Terence “Geezer” Butler, the bassist for Black Sabbath, honors his bandmate and friend Ozzy Osbourne in a heartfelt piece in The Sunday Times, praising their “57 incredible years of friendship.”

The rock world is mourning the loss of the iconic frontman who passed away on 22 July at the age of 76, just two weeks following Black Sabbath’s final performance.

Geezer wrote in his tribute, “I didn’t realize then that I would never see Ozzy again after that night.”

The seminal band, which included The Polka Tulk Blues Band and Earth, was formed in 1968 by Geezer and Ozzy and Tony Iommi and Bill Ward.

He recalled when an uni-foot Ozzy showed up at his door, prompting him to invite Ozzy to the band.

Geezer wrote in his own words, “Ozzy wasn’t the Prince of Darkness; rather, he was the Prince of Laughter,” at the age of 76. He was born an entertainer and would do anything to make people laugh.

In acknowledging Ozzy’s health issues as they approached rehearsals that began a month prior, Geezer looked back at their final performance on July 5th.

He admitted, “I wasn’t prepared to see how frail he was, but I knew he wasn’t in good health.” He was using a cane, which was black and adorned with gold and precious stones, as Ozzy, and two helpers and a nurse helped him enter the rehearsal room.

He sat in a chair while singing, and he didn’t really say much other than the typical greetings.

He observed them practicing their songs, but he noted that Ozzy appeared worn-out after only a few songs and was noticeably subdued in comparison to his former self.

The finale, according to Geezer, was the strangest aspect of the entire show. We normally give each other hugs and bows to the audience, but we didn’t consider it when Ozzy was there. How do we behave? Tony waved his hand to me and gave him a cake, but it was such an odd way to end our story.

“Wishes are now redundant, but I wish I could have spent more time with Ozzy backstage.” As Ozzy once said, “Wish in one hand and s*** in the other and see which comes first.” ‘”.

“The fact that he had to leave us just over two weeks after the final performance was beyond belief.” I’m still so grateful for our most recent performance in front of his adoring fans, though.

Geezer described having shared the majority of his life with Ozzy as “privileged.”

He concluded his tribute by saying, “God bless, Oz, it has been a wild ride!” Love you”!.
