Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz recovered from two sets down – saving three championship points on the way – to beat Jannik Sinner in an incredible French Open men’s singles final.

Alcaraz’s reign on the Roland Garros clay looked to be over when world number one Sinner closed in on victory at 5-3 in the fourth set.

But the 22-year-old Spaniard showed extraordinary fight to win 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (10-2) after five hours and 29 minutes – the longest French Open final in history.

In an electrifying atmosphere on Court Philippe Chatrier, Alcaraz produced the finest performance of his career to claim a fifth major title.

The world number two had never previously won a match after losing the opening two sets.

Alcaraz is the first man to win a Grand Slam title after saving match point since Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in the 2019 Wimbledon final.

Sinner, who was bidding for his maiden Roland Garros triumph, was denied his third successive major after a gruelling, gritty and glorious encounter.

“It’s easier to play than talk now,” said the 23-year-old, who was playing in only his second tournament since returning from a three-month ban for failing two doping tests.

How all-time epic lived up to the hype

The first Grand Slam showpiece between the two dominant players on the ATP Tour had been a tantalising prospect – and it surpassed the hype.

Both pushed themselves – and each other to the limit – in a classic contest who showcased all of their shot-making, athleticism and resilience.

The majority of the 15,000 fans were jumping to their feet after every point in a thrilling finale, where both players continued to execute top-quality shots that often defied belief.

Alcaraz flew out of the blocks in the first-to-10 match tie-break of the fifth set, sapping every last bit of energy of Sinner before sealing victory with a whipped forehand winner down the line.

He fell flat on his back before Sinner trudged around the net for a warm, heartfelt embrace.

Alcaraz somehow found the energy to sprint off court, climbing up the stands to celebrate with his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, the rest of his team and family members including his parents.

Anderson stars but Northants stay unbeaten in Blast

Rex Features

James Anderson delivered a second three-wicket haul of his T20 Blast return for Lancashire but it was not enough to stop Northants Steelbacks making it five wins from five to tighten their grip on the top of North Group.

The veteran seamer’s 3-31 at a blustery Old Trafford backed up his 3-17 against Durham at Chester-le-Street.

But the 42-year-old’s sterling efforts could not prevent the Steelbacks totalling 180-6 before restricting Lancashire to 156-9 in reply.

Liam Livingstone’s return to Lightning colours following his Indian Premier League (IPL) victory with Royal Challengers Bangalore saw him take 2-35 and add 18 with the bat as Northants always had the game under their control.

George Scrimshaw was the pick of their bowlers with an impressive 4-19.

North Group – Malan fireworks & Ali hat-trick

Yorkshire climbed off the bottom of the North Group table after posting a first victory of their T20 Blast campaign, beating Leicestershire Foxes by a thumping margin of 106 runs.

Dawid Malan (88 from 48 balls) and Will Luxton (62 from 34) put on 132 for the second wicket and, despite a mini-collapse which saw five wickets go for 31 runs, Yorkshire posted a towering total of 213-7 in their 20 overs.

Former England batter Malan passed 10,000 T20 runs in the process.

The Foxes were never really in the hunt with spin doing the damage, Jafer Chohan taking 4-27 and Dom Bess 2-25.

Derbyshire remain without a win after Bears inflicted a fourth defeat, winning by 58 runs at Edgbaston with Hassan Ali taking 6-23 including a hat-trick.

A half-century from New Zealand opener Tom Latham (58 from 42 balls) helped put Bears in a commanding position at the halfway mark after posting 199-6.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice marked his Derbyshire return with a wicket after signing a four-match loan deal from Sussex and Pat Brown was the pick with the ball for the visitors with 3-40.

But both ended on the losing side as a chase of 200 proved beyond them after a disastrous start which saw them 1-2 after the first seven deliveries and they were bowled out for 141.

South Group – Spitfires overpower Hampshire Hawks

England opener Zak Crawley starred as Hampshire Hawks had their winning streak brought to an abrupt halt at the hands of Kent Spitfires who chased down a target of 178 to win by eight wickets.

Tom Rogers (3-33) gave Kent a lightning start with the ball helping to reduce Hampshire to 29-3 but Joe Weatherley’s 63 from 46 balls and contributions lower down the order from Dewald Brevis (24), James Fuller (27) and Benny Howell (23) helped the visitors to 177-7.

But after Daniel Bell-Drummond (61) and Kent skipper Crawley (75 not out from 43 balls) shared a superb 110-run partnership for the second wicket, those defences were never enough.

Tom Helm has 10 wickets in the Blast this seasonRex Features

Tom Helm continued his remarkably consistent Blast campaign as Middlesex finally got their South Group campaign off the ground with a six-wicket win over Essex at Chelmsford.

The Middlesex seamer posted 4-32 from his four overs as the home side were restricted to 156-9, Simon Harmer’s 28-ball 41 lifting them after a disappointing batting display.

Helm’s contribution followed up his 3-29 and 3-29 in his previous two games against Kent and Glamorgan.

The result was never in much doubt after Middlesex skipper Stephen Eskinazi (72) and Kane Williamson (31) put on 97 for the first wicket.

At Hove James Coles continued his outstanding form with the bat and Nathan McAndrew dismantled Glamorgan with the ball as Sussex Sharks downed the Welsh side.

Coles is averaging 98 in the Blast after four innings and his innings of 75 not out was the high point of an excellent display from the hosts with the bat.

Tom Alsop also reached a half-century in 27 balls with five sixes as Sussex posted 195-4.

McAndrew then set about Glamorgan with the ball taking 5-19 in his four overs as Sussex won by 78 runs.

Victory was secured with two wickets in two balls for Tymal Mills as the Sussex captain became the fifth player to reach 300 T20 wickets.

Chris Hughes’ four-word message for JoJo Siwa as they kiss to celebrate special day

Celebrity Big Brother couple Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa still look to be going strong as they gushed about each other in their latest loved-up video

Chris Hughes’ romance with Celebrity Big brother star JoJo Siwa is hotting up even more – as the former Love Island star told her: “You blow my mind every day.” The 32-year-old made the declaration in a video posted to 22-year-old’s JoJo’s Instagram stories.

As she shouted out various pals to mark ‘National Best Friend’s Day’, she ended with a clip of her and new boyfriend Chris and captioned the post: “My bestest friend of em all” followed by a white love heart emoji.

As JoJo shared more loved up snaps of her and Chris, the pair were seen kissing and cuddling. It comes just a day after JoJo posted a series of snaps from their couples’ getaway to the Cotswolds as the pair reunited in the UK to spend some time with Chris’ family.

The pair were seen messing around visiting horses, with one shot showing Chris pick up JoJo and carry her over his shoulder. In another, the pair sweetly held hands. The duo were also seen enjoying cooked breakfasts, sweet treats and dinners as they continued their blossoming relationship. JoJo captioned the post: “Nothing beats wholesome and pure days like these.”

The Dance Moms star captioned each of her 11 images on her Instagram upload, explaining how the occasion was the first time she had touched a horse since being thrown off one eight years ago during filming. On one snap of Chris riding a horse, she wrote: “Gorgeous boy riding a gorgeous horse.”

Revealing how the trip had helped her get over her fear of horses, JoJo said: “I’ve been scared to be around them haha. Loved this though after I warmed up.”

In her final picture, JoJo zoomed in on the couple holding each other’s hand. She adorably wrote: “The one thing that can make everything better,” alongside a white heart emoji.

Chris’ brother Ben was among those sharing sweet responses to the photo dump in the comments section – and it seems JoJo is a hit with Chris’ family. He joked: “Can I take credit for the full English breakfast?? Miss you already!!!”

Showing how serious things are getting between them, JoJo recently revealed how she wants to get matching tattoos with Chris as she wants their romance to “last for a lifetime”.

What started as a close friendship between the pair started to raise eyebrows as the duo got up close and personal on this year’s Celebrity Big Brother, frequently kissing on the cheek and even cuddling in the same bed – and JoJo has now confirmed the pair are officially more than friends.

Speaking on the Rosebud podcast with Gyles Brandreth, JoJo gushed about what initially drew her to Chris, saying: “When he first walked in, he was the only person that I knew what they looked like before coming into the show. I was, ‘Oh that’s the Chris guy’. Initially the first thing that I took in about him was he was a good hugger. I liked his hug. That felt like a nice embrace. And he smelt good.”

Explaining how their feelings naturally deepened over time, she shared: “We just kind of bonded right away and it started very much so as friends. I wasn’t looking to fall for him. He wasn’t looking to fall for me. We just were having so much fun together.” She even admitted she is considering moving to the UK permanently to be with Chris. “I want Chris to last for a lifetime,” she gushed.

Revealing her ‘Chris tattoo’ plans, JoJo added: “The Chris tattoo, I said in Big Brother, that I would get this bamboo stick… and I want to get two other tattoos from the Big Brother house of memories that I have from in there.”

While it’s seen as unlucky to get a tattoo of a new partner in case the relationship goes wrong and you are stuck with a daily reminder of them, JoJo is hoping to bypass any consequences by making sure the tattoo is primarily a reminder of her Celeb Big Brother experience.

Some fans have questioned whether the relationship is just a PR stunt, but JoJo recently shut those rumours down, telling The Guardian: “It’s not platonic any more… I’m absolutely head over heels for him, and he’s the same way. Clearly, [the trolls have] never been around us. The happiness in my life just radiates off of me right now.”

BBC star Scott Mills’ big revelation about his finances after bagging £450k Radio 2 job

Radio DJ Scott Mills revealed he has ‘made it’ after he took over the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show after previously ‘risking’ his health from working too much over two decades

Scott Mills has revealed he is finally ‘financially secure’ and has ‘made it’ after he took over the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show after Zoe Ball left the post. Scott, 51, took over the position in January from Zoe, who left to focus on her family.

Opening up about his career and his new ability to say ‘no’ to work, after missing sleep for jobs, Scott told The Telegraph: “For the first time, I really do believe in myself. You have to look at the facts. They’ve put you on the breakfast show, you must be doing something right.”

It comes after he admitted to taking on ‘too much’ work, sometimes at a ‘risk’ to his own health. Reflecting on his jam-packed career, Scott said: “I was working way too much, because my mindset was that you don’t know when it might end. There was one freshers’ week where my schedule for playing in student unions was: Monday: Aberdeen, Tuesday: Glasgow, Wednesday: Edinburgh.”

While Scott said he ‘enjoyed’ taking every opportunity he got for two decades, ‘life is different now’ and he ‘doesn’t want to’ do that anymore. Last month, Scott opened up to the Mirror about the hard work that goes into the show and that Zoe gave him a warning when he took over the job, but he still describes it as his ‘happy place’.

He said: “The show is a lot, it’s hard work. It’s a treadmill every day. I remember when Zoe finished, she said to me: ‘Look, doing breakfast on Radio 2 is quite a lot. It’s quite demanding, and you’ve just always got to be on.”

He added: “She was right. The amount of guests we have – it’s continuous. When she said it to me, I was like: ‘I’m ready’. And I am, it’s my happy place.”

The Mail previously reported that Scott took a small pay rise for presenting the show, however, it was significantly less than his predecessor, Zoe. While it is reported that Scott is earning approximately £450,000 a year, Zoe was reportedly on £950,000.

Zoe confirmed her departure from the early morning slot back in November, telling listeners it was ‘time to start a new chapter’ before she left in January. However, that wasn’t the end of her journey on the radio.

On air, she told her listeners: “After six years of fun times alongside you all on the Breakfast Show, I’ve decided it’s time to step away from the early alarm call and start a new chapter”. She added: “I just want to say I’m so grateful to my incredible boss ladies… they have always been so supportive of me, especially in this job and particularly this year.”

Just months after her final Breakfast Show, Zoe has already returned to the Radio 2 line-up with a brand new Saturday afternoon show. The new programme launched on May 3 and will continue to air weekly.

According to Radio 2 bosses, it will deliver “the best songs and chat for a Saturday”. Zoe herself says listeners can expect “lots of laughs” and upbeat favourites.

Miley Cyrus fans fume after singer ‘bullied’ into singing at movie premiere

Miley Cyrus’ new movie, Something Beautiful, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, but some fans were not pleased with the event as they were expecting a concert

Miley Cyrus graced the Tribeca Film Festival with her presence, but the event didn’t quite hit the right note with some fans. At the premiere of Something Beautiful, set for a one-day cinematic release on June 12, Miley took to the stage for a Q&A session.

However, some fans in the audience felt duped, with one shouting out, “We thought this was a concert,” and revealing a hefty price tag: “We paid $800.”

The songstress tried to stay focused amidst the commotion, even as another attendee questioned: “Are you actually going to sing?” Eventually, she gave in, delivering an impromptu rendition of The Climb while remaining seated.

Miley turned heads in a stunning netted dress adorned with spaghetti straps and a daring neckline, topped off with a luxurious cream fur shawl that swept the floor. Her hair styled in flowing waves and her makeup fully on point, she certainly looked the part.

Online reactions to the disruptions were critical, with one user on X, previously known as Twitter, commenting: “Oh this is not it those people should have been removed. Poor Miley a concert is cool but getting to hear your fav talk about the creative process is such a gift? ? ? ? ?”, reports the Mirror US.

Another chimed in with a dose of sarcasm: “The girl who spent her rent on this and felt scammed, what was her plan exactly? Assuming this was indeed a concert, will she be in the comments like ‘THE BEST NIGHT EVER, so worth being homeless for!’. As if it wasn’t stupid enough to put in $800 without doing any research.

“These people are so trashy omg… it’s a FILM festival, with a FILM premiering, and a CONVERSATION with Miley afterwards… at no point was it advertised as anything else,” vented one fan. Another chimed in, “Pandemic ruined peoples manners or something. No common sense. No idea what they’re buying.”

And another gasped: “What they did to Miley Cyrus at the TriBeCa Film Festival was absolutely disgusting. Grown adults bullying & harassing her like that and nobody cared to stop it.”

Miley took to Instagram following the event and was once again backed by online users. She shared a reel of images and wrote: “Sending you all of my love, to show how much I appreciate sharing the experience of releasing my visual album @tribeca together xo tonight truly was Something Beautiful. Thank you.”

Fans in the comments section apologised for the actions of those in the crowd, with one telling the star: “You were amazing. Also, you didn’t deserve that kind of treatment. You managed all of the situation with gentleness and kindness like you always do. Proud of you!”

The artist has been on a significant promotional drive since her latest album dropped. During a recent album signing, she cheekily took a dig at her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.

As she autographed a record for a fan named Liam, she quipped that he was the “best” Liam. Since their split, Miley has found fresh romance with musician and drummer Maxx Morando.

The pair have been together since 2021 and he even contributed to her latest album. On the other hand, Hemsworth has been romantically linked with model Gabriella Brooks since 2019.

Five years post their brief marriage, Miley has not only excelled in her music career but also thrived personally. In an open conversation with Zane Lowe, she discussed her journey towards sobriety and its profound impact on her life and relationships.
