Carrie Underwood’s biggest controversies as she’s slammed for supporting Donald Trump
Carrie Underwood has supported scandal-hit Donald Trump in the biggest way.
The country music legend will take to the stage to perform America the Beautiful at his inauguration later today, alongside Village People at two events. Carrie, who found fame on American Idol will perform moments before the scandal-hit President takes the oath inside the Capitol.
However, the 41-year-old singer-songwriter has previously poked fun at Trump, most notably at the 2017 Country Music Awards. During the show, she and Brad Paisley made light of the former Apprentice star. They sang an updated version of her song Before He Cheats but altered the lyrics to mock Trump’s bizarre Twitter outbursts.
“It’s fun to watch, yeah, that’s for sure, ’til little Rocket Man starts a nuclear war,” one lyric said. But it appears that she has now backtracked on her previous comments. But ahead of her performance for the former reality star turned politician, what controversies has she been involved in? The Mirror have delved through the arcives.
‘Career hits an all time low’
Despite Carrie saying she was “humbled” to accept the call to perform at the inauguration, many of her long-term fans lashed out. Speaking about performing before Trump walks into the Oval Office again, she told Associated Press: “I love our country and am honoured to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future. “
Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter to discuss the move, with some claiming that Carrie’s career is “over. ” One user said: “Carrie Underwood’s career dropping to the lowest it’s ever been and she hasn’t had a hit song in over 10 years. ” “Say bye-bye to your career! ! ! ” said a second.
Meanwhile a third responded: “Carrie Underwood will perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration: ‘We must all come together in the spirit of unity’ Her career is over. ” Another typed: “Carrie Underwood is preforming at Trump’s inauguration so I’m blocking her on all apps and boycotting all her music. “
Celeb feud
In a post which has gone viral on Threads, one user wrote: “Remember when Hilary Duff refused to sit with or acknowledge/interact with Carrie Underwood when their men both played for the same hockey team and there were unaddressed rumours for months that they hated each other… ? Hilary always stays winning. “
During the 2006/2007 NHL season, Carrie’s husband Mike FIsher and Hilary’s ex-husband Mike Comrie were teammates. The post was accompanied by a photo of the two WAGs conspicuously sitting in separate rows at an Ottawa Senators game.
Fans instantly took to the comments, with one user writing: “Hilary knew best, man. She tried to tell us. ” Another went on to speculate about a lyric in one of Carrie’s songs, writing: “Was Hillary the ‘other woman’ in Carrie Underwoods ‘Before he cheats song’ Genuinely curious if this is true. ” However, neither Carrie nor Hillary have commented on their alleged feud and speculation.
Before He Cheats
The 2006 track released by Carrie has been slammed online. One Reddit user said of the track: “This is an extremely toxic mindset and if what I’ve said so far holds any weight or truth then I’m pretty sure that this kind of behaviour qualifies as abuse. And I should know. As a woman I’ve been taught to look out for red flags, and this entire song is f***ing full of them. If I was the man described in this song I would file a restraining order against the singer. “
Lyrics in the track state: “I dug my key into the side of his pretty little souped up four-wheel drive, carved my name into his leather seats, I took a Louisville slugger to both headlines, slashed a hole in all four tyres,” this is, however, without knowing whether her partner was actually cheating on her.
A Reddit user went on to add: “If this person has had a bad personal experience with their partner, then why isn’t the song about that? Why isn’t the partner being punished for something that they actually did, rather than being “punished” in anticipation of something they might not have even done? “
Covid-19 scandal
At the height of the coronavirus scandal, which saw millions wearing masks across the world to contain the virus, Carrie came under fire.
She liked a deleted tweet from Matt Walsh that went against the mask mandates for children in Nashville schools, with the controversial podcaster claiming they were similar to child abuse. The like didn’t go unnoticed by her fans who were left unimpressed. However, things reached a new height when her husband claimed that lockdown did not work.
Sports digs
While Carrie’s husband, now retired NHL player Mike Fisher was playing, Carrie appeared to take aim at the Anaheim Ducks ahead of their game with Fisher’s team, the Nashville Predators. In 2017, she tweeted: “Woah, what’s with all the empty seats in Anaheim tonight? ! Wouldn’t happen in #Smashville that’s for sure. “
A fan of the Ducks soon hit back with one writing: “Kinda reminiscent of your shows, Carrie? “
“Out of touch parenting advice”
It’s the one topic that can spark a fierce debate – parenting.
While many parents are sad to see their children return to school, it appeared that Carrie couldn’t wait to kick back and enjoy a glass of bubbly after waving her children off. During an interview with Sirius XM, she said: “My advice to parents sending their children back to school is mimosas on the first day.
“I love all the time I get to spend with them, but I also love when they just go to school for just a little bit so mama can have a mimosa and, like, mop the floor, you know? ” But the comments went down like a lead balloon. One social media user wrote: “She’s a sweet soul and this was intended to be cute and lighthearted but… Sigh… It’s just… very out of touch in more ways than one. “
A second added: “Rich people huh… I actually hated when school started… She sounds fake. “
