Auf Wiedersehen, Pet star Maya Woolfe dies at 72 as tributes pour in

Auf Wiedersehen, Pet star Maya Woolfe has died. Fans have paid tribute to the star, remembered for delivering “the best quote in Series 1”.

The official social media channels for Auf Wiedersehen, Pet announced on Friday afternoon “with sadness” that the actress had passed away at the age of 72.

Maya was known for her role as Uli in episode 11 of the first series of the ITV comedy-drama, which follows a group of North East construction workers. She also made appearances in other popular shows including BBC’s Doctor Who, where she played a receptionist.

The statement released read: “With sadness we announce the passing of Maya Woolfe who played Uli in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet Series 1, Episode 11, ‘The Lovers’. Maya’s many TV appearances included ‘The Professionals’, ‘Bergerac’, and ‘Doctor Who’. We send our deepest sympathy to family and friends at this difficult time.”

In the memorable episode ‘The Lovers’, which aired back in January 1984, Maya’s character Uli becomes the love interest of Oz Osborne, portrayed by Jimmy Nail, after Wayne Norris, played by Gary Holton, mistakenly identifies him as a wealthy tycoon’s son.

Following the news of Maya’s death, fans have been reminiscing about her iconic line in a scene with Oz at the posh bar, The Tivoli.

During their date, when discussing Oz’s supposed inheritance of his father’s ‘business empire’, Uli asks: “In the meantime you are just one of the boys? ” leading to Oz’s classic retort: “Look again, pet. One of the men.”

Fans have been quoting a beloved line from the script in their touching tributes to Maya, with one fan declaring it as “the best quote in Series 1”: “Part of the best quote in Series 1: Uli: ‘so until then, you are just one of the boys? ‘ Oz: ‘look again Pet, one of the men’.”

Others took to social media to express their sorrow with messages like, “Sad news. One of the best ever episodes.” While another lamented the loss by saying, “Sad loss, she played her roll very well.”

“Sending love. One of my early loves is Auf Wiedersehen Pet x,” wrote someone else. Maya also appeared in BBC’s Doctor Who where she played a receptionist.

She then had a role in series two of The Detectives as a secretary. Her other credits include Wilde Alliance, The Professionals, Tenko, Bergerac, Triangle, Lief zijn voor elkaar, The Black Magic Man, C.A.T.S Eyes and Dutch Cops.

This comes after the model and TV personality recently revealed herskin cancer diagnosis on Instagram Stories on Valentine’s Day.

In an emotional video, she confessed: “I don’t really know how to say this and I didn’t know whether to come on and say it but I feel like I have to raise awareness of this. Today I have been diagnosed with a form of skin cancer.”

She added: “You just never know. I’m really shocked at what I’ve been told today but I’ve been really supported by the Macmillan nurses at the hospital.

“I am going to have to have an operation to see if it has spread. But yeah, just honestly, not what I expected today.”

Danielle had previously discussed another family health concern on the Nappy Days podcast in 2021, where she spoke candidly about her son Harry’s ADHD diagnosis to host Mia Boardman.

She expressed her reluctance to “label” Harry, but acknowledged the importance of securing the necessary support for him, noting his inability to sit still, frequent arguments and concentration issues.

When asked by Mia about when she first noticed something was different, Danielle admitted she’d known since he was a baby.

Danielle opened up about her concerns for her child’s health from an early age, sharing with Mia: “I’ve noticed since he was a baby. Like, obviously, because he was born so early, they told me that he was more than likely going to have cerebral palsy. Yeah, I was, obviously, thinking the worst,” reports the Liverpool Echo.

When prompted about the signs of ADHD, she observed key differences in his behavior compared to his brothers: “Obviously, having four boys, like, I noticed straight away that he was very different to the others.”

She reiterated that he had trouble sitting still and would fidget, had issues concentrating in school, and would say the “most inappropriate things” at the “wrong time”.

Despite the challenges, she also highlighted his affectionate nature: “But he’s just so loving, like, and he doesn’t understand why he does some of the stuff he does, which is also really hard for him.”

However, she added that they could talk about what ADHD was and he could explain to his friends; for example, if he was being bullied, he could tell people that he has the condition.

Following her own diagnosis, Danielle, mother to five children and married to Michael O’Neill, stressed the importance of seeking medical advice for suspicious symptoms: “Anyone who thinks they’ve got something funny on their body – please go to your doctor. You just never know.”

EastEnders’ Max Bowden and Danielle Harold spark feud claims after social media dig

Max Bowden and Danielle Harold have sparked speculation of a fall out.

They may have shared a close bond both on and off-screen, but it seems the soap stars have hit a bump in the road after unfollowing each other on Instagram. Max, 30, who currently plays Ben Mitchell, and Danielle, 32, who portrayed Lola Pearce, have starred alongside each other for years. On-screen, the pair were involved in storylines where their characters even shared a child. However, Danielle’s character, Lola, was killed off in a heartbreaking cancer storyline back in May 2023, marking her exit from Albert Square.

Harold continued to appear as Lola sporadically via the character’s video diaries until 25 December 2023 and made further appearances via video footage on 20 June 2024 and 11 September 2024. Meanwhile, Max has played his role since 2019.

Since then, the actress has appeared on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, along with other TV ventures like The Weakest Link and Celebrity Hunted last year. She recently reunited with her ex-co-star Max for a special Celebrity Antiques Road Trip to celebrate the 40th anniversary of EastEnders.

The pair celebrated their excitement on the project, with Danielle telling Road Trip star Ishy Khan how close she is to her fellow soap co-star. “We’re really close, really close,” she said. “It’s nice to do something fun. With EastEnders, our storylines are really heavy and really sad.”

Ishy quickly brought up Danielle’s career in EastEnders, reflecting on the impact of her character’s storyline. She specifically pointed out how heartbreaking and tragic Lola’s ending was, pointing out the emotional toll it had on both the audience and the cast.

She said: “It didn’t end on a great note…” Danielle responded: “No, it did not end on a great note at all.” The conversation then turned back to Maz and Danielle’s strong friendship. Ishy remarked: “You can tell there’s love there.” Harold agreed: “Yeah, there is. He loves me really. He pretends like he don’t, but be does.” However, reports from The Sun now suggest that the pair have reportedly unfollowed each other on Instagram, sparking rumours of a potential fallout.

It comes as fans have been gearing up for the anticipated 40th anniversary of EastEnders. The episode will go live and Walford’s residents fight to save their friends and neighbours inside the Vic. Denise takes a big step as she chooses between Jack and Ravi, following a public vote where fans decide who she should be with.

Starting from Monday 17 February all episodes will drop simultaneously on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 7:30pm. A special hour-long episode will air on the show’s anniversary (Wednesday 19 February), followed by a full live episode on Thursday 20 February, which will not only reveal who Denise chooses but will conclude an explosive week of drama in Walford.

The Masked Singer’s Natalie Cassidy breaks silence on rumours EastEnders co-star is Pufferfish

The Masked Singer star Natalie Cassidy has spoken out on rumours that her EastEnders co-star Shona McGarty could be unmasked as Pufferfish this evening.

As the Masked Singer reaches a crescendo this evening fans of the popular ITV show are eagerly trying to unpick clues as they attempt to guess the identities of the remaining celebrities. Speaking on her Life With Nat podcast, the former EastEnders actor has given her verdict on whether Pufferfish could be her former co-star Shona.

Chatting to her eldest daughter Eliza while admitting that she has no idea of Pufferfish’s true identity she did admit that there was definitely a possibility that it could be the actress. She said: “It could be Shona, because Shona’s voice is amazing. Why have I not thought of that already?”

Earlier in the podcast the 41-year-old recalled one particular moment from her time on the ITV show, as she admitted that she was left in tears by Pufferfish’s “beautiful voice” during her rendition of Barbra Streisand’s Don’t Rain on My Parade. However, she insisted that she had no inside knowledge of the other contestants identity.

Natalie also addressed rumours online suggesting that it could be Little Mix star Perrie Edwards behind the Pufferfish costume, with daughter Eliza also adding that she would be her guess.

Meanwhile, as the five remaining celebrities battled it out for a place in the final last weekend, Natalie was finally unmasked as Bush after rumours had circulated amongst fans for some time that the former EastEnders star could be behind the costume.

While Natalie has also appeared in the likes of Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Big Brother, it was for her role as Sonia Fowler in EastEnders that she became a household name across the country. However, after an impressive 22 year spell on the soap, she announced last month that she would be stepping away, saying: “EastEnders is in my bones so I will never forget where I started my career and I will continue to love the show.”

The Masked Singer returns to our screens this evening at 7pm (Saturday, February 15) on ITV as the judges Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Maya Jama and Danny Jones will crown the champion.

Gladiators legend feared she’d be ‘paralysed or dead’ after suffering horrific injury

Former Gladiators’ sensation Diane Youdale, famously known as Jet, has recounted a terrifying ordeal that left her fearing for her life during a live performance.

Speaking to the People Are Deep YouTube channel, the TV icon, who celebrated her 55th birthday earlier this week (Thursday, February 13), revealed her brush with death while attempting a complex stunt at a 1996 Gladiators event at Wembley Stadium.

Reflecting on the harrowing experience when she was only 26, Diane recalled: “I was sort of scraped off on one of the gurneys and taken off in an ambulance, and as the ambulance was approaching the hospital, I remember thinking I’m okay I can move my hands,” reports the Daily Express.

Despite initially feeling alright post-incident, she confessed that the injuries could have been lethal. She continued: “So what I’d done is, I’d compressioned cervically, the spinal cord bruising, but no break and had it been a break consultant had said it would have been a hangman break so you’d either be paralysed or dead.”

Jet, who had previously sustained minor injuries on the show, described the difficult decision to quit following her recovery at home: “I just suddenly thought I can’t go back into that arena.”

Away from competing in the hit show, Diane also pursued a career in the music industry at 24 and even made it onto the UK charts with her debut single ‘I Don’t Know’, later releasing her album ‘No Covers’. After her Gladiators journey ended, she co-hosted the final series of the children’s programme, Finders Keepers.

She also briefly returned to the game show that launched her fame, serving as a reporter on Sky’s revival of Gladiators in 2008. In addition to her entertainment career, Diane has since trained to become a psychotherapist.

While Diane was one of the stars of the original incarnation of the much-loved game show, Gladiators was revived for the second time in January last year when the show began airing on BBC One with father and son duo, Bradley and Barney Walsh taking up presenting duties. The show returned screen with resounding success, with a reported nine million viewers tuning in to watch the first series.

Sabrina Carpenter takes savage swipe at Barry Keoghan in Dolly Parton music video

Sabrina Carpenter has taken a savage dig at her ex, Barry Keoghan, in a Valentine’s Day music video for a new rendition of Please, Please, Please, featuring Dolly Parton.

The original video, released last June, starred Irish actor Keoghan alongside Carpenter while they were still an item, depicting the pair getting cosy in prison.

However, following their break up in December, Carpenter seems eager to rewrite history with a fresh take on Please, Please, Please, bringing in the country singer as a guest artist. Since its release on YouTube on Friday, the new version has already racked up 3.2 million views.

The video showcases Carpenter and Parton in a black-and-white, Thelma and Louise-style sequence, cruising in a pickup truck. It concludes with a shot of a man tied up and gagged in the truck’s trailer, a bag over his head.

Eagle-eyed fans have spotted that the man’s attire bears a striking resemblance to what Keoghan wore in the original music video. And fans are lapping up the plot twist.

“Barry was the only man to ever survive a Sabrina video so she had to come back and make things right,” one YouTube commenter quipped.

Another chimed in: “This is so much shade to Barry and I couldn’t love it any more.” Meanwhile someone else quipped: “You don’t mess with our Sabrina. She was always way too good for him anyway.”

Please, Please, Please was the second single from Carpenter’s sixth album Short n’ Sweet. She has since dropped a deluxe edition with five additional tracks, including the new version of the song which features Parton.

Keoghan hit back at the online backlash over the relationship break-up, saying he received messages filled with lies, hate, and disgusting comments. He wrote: “The messages I have received – no person should ever have to read them.

“Absolute lies, hatred, disgusting commentary about my appearance, character, how I am as a parent and every other inhumane thing you can imagine.

“Dragging my character and everything I worked extremely hard for and stand for. Talking about how I was a heroine baby and how I grew up and dragging my dear mother into it also.
