Draper ready to carry post-Murray Wimbledon mantle

Jack Draper, the British men’s number one, says he can handle the task of leading the home country’s hopes at the first Wimbledon since Sir Andy Murray’s retirement.

Draper, who is currently ranked fourth in the world, has risen to the position of a genuine Wimbledon contender after a stunning increase over the past year.

When the grass-court Grand Slam begins on Monday, the left-handed Englishman will be the fourth seed.

Since Murray, the 2017 world number one and defending champion, no home player has been given a seed as high at the All England Club.

When Andy retired, Draper, who starts against Sebastian Baez from Argentina and must navigate a difficult path to the end, said, “I was the next in line.”

“I’ll keep trying my best to keep trying and improving, to promote my best tennis, and to hopefully present myself as the player and person I want to be.”

Andy has done a fantastic job of that, had incredible success, and won over the nation.

“There must be many, many shoes to fill,” it seems. That is something I am aware of. I’m optimistic about my ability to inspire others like Andy has done, but I’m also confident in myself.

In the men’s and women’s singles draws, Draper leads 23 British players overall, which is the highest total since 1984.

In a year, Draper has advanced to the semi-finals of the US Open, the prestigious Indian Wells title, and two more ATP Tour finals.

Draper will not be the first British player to win at Wimbledon, but he will be subject to more scrutiny given his ascendancy in the men’s game.

Draper claims he is aware of his ability to turn to Murray and Tim Henman, another former British top ten player who helped inspire the nation, for guidance when necessary.

Draper praised Andy for giving me “an amazing amount of feedback and advice over the years.”

He added that he dislikes interfering. He said that he is very reluctant to criticize me because he understands what it’s like to be in this position, as I reported earlier.

“I know Andy will be there for me whenever I need him.”

Raducanu doesn’t “anticipate much” at Wimbledon.

Many British eyes will be trained on Emma Raducanu’s development in addition to Draper.

The 22-year-old claims she “truthfully expects much” from herself over the next two weeks despite losing to New Zealand qualifier Lulu Sun in the final 16.

Raducanu claims she needed to “get her head in the game” for Wimbledon to begin after losing in Eastbourne earlier this week.

Raducanu reported having been dealing with ongoing back spasms and had received some “pretty bad” personal information that she wanted to keep private.

Raducanu, who is ranked 38th in the world, admitted that “I know I’ve just been dealing with certain things.”

“I just want to be present and enjoy the occasion.”

When Raducanu won the US Open as a qualifier, he first caught the attention of the British public when he led a breakout run to the Wimbledon final 16 as a teenager in 2021. Three months later, he stunned the world by donning the same name.

Mimi Xu, a 17-year-old British player who competed at Wimbledon just weeks after passing A-level exams, will play her on Monday. Xu is a similar player to Raducanu four years ago.

“I think it’s a very difficult and dangerous match,” Raducanu said.

“I believe Mimi has a lot of weapons and is a really, really good player.”

After igniting fan apprehension, Robbie Williams has finally confirmed that he will be performing at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival. The 51-year-old pop star appeared to have suggested that he might be one of the festival’s top performers this year.

Glastonbury is known for allowing renowned musicians to perform on stage without having their presence known. Actors and performers have even taken to the stage at the annual event to astonish the thousands of music fans who attend under fictitious names.

The Foo Fighters performed on the Pyramid Stage in 2023, outdoing their previous name, The Churnups, to surprise fans. While Lorde and Lewis Capaldi give performances for fans at the 2025 festival without having their names on the festival’s roster before.

On one of the stage on Saturday, a band called Patchwork is scheduled to play, but this is likely to be a major performer’s pseudonym. And Robbie’s potential as the star that everyone expects to perform on stage has been questioned by fans.

He teased fans by suggesting that he might play at the festival on Friday, sharing a photo of a plaque indicating his 1995 appearance there. The plaque read: “1995. Robbie Williams entered this field without being acquired, authorized, or in line with the accepted skepticism.

His presence was unwelcome, unofficial, and ultimately unavoidable. 30 years later, he shared the image via social media with a brief caption that read, “…

He also updated his profile photo to a throwback image of himself at the event wearing a red-and-white tracksuit and posted a photo of a fence with the message “Welcome to Glastonbury.”

Despite all the teasing, Rob confirmed he would not actually be performing over the weekend. He took to Instagram Stories to admit he would not take to the stage.

He wrote, “I’m not performing this year,” leaving some fans speechless. Go see The 1975, Busta Rhymes, Self Esteem, Charli XCX, and Reverend and the Makers if you are there.

One of the stars at the festival this year is Sir Rod Stewart, who previously expressed his excitement for the occasion. On Sunday, he will play the titleless teatime Legend’s Slot, which he isn’t overly excited about.

He told the BBC: “I just wish they wouldn’t call it the tea time slot. That sounds like pipe and slippers, doesn’t it?” However, he went on to tease fans what to expect when he takes to the stage.

There are still many songs we won’t be able to play because I typically work well over two hours, he said. But we’ve been putting in some effort.

“I won’t announce anything between songs,” I said. I’ll enter one number with the shout “next,” and then proceed to the next one. I’ll try to get as many songs as possible.

The singer claimed that he typically plays for more than two hours while on tour and that Glastonbury organizers initially only gave him 75 minutes of his time, but he was able to extend this to 90 minutes.

Jade Thirlwall gives middle finger to Reform UK as she cries on Glastonbury debut

Fans were blown away by JADE’s performance at Glastonbury this afternoon, where she used her platform to promote Reform UK.

Glastonbury Festival goers were left in awe by Jade Thirlwall, who used her performance to boldly express her disdain for Reform UK. The Little Mix star took to the Woodsies stage on Saturday where she delivered a rousing rendition of her hit FUFN.

A segment in which JADE compiles a list of things she wants to give the middle finger includes an acronym for “F*** you for now.” She chanted, “Reform! Reform! Transphobia ! shedding arms! The crowd resoundingly “F**** you!” as the crowd “genocide”!

Introduced by Doctor Who actor Ncuti Gatwa, the former Little Mix member became visibly emotional while introducing her top ten hit Angel of My Dreams.

She cried out to the audience, “Angel of My Dreams is literally me as a song, so thank you for showing me that that’s enough.” The lyrics to “selling my soul to a SYCO, they say I’m so lucky” are revealed in Angel of my Dreams, which explores the heights and lows of JADE’s 15-year career.

For their first five albums, JADE was formally a part of Little Mix under the name SYCO, Simon Cowell’s record label. JADE also took a moment to pay tribute to her Little Mix bandmates while wearing a large fur hat, green jeans, and a white T-shirt with the word “GLASTO.”

She stated, “I can’t begin to express how thankful I am to those girls for literally altering my life.” Who would have imagined, eh?

“That we’d have a Little Mix girlie up here on the Glastonbury stage. ” The performance was a hit, with one attendee posting: “she killed it! I love that the crowd knew her songs and that she mentioned Little Mix too”, reports Somerset Live

Jade is the biggest mixer ever, according to another fan, and I adore it. Some fans questioned Little Mix’s inability to perform at Glastonbury’s stages, saying, “The fact that Little Mix never got to perform at Glastonbury is a CRIME.

“I know JADE will give it her all for all three of them today,” he said. A gratified fan wrote, “JADE’s #Glastonbury set was utterly fantastic.” I can’t express how amazing that has made her feel.

Another gushed, “That #Glastonbury set from JADE is the kind that makes you go… yup, Pyramid stage soon.” Her political activism was also applauded for making “JADE screaming” FU’s justification for genocide “to a sell-out crowd at Glastonbury” one of the many reasons she is my absolute favorite.

It was noted as charming that Jade’s long-term partner, Jordan Stephens, also performed at the festival. On Friday, June 27, Jordan, who is also known as one of the Rizzle Kicks, invited his mother to accompany him onstage.

The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue gives emotional tribute to late bandmate at Glastonbury

The Script and their fans were devastated in 2023 when guitarist Mark Sheehan suddenly passed away following a short illness – leaving behind his wife and three kids

The Script star Danny O’Donoghue made an emotional tribute to late guitarist Mark Sheehan while performing at Glastonbury on Saturday. The Irish band were formed in 2001 with Danny and Mark joined by fellow original members Glen Power and Benjamin Sargeant – who play drums and bass.

The band was left heartbroken in April 2023 when Mark died at the age of 46 following a brief illness. Taking to the stage at Glastonbury, Danny took a moment to pay tribute to his late friend.

After performing The Man Who Can’t Be Move, the 44-year-old singer took a seat on the edge of the stage and told the audience how much he missed his friend. He shared: “There’s one person I really wish was here to see this.

“He was on the stage 17 years ago. We lost my best mate and the founding member of The Script Mark Sheehan, we lost him nearly a year and a half ago.

“I just want to thank every single person here for keeping us going, for all your thoughts and all your prayers, thank you so much.” The touching words provoked a chorus of cheers from the audience, spurring Danny and the band onwards.

He added: “I know he’s having a whiskey right now looking down on us. With that I’m gonna dedicate this song to him, this song is called If You Could See Me Now.”

Fans of The Script were shocked by the sudden passing of Mark in 2023 – with the guitarist playing with the group from its creation until his shock passing. His death was announced in a social media post shared via Facebook.

The statement said: “Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.”

Mark had moved to America where he lived with his wife, Rina, and their three children. He died on 14 April 2023.

The Script were just one of the many acts performing for excited music fans at Glastonbury during the 2025 festival. Sir Rod Stewart has previously explained how thrilled he is to be headlining one of the stages on Sunday.

He told the BBC: “I just wish they wouldn’t call it the tea time slot. That sounds like pipe and slippers, doesn’t it?” However, he went on to tease fans what to expect when he takes to the stage.

He said: “Usually I do well over two hours so there’s still a load of songs we won’t be able to do. But we’ve been working at it.

“I’m not gonna make any announcements between songs. I’ll do one number, shout ‘next’, and go straight into the next one. I’m going to get in as many songs I can.”

The singer explained that he usually plays for over two hours when he is on tour and that Glastonbury organisers initially offered him only 75 minutes for his slot – but he was able to negotiate this up to 90 minutes instead.

Wimbledon my best chance to win 25th Slam – Djokovic

Novak Djokovic believes Wimbledon gives him the best chance of disrupting the dominance of his younger rivals and finally landing an outright record 25th Grand Slam title.

Djokovic has not won any of the tennis majors since triumphing at the US Open in September 2023, with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz splitting the six Grand Slam titles in that time.

The 38-year-old Serb is bidding for what would also be a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon men’s title, moving him level with his long-time rival Roger Federer.

Djokovic, who plays France’s Alexandre Muller in the first round, has lost each of the past two Wimbledon finals to Alcaraz.

Asked about claiming the 25th major that would take him clear of Australia’s Margaret Court, he said: “I would probably agree that Wimbledon could be the best chance.

“That’s because of the results I have had, because of how I feel and how I play in Wimbledon.

Italy’s Sinner, 23, and Spain’s Alcaraz, 22, have emerged as the dominant pair on the ATP Tour in what has been a changing of the guard over the past two seasons.

Djokovic’s 2025 season has been patchy by his lofty standards, but he continues to be a threat at the business end of the Grand Slams.

He has continued to defy age – and logic – by producing some extraordinary performances, particularly when he beat Alcaraz in a memorable Australian Open quarter-final in January.

At last month’s French Open, he lost to Sinner in straight sets in their semi-final, but the way he pushed the world number one throughout showed how much he still offers at the top of the game.

Djokovic, who is seeded sixth at the All England Club, says chasing the younger rivals has not changed his mentality.

“In a sense you’re always hunting because you’re always going for the titles – in my also privileged position – the records and more history,” said Djokovic.

“I do feel that I’m always in that position of going for something with the attitude of trying to win rather than trying to defend.

“It is slightly different for me now in terms of I don’t chase the rankings any more.

Pakistan slams climate ‘injustice’ as deadly floods hit country again

The country’s climate change minister criticized the “crisis of injustice” facing the country and the “lopsided allocation” of funding as more damage, destruction, and loss of life are caused by recent flash flooding and heavy rains.

Since the start of the monsoon season, at least 32 people have died in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, according to officials in Pakistan.

At least 32 people were also killed last month in a nation that has reported severe weather events in the spring, including strong hailstorms.

According to data from 2022, Pakistan was at the top of the list of the most affected nations according to the Climate Rate Index report from 2025. Then, due to extensive flooding, 33 million people were affected, including more than 1,700, and suffered $ 14. 8 billion in damages as well as $ 15.2 billion in economic losses.

More than 600 people died as a result of a heatwave and thousands of more floods were affected by the heatwave last year.

I don’t see this as a climate crisis. According to Pakistan’s climate change minister, Musadiq Malik, “I view this as a crisis of justice and this lopsided allocation that we are discussing.” I don’t see this disparate allocation of green funding as a funding gap. It reflects a moral gap, in my opinion.

funding issue

A former head of the nation’s central bank earlier this year claimed that Pakistan needed to invest $40 to $50 billion annually until 2050 to address its looming climate change challenges despite having a share of the world’s CO2 emissions of about 50%.

Around $10 billion in pledges from multilateral financial institutions and nations were reported in January 2023. Pakistan received $2.8 billion from international creditors as a result of those pledges the following year.

Pakistan will receive $1.3 billion under a new, 28-month loan program, according to the International Monetary Fund earlier this year. Given the predicament Pakistan is currently in, Malik claimed that those pledges and loans were insufficient.

The United States of America and China contribute to 44% of global carbon emissions. People are aware of the fact that almost 70% of the world’s top 10 nations account for almost 70% of the carbon burden. However, the same 10 countries receive 85 percent of the world’s green funding, while the rest of the world, which includes some 180-plus nations, receives 10 to 15 percent.

Through these unpredictable climate changes, floods, and agricultural devastation, we are paying for it.

The climate change ministry and the Italian research institute EvK2CNR conducted a study last year that found that Pakistan has more than 13 000 glaciers.

However, those glaciers are also being forced to melt by the temperature increase, increasing the risk of flooding, property loss, property loss, and water shortages.

Flooding caused by glacier melt [in Sindh province] wiped out thousands of years of civilization, in addition to land and life. Everything washed away, including the mosques, temples, schools, hospitals, historic structures, and monuments.

Add to that the report noted that infant mortality is high, as well as the lack of access to safe drinking water, access to hospitals and clinics, and access to education.

In a report released last month, Amnesty International claimed that “Pakistan’s healthcare and disaster response systems are failing to serve the needs of the elderly and children who are most vulnerable to death and disease as a result of extreme weather events related to climate change.”

According to Laura Mills, a researcher with Amnesty International’s Crisis Response Programme, “children and older people in Pakistan are suffering on the front lines of the climate crisis because they are exposed to extreme heat or floods that cause disproportionately high rates of death and disease.”
