Jeff Lynne’s ELO fans have been booted out of Manchester’s Co-op Live arena after the gig was cancelled just minutes before the band were due to start. Thousands of ticketholders were left disappointed when they were informed that the performance would not be going ahead tonight.

Jeff Lynne’s ELO took to X to an announce that the show had been cancelled “due to illness” and that Jeff was “devastated” that he could not perform. “Unfortunately due to illness, tonight’s scheduled performance of Jeff Lynne’s ELO at the Co-op Live will not be going ahead. Fans soon took to social media to share their upset, with one writing: “Tonight’s ELO concert cancelled at 8.10 pm. Jeff Lynne too ill. Devastated. Hope he’s ok. Had tickets since December.”

“THEY CANCELLED ELO TONIGHT BECAUSE JEFF IS ILL????? YOU CANT MAKE THIS UP WE’RE ALL BEING BOOTED OUT,” a second wrote.

“Jeff Lynne’s ELO cancelling 12 MINUTES before they’re due on stage. That’s tragic,” posted another.

The band performed their the first night of their Manchester leg last night, with Jeff revealing that he injured his hand while in London.

“I was in London and a taxi dashed off from where he was coming from and smashed my hand. It really hurt at the time. That’s why I haven’t got a guitar – I normally would have,” he explained.

A fan who was at Wednesday night’s gig told The Mirror that the injury appeared to affect Jeff’s performance.

“At the start of the set he came on and couldn’t play the guitar because he has injured his hand.

“He sounded shaky to begin with but his singing and energy picked up and was great until the last 10 minutes of the show.

“A chair was brought onto the stage and he had to sit down to sing the last few songs, he appeared to be unsteady on his feet at the end and was helped off the stage by staff.

“He really wasn’t well, it was obvious to fans at the gig he wasn’t himself and it is sad to see.”

Katie Price ‘drops out of headline gig’ just days before as organisers disappointed

Organisers have said that Katie Price has dropped out of an event just days before she was due to perform. The news was shared today, with it suggested that she will no longer take to the stage due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

Katie, 47, had been due to make an appearance at Barnsley Pride over the weekend. The event – which is just one of the Pride celebrations that are taking place in the UK this summer – will be held in the town of Barnsley on Saturday. She was scheduled to headline the afterparty at nightclub Funny Gals. It was previously advertised that Kerry Katona, 44, would be the headliner, with Katie said to have replaced her pal after she previously pulled out of it herself.

Organisers of the afterparty shared the news on social media this afternoon. They wrote: “Important announcement. We sincerely apologise to all our visitors who are looking forward to join us for our Barnsley Pride 2025 events.”

They continued by saying that Katie would no longer headline. Organisers wrote: “Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Katie Price will no longer be headlining our Funny Gals Main Stage / After Dark Official Pride Afterparty.”

Fans were told that those behind the event were “disappointed”. They said: “We want to make it clear that this is beyond our control and that we are genuinely disappointed, as we were very excited to have her as part of our line up of amazing acts.

“Additionally, the original headliner, Kerry Katona, also had to cancel due to personal reasons. The entire team here at Funny Gals shares in this disappointment, and we deeply regret any inconvenience or disappointment caused.”

Organisers then provided details of the “incredible line-up of acts” that are still scheduled to perform. They concluded: “We look forward to celebrating pride with you and thank you for your understanding and continued support.”

It’s stated that the afterparty will feature drag artist Vicki Vivacious, who appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK back in 2023. The line-up for the event is said to also include X Factor’s Sami Brooks, a Pink tribute act and other performers.

Last month, Katie performed at a Pride event in Portsmouth. She later shared that she had an “amazing night” at Portsmouth Pride, where she performed songs such as We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off and I Got U.

Katie, who was joined by her daughter Princess Andre at the event, was seen on stage in footage shared on social media. At one point, she brought reality TV star Ella Morgan onto the stage.

They paid tribute to each other at the gig and Katie said that despite speculation they “love each other”. She also poked fun at Ella having been romantically linked to Katie’s partner JJ Slater whilst on Married at First Sight.

Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams star, 18, ‘lost control’ before fatal crash

An inquest heard that 18-year-old Umar Kamani, who appeared in Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams, died after losing control of his car while speeding at nearly 80mph on a bend

A teenager who appeared on Freddie Flintoff’s Field Of Dreams was driving at over 80mph on a 30mph road when he was killed, an inquest has heard. Umar Mahmood, 18, suffered serious injuries when the car he was in, an Audi A3, left the road and collided with trees in Preston on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. He later died in hospital.

His death was confirmed by his school’s Principal, Mr M Eastham. Another pupil at the school, 16-year-old Adam Bodi, also died in the tragedy.

An inquest has now heard that Mahmood’s Audi A3 Sport hit a kerb four times before ploughing into two trees and overturning on its side. Bodi, 16, died when he was catapulted into and over the front seat forcing the driver into the dashboard. The teen was not wearing a seatbelt while sitting in the car.

Crash data later revealed a different picture as Lancashire Police collision investigator PC Anthony Grey told the court airbag sensors showed the Audi had hit over 80mph just before impact, striking the first tree at 78.9mph.

The crash happened on Chain Caul Way in Preston, on a mild S-bend, on the night of September 10, 2024. PC Grey confirmed the car had no mechanical faults.

Two passers-by, Andrew Hood and Harry Worthington, were first on the scene and described seeing a “dark shape” in the road which was the vehicle’s engine. Smelling fuel, they tried to pull the teenagers from the wreck, fearing the Audi might explode.

Adam died in hospital hours later, while Umar passed away two days after the crash. Coroner Kate Bissett concluded both died from traumatic brain and lung injuries caused by a road traffic collision, calling the loss “a tragedy that the families will do well to ever recover from”.

Umar had previously appeared on Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams BBC show. A statement read at the time: “We are again saddened as a school to hear the news Umar, who was in the same accident as Adam, and who left Priory two years ago, has also passed away. Another boy, 17, suffered serious injuries in the crash and is in a stable condition in hospital.

“Umar was a bright, studious and well-loved member of our school community. He had a passion for Geography as well as his cricket, playing for Priory’s school team and appearing in the BBC One documentary Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams.

“It was a privilege for us here at Priory to know Umar. He was a young man who was always considerate to those around him and who showed ambition and kindness in all that he did.

“It is of course with great sadness we hear this news. We give our sincere condolences to all of Umar’s family and friends on behalf of the school, at what will be a very difficult time. They too, are in our thoughts and prayers today.”

The school added of Adam: “Adam was an amazing pupil, of whom we have nothing but fantastic memories. He was popular, bright, confident and had a fantastic sense of humour alongside being a first-class footballer, who had been part of our football team here at Priory for five years.

“We know that the rest of his year group will be equally upset at losing one of their own. Adam was a fantastic young man, and he, his family and friends are very much in our thoughts and prayers.”

The car crash comes after Flintoff’s own car crash in December 2022 which nearly claimed his life. The star had been driving an open-topped three-wheeled Morgan Super 3 at high speed when it flipped over. He later said of the accident: “Week and a half after my accident. Genuinely should not be here after what happened.

“This is going to be a long road back and I have only just started and I am struggling already. I need help. I really am not the best at asking for it. I need to stop crying every two minutes.

“I thought I could just shake it off. I wanted to shake it off and say ‘here I am, I’m alright’. But it’s not been a case of that, it’s been a lot harder than I thought. As much as I wanted to go out and do things, I have just not been able to.”

Kneecap slam London Underground advert ban as ‘petty act of political interference’

Belfast rap trio Kneecap claim their latest poster was banned from the London Underground for potentially causing offence as they accuse authorities of political censorship

Irish rap group Kneecap have claimed that their latest promotional poster has been blocked from appearing on the London Underground, accusing authorities of censorship and “political interference.” In a statement shared on X, the Belfast trio wrote: “We’ve been banned from advertising on the London Tube.” They claim the decision marks a shift in treatment: “After using the tube to advertise loads of times for gigs, records and our movie, all without issue.”

The ad in question promotes their upcoming Wembley show and features the band’s name alongside a balaclava-style logo reminiscent of those worn by paramilitary groups during the Troubles. The poster reads: “Kneecap. OVO Arena Wembley, London. Thurs 18th September ’25.”

According to the group, the ad was rejected because “it is likely to cause widespread or serious offence to reasonable members of the public on account of the product or service being advertised, the content or design of the advertisement, or by way of implication.”

Responding to that reasoning, Kneecap added: “How petty can political policing and interference get… Speak out against genocide and they’ll use every single angle they can to silence you.”

The group have faced intense scrutiny recently, particularly after member Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh (aka Mo Chara) was charged with a terrorism offence in May. The charge relates to his alleged display of a Hezbollah flag at a 2024 performance in north London. He is due to appear in court next month.

In a bold response ahead of that court date, Kneecap rolled out billboards across London bearing the message: “More Black, More Dogs, More Irish, Mo Chara” – a reference to the discriminatory signs seen in post-war Britain targeting Irish and Black immigrants.

On 18 June, Ó hAnnaidh and bandmates Naoise Ó Cairealláin and JJ Ó Dochartaigh were greeted by supporters outside Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Despite mounting controversy, the band continues to draw major crowds. They sold out Glasgow’s O2 venue in just 80 seconds earlier this week.

However, their set at this weekend’s TRNSMT festival was abruptly pulled after police raised concerns. The band was met with huge support in Glasgow following their cancelled slot on TRNSMT in the city. Fans gathered outside the band’s show and shared their support for the Irish rap trio despite them being axed from festival slots.

The three members of Kneecap arrived at the O2 Academy in Glasgow on Tuesday evening and were greeted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators waving flags. The band from Belfast was recently axed from the line-up of TRNSMT in the city following a row over an investigation by counter-terror police into Liam Og O hAnnaidh.

The singer, who performs as Mo Chara, is accused of terrorism offences related to a Hezbollah flag he allegedly held up on stage, but denies the charge.

Before the show, which sold out in 80 seconds, a number of fans and demonstrators spoke to the PA news agency to share their support with the band. One called Meghan explained how she and her friend Amy had originally planned to go to TRNSMT. However, they decided to go to the Kneecap gig instead.

She claimed it was “disgusting” the band had been dropped from the line-up, saying: “I think people are just scared for them to express proper problems in the world. They just want to shy away from it whereas Kneecap just come out and say it like it is.”

Another fan added: “We’re of the opinion the establishment is so under threat, they’re having to look to ridiculous means to try and silence outspoken voices. We applaud Kneecap.”

Their June Glastonbury performance, which followed Bob Vylan on the West Holts Stage, is also under review. Avon and Somerset Police are now investigating both acts for comments made on stage.
