield and independent station Radio Hallam as a result.

His former co-stars have since expressed their gratitude to the “super talented” broadcaster, with football reporter Alan Biggs tweeting: “Radio listeners in Sheffield will mourn Gerry Kersey’s passing. Gerald was a staple of both Radio Sheffield and Radio Hallam (where I was fortunate to work with the kindest bloke). Super talented, as well as being an actor and artist. Thinking about Gerry’s family and numerous friends.

He continued, “Not just in Sheffield. If more characters were permitted for the post, I would have said South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. Some wonderful, sincere, and sincere words that Gerry’s family will surely appreciate.

Whitney Houston’s tragic final moments ‘feasting on food’ with gravy boat in bathtub

We look back at the premature end to the Bodyguard actress’ life after selling more than 170 million albums and winning six Grammys.

Whitney Houston was once the dazzling star of pop music, but her life was in ruins.

The How Will I Know singer was just 48 when she died, after battling drug addiction for decades. Despite entering rehab on numerous occasions, Whitney had been unable to break free from the addictive substances that shaped her life.

Shockingly, the star earned £76 million over the years but by the time of her death in 2012, her fortune was all gone. We take a look back at the final days that marked a tragic end to Whitney’s once glittering career…

The singer from New Jersey was unmatched in her ability, but after marrying Bobby Brown in 1992, her drug use grew even more severe. The same year, Whitney made her big-hitting debut with The Bodyguard.

She admitted to spending seven months in her pyjamas, sitting on the sofa, and taking crack cocaine, “after The Bodyguard it started getting heavy – cocaine, marijuana.” You are residing with the same person as them while you are seated next to them, and you haven’t said a word in a week. And you simply sit there watching TV. That’s awful, she said.

I had completely forgotten about that life when I stopped thinking about singing. By that point, I was running out of money.

In 2004, Whitney failed again the following year after only five days of rehab. She admitted to Oprah that she was drug-free in 2010, but that year she canceled a number of her planned gigs in the UK and America due to ill health.

By 2011 Whitney was recovering from surgery, and she was scheduled to perform a comeback at the Grammys in Los Angeles a few days prior to the ceremony. Whitney reportedly appeared “dishevelled” and “erratic,” and was spotted waving her arms around while navigating the Beverly Hilton hotel while donning wet hair.

Whitney and Bobby

The singer made her final public appearance on February 9th, when she sang Jesus Loves Me while Kelly Price was playing the song. She had her daughter Bobbi and her family at the hotel for breakfast on July 11; according to sources, she later retired to Suite 434 and took some Xanax before Clive Davis’ party, which she was scheduled to attend that evening.

After nights of heavy drinking, a source told Radar Online, “She frequently took anti-anxiety medications to help her sleep.” She also used them to ease her nerves before big events.

Whitney apparently then called her cousin, singer Dionne Warwick, to discuss seating arrangements for the evening, followed by another call from her mother, gospel singer Cissy Houston, who the magazine described as “joy and upbeat.”

She is said to have told her assistant that she had a sore throat and was going to take a bath before the pre-Grammys bash.

The troubled actress then reportedly demanded more room service and a burger and fries while taking a bath. Along with a gravy boat of olive oil, she brought a turkey sandwich and some jalapeno peppers into the bathroom to presumably make her skin softer.

Her bodyguards, according to the report, audibly audible her singing in the bathtub. However, they realized she had been quiet for some time just before 3 p.m.

When one guard knocked on the door and found Whitney face down in the bathtub, there was no response. Therefore, he opened the door and discovered her. The iconic singer was declared dead at the scene by paramedics who attempted to perform CPR.

According to toxicology reports, Whitney’s system contained a mixture of cocaine, cannabis, Xanax, Benadryl, and Flexeril. The Bodyguard actress’s autopsy revealed that her heart condition had advanced to the point where it was 60% blocked in one artery.

Whitney’s death was described as an accidental drowning brought on by heart disease and cocaine use. Her daughter Bobbi Kristina and Brown both had similar experiences just three years later, historically speaking. After consuming drugs and alcohol, Bobbi was just 22 when she was discovered unconscious in a bathtub at home.
