Pulp album missed out on Mercury prize by ‘one vote’ and fans are still fuming

Pulp was tragically denied the Mercury Prize for Album of the Year, but Pulp returned to the awards show just two years later and won the prize.

For a tragic reason, Pulp, a cherished British band, lost out on winning the Mercury Prize. The Jarvis Cocker-fronted band would eventually take home the award, but their first accolade-grabbing performance was taken from them in a neck-and-neck race to take the first place.

Before breaking into the Top 40 singles chart for the first time in 1994, Pulp were founded in 1978. They spent more than a decade working, performing, and recording. Although the song marked the group’s first major award nod, it would not be their first attempt at chart success. His ‘n ‘ Hers, which was released on this day in 1994, would be the band’s first Mercury Prize nomination.

The band would go on to write some of the 90s’ most influential pieces, including “Common People,” “This is Hardcore,” and “Disco 2000,” even though they didn’t win the Mercury Prize.

Fans have since forgotten Pulp’s nomination for album of the year, which was almost too close to call.

Elegant Slumming, M People’s album, received the award, but Pulp’s nomination marked a significant turning point for the band. His ‘n ‘Hers, Pulp’s 1994 album, lost out on the Mercury Prize by “one measly vote,” according to host Mark Radcliffe when he performed on The White Room, a British rock show.

A Reddit post celebrating the album’s anniversary suggested the album and band were stronger than their contemporaries, with Pulp’s opening show supporting Oasis tipped as far stronger than the Gallagher brothers’ show.

One user praised the album as “I adore it and was fortunate to see them supporting Oasis in Sheffield in 1995.” I sincerely believed they were superior to Oasis. A can of beer was thrown off the stage by Jarvis, and it fell over a security guard. Classic”!

Another thread suggested Pulp were deserving of the award for the year, but they faced stiff competition from The Prodigy and Blur’s “Parklife” album and their Music for the Jilted Generation.

However, Pulp won the Album of the Year award just two years later for their “Different Class” album, which would have won them the Mercury Prize.

The band also won the Ivor Novello Awards for “Common People” in the same year as the band for “Common People” in the same year for Best Live Act and Best Musically and Lyrically.

Some users suggested that “His’ n’ Hers” was a better album than the Mercury Prize-winning album that followed in a third Reddit thread celebrating the album’s 30th anniversary last year.

One person said, “I prefer Different Class over this album. A classic Britpop song, Babys.

Katy Perry regrets ‘making a public spectacle’ of her Blue Origin space flight

The six-person crew, which included pop megastar Katy Perry, had some unpopular opinions of the space flight’s massive price tag and bizarre and dramatic antics.

Katy Perry regrets “making a public spectacle” of going to space, it is reported.

The pop megastar, 40, was one of six women to fly in the Blue Origin NS-31 from Texas on Monday in a mission funded by Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezo’s space exploration company. The 11-minute journey has been criticised for its questionable environmental impact, and for the bizarre and dramatic antics of the crew, including Perry.

When Perry, who debuted in the pop charts with I Kissed a Girl in 2008, exited the Blue Origin capsule, she immediately stopped and raised a daisy in the air before eventually stomping to her knees and kissing the ground.

Now it is thought the mum of one, born in California, is experiencing second thoughts about partaking in the mission. A source said: “Katy doesn’t regret going to space. It was life changing. What she does regret is making a public spectacle out of it.”

The comments contrast with Perry’s remarks given to a reporter moments after she emerged from the capsule. The Firework hitmaker said: “It’s about a collective energy in there. It’s about us. It’s about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging. It’s about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it. This is all for the benefit of Earth.”

Yet the singer has faced a strong backlash. Our Environment Editor, Nada Farhoud, argued the mission helped Mr Bezos’s vanity project. Others condemned the stunt for its timing – because NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have only just returned to Earth after being stranded in space for more than nine months.

And the source told Mail Online Perry now regrets “kissing the ground” after the flight as well as her “close-up camera moments” inside the capsule – where she held a daisy up to the camera, promoted the setlist to her upcoming tour, and sang the lyrics to What a Wonderful World all while suspended in microgravity.

Perry, who has been nominated for 13 Grammy Awards since 2009, planned to bring the daisy to space as a “beautiful tribute” to her four-year-old daughter Daisy Dove Bloom, whom she shares with fiancé Orlando Bloom.

Singer-songwriter Anastacia left fans stunned this week after she revealed she was in a girl group with a famous reality star before her solo career took off.

In the year 2000 you couldn’t turn on the radio without being greeted by Anastacia’s soulful vocals in her hit song I’m Outta Love. Just two years later Anastacia was achieving worldwide fame with her hits Paid My Dues and One Day In Your Life – but her career came to a sudden halt when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The star took two years off for gruelling radiotherapy, and when she had recovered she returned with a pop-rock album led by single Left Outside Alone, which was a major success. But long before Anastacia was known for her solo talent she was part of a girl band with Michelle Visage.

Speaking to Vernon Kay on his Tracks Of My Years show on Radio 2 on Wednesday, the 56-year-old hitmaker spilled the beans on her musical past with Michelle. She explained: “Michelle Visage and I were in a girl group that was put together… Spotting Vernon’s shocked expression, she exclaimed: ‘I know! I love that I’m giving all of you this content.”

She continued, “Michelle and I have known one another forever!” I also performed background dances for Coro and a Latin group called Tony Moran [The Latin Rascals]. And all of them were freestyle.

Going on to explain their similarities, Anastacia said: ‘We are three days apart of birthdays and we are the same year. We are separated at birth! In a weird way, we are, but her and I talk all the time. I’m like “you’re finishing my sentence, shut up!”. She’s like “you shut up!”‘ Yeah it’s really interesting.”

Michelle Visage is an American radio DJ, Singer, Actress and Media Personality, who took part in Series 17 of Strictly Come Dancing. While Michelle is best known among fans as a reality show judge, she started off her career in a girl group called Seduction with Idalis DeLeón, and April Harris before then going on to sing lead vocals for R&B group The S.O.U.L. S.Y.S.T.E.M.

Though she didn’t reveal the name of the group or when they were formed, Michelle responded to a fan in the comments, writing: “We were going to be called BAZAAR”, suggesting that the group didn’t make it very far, reports MailOnline.

Taking to the comments on the video shared to Instagram, fans expressed their love for the ladies, noting their similarities while also calling for a collaboration. They penned: ‘I always thought they have similar vibes’, ‘I love both of them!!! She’s the blonde Michelle visage twin sister! They have the same attitude, their speaking voices are similar too!’

Chris Hughes sparks CBB outrage as fans demand exit over ‘disgusting’ act

When Chris Hughes appeared in the X-rated act, Celebrity Big Brother fans were aghast.

Celebrity Big Brother viewers have been left repulsed after a move from Chris Hughes. The reality star left host AJ Odudu and viewers completely gobsmacked after he decided to wee in a cat litter tray while dressed as a cat. Appearing on spin-off show Late and Live, AJ shared the clip as she was heard saying: “Disgusting!”

In the video, celebs could be seen dressed up in cat costumes as part of an upcoming challenge. It started off cute, but things took a quick turn when Chris Hughes asked JoJo Siwa to block the door to the changing room for him. He warned her: “I need a wee.”

The former Love Island star went on to ask his best friend, “Can you block the door?” He then pleaded: “Don’t tell anyone I’ve weed though.”

He did appear to have let a stream of liquid splash into the trash can up until this point, though it was unclear whether or not he was making the joke. Late and Live viewers could be heard groaning profaneously at the audience.

The audience then screamed as Chris proceeded to wipe the evidence away from the litter tray, presumably while also touching his own urine.

Horrified viewers took to social media to express their opinions on the contentious incident, with one user saying, “Chris needs to get a backdoor eviction for that blatant nonsense.” He even washed his hands afterward.

Another firmly stated: “Chris’ only excuse is that he was drunk. That’s not sober behaviour.” A third asked: “Didn’t Chris grow up on a farm or something?! I swear I remember that from when he was in Love Island.” While a third fumed: “Ewww he is disgusting.” “I feel so nauseated. They’re so so weird,” said another.

The stars are ecstatic over Big Brother’s recent release of a sizable announcement. Other people’s upsets were also depicted in Ella Rae Wise, who was shown showing her sobbing and receiving comfort from her housemates.

Many of them were shocked, and some of it was unexpected. There were a lot of tears when the stars announced who had been chosen for the following live eviction.

Daley Thompson, a retired athlete, and Patsy Palmer, a member of EastEnders, were confirmed as the next two stars to be cast in a public vote, according to Big Brother. On Friday night, viewers will cast their ballots to decide who they want to keep in, with one of them being eliminated.

Big Brother shocked the housemates by revealing that only two people had the chop this time when he named the nominated housemates. The stars were gasping as a result, some revealing that they didn’t anticipate just two names to appear.

Daley admitted he was okay with it, but he appeared unimpressed in the midst of the shock of the uproar. Patsy and Pat made up their minds, but Pat soon shed tears.
