Ringo Starr’s son Zak Starkey cancels gig at last minute due to terrifying health scare

Zak Starkey has been forced to cancel his performance at the last minute following a health scare.

The son of Beatles icon Sir Ringo Starr had been due to perform in London on Tuesday night. However, he had to pull out of the gig and was rushed to see medics just hours before due to a blood clot in his leg. Zak, 59, and his band Mantra of the Cosmos were due to play a secret gig in Soho yet doctors immediately put the drummer on bed rest.

The musician, who has performed with Oasis and The Who, has been given a two-week course of blood thinners. Mantra of the Cosmos is made up of Zak, Happy Mondays stars Bez and Shaun Ryder as well as Oasis and Ride guitarist Andy Bell. Bez, Shaun and Andy were still able to attend Karma Sanctum Soho but didn’t perform.

They celebrated the band alongside fans and insisted Zak’s health is “the most important thing”. Shaun even joked: “As soon as I get out of here I’m going to take some tights to get on Zak’s legs. ” The band decided to screen their latest performance at Liverpool’s iconic Cavern Club to fans while Zak rested at home.

Bez told the crowd: “First of all can I say how special it was to play the Cavern with Zak Starkey. He’s never been to the Cavern before and it felt special. It was better than anything I ever imagined in my life. I couldn’t believe how good it was. To play there… I had to show off right at the end, ‘His f***ing dad’s Ringo Starr! Know what I mean? ‘ We felt like the Beatles – well I did for a little moment! “

Mantra of the Cosmos performed at two shows at the venue this weekend and had a little helping hand from pal Noel Gallagher. Zak told the Liverpool ECHO: “It was very surreal. I was s***ting it – proper s***ting it until I got on there and it was amazing. The music is like holy music isn’t it. Before I was s***ting my pants. I was sitting in my room and I text Noel saying I was s***ting it. He said ‘get down there and get on, what are you talking about? ‘. “

Asked if he found the occasion daunting, Zak said: “No, this is our band – it’s not daunting, it’s just great. But The Beatles are daunting. ” Zak first met Oasis star Noel in a London rehearsal room in early 1995 when he was in a band called Face before he began drumming for Oasis in 2004 – playing on albums Don’t Believe The Truth and Dig Your Own Soul.

Noel joined Mantra of the Cosmos for their latest single Domino Bones, as Zak said: “It’s not every day that the greatest songwriter of my generation – not to mention Shaun, the greatest beat poet of our times – sends a tune to me and I was in a daze for a bit cos it’s not something you want to f*** up.

“It came together great – everyone digs it. Noel loves Shaun. He texted me to say ‘Do you know what you’ve got? The British Bob Dylan’ – and he’s not f****g about because now I’ve witnessed what Shaun does. Noel calls him the ‘king of lyrics’. ” Noel praised: “Mantra Of The Cosmos is like Dylan, Dali and Ginsberg on a rocket ship to the moon to have it with the clangers. “

Adele slammed for ‘blighting’ sale of £6million house by claiming it’s ‘haunted’

Superstar Adele has been accused of ‘blighting’ the sale of a £6 million country mansion she lived in for six months – by claiming it was haunted.

The ‘Someone Like You’ star told a chat show that Grade II listed 10 bedroom Lock House in West Sussex was ‘quite scary’.

Now the owner says he has been forced to try to transform the converted convent into flats rather than find a buyer because the singer has made it ‘unsellable’.

Nicholas Sutton said that her remarks ‘negatively impacted future marketing’ – and even led to a prospective buyer pulling out of a potential sale.

After detailing a history of issues with the property in Partridge Green, Sussex, Mr Sutton – who said it’s ‘reputation’ was affected by the singer – is now seeking permission to transform the mansion into three houses and a cottage.

The Edwardian property is set within acres of formal gardens and mature grounds with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a tennis court and helicopter pad.

In 2012, Grammy-Award winning star Adele, now 36, rented the home for half a year but did not renew her tenancy after claiming it was haunted.

It was believed the singer – estimated to be worth £170 million – lived there with her then boyfriend and now ex-husband, Simon Konecki. In an interview with CBS that year, she told host Anderson Cooper that her house – which was said to have ‘almost no furniture’ – was ‘a bit of a cliche’.

“This bit’s all quite scary, really,” she told him. “It was a convent for a little while. ” At the time, it was reported that the singer – who had released award winning album 21 the previous year – had asked her bodyguard to move in with her over fears it was haunted.

And, she was reported as saying the home ‘gives me the creeps’.

In a planning application presented to Horsham District Council, Mr Sutton said the property, which is currently up for sale for £5,995,000, operated as a convent in the 1970s before it was bought by him in 2003.

Upon acquiring it, he undertook ‘significant refurbishment’ in which he converted the chapel used by the nuns into a family kitchen and installed a swimming pool, among other changes.

Mr Sutton claimed that since renting the property to Adele, he has struggled to sell the home.

“Unfortunately, during an interview on CBS, Adele remarked that she believed the house to be haunted,” he said.

“This comment negatively impacted future marketing efforts and continues to affect the property’s reputation to this day. “

The homeowner said after Adele made the remarks, he re-listed the house for sale and ‘despite renewed marketing efforts, no offers were received’.

He said he has ‘actively tried to sell the property for about 14 years’ and despite the property being ‘consistently marketed by top agents’ – like that of Savills and Strutt and Parker – he said no offers have been forthcoming.

Mr Sutton added: “Full marketing efforts were made, including brochures, professional photography, advertising in Country Life, national PR campaigns, and exposure on all major property portals. “The only offer received over the years was in August 2020, but the prospective buyer withdrew after learning about the property’s supposed haunted status, which was publicly mentioned by Adele during her tenancy.

“The property has been extensively market-tested for over a decade, yet it has consistently failed to attract buyers. It retains an institutional appearance and requires substantial ongoing maintenance and refurbishment, which limits its appeal in the residential market.

“When rented out this has been unsuccessful on all 3 occasions. The first Tenant Adele stayed for 6 months and blighted the property saying it is haunted. “

Mr Sutton said there were also issues with the second tenant, ‘a high-net-worth individual from Monaco’, who only paid the first quarters rent after ‘undergoing gender reassignment surgery’.

Mr Sutton is seeking permission to transform the mansion into three houses, and to also convert and existing garage and flat into a cottage.

Urging Horsham District Council to grant permission, he said the application represents a ‘culmination of over 13 years of market testing’ which shows there is a ‘lack of demand for the property in its current form’.

He said: “This proposal provides the optimum viable use of Lock House, preserving its historical significance while delivering much-needed housing.

“It offers a balanced, sensitive, and sustainable solution that aligns with both heritage protection and housing policies, ensuring the long-term preservation and vitality of this important historical asset. ” The council are yet to make a decision.

Mr Sutton sought planning permission last year to convert the mansion into five flats, but this was turned down by the authority. He has now made this new application, which will be decided at a later date.

Shop the sustainable knit Carrie Johnson isn’t taking ‘off from now until summer’

If one of your goals for 2025 is to shop a bit more sustainably and mindfully, we’ve found just the knitwear brand for you and even Carrie Johnson is a fan.

Posting to her Instagram stories this week, Carrie Johnson gave a shoutout to her Fairsile knit cardigan that fans had been asking her about, letting us know it’s from sustainable knitwear brand, Herd. The exact cardigan Carrie is wearing is the Fleetwood Cardigan in Ecru with Shrimp & Loam, £595.

Of course, this is a hefty price to pay. However, Carrie says, “They’re definitely investment pieces, but I’m not taking mine off from now until summer. ” We agree that the positive of buying sustainable pieces is the cost per wear you get out of them. As the knits are handmade from high-quality wool, they will last for years and years and also keep you warm in icy temperatures.

The Fairisle knit has been made from the brand’s very own fully traceable, super soft Bluefaced Leicester sheep wool, with the yarn taken from the sheep blended to create natural shades or dyed using plant extracts and naturally occurring mordants. On top of this, the buttons are made from nuts, so the entire piece is completely circular.

Billy Ray Cyrus breaks silence on ‘trainwreck’ performance at Donald Trump inauguration

Billy Ray Cyrus has spoke about after he faced backlash for performing at Donald Trump’s second inauguration.

The country singer joined the likes of Carrie Underwood, Village People and Nelly in giving performances to mark Trump’s return to the White House. Billy’s performance didn’t go as smooth sailing as he might have hoped as it was plagued by technical difficulties. He ended up performing Old Town Road without proper equipment.

Struggling with the issues, he tried singing a cappella but was overheard asking the crew if his guitar was working. He asked: “Is my guitar still on? I think they cut me off. I don’t hear my guitar anymore. ” Frustrated by the ongoing problems, he told the audience: “Y’all want me to sing more or you just want me to get the hell off the stage? I don’t give a damn. “

Viewers branded the performance a “trainwreck” and “embarrassing”. Billy decided to speak out on the backlash as he said: “I wouldn’t have missed the honor of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar and monitors worked or not. ” He added to People: “I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me.

“I had a ball at the Liberty Ball last night and I’ve learned through all these years when the producer says: ‘You’re on,’ you go entertain the folks even if the equipment goes to hell. ” The singer defiantly branded the situation “rock n roll” and insisted he had a “blast” despite the issues.

Carrie Underwood also faced technical difficulties when her backing track failed, forcing her to sing without music. Last year, the Achy Breaky Heart singer performed at the funeral of Corey Comperatore, a man shot and killed at a Donald Trump rally. The 76-year-old presidential candidate was also injured during the rally when Thomas Matthew Crooks attacked him in Pennsylvania.

Billy performed hymn Amazing Grace as well as his own song Some Gave All. The singer decided to perform at Trump’s second inauguration despite once mocking his daughter Miley Cyrus. She supported Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 2024 election and previously branded Trump a “racist, sexist, hateful a**hole”.

Last summer, Trump shaded Miley at a rally that Billy happened to be at. “Billy Ray Cyrus is here. Where is Billy Ray? He’s around here someplace, and he’s great,” Trump said at the event. “He’s a conservative guy. I said, ‘How did you get such a liberal daughter? How had that happened, Billy Ray? ‘”

The once close daddy-daughter duo’s relationship went downhill when Miley’s mum Trish and Billy split. They had been married for almost 30 years and it has been reported Miley took her mum’s side. Their relationship became even more strained when Billy moved on and married Australian singer Firerose, who’s 25 years younger than him.

Billy and Firerose split just seven months later amid an audio leaking that saw him brand Miley a “devil” and a “skank. ” It was reported in November that Miley and Billy’s relationship was severed and she intended to never speak to him ever again.

Sad Clown: ‘Joker 2,’ Phoenix And Gaga Nominated For Razzies

“Joker: Folie a Deux” was nominated for seven Razzies on Tuesday, leaving the sad clown atop the annual tongue-in-cheek list of the worst movies of the year.

The flop musical follow-up to 2019’s billion-dollar-grossing “Joker” picked up unwanted nods such as worst picture and worst sequel.

Joaquin Phoenix — who won best actor at the Oscars in the first “Joker” film — is nominated for worst actor, alongside Lady Gaga for worst actress.

The film took in $200 million — around one-fifth of its predecessor’s box office, despite being far more expensive to make — and was savaged by critics.

In a year of several high-profile expensive flops, the parody prizes awarded six nods to Francis Ford Coppola’s confusing epic “Megalopolis,” and Dakota Johnson’s much-mocked superhero spin-off “Madame Web. ”

Fawning presidential biopic “Reagan” and video game adaptation “Borderlands” equally incurred the wrath of Razzie voters with six.

Jerry Seinfeld’s “Unfrosted,” a somewhat surreal original story for Pop-Tarts pastries, earned four.

Voted for by some 1,200 members of an irreverent group that any film fan can join, the Razzies — or Golden Raspberries — were created as an antidote to the movie industry’s self-obsessed series of glitzy award shows.

Nominations for this year’s Academy Awards will be announced Thursday.
