It is a truth universally acknowledged that any actress playing Elizabeth Bennet must risk catching a cold in a frock on a blustery moor. Emma Corrin, who played Princess Diana in The Crown, looks fitting as the spirited sister in this first look at Netflix’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice.

Jack Lowden, star of Slow Horses, plays love interest Mr Darcy, following Colin Firth on the BBC in 1995 and Matthew Macfadyen in the 2005 film. The pair had to battle the elements as they filmed scenes for the upcoming series in the Peak District.

Netflix is hoping the six-parter, written by best-selling author Dolly Alderton, will bewitch fans of the classic 1813 novel. Olivia Colman also stars in the latest adaptation, alongside an impressive line-up.

Non-binary Emma, 29, called it “a once-in-a-lifetime role.” They said: “To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honor. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”

In the Jane Austen novel, Elizabeth and her four sisters face pressure to marry rich. Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman will play Elizabeth’s pushy mother, Mrs Bennet.

In the 1995 telly version, Colin Firth played Mr Darcy and Jennifer Ehle was Elizabeth. Then there was the 2005 movie starring Matthew Macfadyen and Keira Knightly in the lead roles, which put its own spin on the story.

Netflix’s latest offering promises to stay true to the book. Writer Dolly said: “Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.

“The book is a gift to adapt — packed with drama and depth as well as comedy and charm. In it lies the opportunity to examine the complexities of love, family, friendship, and society, while aspiring to Austen’s delightfully observational voice.

“With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favorite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”

Rufus Sewell, who last year played Prince Andrew in Scoop, will star as the ever-patient Mr Bennet, while Killing Eve’s Fiona Shaw has landed the role of Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

Stath Lets Flats favourite Jamie Demetriou plays the obsequious Mr Collins, while Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders) takes the role of Mr Bingley – the love match for eldest Bennet sister Jane, who is played by Freya Mavor.

Heartstopper’s Rhea Norwood takes the role of headstrong Bennet sister Lydia while Louis Partridge is set to play the handsome but hopeless Mr Wickham.

Hailey Bieber celebrates baby Jack Blues’ first birthday with never-before-seen photos

Hailey Bieber looked overjoyed as she celebrated her baby son, Jack Blue’s, first birthday – as rumours she is planning a second child with husband Justin Bieber continue to swirl

Hailey Bieber delighted fans by sharing adorable snaps of her baby son, Jack Blues, as she marked one year since his dramatic arrival. The 28-year-old model shares her young son with Canadian pop superstar husband Justin Bieber – and rumours are rife that the couple are planning their second baby together.

For now, however, the pair are doting on their one-year-old son, and celebrated his first birthday on Friday. Taking to social media on the day, Hailey uploaded a number of images of her bundle of joy.

On her main grid, she shared a pair of photos of herself holding her son affectionately. Her cover snap showed Hailey smiling wildly as she held Jack in front of her.

And a second snap showed her holding him close against her with their heads touching. She uploaded the images alongside a caption stating: “1 year of you my beautiful boy. Happy 1st Birthday Jack Blues, you are joy personified.”

On her Stories, she shared further photos – with Jack’s little hand visible from behind a bunch of helium-filled balloons. Fans were thrilled to see the happy mother and son together, with one commenting: “happy birthday sweet baby jack!!”

Jack’s birthday celebrations come amid swirling reports that Hailey and Justin, 31, are planning to expand their family. A source said: “Hailey wants to have a second child with Justin as long as they can step back from the public eye a little bit.

“She loves working on her company [Rhode Skin] and modeling, but she feels she would need some time away from the madness so she could be truly zen with it all and really enjoy the pregnancy.”

Reports revealed two-time Grammy winner Justin, who married Hailey in 2018, is eager to have a second child too. The source told the Daily Mail: “While he might appear out of step at times, the truth is he’s quite down-to-earth and cherishes being a dad.”

While both Hailey and Justin have proudly shared photos of their son with fans online – and the chart topping star has even sung about him in songs – his arrival was far from smooth in 2024. Hailey told Vogue in May this year: “Giving birth was the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Bieber told Vogue, adding that she took great pains (breathing exercises, acupuncture, yoga, pelvic-floor therapy, workouts, walking, weight training, etc.) to prepare her body to welcome her son, Jack, in the healthiest way possible. “I was on that shit. I was doing everything. I felt stronger physically than I ever had before.”

However, the model began leaking amniotic fluid at 39 weeks – and was placed into an induced labor – which went on for 18 agonising hours. She recounted: “That was not fun. They broke my water. I went into labor and I labored for a few hours. No epidural, nothing.”

She went on to reveal she underwent postpartum hemorrhaging – which doctors feared could lead to unstoppable blood loss. She said: “I trust my doctor with my life. But I was bleeding really badly, and people die, and the thought crosses your mind.”

The difficult birth was almost foretold by the model herself, who told W Magazine in July 2024, weeks before Jack arrived: “You see so many stories – traumatic birth stories, traumatic experiences – and I know that that’s very real. But I don’t want to scare myself.”

She also shared that she managed to keep her pregnancy a secret for months before telling the world.

She explained: “I was honestly able to keep it quiet because I stayed small for a long time. I didn’t have a belly, really, until I was six months pregnant, which was when I announced it. I was able to wear big jackets and stuff.”

And she added at the time: “I probably could have hid it until the end. But I didn’t enjoy the stress of not being able to enjoy my pregnancy outwardly. I felt like I was hiding this big secret, and it didn’t feel good. I wanted the freedom to go out and live my life.”

EastEnders’ Jacqueline Jossa tells fans not to vote for her at NTAs in surprise move

The National Television Awards return next month with EastEnders cast member Jacqueline Jossa up against one of her co-stars in the Serial Drama Performance category this year

Nominee Jacqueline Jossa has suggested that EastEnders fans don’t vote for her at the National Television Awards despite her being “over the moon” to be shortlisted. She’s told them that she’s “rooting” for Steve McFadden instead.

Nominations for the NTAs, which will be held next month, were announced earlier this week. Jac, 32, is recognised in the Serial Drama Performance category for her role as Lauren Branning on the BBC show. Her co-star Steve, 66, who plays Phil Mitchell, is nominated in the same category.

Steve’s storylines in recent months have included his character experiencing psychosis, which won him and the show a British Soap Award each earlier this year. Jac has herself been involved in high-profile storylines too, including Lauren continuing to deal with addiction and the character’s newborn son being diagnosed as severely sight impaired.

Jac and Steve are up against actors from two other soaps for the NTAs awards. The co-stars are in the category alongside Coronation Street’s Sue Devaney and Jack P. Shepherd, as well as Emmerdale star Eden Taylor-Draper.

Following the news of her nomination, Jac took to Instagram this afternoon to thank fans for their support. The actor, who won Best Newcomer in 2012, expressed concern about fans splitting the vote between her and Steve.

She wrote: “Thank you to everyone who has messaged or shared, the kind words are lovely, I’ve seen them and I appreciate them. I’m over the moon to be shortlisted for serial drama performance. It is a huge moment for me.”

Jac then said that her colleague Steve “deserves” to win. She said: “I am of course still rooting for the one and only Steve McFadden as I truly feel it’s his year and I’d hate for EastEnders fans to split the vote and then he doesn’t win!”

She continued by writing in the post on the platform today: “He deserves it so much.” Writing about being nominated, she told her followers in the message: “I am more than happy with a nomination. Maybe next time hehe.”

Jac concluded by expressing gratitude for the support she has received. She wrote: “I just wanted to jump on and say vote everything EastEnders at the NTAs. Thank you again for your lovely words and congratulations … I see you.”

This year’s NTAs are scheduled to be held at the O2 London on September 10. Fronted by returning host Joel Dommett, the awards ceremony, which is less than three weeks away, is due to be broadcast live on ITV that evening.

Jones Road make-up palette that makes shoppers ‘look younger’ is back in stock

The much-loved Jones Road Miracle Balm Palette has returned as a limited edition and is available in four colour options, each containing three flattering shades

Shoppers say this makes them ‘look younger’(Image: Jones Road palette)

Beauty lovers have been raving about a complexion-boosting make-up purchase they say makes them ‘look younger’. The Jones Road Miracle Balm Palette has made a comeback as a limited edition and comes in four colour choices with an exclusive shade in each palette.

Jones Road’s original Miracle Balm is a versatile product that’s said to deliver a fresh, healthy radiance, working as a highlighter, blush and bronzer. It can be applied over foundation to create a rosy flush on the cheeks or used alone for a natural, make-up-free glow.

Beauty lovers can now purchase three Miracle Balms in one palette for £34, which proves far more economical than buying a full-size version.

Each palette contains three Miracle Balm shades that offer a tint, a blush and a highlight. The portable palette has proved popular since its relaunch, securing a 4.27-star rating from over 640 online reviews.

One customer remarked: “This product makes my face look younger with a glow,” reports the Express.

Another buyer commented: “I’m an older, dry-skinned person and these miracle balms are all I use now – I look younger while wearing [it]. The mini compacts are perfect for leaving the house etc.”

Another customer praised the Miracle Balm palette for its effectiveness on her ‘oily’ complexion, stating: “I’d had my eye on them for a long time and they didn’t disappoint. Very easy to use and a little goes long way. They feel very light on the skin and look dewy. I have oily skin and they work really well on me. People’s reaction on my first day of wearing them was how great and healthy I looked, not how nice my make-up was.”

For those looking for a budget-friendly option, Makeup Revolution Balm Glow is available at £5.99 per shade and can be used on lips, cheeks and eyelids. One customer commented: “Lovely dew like effect. Great for mature skin.”

At Boots, customers can try out the TikTok-famous BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Blonzer, a creamy blush-and-bronzer hybrid that combines the rosiness of a blush with the sun-kissed glow of a bronzer. It’s available in five shades for £25.50.

The Jones Road Miracle Balm Palette, however, is ideal for those wanting to experiment with multiple shades without committing to a full-size product.

One 71-year-old customer expressed her satisfaction, saying: “I love this trio. I use the pink for my cheeks and my head at the top near my hairline for a sun-kissed look. I use others for adding a dewy look and the darker one for contouring. For my age at 71, this make-up is hydrating and feels good.”

However, not all shoppers are in agreement. One customer commented: “I like the moisture effect but the colour is too sheer and doesn’t last as long as I expected.”

Another decided to ‘return to her other blushes’, sharing: “Subtle glow, but not enough for a blush.”
