Jack McMullen, a former Brookside child star, is a long way from the beloved BBC series Brookside.
Channel 4 soap Brookside is finally returning to television screens twenty years after the show was axed, but there is a totally unexpected twist.
As part of Hollyoaks’ 30th anniversary celebration this year, there’ll be a special episode combining with Brookside. Running from 1982 to 2003, Brookside was Sir Phil Redmond’s first soap and laid the foundation for the kind of storytelling Hollyoaks would later adopt.
Over the course of more than 20 years, Brookside star Jack McMullen made his name playing Josh McLoughlin in the television series. The relationship between Mike Dixon (Paul Byatt) and his stepmother, Bev (Sarah White), was so famous that it became famous.
When Vince Earl’s son Mike prevented the adoption of the child, Ron Dixon (Vince Earl) wanted to adopt the child, the situation became more problematic.
After Ron and Bev’s wedding, Josh and Ron separated and the three of them moved out to start a new life.
Child actor Jack made a very successful acting career in television after saying goodbye to Brookside in 2003.
The actor, now 34, landed the role of Tigger Johnson in the iconic kids’ show Grange Hill, which he starred in for four years.
He returned to work on a regular basis in another significant role, this time as Finn Sharkey in Waterloo Road on the BBC.
He has appeared in a number of difficult-hitting roles, including the dramatization of the real-life tragedy Little Boy Blue and the jail drama Time.
Most recently, he starred as Jamie Phelan in the hit BBC drama This City Is Ours opposite Sean Bean and James Nelson-Joyce. In 2023, Jack starred as Lewis in the Apple TV series Hijack, which stars Idris Elba in the main role.
Jack’s has appeared in Le Mans ‘ 66, Screw, The Souvenir, The F1rst Team, and Dead Shot as well. Will Jack make another Hollyoaks crossover appearance in Brookside?
The location of the special Brookside episode will be Brookside Close in a residential area of Liverpool.
Some classic characters are expected to return, not just the location.
