At the World Paralympics in New Delhi, Great Britain’s Funmi Oduwaiye and Dan Greaves both won bronze in the F44 shot put and the other.
With her first throw of the competition, Oduwaiye, 22, put together a personal best of 12.11m.
After finishing ahead of China’s Yao Juan and American Arelle Middleton, Oduwaiye’s final five attempts were flagged as being unsuccessful.
Oduwaiye asserted that “there is undoubtedly more to come.”
“I am aware of my potential.” It’s nice to be given some initial appreciation for a bronze medal.
Unfortunately, that’s how the game is because there was definitely another big one [throw] out there.
In the F44 discus, Greaves, 42, completed a throw of 52.42m to finish third, trailing Colombia’s Andres Mosquera Neira and Trinidad and Tobago’s Akeem Stewart.
For field athletes with lower limb deficiency, leg length differences, or limited leg movement range that affect their balance, the F44 classification is appropriate.
Mel Woods also just missed out on a medal, winning fourth in the women’s 400-meter T54 final, behind fellow Briton Harrison Walsh, who placed fifth with a 51.49m effort.
In India, Great Britain has already won 15 medals, including four golds.
