BBC star accuses Matt Lucas of offensive behaviour towards sign language interpreter

Following the comic’s public apology to an actress, a radio host has attacked Little Britain star Matt Lucas’ alleged behavior.
Nihal Arthanayake, a comedian for BBC One, claimed the comedian “took the p***” out of a British sign language interpreter. The DJ, age 53, took to Instagram to criticize Matt’s alleged actions and made a statement on social media. After Matt had compared her to Little Britain’s fictional character Vicky Pollard, he had apologised to Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things.
One of the names Millie Bobby Brown mentioned to her on social media and in the press was Matt Lucas, according to Nihal. I therefore decided to share a brief account of Matt Lucas with you.
The sign language interpreter was allegedly made fun of by the 51-year-old while performing at the 2024 British Book Awards. I merely wanted to share a short excerpt from the British Book Awards last year, when Matt Lucas decided it would be funny to remove the British sign language interpreter from the stage,” Nihal said.
“It felt so uneasy being there. Anyway, I went on stage while I was presenting the award, and I was first asked by the British sign language interpreter, “How do you sign Matt Lucas is a w***er?” You can imagine how the audience responded. Ricky Gervais and other people liked the post, too.
However, some people made comments encouraging Matt’s support. Rob Rinder was one of them when he wrote, “Respect you Nihal, I know you care about fairness a lot. After watching the clip, it appears to me that Matt’s joke appeared to be well received by both the audience and the BSL signer. There doesn’t appear to be any beating or cursing. Kritik can be learned, but it must be fair. This is not, in my opinion, “.” He continued, “I would have assumed that Mr. Lucas’s persistent support for Arsenal would be a significant complaint.” That qualifies as a “hate crime x”
Matt made up his mind earlier this week after Millie called him out. An image of her with her blonde hair tied up in a messy bun and a pink tracksuit and silver hoops had been captioned by him. He remarked, “No, but yeah, but.”
He apologized and wrote, “Dear Millie, I just saw your post and wanted to respond, and give some context,” after Millie called him out. I co-wrote and appeared in a sketch show called Little Britain almost 25 years ago. In the photo where you had blonde hair and wore a pink top, I pointed out the similarity by posting one of her catchphrases, and the character in it was called “Vicky Pollard” who had blonde hair and always wore a pink top.
He continued, saying that he was mortified, adding that he was “two-for-all” indifferent because of how well-versed he was. If I had anticipated it would have upset you, I would not have posted it, so I apologize. Matt x”.
