Carrie Johnson has opened up about her “real rollercoaster” since she and former prime minister Boris Johnson welcomed their fourth child, a baby girl named Poppy
The spouse of a former prime minister has candidly shared her “struggle” with motherhood. Carrie Johnson, the wife of Boris Johnson, has openly spoken about experiencing “struggle” and shedding “tears” following the arrival of their latest family member six weeks ago.
She reveals the highs and lows of parenting on Instagram, not holding back on the demanding nature of raising children. She describes their time since welcoming the new addition as both incredibly joyous yet “overwhelming.”
In an emotional post, she penned: “The first six weeks of Poppy. The last few weeks have been a real rollercoaster but overwhelmingly, very happy indeed.
“There has been [very] little sleep, quite a few tears and even a dash to hospital. Some days it’s a struggle to even get dressed in the morning, given Pop wants to be held all the time.
“In these pics I look vaguely presentable but most days I’m rocking the mum bun, have huge dark circles under my eyes and am wearing clothes covered in baby vomit.
“BUT here are some of the highlights – introducing Pop to friends and family, celebrating birthdays and even taking her to Warwick for my university reunion. Now all four kids are home for summer, the real chaos begins!”
This June saw Carrie, 37, posting a photo from the hospital with her daughter, Poppy Eliza Josephine. She disclosed: “Being hospitalised for two nights for severe dehydration was not on my postpartum bingo card.”
She also urged fellow “breastfeeding mums” to stay well-nourished and hydrated amidst the sweltering heat, particularly those who are “clusterfeeding”. The arrival of Poppy on May 21 marked the addition of a fourth child to their family.
Their son Frank made his entrance in July 2023, joining siblings Romy, born in December 2021, and Wilfred, who arrived in April 2020. During her hospital stay, she shared an Instagram story about her tough week, describing it as “honestly brutal.”
“Mastitis (me), reflux (her), dehydration (me). What a pair we are!,” she continued. She expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and valuable advice on handling reflux, saying: “Really appreciate it and made me feel way less alone going through it all. And as ever, thanks to our amazing NHS.”
Her candid revelation about the past six weeks’ struggles prompted an influx of supportive messages. The post quickly garnered over 9,000 likes.
One individual commented: “You’re doing a good job, Carrie. Be proud of yourself mama.” Another penned: “Poppy doesn’t care. She knows she’s loved.”
A third chimed in with: “Beautiful photos with your words of reality. Keep being you. Grateful you share your lovely family with kindness and the reality.”
And a fourth added their voice, saying: “You have a beautiful family Carrie. Cherish these days because before you know it they will be stroppy teenagers.”
