Chris Martin appeared to give a shout-out to his ex Dakota Johnson on Friday night, as he closed Coldplay’s Las Vegas show. The 48-year-old singer has reportedly split with his partner of eight years, actress Dakota Johnson, 35.

Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota is said to be “devastated” by the split, although sources have suggested it was a long-time coming. But ever the amiable ex, Chris made sure he showed support for his supposed former partner’s new movie.

He was closing the Allegiant Stadium gig, addressing the audience to say: “Thank you so much everybody.” He added: “Be kind to yourself, be kind to each other. Don’t forget to see Materialists! We love you!”

Materialists is Dakota’s upcoming rom-com, set for release in August. She plays protagonist Lucy, a young, ambitious New York City matchmaker, who finds herself unable to choose between her ‘perfect match’ and her imperfect ex.

But off the big screen, Dakota’s love life has been just as challenging, with the actress’ rep forced to deny break-up rumours back in August 2024. On Monday June 2, Dakota was seen out in New York without her engagement ring.

But fans have been getting mixed messages, with Dakota and Chris last photographed out together on May 16, in Malibu, California. Before that, when Coldplay were on tour in India, they were spotted holding hands.

Neither Dakota nor Chris has confirmed or spoken on the reports yet. But a source has claimed that the rumoured split has hit Dakota hard. Speaking to the Sun, a source revealed: “Dakota wanted this relationship to work.

“She not only loves Chris, but his two kids, and that loss feels incredibly painful. The decision to end things was amicable, but Dakota is finding it hard. Over the past year, it became clear that their relationship had stalled and wasn’t moving forwards.”

As Coldplay continue their world tour, Dakota has been working on shoots for Materialists, as well as her other film Verity. The latter is set for release in 2026, and is an adaptation of It Ends With Us author Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name.

The source added: “Settling down, as in Chris properly taking his foot off the pedal, isn’t going to happen. And, ultimately, it was one of the many straws that broke the back of them.”

Although they have had to shut down split rumours before, the Mail reports that this time, it’s the end. An insider told the paper: “They just haven’t been able to figure out to make it official. Dakota held a flame for them to be together because she loved him so much and loved his kids so much.

“Breakups aren’t instant and they continued to breakup and makeup and sometimes things would work when they were away from each other, while they were working because absence makes the heart grow fonder, but then they’d get back together and little things just kept adding up to where they weren’t right for each other anymore… Dakota is devastated that she isn’t going to be around his kids as much anymore, but wants them to know that she is always there for them.”

Chris shares those two children with ex Gwyneth Paltrow, whom he married in December 2003. They divorced in 2016, a split Gwyneth described as “conscious uncoupling”. Gwyneth, 52, has since gone on to marry writer and producer Brad Falchuk, who she met on the set of Glee when she had a recurring guest role in the musical.

Democrats wooing Musk after the Trump breakup is US plutocracy at its best

It’s official: United States President Donald Trump and the world’s richest person, Elon Musk, have broken up.

At the end of last month, Musk departed from his post as the head of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he oversaw the mass firing of federal employees and dismantling of various government agencies – all the while benefitting from his own companies’ lucrative contracts with the government.

Anyway, US “democracy” has never met a conflict of interest it didn’t like.

Musk’s service at the White House initially appeared to end on an amicable note as Trump praised him for the “colossal change” he had achieved “in the old ways of doing business in Washington”. The former head of DOGE in turn thanked the president for the opportunity.

But soon after his departure, Musk publicly criticised the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”, a tax and spending bill that Trump is currently obsessed with passing, slamming it as a “disgusting abomination”.

There ensued predictably dramatic social media exchanges between the two right-wing billionaires with Trump pronouncing Musk “so depressed and so heartbroken” after leaving the White House and offering the additional coherent analysis:

“ It’s sort of Trump derangement syndrome. We have it with others, too. They leave, and they wake up in the morning, and the glamour’s gone. The whole world is different, and they become hostile.”

Musk has repeatedly taken credit for Trump’s 2024 election victory on account of the gobs of money he donated to the president’s campaign and those of other Republican candidates. Now that the relationship is over, Trump has wasted no time in warning Musk that he’ll face “very serious consequences” if he chooses to fund Democratic campaigns in the future.

But some Democratic ears, at least, have perked up at the possibility of getting the planet’s richest person back on their side – which he abandoned in favour of Trump after having extended support to Democratic former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden. The political switcheroo was hardly extreme. At the end of the day, ideology matters little when you’re just in the business of buying power.

California Congressman Ro Khanna, for example, recently opined that Democrats should “be in a dialogue” with Musk in light of their shared opposition to Trump’s big beautiful bill.

As per Khanna’s view, “we should ultimately be trying to convince [Musk] that the Democratic Party has more of the values that he agrees with.” He went on to list a few of these alleged values: “A commitment to science funding, a commitment to clean technology, a commitment to seeing international students like him.”

Never mind that Musk’s main “value” is a commitment to controlling as much of the earth – not to mention the whole solar system – as he possibly can for the benefit of himself and himself alone. Beyond his mass firing activities while head of DOGE, a brief review of Musk’s entrepreneurial track record reveals a total lack of the “values” that Democrats purport to espouse.

Over recent years, reports have abounded of sexual harassment and acute racism at Musk’s Tesla car factories. In October 2021, a federal jury in San Francisco ordered Tesla to pay $137m to a Black former employee who claimed he was told to “go back to Africa” among other abuses suffered at his workplace.

Along with violating federal labour laws, Musk as chief executive of Tesla threatened workers over the prospect of unionisation. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, he violated local regulations to keep his factories up and running, underscoring a general contempt for human life that, again, should not be a “value” that anyone aspires to.

To be sure, not all Democrats are on board with the proposal to woo Musk back into the Democratic camp – but he may be getting a growing cheering squad. In addition to Khanna’s advocacy on his behalf, New York Democratic Congressman Ritchie Torres seems prepared to give Musk his vote as well: “I’m a believer in redemption, and he is telling the truth about the [big beautiful] legislation.”

Anthony Scaramucci, Trump’s former White House director of communications, has, meanwhile, suggested that Democrats could “bring Elon Musk back into the fold as a prodigal son” by foregoing more left-wing policies – as if there’s anything truly left-wing about the Democratic Party in the first place.

Newsweek’s write-up of Scaramucci’s comments observed that “It would be a coup for Democrats if they could court the influence of the world’s richest man once more.” It would not, obviously, be a coup for democracy, which is supposed to be rule by the people and not by money.

And yet a longstanding bipartisan commitment to plutocracy means the US has never been in danger of true democracy. Instead, billions upon billions of dollars are spent to sustain an electoral charade and ensure that capital remains concentrated in the hands of the few – while Americans continue to literally die of poverty.

Now it remains to be seen whether the Trump-Musk breakup will drive Democrats into Musk’s arms. But either way, the country’s plutocratic values remain rock solid – and that is nothing less than a “disgusting abomination”.

Molly-Mae Hague reacts to Love Island audition tape and first time meeting Tommy Fury

The next series of Love Island is due to begin on Monday night with host Maya Jama and the helm and plenty of new singles ready to find love

Molly-Mae Hague has reacted to her Love Island audition tape and first time meeting Tommy Fury. The mum-of-one shared a vlog to her popular YouTube channel where she shared a video of herself watching her audition tape in a bid to enter the villa.

She starts the clip by laughing at the camera while her audition tape plays in the background. The previous Molly-Mae in the tape talks about how a ex told her she was “too much to handle” before they split up but then Molly looks at the camera in her vlog and says “what am I actually talking about” as it seems she’s struggling to recall the moment.

Molly previously said that she gave herself “the ick” watching her audition tape back. She explained to her fans: “Basically Fran [her manager] got an email a few weeks ago saying that they were doing a 10 years of Love Island programme to celebrate the 10-year anniversary.

“They said that my audition tape is going to be shown and Fran was like ‘Is there anyway we could see the audition tape before it gets put on TV considering Molly hasn’t seen this in coming up to seven years?’

“I’ve never actually seen it, because it obviously it was filmed and I never got to see it, I actually forgot that even one existed to be honest.

“And it’s about to be on TV in a minute and I have literally zero idea what to expect, because I’ve never seen it before and I’m actually really scared as to what I’m going to say, what I’m going to ever look like, or sound like.

“Maybe they might not show mine, but I think they will because Fran got told they definitely are going to and they said we can’t show you a sneak peek.”

The vlog then skips to Tommy, who hasn’t been on her YouTube channel for months due to their split. However it looks like he’s back as they pair recently confirmed that they are once again an item.

Molly shows fans that she’s watching old episodes of Love Island which includes the moment when Tommy and Molly first met. Tommy giggles as he says “the wanderer returns” before Molly explains they are reminiscing on how they met.

Tommy says: “Do you know what it is? Genuinely, I miss that place. I do miss it because you had no worries in there. You didn’t have a phone, which you know I love. You had your own little clique in there, you got on with people, it was good wasn’t it.”

Molly and Tommy recently confirmed that they are back together after taking months apart due to his struggles with alcohol. The iconic couple split up last year as a result of the boxer’s issues with alcohol which was revealed on Molly’s documentary Molly-Mae: Behind It All.

However, it seems that the couple couldn’t stay apart and are now giving things another go. The two of them share their daughter Bambi together.

Love Island returns Monday, June 9 at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
