Following her devastating breakup with Stranger Things husband David Harbour, Lily Allen has spoken out about the decline in her mental health in British Vogue.

Lily Allen has revealed that she found herself in the midst of despair facing suicidal thoughts when it emerged that her husband, Stranger Things actor David Harbour, had been having a three-year affair behind her back. The singer and mum of two publicly split with her husband in December.

But she was just about to go back in when this happened.

In a new interview with British Vogue, ahead of the release of her latest studio album, she admitted that she put herself into rehab as she was feeling as though she “wanted to die.”

At the height of finding out that her husband, who she married in Las Vegas in September 2020, had been cheating on her, Lily revealed that she refused to use drink and drugs to ease the pain. A method that had worked for her in the past.

She explained to the fashion magazine, “I was feeling very depressed right now.” It was agonizing to sit with those feelings and choose not to use them because I last experienced them when I felt anything like that.

In a desperate effort to resist the temptation to use outdated coping mechanisms to deal with her heartache, Lily, 40, made the brave decision to check herself into rehab.

She continued, “I’ve entered those areas before against my will, and I think that’s progress.” That’s strength, she says, “on her self awareness.” I was like, “I need some time away,” when I realized that the things I was feeling were too extreme to handle.

Lily openly acknowledged that it was because of the fact that “I wanted to die” when she checked herself in.

The singer claimed that things were “really, really, really bad” in the wake of her breakup and that the star had a troubled relationship with food in the past.

She continued, “I was feeling very depressed right now. It was agonizing to sit with those feelings and choose not to use them because I last experienced them when I felt anything like that.

With an upcoming album modeled after her marriage to Stranger Things actor David, Lily, who has two daughters with her first ex-husband Sam Cooper, plans to rekindle her musical career.

But one of her songs, Sleepwalking, features her heartache over discovering that he had been having an affair with her.

You made me believe I was me in my head and not some girl in your bed, the song’s lyrics say.

She also wrote, “You know I used to be quite famous, that was way back then, and I probably should explain how my marriage has been open since my husband went wrong,” in a song called Dallas Major.

However, when the publication inquired as to whether the songs were her way of directly addressing her ex, she replied, “There are things on the record that I experienced within my marriage, but that’s not to say that it’s all gospel. What transpired in the relationship serves as inspiration for it.

She claimed she felt a mix of “confusion, sorrow, grief, helplessness” when she wrote the notes for her most recent album in seven years.

Britney Spears’ ex-husband has suggested she never “really got over” her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake. In Kevin Federline’s explosive new memoir, titled You Thought You Knew, Kevin Federline, who married the pop icon in 2004, dropped a bombshell involving Britney’s alleged feelings towards Justin whilst they were married.

In her own 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, Britney revealed highly personal details about her relationship with pop icon Justin, whom she was in a relationship from 1999 to 2002.

Britney had reportedly become pregnant with the former NSYNC star’s baby but had an abortion as “Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father”, something she described as “one of the most agonising things” she’s ever experienced.

Her romance with the Grammy-winning Cry Me a River singer was also a topic that emerged in Kevin’s book, who alleged that Britney called Justin the night before she was due to marry Kevin, reports the Telegraph.

It was purported that whilst “sobbing”, she vowed to him that she did indeed want to proceed with the marriage. Yet, in his words, he said he had the sense she had “unfinished business” with Justin.

He also suggested Britney never “really got over him” and described how Justin would ultimately remain in the background of their relationship, which ended officially with divorce in 2007. Federline described her ex-boyfriend’s presence as “like a ghost in the background”.

In response to allegations in the book, Britney, who has two children with her ex-husband Sean Preston and Jayden James, has since criticised Kevin’s “constant gaslighting.”

He also alleged that the Oops!…I Did It Again hitmaker would stand over their sleeping sons while holding a knife. Kevin alleged that their sons would wake up to find their mother watching them, only for her to leave the room without explanation.

In an Instagram post, Britney responded to what she termed her ex’s “gaslighting” and told her fans that she “always pleaded and screamed” to have a life with her sons.

She remarked, “Ex-husband constant gaslighting is incredibly painful and exhausting.” I’ve always pleaded and cried for my boys’ lives. It’s difficult to have relationships with teenage boys.

Britney also said she felt “demoralised by this situation” and had always asked and “almost begged” for her children to be a part of her life, but they’d witnessed the “lack of respect shown by their own father for me.”

They must assume accountability for themselves, she added. With one son only seeing me for 45 minutes in the past five years, and the other only making four visits. I’m proud of myself. I’ll notify them whenever I’m available from now on.

The only person who actually suffers here is Britney, who continued, “Truly, those white lies in that book are going straight to the bank.” You won’t care what I think about my drinking and mental health because I will always love them.

The pop star then noted that she has been trying to lead a “sacred and private life” for the past five years and that she is speaking on this because she has “had enough.”

A source told The Sun that the pair are “at a crossroads” and some of that is to do with their differing opinions on having children soon. They said: “They’re at a crossroads. Brad wants kids and is frustrated that Olivia won’t give him an answer about when she will start trying.

“He is worried she’ll never be ready because he is desperate to be a dad. It’s obviously hugely concerning because they are both in completely different headspaces when it comes to the next step in their marriage. There’s a worry that their relationship won’t recover if they can’t compromise.”

This comes as Olivia opened up about the realities of married life with her husband after fans started wondering why they have not been seen together recently.

The Loose Women panellist told Hello! magazine that she refuses to condemn people for gossiping about her relationship. “Sometimes the people that have the shiniest exterior have the most f***ed up stuff going on,” she said.

“Everyone has stuff going on behind the scenes, and they don’t talk about it, so when it comes to your own relationship, you have to give yourself a break.

“Also, weirder things happen in this industry than any other. I don’t condemn people for gossiping about my relationship because I love gossiping about other people.”
