After failing to find love with his boss on the BBC detective drama Beyond Paradise, PC Kelby Hartford, who is portrayed by Dylan Llewellyn, is considering dating apps.
Exclusive first look at Beyond Paradise’s fourth episode
A Beyond Paradise star is struggling in the new episode of the Death In Paradise spin-off. The fourth episode of the BBC detective drama airs this evening, as the team tackle a brand new case.
This week, DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) faces a dilemma as his wife-to-be Martha (Sally Bretton) becomes caught up in the case. On the final day of the local regatta, there is rivalry between young sailors Francine and Polly.
Although the pair’s daughters are former sailing rivals, Polly collides and plunges into the water while the pair is competing. When she is removed from the water, it is soon revealed that Polly’s smoothie was altered, and Martha is the only person who could have done it. This makes her even more vulnerable to being investigated for her involvement in the poisoning.
Elsewhere, PC Kelby Hartford is desperate to find love and has turned to dating apps in the hope. In a first look shared exclusively with The Mirror, Kelby admits he’s struggling with dating apps to his colleague Margo.
Speaking about his hope for romance, Dylan said of his character: “Kelby is on the dating apps now – he’s looking for love, his soulmate. He sees all these people around him in relationships and yearns for that kind of connection.
“But he’s definitely struggling with the dating world. It’s pretty funny because he messes up some conversations which shows just how nervous and panicked he gets. He turns to Margo for help navigating the apps and, while he stumbles at first, once he gets comfortable, I think he’ll find someone who’s lucky to have him.”
Kelby has evolved, especially in terms of his confidence, and it’s fun to watch him progress in that area. He’s always appreciated the praise of luminaries like Humphrey and Margo, but in this season, we really see him pushing himself to the limit. Whether it’s with the team or flying solo, he’s determined to handle the cases.
“Kelby’s growth is palpable; he’s growing more confident in himself and acting up, even in challenging circumstances. Although there are times when he takes the lead, I believe viewers should anticipate that. It’s been exciting to watch him develop into a more confident, independent character because of it.
