Following the passing of her separated husband Jeff Baena at the beginning of this year, American actress Aubrey Plaza has described it as a “daily juggle.”
The Los Angeles County medical examiner determined that the filmmaker had committed suicide in January at the age of 47. The director and screenwriter died hanging from a hanging tree at a home close to the Fern Dell Nature Trail near Hollywood Hills.
Jeff’s death was announced in January, but Aubrey made a statement to his family, this time out of candor. On her appearance on Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary show in February, the Agatha All Along star paid a subtle tribute to her late husband.

The actress, who appeared on Amy Poehler’s podcast during her Parks and Recreation co-star Amy Poehler’s appearance, discussed how to deal with grief after making her red carpet appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
She continued, “I feel happy to be with you at this very, very present moment. Overall, I’m functioning and here. I’m so blessed to be traversing the world. I believe I’m fine, but it’s obviously a daily battle.
She compared her grief to Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy’s The Gorge from the 2025 film, according to Amy’s Good Hang podcast.
She said, “I actually mean it because this analogy is really stupid and it was kind of a joke at one point.” The Gorge, did you watch it? There is a gorge in between and a cliff on one side, and there is a cliff on the other, and there are all these monster people trying to get them.
When I watched it, I allegedly said, “I swear I was like that’s how my grief feels like… or what it might be like.” There is always a gigantic ocean of terribleness right there for me to see.

“Sometimes, I just want to get right into it and just like be in it.” Then I occasionally just keep looking at it and occasionally retreat. However, it is always present.
According to a report from the Los Angeles County Coroner Investigator, Aubrey and Jeff broke up in September 2024. The couple got married ten years later after dating since they had been together since 2011.
After getting “a little bored one night” during the Covid pandemic, the actress revealed to The Ellen DeGeneres Show in December 2021 that they had decided to tie the knot. The Little Hours and the 2014 horror film Life After Beth were co-written by the two.
Aubrey revealed what she wore on her wedding day during a conversation with Drew Barrymore the following month. She explained that Jeff and I decided to wear tie-dye pajamas that he had made for us because he really got into tie-dying during the [coronavirus] quarantine. It’s assumed that Jeff created the tie-dye shirt she wore on SNL in February.
In the workplace comedy Parks and Recreation, where Poehler portrayed politician Leslie Knope, Aubrey is best known for her role as April. She is also renowned for her roles in Agatha All Along and The White Lotus, the second season of Marvel. She has also appeared in movies like Emily The Criminal, Megalopolis, My Old Ass, Ingrid Goes West, and Dirty Grandpa.
Baena also wrote the 2004 comedy I Heart Huckabees, starring Jude Law, Jason Schwartzman, Dustin Hoffman, and Mark Wahlberg, as well as the 2020 thriller Horse Girl, which stars Alison Brie, and the 2022 dark comedy Spin Me Round, both of which he also directed.
Additionally, he co-wrote the comedy anthology series Cinema Toast, which featured Alison Brie as the lead actress and Alison Brie as the lead actress.
