The KDI’s Executive Director, Bukola Idowu, has criticised the way the by-elections took place last Saturday, claiming that discrepancies observed ten years ago are still occurring in 2025.

Idowu, who appeared as a guest on Tuesday’s Political Paradigm&nbsp program on Channels Television, claimed that there was no difference between the irregularities found in 2015 and those found in recent polls.

The director of Kimpact pointed to incidents in Anambra, Ogun, Enugu, Kaduna, and Kano states as well as widespread electoral violence, particularly in Kogi.

He criticized the IReV portal’s failure to publish all results despite the election having been postponed since 2024, contending that “the lack of funding cannot excuse such lapses.”

He also called for alternatives from the private sector and called for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop relying on the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for logistics.

Idowu attributed declining “trust in the electoral process,” which he characterized as “increasingly transactional,” to low voter turnout in the election.

He claims that “little progress has been made despite their significant investments” and that international partners are also disillusioned.

In 16 of the state’s 12 constituencies, which included seats vacated for senators, federal, and state assembly, were held on Saturday.
