Breaking: Passenger Jet crashes into Potomac River in Washington, after Mid-air collision with helicopter
Near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, a regional jet operated by American Airlines reportedly collided with a military helicopter in midair. The plane was coming from Wichita, Kansas. A person familiar with the details said the flight was carrying 64 people, CNBC reported.
Around 9 p.m. ET, the passenger jet was approaching Runway 33 at the airport when a regional PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet collided with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter, according to the FAA. Four members of the crew and 60 passengers were on the plane. A defense official and an Army official claimed that the helicopter was a Black Hawk from the Army.
President Donald Trump stated in a statement that the “terrible accident that just occurred at Reagan National Airport” had been covered by the president’s statement. In a statement released on X by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, he said, “May God bless their souls.”
