Motown legend Smokey Robinson is under active criminal investigation in Los Angeles following a string of sexual assault allegations.

The probe comes just weeks after a £410 million civil lawsuit was filed by four anonymous women accusing the 85-year-old singer-songwriter of abuse, false imprisonment, and gender violence. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed its Special Victims Bureau has opened an investigation into the allegations. “The investigation is in the early stages, and we have no further comment,” the department told the Mirror.

The legal action, filed on May 6 in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that Robinson sexually abused four Hispanic women who worked as housekeepers in his home.

The plaintiffs – identified only as Jane Does 1 through 4 – claim the abuse spanned nearly two decades, beginning in 2006, and included incidents of coerced sex, physical intimidation, and the creation of a hostile work environment.

Robinson, a powerful figure in American music and one of Motown’s original hitmakers, has denied all allegations. His attorney, Christopher Frost, accused the plaintiffs of fabricating their claims in a bid for financial gain.

“We feel confident that a determination will be made that Mr Robinson did nothing wrong, and that this is a desperate attempt to prejudice public opinion and make even more of a media circus than the Plaintiffs were previously able to create,” Frost said. “The truth will come out. Exposure to the truth is a powerful thing.”

Frost dismissed the lawsuit as “manufactured” and said that the only reason a police investigation was initiated was because the plaintiffs had filed a formal report. He also criticised the inclusion of Robinson’s wife, Frances in the lawsuit, where she is accused of contributing to an abusive work environment.

According to the 27-page complaint, the plaintiffs allege that Robinson repeatedly pressured them into sexual encounters, physically blocked exits to prevent them from leaving rooms, and created an atmosphere of fear and coercion.

Some women said they delayed coming forward due to concerns over retaliation, public shaming, or fears that speaking out might endanger their immigration status.

At a press conference held shortly after the lawsuit was filed, the women’s attorneys described Robinson as a “serial and sick rapist who must be stopped.”

The women seek at least $50 million (£37.5 million) each for 11 of the 16 causes for action, plus damages for five other causes. Robinson’s legal team denounced the press event as a “bizarre” and “manipulative” attempt to sway public opinion.

Frost said the lawsuit is part of an orchestrated media campaign and promised that a formal legal response is forthcoming.

“We will have more to say in the coming days as we make our legal response, and in time Mr Robinson will respond in his own words,” the lawyer added. “We ask anyone following this case to reserve judgment as the evidence comes to light and all the actual facts of the case unfold.”

Smokey Robinson, born William Robinson Jr., is a legendary figure in the music industry.

Paddy McGuinness’ new money making project as he cashes in after expensive divorce

Christine and Paddy McGuinness first announced they were going their separate ways back in 2022 as they shocked the nation with their split

Paddy has a new project(Image: BBC)

Paddy McGuinness has reportedly got a new money making project up his sleeve as he cashes in after going through an expensive divorce. Christine and Paddy split back in 2022 but it seems that the TV star now has a new job to make some money after the divorce.

It was reported in October 2024 that Paddy would be keeping the pair’s £2.5million mansion after the divorce was finalised. It was also said that Christine is in the midst of paying off the £300,000 split.

However, Paddy is now focusing on work as he tries to top up his bank balance. The Top Gear presenter is expected to go on a comedy tour for his latest project.

A source told The Sun: “It’s no secret that Paddy’s comedy tour, over the past year, has been a huge success. “It was expected to do well but it was a long tour that went extremely well sales wise night after night… every venue was rocking.

“Most venues had waiting lists of people who wanted to come but couldn’t get in which is very rare in the industry at the moment. Obviously the tour promoter did very well out of it so everyone their side is very keen for Paddy to replicate that again perhaps as soon as possible. There aren’t many comedy acts that can sell venues as fast as that so when a hit comes along the industry is keen to pounce on it and get more shows booked in.

“Importantly, Paddy also had a blast writing and performing the show although whatever tour comes in the future, as with the last one, it needs to work around his schedule with his kids which is why he drove straight home after a lot of the gigs. Everyone is hoping he’ll sign up again and rival tour promoters are banging down his door to try and get involved.”

Christine and Paddy share three children together – Leo and Penelope and daughter Felicity. The family live in their seven-bedroom house in Cheshire which features a gym and swimming pool.

It was reported that Christine has been reluctant to move house as she wants stability for her children, all of who have been diagnosed with autism. Christine has been open in recent years about her children’s diagnosis with autism, as well as her own.

She was diagnosed in 2021 alongside her three children, and has since become an advocate for neurodiversity. She has shared how her diagnosis has changed her life and how it has helped her understand herself and her children better.

The Mirror have contacted Paddy and Christine’s reps for comment.

P Diddy trial LIVE: Cassie Ventura to be quizzed again as cross-examination continues

Cassie Ventura is set to be quizzed by defence lawyers again as Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ trial continues. The disgraced rapper, 55, has been in court all week as he faces a number of charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution.

He was arrested in September and strongly denies all allegations made against him. Combs has been in prison since his arrest, with a number of bail requests rejected.

His former partner of 10 years, Cassie Ventura has been on the stand most of the week. Defence lawyers started their cross-examination of Cassie on Thursday and will continue on Friday.

Judge Arun Subramanian became frustrated at Combs’ legal team over the time they are taking to question Cassie, who is eight-months pregnant.

He insisted the defence should be given no more than a day and a half—the same amount of time the prosecution had. On Thursday, Cassie broke down in tears toward the end of her testimony.

Here, we are bringing you the live updates from the courtroom as the trial continues…

Combs has appeared relaxed

During Thursday’s session, Combs appeared uber relaxed as his unearthed text messages with Cassie were read out to the jury.

Cassie feared Diddy’s ‘jealousy’ over fling

Cassie told the court about her past relationships yesterday as defense attorney Anna Estevao turns the conversation to Combs’ own jealousy.

She agreed that Combs could be more jealous than her and would lose his temper when he suspected she was seeing other men.

The court heard Cassie and Scott Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi, briefly dated during a rough patch in her on-and-off relationship with Combs, which spanned from 2007 to 2018.

She said Combs learned of her romantic involvement with Mescudi in December 2011 when she said the relationship with Combs was strained and they were “on a break.”

She also revealed she had a “burner phone” to communicate with Kid Cudi. “I did not want him to find out,” Ventura told the court. “I thought it would be way too dangerous if he found out.”

“Because he would be insanely jealous?” Estevao asksed “Yes,” Cassie replied.

Britney Spears dragged into case

Pop star Britney Spears was mentioned in court yesterday. The jury were shown text messages between Combs and Cassie over the years.

These included messages about Freak Offs and threats allegedly made by Combs. Cassie testified that Diddy brought pop star Britney to her 21st birthday party in Las Vegas.

He also allegedly invited singer-songwriter Dallas Austin to the celebration. At the time, Cassie was already signed to Diddy’s record label, and she told the jury that their relationship had been strictly professional—until that night.

During the party, she said, Diddy kissed her, leaving her confused.

Cassie accused of being ‘insanely jealous’

On Thursday, Combs’ legal team spoke of his children.

Defense attorney Anna Estevao said Cassie was “upset” that she didn’t get to build a relationship with them. Cassie told the court: “It could be [heartbreaking],” when asked how it felt to see Combs with Kim Porter and their children.

She confirmed she wanted to be part of his family—not just, as Estevao put it, his “sexual fantasy.”

The defense brought up another woman Cassie previously said she discovered through social media, asking whether that woman was “the main problem” in her relationship with Combs. “Yes,” Ventura responded.

“You were concerned you were a side piece, that you were not the main girlfriend,” Estevao said. “You were insanely jealous.”

Diddy’s overdose

Cassie told the court that Combs noticed the negative effects her drug use was having on her and encouraged her to see a doctor. She also said there were moments when he expressed concern for her mental health.

In a striking revelation, she confirms that Combs himself suffered an overdose on opiate painkillers while at the Playboy Mansion in 2012.

Diddy’s whisper caught on mic

Combs’ comment to his lawyer was caught on a hot mic in court during his trial yesterday.

He told Anna Estevao he was “proud” of her work, a remark he appeared to understand would go unnoticed in the courtroom in New York City.

Cassie may return next week

Subramanian pointed out that both parties had previously agreed Cassie’s testimony would conclude by the end of the week, noting that she is currently pregnant and expecting her third child soon.

In response to the shifting schedule, the judge remarked: “That is the exact opposite of what I was told.”

What is happening today?

Cassie Ventura will take to the stand again as Combs’ defence team continue their cross-examination. They were warned by the judge to not take more than a day and a half—the same amount of time the prosecution had.

“In what universe did you not understand this is what was going to happen?” Judge Arun Subramanian asked. “You’re not telling me this was everyone’s understanding, that this witness was going to be done this week?”
