Bill Murray finally sheds light on Kelis romance rumours as he admits he ‘had to meet her’

Actor Bill Murray is setting the record straight on his rumoured relationship with singer Kelis.

The Hollywood legend, 74, and the Milkshake star, 45, sparked speculation after being spotted together at a London festival. Speaking on SiriusXM’s Sway In The Morning, Murray acknowledged the gossip but downplayed any romantic involvement. “I met this girl named Kelis”, he said. “I got great press that I was dating her, which really raised my cred”.

Murray admitted he first noticed Kelis in ODB’s Got Your Money music video. “I love that video”, he said. “I kept going, ‘ That’s the silliest thing. How did I miss that when it came out in the first place? ‘ It’s so crazy, and I’m going, ‘ Who is the girl with the red hair? ‘ And it was Kelis, so I just had to meet her sometime. She’s turned out to be spectacular”.

Though the two have reconnected, Murray denied they ever dated. “No. No, but, you know, one of us could be on the rebound any second”, he quipped. Kelis, however, dismissed the speculation at the time. When a fan asked her on Instagram in 2023 about the “Bill Murray allegations”, she simply responded: “Lol no babe, I wouldn’t bother at all”.

Rumours about their connection began in 2023 when Murray was spotted at several of Kelis ‘ performances. Sources claimed the duo began spending time together at a hotel and had been “getting close for a while” after first meeting stateside.

It’s said they initially bonded following the death of Kelis ‘ second husband in March 2022, while Bill’s estranged wife died in 2021. Kelis ‘ late husband Mike Mora passed away at the age of 37 after a battle with stage 4 stomach cancer. His condition was first confirmed seven months prior and he was initially given just 18 months left to live.

Bill was spotted enjoying a concert by the songstress when she took on the Mighty Hoopla Festival in South London. Backstage at the event, the pair posed for a cosy-looking photo. A source told The Sun: “They’ve met up in the States before which got people in the industry talking, and now are meeting up in London while they’re both here. They’ve clearly hit it off”.

They continued: “But they’ve also both shared relatively recent bereavements and have that common bond between them.

” Whatever it is that has brought them together, and however unlikely it seems, they are both single and are having fun despite the fairly big age gap. “

Bill was in London at the time filming the sequel for the Ghostbusters reboot, where he reprised his famous role as Peter Venkman.
