Queen Camilla’s poignant plea to ‘never forget’ atrocities in emotional speech

Queen Camilla has declared we must “never forget” the atrocities of the Holocaust in a moving speech at the Anne Frank Trust’s annual lunch.

Camilla, 77, addressed over 600 guests in the impressive Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Park Lane in London who had gathered to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and the death of Anne Frank. Paying tribute to the 15-year-old who died in Bergen-Belsen just before the end of the war and whose diary of her time in hiding has been read by millions worldwide, the Queen said: “Her story demonstrates that even the quietest, loneliest voice in the wilderness can change the world. That is the true power of words. “

She urged those gathered to “heed the warning” of Holocaust survivor Marian Turski, who warned against complacency in the wake of rising antisemitism. Speaking at the ceremony to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, he said: “Don’t be complacent… Because if you become complacent, before you know it, some kind of Auschwitz will suddenly appear from nowhere and befall you and your descendants. “

The Queen concluded her five-minute-long speech by saying: “Let’s unite in our commitment to take action, to speak up and to ensure that the words ‘Never Forget’ are a guiding light that charts a path towards a better, brighter, and more tolerant future for us all. “

Camilla, who became the first royal patron of the Trust last year after enjoying a long-standing relationship with the charity, arrived at the glitzy London hotel shortly after 12pm, where she attended a reception in the Wellington Ballroom Harvest Suite. She was greeted by key members of the charity, which focuses on Holocaust Remembrance and anti-prejudice education, and some of their key supporters, including Rob Rinder, Emma Barnett and Sir Stephen Fry.

Her Majesty spoke briefly with two Holocaust survivors and John Wood, the son of a British Army Officer who was the first to arrive at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp on the day of its liberation. Speaking to Maia Tribich MBE, 94, a Polish-born British Holocaust survivor who was sent to a labour camp and two concentration camps during the Second World War, the Queen said: “Oh, you were there at Bergen-Belsen at the same time as Anne Frank? ” Her Majesty then sat down to watch a 15-minute short presentation by 14 young people from four Anne Frank Trust partner schools, introduced by Mr Rinder.

The charity, which empowers young people aged nine to 15 to recognise and challenge all forms of prejudice, partners with schools to deliver educational programmes to young people across the UK. In 2024 it partnered with 263 primary and secondary schools and engaged with more than 55,000 young people. Roya Namigili, 16, from Horizon Community College, said: “I’m working for a future where no one is judged for who they are and where remembering stories like Anne’s ensures we never ignore injustice. “

Before proceeding into the ballroom, Camilla met the youngsters who spoke on stage and told them: “You did very well. ” The Queen walked into the impressive room to a standing ovation, joining survivors of genocides or hate crimes on stage. Among them was Chanaka Balasuriya whose shop was looted during the Southport riots.

Following a short introduction by Emma Barnett, the Queen was invited to light the first candle in an act of remembrance before Tim Robertson, Chief Executive of The Anne Frank Trust UK. Mr Robertson mentioned the record-high reports of antisemitic incidents in the UK, fuelled by the Israel-Gaza conflict. “Holocaust education is a higher importance now, than every before,” he said.

Established in 1991, The Anne Frank Trust was established by friends and family of Otto Frank, following his wish for an education organisation to be set up in memory of his daughter, Anne. The German-born Jewish girl was just 15 when she died of disease at Bergen-Belsen in February or March 1945.

Before being captured, she hid with her family for over two years in a secret annex in Amsterdam and wrote a diary which has since sold over 35 million copies. Her father was one of the survivors liberated on that day, along with the Anne Frank Trust’s co-founder and Honorary President Eva Schloss.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Rinder said the Queen’s involvement in the Trust means “so much”. He said: “What she can do is to bring light on it [discussions on the Holocaust]. We are in a world with Holocaust denial, anti-Jewish racism, but her very presence spreads light into those dark corners. “

Eva Clarke BEM, who was born in Mauthausen concentration camp, Austria, on April 29 1945, commended the Queen’s speech, saying: “It represented exactly what the Trust aims to do, to continue to counteract racism. ” On Monday, the King will travel to Poland and attend commemorations at Auschwitz to mark 80 years since the liberation.

‘Call of Duty’ Tops US 2024 Games Charts

The latest instalment in the “Call of Duty” first-person-shooter series topped American video game sales in 2024, figures released Thursday showed, with the overall market slightly smaller year-on-year.

Video games raked in a total of $58. 7 billion last year, the research firm Circana said, down 1. 1 percent on the previous year.

“Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” from Microsoft-owned Activision plunges players into a guns-blazing alternate timeline for the aftermath of the Cold War.

The US top seller in 2023 had been “Hogwarts Legacy”, an adventure game set in the universe of “Harry Potter”.

Circana’s figures did not include gamers who accessed titles through Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

“Black Ops 6” was available through Game Pass from the day of its release, in a first for the “Call of Duty” series.

Second-placed American football title “College Football 25” from Electronic Arts moved enough copies to become the top-selling sports game of all time in the United States.

Sales of games and online content grew two percent over the year, but there was a 25 percent slump in hardware sales, with several years since any major new console releases.

The only notable arrival in 2024 was the upgraded “Pro” version of Sony’s flagship Playstation 5.

The PS5 remained the top-selling console in the US, followed by Nintendo’s Switch.

Japan-based Nintendo announced last week that its follow-up, the hotly anticipated Switch 2, would arrive sometime this year.

Biggest Oscar 2025 snubs as Angelina Jolie and Pamela Anderson miss out on nominations

The Oscars nominations have finally been revealed after weeks of delays due to the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

The 96th Academy Awards ceremony is set to be hosted by US comic Conan O’Brien and will take place on 2 March.

Nominations for this year’s coveted event were due to be announced last week, yet had to be postponed after the voting period was extended. Blockbusters such as Wicked and Dune: Part Two are expected to compete with one another alongside Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist.

Actors Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott have been given the honour of revealing this year’s nominations. The awards season for movies released in 2024 began with the Golden Globes. Emilia Pérez led all of the winners with four wins including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, while The Brutalist won three Golden Globes including Best Motion Picture – Drama.

Meanwhile, nominations for the Producers Guild Awards have also been revealed, which could give a taste as to what to expect at the Oscars. The 10 nominees are Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, A Real Pain, September 5, The Substance and Wicked.

However, some very big names were left off the list that has shocked fans. Film fans were gobsmacked to see that Selena Gomez, who had the role of a Mexican drug lord’s unhinged wife who acts in desperation after she believes her spouse died, missed out on a nomination.

In a surprising turn of events, her co-star Zoe Saldana was nominated for her part as a lawyer who helps the drug lord transition into a woman and begin a new life. Karla Sofía Gascón, who is the lead actress in the production, was also nominated ahead of Selena.

Film fans were also shocked to learn that Hollywood icon Angelina Jolie was snubbed for for her role as opera singer Maria Callas in Maria. Elsewhere, Nicole Kidman missed out on a nod for her performance in Babygirl. The Australian-born actress played Romy Mathis, a married tech company CEO who begins an affair with a young intern (Harris Dickinson).

Pamela Anderson was also a star who missed out on a nomination for her impressive performance as a Las Vegas performer in The Last Showgirl. And Stanley Tucci was also overlooked in the Best Supporting Actor for his powerful performance in Conclave.

Diddy launches huge lawsuit after ‘bombshell celebrity sex tape’ claims

Rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has filed a lawsuit amidst claims a witness allegedly has videos of him abusing celebrities and children.

The disgraced music mogul is currently behind bars at the ruthless Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he is awaiting trial after being charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, transportation and engaging in prostitution. The rapper, 55, is expected to be locked up until his trial kicks off on May 5, 2025.

Outside of the criminal charges he is facing, Combs has been sued by several people who have brought civil actions claiming he subjected them to physical or sexual abuse, including his former girlfriend, R& B singer Cassie. Combs has strongly denied all allegations.

Combs has named Nexstar Media Inc, music manager Courtney Burgess and his attorney, Ariel Mitchell, claiming that they had been “fabricating outlandish claims and stirring up baseless speculation. ” In the lawsuit filed on Wednesday in New York, Diddy claimed that the trio had been spewing “wild lies and conspiracy theories. ” He demands a sum of $50,000 in damages for the claims.

Last year, Burgess was summoned to testify against Diddy and claimed he had videos on several flash drives allegedly showing Diddy’s alleged sex tapes. It’s alleged that the footage includes male and female celebrities, as well as minors. Burgess claims that he had given the tapes to Kim Porter, the late actress and mother of Diddy’s children.

In the lawsuit, obtained by the Mirror, it states: “Defendant Burgess falsely claimed that he possessed videos of Mr. Combs involved in the sexual assault of celebrities and minors. Burgess repeated this false claim many times to anyone who would listen, including reporters for major news outlets (includingNewsNation, which recklessly repeated and amplified his lies as if they were true).

“Thus, Burgess’s baseless lies were rebroadcast on social and traditional media platforms that reach millions of viewers in the United States and abroad. ” Ms Mitchell who represents Burgess told NewsNation that she could “verify” that a video exists and contains that the male celebrity was “more high profile” than Diddy.

She added: “There’s no question of if it’s that person in the video”. The lawsuit continued: “His attorney, Mitchell, repeated those lies. Like Burgess, Mitchell knew that her client’s claims were false, or at a minimum was utterly reckless in disregarding their falsity. Because no such tapes exist, and because Mitchell never saw any video depicting Mr. Combs sexually abusing anyone, adult or minor, Mitchell’s many false assertions that Burgess possessed such videos were either knowingly blatant falsehoods or recklessly false statements made as the direct result of Mitchell’s inexcusable failure to investigate her client’s outrageous lies.

“Burgess peddled his false and defamatory statements about Mr. Combs to promote himself on social media. Mitchell did the same. Both seek to capitalise on the resulting publicity for financial gain. ” The filing explains that scandal-hit Diddy has “became famous for his extraordinary and historic achievements as a musician and music producer, hip hop impresario, record label owner, fashion innovator and icon, pathbreaking spirits entrepreneur and committed philanthropist. Mr. Combs is among the most accomplished businessmen of his generation. “

It went on to explain that in September 2024, he entered a plea of not guilty to the charges he faced and is currently preparing to contest the government’s evidence at trial. “Mr Combs has faith in the integrity of the judicial system and is confident the jury will acquit him,” it adds.

It’s stated in the documents that the allegations published by the Defendants caused “substantial repetitional and financial harm to Plaintiff, and damaged his right to a fair trial on the government’s charges against him. ” It adds that the Defendants published the statements without privilege to a third party, before adding that the Defendants published the claims with “actual malice”. “Defendants published these statements with knowledge of their falsity or reckless regard for their veracity. “

In a statement shared with the Mirror, Diddy’s attorney Erica Wolff said: “Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is taking a stand against the malicious falsehoods that have been fabricated and amplified by individuals seeking to profit at his expense. These defendants have willfully fabricated and disseminated outrageous lies with reckless disregard for the truth. Their falsehoods have poisoned public perception and contaminated the jury pool. This complaint should serve as a warning that such intentional falsehoods, which undermine Mr. Combs’s right to a fair trial, will no longer be tolerated. “

Speaking to TMZ, Ariel said: “This is just a pathetic ploy to silence victims and people who stand up for victims. Diddy has time to sue but refuses to accept service for the lawsuits already filed against him. I look forward to countersuing and ensuring the court punishes not only Diddy but also his lawyers who filed this pathetic lawsuit for this frivolous and meritless filing. “

Courtney Burgess and Ariel Mitchell were not immediately available to comment.

Molly-Mae Hague ‘especially animated’ as she reunites with ‘relaxed’ Tommy Fury

Molly-Mae Hague looked ‘especially animated’ as she reunited with ex-fiancé Tommy Fury this week.

The Love Island couple, who met on the ITV2 programme in 2019, have been sparking rumours of a reunion after being spotted kissing on New Year’s Eve and liking each other’s posts on social media. The reunion speculation only came a couple of months after their shock split after five years together.

Earlier this month, The Mirror revealed that Molly-Mae and Tommy had been secretly “rekindling” their relationship, five months after announcing their breakup. Friends told us that they had been left confused after the reality star spoke of the hardships she’s faced as a single mum.

They recently reunited for Bambi’s second birthday celebrations, with Tommy arriving at her Cheshire mansion to spend time with his daughter and film scenes for a currently unknown programme. However, it is likely to be part of Molly-Mae’s Amazon series, Behind It All.

As Tommy arrived at the pad, Molly emerged in her pyjamas, carrying Bambi on the eve of her birthday. In pictures shared online, the entire family were all smiles as they hung out. Body language expert Judi James said the former couple looked ‘very relaxed together’, with ‘no signs of the tension or dour facial expressions from their last outing, prior to the NY kiss’.

Speaking to The Mirror, she said: “Molly looks especially animated here, placing here fingers up to her lips or pulling her pyjama top around her as she seems to be in shared parenting mode. She looks rather sweet and childlike herself here in a look that is reminiscent of the matching pyjama sets she and Tommy and Bambi used to wear to show family love and unity in some of their previous Christmas portraits.

Judi added: “Tommy looks more relaxed here, too. He’s not quite smiling but he looks in a more positive mood with Molly Mae. ” The pair have attempted to downplay their romance starting again – but many were quick to share their own views on social media.

One fan said on social media: “It’s probably a soft launch expect to see more snippets of him before the official announcement. ” A second added: “I also think they’re definitely back together and it will be announced in the last episode of her Amazon prime series. “. Meanwhile, Molly-Mae and Tommy have been sharing snaps from Bambi’s second birthday celebrations, which included a homemade cake and a themed party.
