Saoirse Ronan, 31, is widely considered one of the best actresses of her generation after first breaking out on the big screen as a child performer in iconic films like Atonement and The Lovely Bones.

Following her first Academy Award nomination aged just 13 for Atonement, she has since received three more Oscar nods for Brooklyn, Lady Bird and Little Women.

However, despite being in some of the most high-profile films of the past decade, Ronan is known for keeping her personal life under wraps and rarely uses social media.

Even so, she is known for her relationship with an equally well-known actor who currently stars in one of the most popular streaming shows of the 2020s.

Who is Saoirse Ronan’s husband Jack Lowden?

Jack Lowden, 35, is a Scottish actor who is best known for portraying MI5 agent River Cartwright in the Apple TV+ drama Slow Horses.

He has been in a relationship with Ronan since 2018 after starring together in the historical drama film Mary Queen of Scots, which also featured Barbie star Margot Robbie.

Lowden has also starred in the BBC drama series The Gold, portrayed war poet Siegfried Sassoon in Benediction and recently appeared in the action film Tornado.

The Slow Horses star is next set to portray Mr Darcy in the Dolly Alderton-penned adaptation of Pride and Prejudice for Netflix, opposite Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet.

In July 2024, The Irish Independent reported that Ronan and Lowden had tied the knot in Edinburgh.

Reports emerged in May 2025 that Ronan and Lowden were expecting their first child together after the actress was spotted with a baby bump in London.

The actors did not comment to confirm the news at the time, but Ronan later stepped out at Paris Fashion Week with her bump on full display in a loose emerald-black gown.

Since then, the couple are now believed to have quietly welcomed their first child recently after photos of the pair pushing a buggy were obtained by the Sun.

The Daily Mail has reported that production on Pride and Prejudice has slowed following Lowden becoming a father for the first time.

“But the show must go on, and that means the producers have had to keep on filming and that has meant they have had to have some stand-ins for Mr Darcy.

“So it has been a case of lookalikes for Jack so that there is no disruption.”

At this time the name and sex of Ronan and Lowden’s first child has not been made public.

What is Saoirse Ronan’s new film Bad Apples about?

Ronan’s film career is showing no signs of slowing down amidst her exciting baby news.

Her next feature, Bad Apples, recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), though a wide release date has not been confirmed just yet.

Based on the book De Oönskade by Danish author Rasmus Andersson, The Little Women star portrays a British teacher named Maria who goes to desperate lengths during a feud with one of her students.

An official synopsis for the film reads: “Maria is a teacher finding her class of ten year-olds disrupted by one unruly pupil.”

Little else is known about the film at the moment as there is currently no trailer, however it has received strong reviews out of TIFF.

IndieWire called it a “deliciously dark comedy about the pressures of a broken school system” in their rave review.

And The Wrap says: “[Director Jonatan] Etzler wields the film’s urgent satire like a scalpel, precisely cutting away at all the lies we so easily find ourselves telling that mask the darker truths about who we are.”

The Princess of Wales has stepped out for a series of engagements, with royal watchers catching a glimpse of her performing an apparent magic trick with her hair that has left fans amazed.

Kate took a tour of the Sudbury Silk Mills in Suffolk before later stopping by at Marina Mill in Cuxton, Kent. She put Britain’s textile industry in the spotlight with the visit to the mill in Suffolk, a family-run weaving firm that has been creating jacquard fabrics for more than 300 years.

From there, the princess continued her tour with a trip to Marina Mill in Cuxton, Kent, where she donned an apron to get involved in the fabric making process.

Kate was shown how the fabric is dried and then transferred, before she got her hands dirty to print her own fabric.

After covering her outfit with an apron, Kate pulled her long tresses back and tied up her hair, without using a hair bobble or clip. It seems the princess pulled her hair into a bun before wrapping it around itself, effortlessly securing it firmly in place with no hair tie in sight.

The video of Kate’s hair trick quickly went viral on social media, as one royal watcher shared the clip of the moment on X with the caption: “Just the Princess of Wales effortlessly putting her hair into a bun with no hair ties or clips at all today.” The post welcomed a flood of comments, with one person writing: “I would never do this properly and so perfectly.”

Another wrote: “My bun would have fallen out 0.2 seconds later,” while someone else added: “Looks like this is something she does all the time. And it doesn’t look messy.”

One other fan wrote: “She’s done that a few times!” while another requested: “Someone needs to do a slow-mo tutorial featuring her so I can learn it. Mine just keeps falling! She’s a pro.”

In the days before her trip to the textile factories, Kensington Palace said the princess’s visit would “celebrate the unique skill, creativity and craftsmanship of British textile manufacturers” and the “joy found in working in the creative industries”.

It said Kate has “long been passionate about the importance of the British textiles industry and its role as part of the UK’s cultural and creative voice”. Kate’s paternal ancestors were the owners of the woollen manufacturer and merchant William Lupton & Co, which was based in Leeds.

The outings for Kate come as she is expected to play a huge role when US President Donald Trump comes to the UK next week for his unprecedented second state visit.

William and Kate have been tasked with the initial royal meeting of Mr and Mrs Trump on the morning of September 17 in the grounds of the Windsor estate, when they will accompany them to meet the King and Queen for an open-air greeting.

Kate will also carry out a joint engagement with the First Lady the next day in Windsor, alongside Queen Camilla.

Two Love Islanders seemed to be getting closer at the National Television Awards last night, as Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu was reportedly spotting being flirty with another show legend

Two Love Islanders were overheard planning a secret date at this year’s National Television Awards. The pair appeared to be flirting heavily while they hung out at an after party.

Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Joe Garratt were never on the show together but were spotted laughing together in the VIP section at a party after the NTAs. Onlookers thought they sense some chemistry between the two and overheard Joe asking Ekin-Su on a date.

An inside said: “Ekin-Su and Joe have real chemistry together, it was obvious just looking over at them. They didn’t stop laughing and joking around after bumping into each other at the afterparty.

Speaking to The Sun, they continued to claim: “Joe was heard testing the waters about a date with Ekin – saying he’d always hoped they could hang out more.”

The National Television Awards’ red carpet host Sam Thompson reunited with former Love Island star Samie Elishi whilst at the awards ceremony in London last night

Exes Sam Thompson and Samie Elishi reunited at the National Television Awards last night. The two reality TV stars are said to have enjoyed a “cosy chat” in a smoking area outside the O2 Arena whilst at the awards ceremony.

They were among the guests at the event in London, which was televised on ITV. Sam, 33, provided red carpet coverage alongside pal Pete Wicks, whilst Samie, 25, was one of the former Love Island stars in attendance, with the show nominated for the Reality Competition award.

Sam and Samie, who are said to have split up over the summer, reunited at the special occasion yesterday. The exes were seen together in an outdoor area during the evening after having previously reunited at a party in July.

Photos published by the Daily Mail show former Made in Chelsea cast member Sam and former islander Samie stood by each other outside the venue in London. They appeared to be in good spirts whilst joined by someone else.

The outlet reports that the pair, who are said to have remained amicable after parting ways, “snuck out” of the event for a cigarette. It adds that they chatted in the smoking area before leaving, having seemingly opted not to attend the official afterparty for this year’s NTAs.

It’s been described as the “second cosy interaction” between Sam and Samie “in a matter of weeks”. They are said to have previously reunited at a launch event organised by haircare brand REHAB, which was hosted in July.

A source had told the Daily Mail that the exes were “chatting away” whilst queuing for drinks at the event, which was also attended by Sam’s former co-star Lucy Watson. They added that the pair kept finding their way back to each other.

The source said: “He gently stroked her arm to make sure she had a drink and the pair were laughing away with [his former co-star] Lucy Watson and her partner. […] Sam and Samie chatted away to other guests but kept making their way back to one another before eventually leaving at the same time.”

It comes following reports in June that Sam and Samie had split up after two months together. Their apparent romance came following the end of his relationship with Zara McDermott, who rose to fame on Love Island like Samie, last year.

A source confirmed the end of Sam and Samie’s romance to the Mirror three months ago. They added that things “just didn’t work out” between them, with the source having said: “They both have busy lives, it just didn’t work out.”

Former Married At First Sight Australia groom Lachlan Rofe has died at the age of 47. The news has prompted tributes to the reality TV star on social media this week and fans have expressed condolences to his loved ones.

Lachlan is best known for having appear on the first series of MAFS Australia, which aired in 2015, and later ended up splitting from bride Clare Tamas. Also known as Lachlan McAleer, he then appeared on the Farmer Wants a Wife.

It’s now been reported that Lachlan has died.

The news of his death has prompted condolences and tributes to on social media. One person wrote on Facebook earlier: “Very sad news. Sending love & hugs to the family.” Sharing their thoughts, another said: “This is so sad.”

Someone else commented on the platform: “Rest in peace, Lachlan.” A fourth wrote in response to the news: “Geez I remember him. How very sad. So young.” One person said: “Such sad news. Condolences to his family and friends.”

Lachlan was a groom on the first series of MAFS Australia, which was launched on the Nine Network in 2015. He was matched with bride Clare for the experiment and the couple ended up making it to the final decision together.

It was however later announced that they had separated. Lachlan confirmed that they had parted ways 12 months after filming had finished but he said at the time that they were “still friends”.

A year after appearing on MAFS Australia, he took part in the ninth series of the Farmer Wants a Wife, which aired on the same network in the country in 2016. The show, based on the UK series of the same name, saw farmers looking for a wife.
