Can the US broker a Ukraine ceasefire?

According to Anatol Lieven, director of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft’s Eurasia program, the United States’ offer is an “unfortunate compromise” that Russia and Ukraine should accept.

Lieven advises Steve Clemons on the importance of allowing the Ukrainian leaders to acknowledge the loss of the Ukrainian territories that Russia has occupied for years.

He adds that Russia “gives up” on its hoped-full occupy of all of Ukraine because it agreed to a ceasefire on the current battle lines.
