Patrick Kielty returned to his BBC Radio 5 Live show this morning for the first time since his split with Cat Deeley was announced and he was in jovial mood in the opening minutes

Patrick Kielty has returned to the radio for the first time since announcing his shock split with Cat Deeley – and he joked about “missing out” on a job at Match of the Day.

The Northern Irish comedian and presenter married the This Morning star in Rome in 2012 and they went on to have two children together. However, their love story has since come to an end, and Patrick addressed the nation on his BBC 5 Live return. Opening up his show, he said: “It’s lovely to be back. We are coming to you from sunny Belfast and we’ve got Michael Andrew looking after things here.

“We’ve got Sammy and Craig looking after things in London. It takes a village folks to make this show sound so average, but it is not just me who is back… Oh no, what is this? It is a little welcome back letter from the head of the BBC.”

In self-deprecating joke, the Match of the Day theme tune then played, and Patrick read out: “Dear Mr Kielty, thank you so much for your application to be a host on Match of the Day. Unfortunately every other host employed by the BBC is currently working hosting on this show therefore we don’t need your services. Don’t call us, we will call you, Tim Davie.

“Thanks for that Tim, I shouldn’t have read that out on air!”

Match of the Day returns tonight after the Premier League kicked off yesterday (August 15) and the hosts replacing Gary Linekar are Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates.

Cat, 48, and Patrick, 54, met while hosting BBC’s Fame Academy together in 2002 before making their first appearance as a couple in 2011.

Patrick, who is the host of The Late Late Show in Ireland, previously opened up on Loose Women about how their friendship turned to romance.

He said: “There was a moment, we always used to keep in contact, it was her birthday, and she was in Beverly Hills and I was in Dundrum (County Down).

“And obviously LA are eight hours behind, it was around tea time with her. I texted her happy birthday from a little Irish pub. It was around two-o-clock in the morning, approaching closing time.

“And she said, ‘It is just a shame you are not in LA because I’m having a lunch tomorrow’ – so I said I will be there.

“So I got up at five, jumped on a six-o-clock flight from Ireland, got into Heathrow at seven, and jumped on a 20 to 10 flight, got in at quarter past one, walked into the Beverly Hills Hotel. I said ‘hi’, she fell off the chair, and we have been together ever since.”

In a joint statement to the PA news agency last month, Cat and Patrick said: “We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved.

“We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected.

Spice Girl Mel B indulged in a lavish destination wedding with husband Rory McPhee just weeks after their London nuptials as her child Angel gave her a ‘beautiful’ surprise

Mel B was given a “special” surprise by her child Angel for her second wedding to Rory McPhee. The Spice girls star was thrilled to have her three children present at her second wedding day in Marrakesh at the luxury boutique hotel Salmen.

Mel shares Phoenix, 26, with dancer Jimmy Gulzar, Angel, 18, with Hollywood star Eddie Murphy, and Madison, 13, with Stephen Belafonte. Each of the children played a part in the big day, with Phoenix walking her down the aisle, Angel performing groomsman tasks for Rory, and Madison acting as a bridesmaid.

Speaking to Hello about how important it was for her Mel shared, “That meant the world to me. It was the most amazing day and was so full of love. It exceeded all our expectations.” She then explained more about Angel and how he surprised her.

The morning of her wedding saw Mel preparing for her “spiritual” ceremony with her bridesmaids, which she planned for one month after her lavish London ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral. Mel B, her sister Danielle and her niece Mimi among others in the bridal party had their hands and feet inked with henna as as symbol of health and happiness.

The women then got wedding-ready changing into red satin bridesmaid dresses from New Look. Angel meanwhile was preparing with Rory and the groomsmen, including Rory’s father, John, and brother, Jordan.

Angel wore a traditional smart black suit for the event, adding a white shirt, bow tie and chunky platform shoes. Mel confessed the look was quite the surprise and she only saw her son’s outfit for the first time as she walked down the aisle.

She explained, “I knew that Angel was getting ready with Rory and his groomsmen, so it was really quite beautiful, because I didn’t even know what he was wearing until I walked down the aisle.”

Mel was so overwhelmed by the beautiful moment with her family surrounding her that she took a wrong turn when walking down the aisle with Phoenix, who was dressed in a gold sequin dress with spaghetti straps to give her mum away.

Mel made her entrance wearing a wedding dress from Justin Alexander, and walked down the aisle to the soundtrack of Alicia Keys’ hit No One as the sun set around her, creating a stunning glow around the hotel grounds.

Seeing the funny side to the mishap Mel said, “We get things wrong all the time, and in true Brown tradition, we walked down the wrong side of the aisle instead of in the middle.

“Even though Rory and I had overseen every detail of the wedding, I hadn’t seen the aisle until I walked down there, and it looked so beautiful that I burst into tears.

“Phoenix was saying, ‘Are you OK? What do I do?’ And I said, ‘Phoenix, just hold my hand.’ She said: ‘Right, OK; you’ve got this, Mum.'”

Peter Andre broke his silence on co-parenting his kids with Katie Price last week in a strongly worded statement – which, a source warns, is just “the tip of the iceberg”.

The Mysterious Girl singer, 52, came out fighting amid a stream of recent accusations from Katie about their children, Princess, 18, and Junior, 20, after staying virtually silent on the topic since their bitter divorce in 2009.

In a post on social media, Peter wrote, “For 16 years, I have stayed silent in the face of repeated lies from my ex-wife and her family, out of respect for my children and loved ones, but staying silent has been incredibly frustrating. That ends today.”

A source has claimed Peter has been given “no choice” but to speak out, saying, “He’s broken and been pushed to the brink. He’s had enough of Katie’s lies, and has kept a dignified silence for 16 years as he didn’t want anything to upset Princess and Junior.

“But she has left him no other choice. His mum is very ill and all of this is so stressful,” they added. “He just wants this to stop for the sake of his family.”

Peter was responding to Katie’s attempts on her podcast to “clear up” confusion about Princess and Junior’s living arrangements. On The Katie Price Show she said, “Princess lives with me and she stays with her dad. She has been staying at her dad’s the past two months because she has been filming her show.”

Just hours later, Peter released his statement – which was ‘liked’ by his wife of 10 years, Emily MacDonagh. In his statement he said the two children were placed in his care “for their safety” in 2018.

He wrote, “The latest comments about my children’s welfare and living arrangements compel me to set the record straight. For well-documented reasons, and for their safety, Junior and Princess came into my care

in 2018 and remained with me until they reached adulthood. In 2019, the family courts issued a legally binding order to enforce this arrangement.” He added, “I have never made this public before, out of respect for my children.”

He went on to state that the courts found Katie “had made false claims” on two separate occasions, in 2011 and 2015, and that “she was ordered to pay substantial damages and legal costs, and to apologise to me and my management”.

In a parting shot, Peter implied this was just the start of his fight-back, writing that her “baseless accusations” would be “dealt with in the coming months”.

Shortly afterwards, Katie’s camp released a statement saying the mum-of-five was “at peace with the situation” and didn’t feel the need to bring up “tit for tat comments”.

“More importantly she’s dealing with this the right way and it’s now in her lawyer‘s hands. Kate will no longer be gaslighted and bullied as she once was,” her team said.

Our source added, “Kate is saying it’s ‘tit for tat’ since Pete has issued his statement, but for the last few weeks all Katie has done is discuss Pete. Peter is totally fed up and felt he had no choice but to correct things in a statement – but that’s the tip of the iceberg.”

The latest drama started when Princess, who turned 18 in June, bagged her own reality show on ITV2, The Princess Diaries. Katie accused Pete’s management team, who also manage Princess, of excluding her from the show. She has also claimed that they have banned her from attending Princess’ public events.

“I’m not allowed and not welcome,” she claimed recently, adding, “They won’t allow Princess to do photoshoots with me, they won’t allow me to go to any events with Princess because they think I am trash, basically.”

Pete’s management firm, The CAN Group, said, “We would never stop any of our clients seeing their family. It’s not something we would get involved with.”

Our source added, “All Pete wanted was for Princess’ show to be a success and for it to be about her. He’s only in the show because Princess lives with him and Emily and he wanted to support her.”

Former Celebrity Big Brother star Katie expressed her concern last week that the situation was having a negative impact on their children, particularly Princess.

“I’m proud of her and I just want to be there with her, because now I feel like I’ve missed out on so much, and it’s so not fair to [make] Princess piggy in the middle,” she said on her podcast. “So I think it’s about time all of us adults just sit down and talk about what their beef is with me and just get over it.”

However, our source said, “Katie’s suggested that they sit down and talk, but years ago Peter tried to do that and she wasn’t interested. He’s tried so hard in the past and it’s never happened.”

When we approached Peter’s representative for a comment, they said, “Peter has released a statement and won’t be commenting further at this time.”

It’s a hectic time for Essex-based Olly, 41, and Amelia, 32. The pair, who married two years ago, have their hands full with toddler Madison, who appears with them in the Parent Hood campaign. Outside of daddy duties, singer Olly has just finished his latest tour and he is still presenting his Heart FM weekend radio show alongside fellow M&S ambassador Mark Wright. With fitness enthusiast Amelia due to give birth imminently, OK ! caught up with the couple to discuss all the highs and lows of parenting…

Hi guys. Congrats on your role as The Parent Hood ambassadors. It seems a great match… Amelia: Yeah, I feel like everything has aligned at the right time. We’re so proud to be part of this as a family. Olly: The fact we could do the photo shoot with Madi and the bump was really special. M&S is an amazing brand and part of British culture, and hopefully we can inspire more parents to go to the clubs. It began with you going to the club, didn’t it Amelia? Yes, I’ve been a member almost since it formed. It can be quite lonely as a mum, but this gives you a sense of community, and a reason to go out. There’s so much parents don’t know, but you can learn about everything from weaning recipes to what kind of nursing bra to buy. Olly: It’s lovely that mums can go and just have a chat. You know, “Am I doing it right?”, “This happened today”, “Oh, my god, I did the same thing.” It gives you a bit of reassurance that everyone’s going through the same thing. Are you both keen to be honest about the challenges of parenting? Amelia: I’ve tried to be a bit more open recently, especially while Olly’s been away. Olly: There’s no point being all happy and Instagrammy and, “It’s all amazing.” I’m very honest. Being parents is unbelievable, but at the same time it’s extremely hard. Being pregnant, Amelia hasn’t been able to go the gym much, which is her hobby. You don’t want to lose who you are, so it’s about finding a balance. What advice have you given your mate Mark Wright about his and Michelle Keegan’s baby girl Palma? Olly: People said to me, “Olly, enjoy the first four months. They’re the best time.” And I was like, “What?” When Madison came it didn’t feel like that. I told Wrighty that and he took it on board. I’ve been saying, “Enjoy your trip to Majorca, because, trust me, when Palma is crawling or walking in a few months, that’s a whole other level.” I also warned him about the weaning stage. You think they’re choking and your wife’s like, “It’s fine – she’s just got to learn how to use her mouth.” What’s it called? The gag reflex. I’m like, “Babe, I can’t. I’m off to sit in the other room.”

Do you think Palma and Madison will grow up as friends? Olly: I hope so, being around the same age. And with us being parents at the same time, it’s going to be special. We haven’t had time to make it work because our schedules are so mad, but we will when things calm down. Wrighty and I have already spoken about going on holiday and just being together, which will be fun. We’ve got such a good friendship, and I really want Michelle and Amelia to meet properly. I’m sure they’ll have loads in common. How’s Madison doing? Olly: A few weeks ago, she was the best I’ve ever seen her. For two weeks, she ate everything Amelia gave her. But for the last three or four days, it’s been, “Nope, don’t like that.” It’s the same food as last week! What’s going on? She’s babbling away now. It sounds like she’s speaking French or German. Which one of you is she most like? Amelia: She’s very like Olly in that she loves an audience and is very extrovert. But she’s also quite independent and if we’re trying to feed her she’s like, “I’m doing that myself” – with spaghetti going everywhere. Olly: Me and Amelia can both be very stubborn. She’s definitely got that part of us. Who’s the best nappy-changer? Olly: We have two different styles. Amelia’s very precise and it’s a real experience. Madi’s got her toys and she’s all calm. Me, I’m like an F1 pit-stopper, I just get it done quickly. Do you think you’ll be a strict dad when Madison is older? Yeah, because that’s how my parents were with me. I think discipline and respect are important. I don’t want her to have any self-entitlement or to feel like she deserves anything more than anyone else. I want to her to be grounded. Are you managing to squeeze in some date nights ahead of Baby No.2? Olly: We were meant to go to Wimbledon, but it was 36 degrees, so we didn’t think it was a good idea. Amelia: We’re dropping Madi off to Olly’s mum later so we can do some clearing out. Does that count? With another baby due, there must be lots of different emotions… Amelia: It changes week by week as I get closer to having the baby. We can’t wait to meet who’s in there and see Madi with a sibling. But I get a bit overwhelmed when I think of having two under two. Olly: We know we can do it and it’s going to be fine. The most important thing is that the baby is healthy.

Did you have an unplanned C-section last time? Amelia: We were planning a natural birth, but Madi was in a precarious position. She was transverse [sideways] so we didn’t have an option. The recovery was brutal and I wish people had been more honest about that. Maybe it’s because I’m active, but I didn’t realise how much I wouldn’t be able to do afterwards. You’ve chosen not to find out the sex, but do you have a hunch? Amelia: It’s hard to tell, because I was convinced Madi was a boy. But I do think this one is a boy. Olly: Obviously, that’d be cool, but I’m swaying more to thinking it’s a girl. I’d love that, I genuinely would. Have you planned this birth yet? Olly: We’re reaching the point where we have to make decisions. But this feels like a different pregnancy. Amelia: We know that this baby’s not transverse, which is good. Olly: We’re very excited and announcing this thing with M&S has made it much more real. Two or three more weeks and we’re gonna be right back at it!

Hi, Pamela! Everyone’s talking about you and Liam Neeson. How was it working together?

Liam’s fantastic. Everyone, I think, is going to fall in love. He’s had an incredible career, starting in theatre and being part of acting royalty, starring in Schindler’s List and all his other films. So it was intimidating. I was afraid to meet him. I was literally shaking the first day I came to rehearse with him. But he’s such a gentleman, such a sweetheart, so giving and generous, and so complimentary and supportive that, you know, you can’t help but fall in love with him.

The chemistry between you two is fantastic…

We do have chemistry and, you know, off-set, he’s silly. He has that little boy sense of humour. Yeah, he’s funny. On set, I don’t think we broke too much, but in rehearsals, we’d be playing around and having a bit of a laugh. But we’d still be shooting the film today if we laughed at everything! Some of the crew had to hide in corners, and the video village was really far away, in some kind of soundproof room, so they could not laugh.

What attracted you to doing a comedy film?

Well, I’ve kind of restarted my career — I did Chicago on Broadway, then The Last Showgirl . I thought it would be a nice juxtaposition to do a high comedy after a drama. It was exciting to play with, and I really respond to comedy. The fact they even thought of me for this was so exciting. I’m glad I did it.

Were you a fan of the original movies?

Oh, I love the Naked Gun s. They were really funny — such crazy, silly comedies. The world needs that right now. Everyone needs a good giggle, and this movie definitely has some of those.

So what can people expect from this film?

It’s just one laugh after another. I think people will love all different parts of it. There’s definitely an audience for this. It’s a genre, but silly — you know, burst-out-laughing stuff. It’s really wild.

How did you prepare to play your character, Beth?

I work a lot on the character before I even get to the set. Whether it’s a drama or a high comedy, you still put the work in. So we talked a lot about her backstory and the storyline. The director was very scientific with the jokes, but I also wanted to bring honesty, authenticity and vulnerability to Beth. I see some sincere and tender moments, which I don’t think you’d expect in a film like this. I was proud to see that.

What were your favourite scenes to shoot?

I think the montage is one of my favourites. I loved all the snowman scenes, he was really cute. But it was all exciting and fun. It’s interesting to work with such an incredible actor as Liam, because I’m soaking it all in like a sponge. I feel new at this, so I really pay attention and observe him, on and off camera. How he conducts himself is really incredible to witness and learn from.

You’ve got a scene where you sing in a jazz club…

I loved that scene. The song was scripted, it wasn’t improv, so I had to learn it. I still sing it in the shower — I can’t get it out of my head. It kind of started a little Fabulous Baker Boys and went into, like, craziness. It was something I was worried about at first, but then I just jumped into it, and it was fun.

Is this a film that’s better to watch on the big screen?

Any movie is seen best at a movie theatre — especially this one, with all the stunts and craziness. There’s a lot of stuff going on, there are layers. If you see it a second time, you might see something different. There are a lot of references and funny things in the background. So yes, it’s definitely one of those movies you need to enjoy on a big screen, with popcorn and friends — you’ll get a greater kick out of it.

Your son Brandon encouraged you to do The Last Showgirl . What input did he have with this film?

Brandon and my other son Dylan actually saw an early cut of this film before I did. I got the call, “Mom, it’s funny. It’s really funny. You and Liam are great.” They were so excited about it. They don’t pull any punches. They’re my harshest critics, as sons can be, but that gave me a bit of confidence because they wouldn’t say that if they didn’t love it. There’s a new generation of kids who don’t know these movies and are craving some real slapstick belly laughs.

Your fans seem to be really embracing this second act in your career. What do you think has been the best part?

Oh, thank you. Just working. It’s a happy surprise that I get to do this again. I’ve gone home and thought, “OK, I’ll make pickles and bake bread and make my life beautiful, no matter what.” But I had this real craving to do more in this industry, so I’m really grateful.
