Michael, who took over new Sunday Love Songs show on BBC Radio 2 after the death of Steve Wright last year, would often take to social media and share candid updates alongside his mum.

Taking to Facebook the singer revealed they celebrated her 90th birthday taking part on the fastest zipline in Wales.

He wrote: “We celebrated my dear mum’s 90th birthday this past weekend with a trip to Wales with the whole family. What did we get up to, I hear you ask – well we took a 90 year old on the fastest zipline in the world of course! Mx”

Originally from Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, Michael’s father is English and his mother Welsh.

His father, Tony Ball, who was later awarded an MBE for services to the industry for his role as head of global sales at British Leyland, was keen on theatre and took Michael to see shows in the school holidays. The singer also celebrated his dad’s 90th birthday last year.

Singer and West End musical theatre actor Michael took over the reins of the much-adored Love Songs show on BBC Radio 2 last year, following the heartbreaking death of Steve Wright.

Michael has been living with his partner Cathy McGowan since the 1980s, but he previously shared his personal sorrow, revealing why he would never know the happiness of fatherhood.

The singer, renowned for his roles in Les Miserables and Aspects Of Love, disclosed that a horrific accident in his teens resulted in severe injuries after a charity parachute jump went awry.

“I was going to earth at four times the speed I was meant to and got dragged along the floor,” he shared, recounting the traumatic event.

At just 18-years-old, the incident caused him a ruptured groin and internal bleeding, which resulted in numerous operations over a span of four years and concealed agony from his resulting impotence.

Michael admitted: “It was very difficult to come to terms with. I was so embarrassed by what had happened to me down below that I didn’t tell anyone for six months. All I ever thought was, ‘Will I ever be normal? ‘ I didn’t feel adequate to be with the rest of the lads running with all the girls. I didn’t have a sexual relationship for more than four years.”

Zara McDermott ‘paying the price’ with her health after making mistake

Zara McDermott, known for appearing on shows like Love Island and Strictly Come Dancing, has issued advice to fans amid saying that she’s ‘paying the price’ for a past lifestyle

Love Island star Zara McDermott has said that she is now “paying the price” for the lifestyle she once had. She’s urged fans to regularly check themselves for moles and shared that she has a form of skin cancer screening each year.

Zara, 28, has previously suggested that she feels the need to be “extra dilligent” with her skin after using sunbeds when she was younger. In an update this week, she’s said that she used them “too much” and recalled having previously not applied “nearly enough” suncream when out in the sun.

The presenter wrote about her experience on Instagram this afternoon, telling her followers that she now has an annual appointment to monitor moles on her body. Zara admitted that she had delayed the latest one though.

She said: “Been putting this appointment off for a while but wanted to post this as a reminder to everyone to get their moles checked. I used sunbeds a fair amount when I was younger as well as didn’t apply nearly enough suncream.”

The reality TV star said that she is “now paying the price”. She wrote in the post earlier that she has been noticing both moles and sunspots, particularly on her face, and encouraged others to keep an eye on any they may have.

She told her followers on the platform: “I’m now paying the price with moles appearing and sun spots especially on my face! I get a yearly check up on all my moles (it’s called Mole mapping and I get it done at a place called the Mole Clinic!! It costs a few hundred pounds but I think it’s definitely worth it for the peace of mind!!!).”

Zara added: “There’s a piece of technology they use to map all the moles and monitor them year on year. Using sunbeds, even just once, increased your risk of melanoma substantially!! I didn’t know this and definitely used them too much when I was younger. Check your body as often as possible.”

According to the Daily Mail at the time, Zara expressed similar concern over her use of sunbeds in a post that she shared in 2022. She revealed to fans towards the end of that year that she had a mole removed from her stomach.

Zara wrote at the time: “A reminder to get your moles checked!!! I just had one removed from my stomach. I was putting it off for ages because I was really nervous (I’m a total wimp with needles) but it was actually totally fine!”

She added: “I used sunbeds when I was younger and I know that now I need to be extra diligent with my skin, and use high factor suncream in the sun and every day on my face. I’ve got a few more that I need to keep an eye on too!”

A new mole or a change in the appearance of an existing one “may be signs of melanoma,” which is a type of skin cancer, according to the NHS. It adds that melanomas are “more common in areas that are often exposed to the sun”.

The NHS says: “It’s important to check your moles regularly for any changes.” It also states: “UV light from the sun can increase the chance of a mole becoming cancerous. If you have lots of moles, you need to be extra careful in the sun.”

Lorraine Kelly’s staggering weekly earnings unveiled amid brutal ITV daytime cuts

Despite ITV’s sweeping cuts to its daytime lineup and plans to halve Lorraine’s airtime from 2026, Lorraine Kelly’s production company continues to thrive financially

While ITV braces for major job losses and cuts across its daytime schedule, Lorraine Kelly remains one of its highest earners, pulling in around £13,000 a week last year.

The 65-year-old presenter’s financial success comes amid confirmation that her self-titled show will be cut to just 30 minutes a day starting in 2026, with ITV axing 220 jobs across Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning, and Loose Women.

Despite looming changes, filings from Lorraine’s company, Albatel Ltd, show her earnings remain strong. In 2024, the firm paid £135,504 in Corporation Tax, indicating income of roughly £677,520 which was up from £540,000 in 2022/23, when tax paid totaled £108,505.

Albatel Ltd is now valued at £4.2 million, with £3.3 million in cash reserves and £135,000 in investments, according to The Sun. It comes after Lorraine’s no-expense spared Channel 4 show was unveiled after the brutal ITV cuts.

It’s unclear how the format changes will impact her income, but the shift is significant. From January 2026, Good Morning Britain will be extended to 9:30am, replacing half an hour of Lorraine, which will now air only 30 weeks a year instead of year-round. On weeks when Lorraine is off-air, GMB will run until 10am.

Kevin Lygo, ITV’s managing director of media and entertainment, defended the shake-up: “Daytime is a really important part of what we do, and these scheduling and production changes will enable us to continue to deliver a schedule providing viewers with the news, debate and discussion they love from the presenters they know and trust, as well as generating savings which will allow us to reinvest across the programme budget in other genres.

“These changes also allow us to consolidate our news operations and expand our national, international and regional news output and to build upon our proud history of trusted journalism at a time when our viewers need accurate, unbiased news coverage more than ever.”

It comes as Lorraine is setting sail to Channel 4 with a big-budget travel show around Norway. The daytime host is jumping ship for a new travelogue exploring the land of the Vikings in the Scandinavian country.

Home of the Northern Lights, the 65-year-old will tour the stunning natural beauty it has to offer, across mountains, glaciers and fjords in Lorraine Kelly’s Norwegian Odyssey.

Glasgow-born Lorraine got her big break at TV-am as an on-screen reporter covering Scottish news in 1984. She’s fronted shows for ITV and STV, including Good Morning Britain, GMTV, This Morning and Daybreak before landing her own show.

Last year the channel celebrate her glittering career with special Lorraine Kelly: 40 Unforgettable Years, featuring famous colleagues and fans like Piers Morgan, Brian Cox and Craig David.

Looking back at her four-decade journey in the industry, Lorraine said: “I have never had a career plan and I still don’t. I’ve worked hard and I’ve been lucky. I love what I do and I have a wonderful production team and crew.

“As a freelance you live from one yearly contract to the next and you never know what the future holds, but I found my niche. Live morning TV suits me and I love it.”

Who is Tom Grennan’s wife Danniella Carraturo – how they met and ‘grovelling’ reconciliation

Tom Grennan has been in a relationship with Danniella Carraturo for several years, with them having met on a night out before temporarily splitting up during the Covid pandemic

BRIT Award nominee Tom Grennan has spoken about his relationship with his wife Danniella Carraturo on occasion. It’s included him having spoken about the moment that the couple met and his partner being inspiration for music.

Tom, 30, is said to have met pilates instructor Danniella one evening in 2020 and they got engaged two years later. They went on to tie the knot in a wedding ceremony held last year and he’s now announced that he’s become a parent.

The singer-songwriter has said that he knew Danniella was “the one” from the first time they met. It’s been revealed that they met in an elevator, with him speaking about the encounter on the Kyle and Jackie O Show last year.

Tom shared on the radio show that they “bonded” over a cigarette during a night out. He recalled them saying ‘hello’ to each other in the lift whilst both “heading to the smoking area”. He added: “Bonded over a ciggie and that was it.”

He said that he “misread” the situation though, with him saying: “I leant in for a kiss and she was like ‘what the hell are you doing?’ […] I was just like ‘well if you’re not gonna kiss me, you might as well put your phone number in my phone’.”

Tom, who said that he felt there was “something” about her, shared that they began a romance but were together “not long” before splitting up. He suggested that Covid-19 lockdown was a factor and that he had not been “ready”.

He recalled Danniella later posting a photo of herself, which prompted him to get back in touch. Tom said he messaged her saying “enjoy your day” and described her as “stunning”. He added: “And then I had to do some grovelling, basically.”

Tom once teased to Rolling Stone Australia/NZ that his single Remind Me, which was released in 2022, had been inspired by Danniella, whom he called his “best mate”. He said: “It was about reconnecting with somebody special.”

The musician told the outlet in an interview three years ago: “Now we’re back together, and I’m in love. She’s amazing, somebody who has changed my life completely.”

That same year, it was announced that Tom and Danniella had got engaged. Then, in June 2022, shortly after his proposal, the couple were seen at Wimbledon, where his fiancée appeared to be sporting an engagement ring.

More recently, Tom and Danniella tied the knot in May last year. The couple exchanged vows in a ceremony in Majorca that was attended by family and friends. The reception was held in an outdoor area at a venue on the island.

Some guests shared photos from the nuptials on social media at the time. One attendee wrote in a post that there had been a “euphoric atmosphere”. Another shared that they were in “awe” over the couple’s wedding celebrations.

Tom later confirmed he had got married and shared a photo of the newlyweds embracing in a field. He was seen in a black suit, whilst the bride wore a white dress. Beside a black heart emoji, he wrote in the post last year: “Life starts now.”

Weeks after the wedding, during his appearance on the Kyle and Jackie O Show, Tom revealed that he wrote Danniella a song as his wedding speech. He confirmed on the radio show at the time that it had been an unreleased song.

He said: “I thought my speech would be awful because I’m actually dyslexic. I’m rubbish at writing and speaking publicly.” Tom recalled telling his wife before the music began: “I can’t really talk as well as I would love but here goes …”

Earlier tonight, Tom shared that he’s become a parent in a post celebrating his album Everywhere I Went, Led Me to Where I Didn’t Want to Be having topped the charts in the UK. It marks his third consecutive chart-topping album.

Alongside a series of photos, one of which showed a baby holding his award for the achievement, he wrote: “From the kid who never thought he’d make it, to three consecutive number one albums, joining an esteemed club to do so with the likes of The Beatles & Oasis – words will never be enough for the gratitude I feel.

“To now be stepping into fatherhood at the same time is the greatest gift I could ever imagine. Music gave me purpose, but being a dad gives me everything. Here’s to the past that built me, the present that grounds me, and the future I can’t wait for!

“Thanks to all the fans for once again making my dreams a reality, I really couldn’t do it without you all. It’s going to be amazing to see so many of you on the upcoming tour in September. Honestly I’m so excited for what’s to come, we are just getting started.”
