Sevilla’s 4-1 victory over Barcelona on Sunday put an end to the champions’ unbeaten start to La Liga and prevent them from regaining their lead.
With 13 points from eight matches, the Andalusian club won its first league game against Barcelona since 2015 to move them up to sixth place in the standings. Real Madrid’s lead of two points, Barcelona, is still in second place.

“One of my happy days of life.” Jose Angel Carmona scored Sevilla’s third goal, saying, “We deserved to win from beginning to end.”
Sevilla began the match with long balls in the hopes of unleashing Alexis Sanchez, while Barcelona made a muted start and had no shots on target in the first 30 minutes.
After Isaac Romero fell while battling for a ball with Ronald Araujo near Barcelona’s six-yard box in the 13th minute, the referee gave Sevilla a penalty after looking at the VAR replay.
Wojciech Szczesny, a former Arsenal teammate, was sent the wrong way by Sanchez to convert the spot kick.
Romero saved Szczesny’s shot from inside the box to stop Sevilla from double their lead in the 27th minute.
However, Romero doubled Sevilla’s lead with a first-time finish from Ruben Vargas as he raced past Barcelona’s high defensive line to chase down a through ball in the box.
Barcelona’s late in extra time before the break saw Marcus Rashford smash Pedri’s lobbed pass into the net with his left foot at a tight angle.
Lewandowski misses the penalty
When Adnan Januzaj sent down Alejandro Balde in the box, Barcelona continued their momentum in the second half, but Robert Lewandowski fired wide from the penalty spot in the 76th minute.
In the 90th minute, Carmona shot through a defender’s legs to give Sevilla a point before the visitors’ chances of regaining it came to an end.
Akor Adams, a substitute for Akor Adams, scored from Chidera Ejuke’s pass to tie the score at 4-1 five minutes into extra time.
Barcelona midfielder Pedri described the situation as “we were never at our best,” “we couldn’t get the ball out of our half, we didn’t know what to do with it.”
“We need to make many improvements so that after the break, we can start winning games again.”
Sevilla will continue their league campaign after the international break against Mallorca on October 18, the same day that Barcelona host Girona.
