Sivert Mannsverk will be signed on loan until the end of the season by Cardiff City.
The Norwegian, 22, has completed his medical and agreed personal terms with the Welsh club.
Mannsverk, who has only made two league appearances for Ajax this season because of injury, could make his Bluebirds debut at Leeds United in Saturday’s Championship fixture.
Due to long-term injuries, Cardiff are without Aaron Ramsey and David Turnbull, but his arrival is appropriate.
Mannsverk would become Cardiff’s second signing of the January transfer window, following striker Yousef Salech’s arrival from Swedish side Sirius.
Senior club sources have suggested that players may need to be sold in order for Cardiff to make more signings.
