Gavin and Stacey fishing trip scene unveiled as creators finally explain what happened

Gavin and Stacey creators James Corden and Ruth Jones have finally explained what happened on the infamous fishing trip, after a deleted scene was unearthed

A comical scene from Gavin and Stacey, centred around the notorious fishing trip, was left on the editing room floor. The scene, penned by creators James Corden and Ruth Jones for the third series, never made it to air. Over a decade later, this unseen footage is being revealed to the public for the first time today.

The scene features Jason and Uncle Bryn having an open discussion about the enigmatic trip. James shared: “We wrote this whole moment that Jason came into Bryn’s house. Bryn had been clearing out his loft and had found this camcorder tape that said ‘The fishing trip’. The idea was that they put it in. It’s all camcorder footage and then just at the moment that you think it’s going to go on, the tape fuzzes out and gets stuck in the video player.”

Fans have been theorising about what transpired on the trip for years. Some of the theories are so outlandish that they’ve left the cast flabbergasted. Ruth commented: “It’s amazing the theories that have come out. People say, ‘I think I’ve worked it out. It does make you go, ‘People’s minds are really strange’.”

James chimed in: “And quite dark! If anybody ever asks me what happened I say, ‘I have no idea, I wasn’t there’.”

Gavin and Stacey concluded last Christmas with a 90-minute special. In their new book When Gavin Met Stacey, James and Ruth have unveiled secrets about the comedy. The duo are currently developing a new series for AppleTV+. Earlier this week, they discussed the project publicly for the first time. Ruth revealed: “We are writing together at the moment.”

James stated: “We are trying as best we can to just sit with the characters and wait for them to tell us where it’s going to go and what the show is going to be,” reports the Daily Star.

The full script reads:. JASON: Is that what I think it is? BRYN: Yes. JASON: I thought it had been destroyed. BRYN: I know, I know. JASON: You promised me you’d burned it. BRYN: I know, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t bring myself to do it. JASON: Do you ever…? BRYN: No, of course not. A couple of times I’ve watched it. JASON: Put it on. BRYN: No, Jason, no. We can’t. JASON: Do it.

The hit sitcom went out in style with critical acclaim and a huge record-breaking BBC audience on Christmas Day. At a London event for fans, James Corden and Ruth Jones gave behind the scenes secrets including how they considered taking Barry Island and the cast to the big screen.

This also comes after it was revealed that Ruth is set to star and co-create a new comedy for the BBC with a writing partner – but it’s not James Corden. BBC Wales and BBC Comedy have commissioned a new sitcom from the Gavin & Stacey star that’s all about navigating relationships as a middle aged person.

The 59-year-old is teaming up with actor and comedian Steve Speirs for the project, 10 years after they starred in Sky comedy Stella together. The untitled show will follow the unlikely friendship between two people who meet at a knee trauma clinic – retired teacher and widower Clive, 60, and environmental officer Shelley-Anne, 55, who is going through a bitter divorce.

Ruth said in a statement: “I’m so grateful to the BBC for commissioning our new series. Steve and I are old friends and working with him is always a thrill. Can’t wait.”

While Steve, 60, added: “Thanks to the team at the BBC for backing our new show. I’ve worked with Ruth for over 30 years and am really looking forward to doing it again!”

Kneecap condemns ‘waste of taxpayers money’ as prosecutors appeal terror case decision

Kneecap claimed there is a ‘state-wide witch-hunt against Palestinian solidarity’ as they issued a statement after it was announced prosecutors will appeal against a court’s decision to throw out the terrorism case against Mo Chara

Kneecap have issued a defiant response after it was announced prosecutors will appeal against a court’s decision to throw out the terrorism case against one-third of its members, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh. In the statement shared on social media, the Belfast trio claimed there is a “state-wide witch-hunt against Palestinian solidarity.”

The 27-year-old musician, who goes by Mo Chara, was accused of displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah at a concert in November 2024. Mo Chara’s legal team argued that the case should be thrown out, citing what they say was a technical flaw in how the charge was issued. The court agreed, and the case was dismissed last month.

In a short statement, the Crown Prosecution Service said it would be appealing against the decision because “we believe there is an important point of law which needs to be clarified”.

Kneecap recently responded to the plans to appeal in a statement shared on their page. The H.O.O.D rappers said: “A Message to the Police (British) State

“News of a Crown Prosecution Service Appeal against the ruling of their own judge is unsurprising. He ruled the charge was ‘unlawful and null’ and it was.

“It is unsurprising because this whole process has not been driven by the police or the courts, it has been driven by politicans backed up by British media. This is political policing.

“There is no ‘important point of law’. The CPS have submitted nothing new in their appeal. What there is though, is a state wide witch-hunt against Palestinian solidarity. The media were gleefully informed about this appeal before we were.”

In another slide, they added: “Once again this is a massive waste of taxpayers money, of police time, of court time. Once again there are endless news reports about Mo Chara, about Kneecap but we are NOT the story.

“Yesterday 104 Palestinians were murdered in Gaza and hundreds more maimed as Israel commits genocide. Entire families wiped out, people bombed to pieces as they slept, young kids with limbs blown off and no medicaine to treat them.

“This is aided and supported by the British State. We will fight you in your court again. We will win again. FREE PALESTINE / TIOCHFAIDH ÁR LÁ.”

The chief magistrate labelled the decision to charge Ó hAnnaidh as “unlawful” as he dismissed the case while sitting at Woolwich Crown Court on September 26.

After the hearing last month, he said: “This entire process was never about me. It was never about any threat to the public, it was never about terrorism – a word used by your Government to discredit people you oppress.

“It was always about Gaza, about what happens if you dare to speak up.”

Celebrity Big Brother star says run-in with Victoria Beckham still ‘triggers my PTSD’

One Celebrity Big Brother star has said an experience with Posh Spice gave her PTSD after banning her from ‘glancing’ in Victoria Beckham’s direction

Ahead of the release of Victoria Beckham’s Netflix documentary, Celebrity Big Brother star Liz Jones has said the former Spice Girl gave her post traumatic stress disorder.

Writing a first-person piece, Liz headlined her piece: “I’ve seen the real Victoria Beckham… her actions gave me PTSD” but started by discussing the documentary, which follows Victoria’s fashion career, and praised the singer for taking a chance on starting a business instead of putting her feet up like she could’ve done given husband David Beckham’s football wealth.

However, before long, Liz was diving into her personal history with Victoria. “I first met Victoria at the British Fashion Awards in the late Nineties. She was as small as a sparrow in a Julien Macdonald cobweb dress, and although I was the editor of a fashion magazine, Marie Claire, she still gazed over my shoulder, searching for someone more useful to butter up.”

She added in her column for the Daily Mail that their next encounter was “even less warm”. Liz had organised a cover shoot for Marie Claire with Victoria and it was to happen in Paris. She said the organisation was so stressful that “even now, calling her new PR triggers my PTSD”.

Liz explained how Victoria complained about the Eurostar, despite almost missing it. “Victoria and her entourage almost missed the Eurostar. She insisted on bringing her new baby, Brooklyn; a message I received from the train was that the carriage ‘doesn’t look first class.”

According to Liz, the rest of the shoot went well, but everything “kicked off when [Victoria] arrived back in London”. The former editor said Victoria hated the headline and threatened to sue if a picture of her and then baby Brooklyn was included. “She was a tiger mum from the start,” Liz wrote.

“Victoria is all about control,” Liz added when discussing how she felt the singer disliked her more when she moved to the Daily Mail. She added that when she attended the launch of Victoria’s ad campaign for Marc Jacobs in 2008, she was immediately told “on no account could I approach Victoria, and that I also ‘must not look at her’.”

“Do not even glance in her direction,” the PR is reported to have said. Liz went on to explain how she was “barred” from further Victoria Beckham shows, despite positively reviewing her work.

The former editor then continued to heap praise onto Victoria, who she said was talented, even if she still feels like “acne-ridden teenager, desperate to belong” as she is reported to describe herself in the new documentary.

But Liz then added that we shouldn’t “blame [Victoria] too much” for her rude behaviour. “Don’t blame her too much. It’s easy for those who find themselves accepted into that luxe world, from the influencers to the editors and the clients, to have their heads turned. When Victoria lost her luggage at Heathrow, her first thought was to have a minion call Dolce and Gabbana, who duly couriered a complete wardrobe to her home. It’s an entitled world, you see it all the time.”
