Barcelona’s Pedri Extends Contract To 2030
Joan Laporta, the club’s president, has been in the news for handling the Dani Olmo scandal, to receive a boost by signing Barcelona playmaker Pedri’s four-year contract extension to June 2030 on Thursday.
The 22-year-old Pedri filled the gap left by departed club legend Andres Iniesta, who has since been hailed as a great future hope at the age of 16.
Part of Spain’s European Championship-winning squad in 2024, Pedri penned the deal alongside Laporta and Barcelona sports director Deco, the club’s website reported.
After suffering a number of injuries over the past three campaigns, Pedri, who has only played one game this year for Barcelona, is “happy to renew” and “to be where I want to be most.”
“I haven’t felt this way in a long time. I’m enjoying football, which is what I love the most”.
He continued, “This Barca is made for me, so I have to repay that trust on the pitch, play as well as possible, and win titles,” he continued.
“We have a good team, a very young one, which in a few years will be even better”.
Since the league found that Laporta had failed to make time for Olmo and Pau Victor’s signings, the club has been under pressure at Barcelona. The pair currently holds a temporary playing license.
Barcelona, led by Hansi Flick, finished second in the 36-team Champions League on Wednesday, seven points clear of La Liga leader Real Madrid.
