However, Melania appeared awkwardly apart from her husband as the couple walked side-by-side with Trump as they walked into the club. She omitted any gesture of affection and continued to walk side by side.
Elon Musk, Trump’s close friend, was present as well, who appeared to be smiling inside while carrying his mini-me son X AE A-Xii, who was dressed in a nearly identical suit to his father. Elon grinned as his son leaned onto his face to support him against the papal wailing.
Trump’s New Year’s Eve party came at an unfortunate time after losing an appeal against E Jean Carroll’s sexual abuse verdict, forcing him to pay the agony aunt millions in damages.
The journalist’s defamation and sexual abuse award was upheld by the second US Circuit Court of Appeals’ written opinion from yesterday. At a 2023 trial, the long-time magazine columnist claimed that Trump had morphed a casual conversation into a violent attack after they accidentally entered the dressing room of the store.
Trump ostensibly denied that the attack ever occurred, so he omitted the trial. But he briefly testified at a follow-up defamation trial earlier this year that resulted in an $83.3 million (£66.4 million) award. Following Carroll’s initial public admission of the accusations in a memoir, the second trial was the outcome of remarks made by then-President Trump in 2019.
A three-judge panel of the appeals court upheld Trump’s attorneys’ claims that trial judge Lewis Kaplan had made numerous decisions that ruined the trial, including permitting two additional women who had accused him of sexually abusing them to testify in its decision. The judge also had allowed the jury to view the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape in which Trump boasted in 2005 about grabbing women’s genitals because when someone is a star, “you can do anything”.
The 2nd Circuit ruled that “we don’t believe Mr. Trump has demonstrated that the district court erred in any of the challenged decisions.” “Further, he has not carried his burden to show that any claimed error or combination of claimed errors affected his substantial rights as required to warrant a new trial”.In September, both Carroll, 81, and Trump, 78, attended oral arguments by the 2nd Circuit.
A statement from a Trump spokesperson, Steven Cheung, stated that the electorate had given the president an “overwhelming mandate” and that they wanted the Democrats to stop using political weaponization and stop the Democrats from pursuing any appeals.
