Basketball player, 20, dies after college game

Connors State College

A junior college basketball player died after an accident on Saturday in Texas.

Ethan Dietz, 20, was a student at Connors State College in Warner, Oklahoma, when he was injured playing for the Cowboys against Grayson College in Denison.

The 6′ 8″ (2.03m) forward’s school announced on Wednesday that he had passed away on Tuesday morning and was transported to a nearby Texas hospital.

He understood the value of hard work and was athletically and academically talented. You could tell that he was completely heartless if you ever saw him smile. He was a great team-mate and a person of character.

Dietz was a second-year Connors State student from Conway, Arkansas. He averaged 11 points and 9.4 rebounds in his first eight games for the Cowboys.

A campus vigil in honor of Dietz’s life was scheduled for Monday after the school had previously canceled several men’s and women’s basketball games.
