Inside ‘high priestess’ Charlotte Church’s witchcraft retreat where she chants and performs rituals

Celebrity Traitors star Charlotte Church has found a new passion in life practicing witchcraft and offers a course at her retreat to help others ‘heal the witch wound’ and connect to magic

She is currently on TV screens starring in Celebrity Traitors with 18 other celebrities, including Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross and Paloma Faith, but off screen Charlotte Church has turned to a very different pursuit.

The Voice of an Angel singing sensation set up a wellness centre in Wales a couple of years ago at a beautiful country house where she guides guests through immersive experiences such as breathwork, forest bathing and creative expression.

She has been working as a sound healer at the retreat for some time but has just branched out into a whole new area – witchcraft.

The Dreaming’s website offers a variety of experiences for guests to enrol in, with the newest being Witch. The “enchanting” five-day retreat is for “17 souls ready to embody their magic through ritual, nature and deep witchcraft practices”.

Charlotte, 39, is one of two high priestesses who lead the course which is described as an “immersive retreat designed to activate the witch within: blending ancient wisdom, elemental magic, and deep self-exploration.”

The website goes on to explain how it works: “Led by singer and spiritual guide Charlotte Church and High Priestess and author Tree Carr, this retreat is an opportunity to rekindle your craft through ritual, herbalism, dream-work, plant-spirit connection, meditation, sound and sacred art.

“We’ll awaken our witch’s voice through sound rituals woven with the rhythms of nature. Chanting at dawn, humming at dusk, invoking breath and tone, we align our magic with the sun, the land and the unseen. These are not songs to perform but spells to cast, prayers to plant and vibrations to stir the wild world awake,” it reads.

In an accompanying video Charlotte is seen staring in wonder up through the trees while walking barefoot through mud in the forest. “I need you to remember, listen closely, listen deep,” she whispers mystically. “Do you hear the whisperings of your blood?”

As a haunting tune is sung in the background, presumably by Charlotte, she sings, “the ancient understanding in your bones” and asks, “do you remember beloved? Can you feel her? The priestess is rising.” At the end of the video she can be seen dancing in a circle with others who are wearing headdresses, flowing tunics and face paint while they play instruments.

Charlotte has completely embraced her new life working at The Dreaming where she also works as a sound healer “I’m doing stuff at The Dreaming, which is really about pulling out the strands of how sound can be used for healing, how voice can be used for healing. I wanna sort of try and meld this idea of music and healing, and voice and healing, with that joy and ecstasy.”

She has previously discussed how taking magic mushrooms helped her get in tune with nature. She revealed she first took the hallucinogenic drug which can be eaten or made into a tea, in her 20s. “When I was about 27, I took magic mushrooms for the first time,” she told The Skylark. “That experience created a different sort of connection, a deeper understanding, far more intrinsic and connected to patterns. You can never unsee or unfeel that connection once it happens. Ever since then I’ve been diving deeper and deeper into my spiritual journey – the idea of the unseen world, the wonder, awe, and power of nature.”

Recently she spoke to Martha Kearney on her BBC Radio 4 podcast about the drug. “My relationship with nature started to blossom partly when I had kids and then partly when I first took magic mushrooms for the first time,” she said. “When I took magic mushrooms, everything, everything in nature just opened up and began communicating. When you see that you can’t unsee it.”

When Charlotte acquired The Dreaming she spoke about wanting to have a change of path and how she knew she wanted to buy the property as soon as she saw it. “I didn’t want to have to make a living from showbusiness any longer,” she explained. “I wanted to make art and music, but not be reliant on celebrity; to live more in line with my values.”

Charlotte and second husband Jonathan Powell bought Rhydoldog, the former idyllic home of designer Laura Ashley, back in 2021 and opened it as wellness centre, The Dreaming, in 2023. It is set in 47 acres of ancient woodland, which is described as, “a haven nestled in magical lands of Wales” which is, “the perfect setting for witches to reconnect with the old ways”.

A four-night stay costs £3,000 in what is called luxury accommodation. Home cooked food and drinks are included in the price as is access to the home, gardens, land and plunge pools. According to the centre’s Instagram the first retreat in June this year sold out so more dates were added. The next Witch retreat runs in early December, with two more scheduled for 2026.

Despite this, The Dreaming is reported to be struggling to make a profit. After making a whopping £25million from her singing career, last year Charlotte admitted she is no longer a millionaire. She was said to have been forced to sell her home and downsize to a semi-detached house.

She and her family lived in a huge mansion, The Spinney, in Dinas Powys, Wales. She is believed to have paid £1.3million for it in 2010 and made almost a million profit when it sold for £2million. Charlotte had previously told Closer about the school she ran from the “beautiful” property. “We had a school there for a bit and a studio,” she said. “When it is used by the community, it makes sense, but when it is not used, it doesn’t.”

Loose Women’s Kaye Adams shares health scare after ‘horrible’ Pilates experience

Loose Women broadcaster Kaye Adams has opened up about her heath fears after an experience with a Pilates class left her ‘really scared’

Loose Women star Kaye Adams has opened up about her recent health scare after attending a Pilates class that left her “really scared” she was having a stroke.

Kaye, 62, explained that at a reformer Pilates class she went to over the weekend, she was hit by a wave of dizziness and lost her balance.

Opening up about the experience on the How to be 60 podcast, she shared that the “horrible” physical feelings made her fear the worst was happening.

“Do you know what I’ve had recently, it’s the funniest thing,” she started. “I went to my Pilates last Sunday, the reformer Pilates, I call it disco Pilates, because it’s all bright lights and music.

“I got off the reformer and my goodness the world began to spin. Like a Tom and Jerry cartoon when there’s birds going around the head. I thought, ‘Oh my God I’m having a stroke’.”

She added: “I was really scared actually, it was horrible. I just couldn’t get my balance.” Kaye continued to admit that what was actually happening was “really weird”.

“I’ve checked it out and apparently it’s vertigo,” she shared. “Apparently it’s crystals in your ear that get dislodged and you can be prone to it. It’s a really weird thing.”

According to the NHS, vertigo is a feeling that you or your environment are moving, when you’re not. It can cause a loss of balance and dizziness, as Kaye described, as well as nausea.

Vertigo is thought to be a symptom of something bigger rather than a condition itself. The most common causes are inner ear problems, which can be helped with gentle movement and medications.

Kaye confessed that her vertigo attack was ironic as she’d previously been skeptical of a friend who suffered from it last year. “Funnily a friend of mine had told me last year that she had it and I remember at the time thinking that’s a load of nonsense! And then when it happened I was like ‘Oh I’m going to call her, because she knows how I feel’.”

This is the second health scare Kaye has suffered from in recent years. In January 2024, she was terrified she had a tumour after a “traumatic” incident resulted in hearing loss.

Taking to Instagram, she explained that she couldn’t hear anything in her right ear when getting ready for an episode of Loose Women. “I thought, “Oh my god, what has gone wrong?'” she said after rushing herself to A&E.

Kaye praised the nurses at the hospital for calming her down as she started to panic. They sent her for an audiogram which confirmed that the hearing loss was harmless, after which she said she was “embarrassed” by the situation.

“I am embarrassed to say this because, honestly, my head was going to some terrible terrible tumour, I am very melodramatic. But [the audiologist] pulled out the biggest bit of wax you have ever seen.”

If untreated, a build up of ear wax can lead to temporary hearing loss, tinnitus, earaches and dizziness. It can also put you at a greater risk of infection. The NHS advises putting two or three drops of “medical grade olive or almond oil” in the affected ear three to four times a day for up to five days to treat it yourself.

Charli XCX confirms Kylie Jenner and A-listers for new drama film The Moment

Charlie XCX’s upcoming drama film, The Moment, will feature a number of huge A-list names, including billionaire Kylie Jenner

Charli XCX has confirmed the huge new cast for her new drama film, The Moment. The A24-backed film is based on an original idea by the brat singer, who also stars in the upcoming movie about a rising pop star navigating the difficulties of fame and the intense music industry.

She will be producing the film, which will be released next year, under her Studio365 label alongside David Hinojosa. Some of the A-list cast members include Kylie Jenner, Rachel Sennott, Aidan Zamiri, and Alexander Skarsgard. Others joining the cast are Rosanna Arquette, Jamie Demetriou, Arielle Dombasle, Hailey Benton Gates, and Trew Mullen.

Mel Ottenberg, Richard Perez, Isaac Powell, Rish Shah, Tish Weinstock, Michael Workéyè, Shygirl, A. G. Cook and Kate Berlant will also be featured.

A teaser for the film, uploaded onto her Instagram page, showed the names of the stars featuring in the movie flashing across the screen in blinding lights.

Fans, friends and brands were over the moon with the announcement, with Grinder’s page writing: “She’s an icon, she’s a legend, and she IS the moment,” while one fan commented: “Counting down the seconds!!!”

“Amazing!!! I can’t wait to see it,” one said and another person posted: “Seizuring but slay.”

It comes as fans were convinced the Brat singer could be plotting revenge against Taylor Swift, who appears to reference a feud in her new album.

Reception to Taylor’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl, has been mixed. And there’s been plenty of conversation about who the Eras Tour super-star could be referring to in her track, Actually Romantic.

Actually Romantic features the lyrics: “I heard you call me Boring Barbie when the coke’s got you brave / High-fived my ex and then said you’re glad he ghosted me.

“Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face / Some people might be offended / But it’s actually sweet.”

Meanwhile, fans are convinced the shade was thrown at Charli, with some pointing out that the 365 singer is back in the studio again.

It lead some to speculate whether or not she will be releasing a diss track in response to Actually Romantic. A picture of Charli in the studio has garnered more than 18.7million views on X – and people are very excited at the prospect of new music.

Charlotte Church’s new life as Traitors star embarks on high priestess and healer career

As Charlotte Church takes part in the first ever celebrity version of the hit BBC show The Traitors, we take a look at the singer/songwriter’s new life after blowing her fortune, her downsized home and teaching witchcraft in the woods

She first shot to fame in 1997 at the tender age of 11 for having the ‘voice of an angel’ after singing a version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Pie Jesu over the phone on This Morning.

Charlotte Church then went on to have an album of the same name and a hugely successful career in classical singing before crossing over into pop. The vocal talent also enjoyed a stint working in TV presenting before taking a step back from the spotlight to focus on her children when she became a mother.

These days she spends her days immersed in nature at her spiritual retreat where she relishes her role as a sound healer and leads a witchcraft course. She still dips her toe into the world of showbiz though and makes occasional appearances.

Even though she admits she doesn’t watch much telly these days, Charlotte Church confessed The Traitors is one that does grab her attention. Good job really as she’s starring in the latest series of the BBC reality show – its first celebrity version.

Despite signing up to The Traitors, public appearances from the 39-year-old are relatively rare these days. Having found fame almost 30 years ago at such a tender age, it was probably inevitable she would tire of life in the spotlight earlier than most stars.

She amassed a huge fortune of £25million by the time she was 17 and had sold more than 10million records worldwide. However the singing sensation blew a large amount of her fortune, and by 2010 was said to be down to £11million. In 2014, she spoke to Stylist magazine about her cash flow and lavish spending habits. “I haven’t got a lot of money. I’ve got enough to be comfortable if I was reasonable for the rest of my life, but I’m not reasonable,” she confessed. “So I will have to find a way to sustain my lifestyle.”

These days Charlotte admits she’s no longer a millionaire but has very different life goals. In March this year when she was discussing her Welsh based retreat she said she knew she wanted to buy it as soon as she laid eyes on it. “I also didn’t want to have to make a living from showbusiness any longer,” she explained. “I wanted to make art and music, but not be reliant on celebrity; to live more in line with my values.”

She and second husband Jonathan Powell bought Rhydoldog, the former idyllic home of designer Laura Ashley, back in 2021 and opened it as wellness centre, The Dreaming, in 2023. Set on 47 acres of ancient woodland, Charlotte guides guests through immersive experiences such as breathwork, forest bathing, creative expression, and more.

Explaining her role at the retreat, she said: “I’m a sound healer now, so I’m doing stuff at The Dreaming, which is really about pulling out the strands of how sound can be used for healing, how voice can be used for healing. I wanna sort of try and meld this idea of music and healing, and voice and healing, with that joy and ecstasy.” She has even appeared on ITV’s This Morning to promote the practice and ‘heal’ hosts Dermott O’Leary and Alison Hammond – although the latter couldn’t control her giggles during the session.

The Classical Brit Award winner is also a high priestess on a five day Witch experience at the centre which is “designed to activate the witch within”, according to the website. “This retreat is for seekers ready to embrace their inner Witch, heal the witch wound, deepen their connection to magic, and immerse themselves in ritual & sacred practice,” the course description continues.

Despite one of these retreats setting a couple back up to £3,000, the centre is reported to be struggling to make a profit. Last year Charlotte was said to have been forced to sell her home and downsize to a semi-detached house.

She and her family lived in a huge mansion, The Spinney, in Dinas Powys, Wales. She is rumoured to have paid £1.3million for it in 2010 and made almost a million when it sold for £2million. Charlotte had previously told Closer about the school she ran from the “beautiful” property. “We had a school there for a bit and a studio,” she said. “When it is used by the community, it makes sense, but when it is not used, it doesn’t.”

More recently she spoke about her life at home with her family. She has two children, Ruby 18 and Dexter 16, with ex fiance and rugby star Gavin Henson. She and musician husband Jonathan, who she married in 2017, also share five year old daughter Frida Simone.

Although it sometimes makes for a hectic environment, she told House Beautiful her home is where she goes to escape. “Sometimes stressful and incredibly busy,” she said, explaining the atmosphere in the house. “I’ve got three kids, two dogs and a husband – and a place of refuge. My house is full of books, music, instruments, art and conversations in the kitchen.”

Revealing that the first thing she does when she gets home is “clean” thanks to the mess her family makes, she said she was at her happiest when they were all, “outside together gardening”. Describing the garden as her favourite room in her house where she often just sits to watch the weather, she continued: “I’m green-fingered, but growing up, I had no concept of nature. It was just in the background. Through having kids and growing a human being inside my body, nature is the centre of my life.”

Her perfect Sunday these days would be “out and about” in a forest, at a riverside or the beach. She also loves spending time at The Dreaming where she can rest and reflect. It’s where the family holds big get-togethers and dinner parties too. “We always do it at The Dreaming,” she said. “My husband does all the cooking and it’s always sharing food, so people can choose the amounts they want.”

The retreat offers hearty, vegetarian home cooked meals for guests and Charlotte has also had something of an epiphany when it comes to her diet in recent years. Admitting she used to be a junk food fanatic, she revealed she now only eats whole foods.

“I’ve just read a book, Ultra-Processed People by Chris van Tulleken, which has completely changed my eating habits, which will therefore change my life,” she said in an interview with the Mirror in 2023. “It explains how we’re all eating all these chemicals, which disrupt the appetite pathways.

“The correlation with obesity is frightening – our bodies don’t even know what’s hungry and what’s not. My relationship with food was always a bit of a rebellion, I think in part because I was scrutinised so much as a young person and throughout my life. My weight was always part of that scrutiny, so I really kicked against it. I had a pretty well-balanced diet, but I totally ate junk food as well, had loads of sweets – I was a proper sugar fiend. I ate whatever I wanted, all of the time.”

Article continues below

Revealing that she found the shift in eating habits easy, she added: “But something in this book has clicked and it completely changed my diet overnight, cutting out anything that’s not ‘real’ food. It hasn’t even been a struggle, which I never in a million years thought would happen. I’m pleasantly surprised by the ease of this transition.”

How much do The Celebrity Traitors get paid? Stars’ huge BBC fees revealed

The famous faces taking part in the first series of The Celebrity Traitors aren’t just taking part for the fun of it – they’re getting paid a pretty penny for the BBC too

Ever wondered how much celebrities get paid to take part in reality shows? The salaries of the cast of the Celebrity Traitors have been revealed.

The show stars big names such as Stephen Fry and Alan Carr. Their salaries were revealed on The Rest is Entertainment podcast, which is hosted by Richard Osman and Marina Hyde.

According to Marina, all the celebrities on the show have been paid a flat fee of £40,000 to appear on the show. Everyone has been paid the same, regardless of their level of fame.

This means those that make it to the final will be paid the same as the first to be ‘murdered’ or banished. The prize pot will be donated to charity, so no celebrity will take home more cash than their fee.

READ MORE: Shoppers rush to buy Claudia Winkleman’s ‘stunning’ Strictly satin blouse before it sells outREAD MORE: Claudia Winkleman says ‘it feels alien’ as she attempts to fix long-term health issue

“It’s certainly interesting to compare something like Celebrity Traitors on the BBC to I’m a Celebrity on ITV,” Marina said in a podcast episode that aired before the show launched. “Although we haven’t seen the celebrity iteration yet, but we know it’s gonna be massive.

“Look at the calibre of the people they got. They were able to pay everybody a blanket £40k fee, right? I am spilling all my tea today. They’re paying them a £40k fee.”

The Thursday Murder Club author Richard compared the show to The White Lotus, which also paid their cast a flat fee – $40,000 (£29,000) – rather than an individual wage.

“It’s like White Lotus when everyone got paid the same, they got paid much less than you would normally do,” he said, before adding that “everyone is massively overpaid in the entertainment business”.

The Celebrity Traitors started on 8 October and follows the same format as the original hit series, where people are split into ‘faithfuls’ and a group who are secretly ‘traitors’. While everyone completes tasks to build up a prize pot, the faithfuls must root out the traitors, as if even one is left at the end, they will take all the money. Meanwhile, the traitors agree to ‘murder’ one faithful each night, to thin out the group.

Claudia Winkleman has also returned to host the show. The only difference between the celeb version and the main show, other than the start-studded cast, is that the prize pot will go to a charity of the winners’ choice.

This is the first season of the Celebrity Traitors and the full cast includes actors Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie, Nick Mohammad, Tameka Empson, Mark Bonnar and Ruth Codd.

It also includes comedians Alan Carr, Joe Wilkinson and Lucy Beaumont, broadcasters Kate Garraway, Clare Balding and Jonathan Ross, singers Paloma Faith, Cat Burns and Charlotte Church, as well as sports stars Tom Daley and Joe Marler, writer David Olusoga and YouTuber Niko Omilana.

The traitors were chosen in the first episode, though no one was murdered, nor was there a banishment. As such, the entire cast remain, with singer Cat, Jonathan and Alan as the Traitors. The show was filmed during the spring.
