Olivia Rodrigo’s fans were left stunned by the songstress’ surprise guest at her BST gig in Hyde Park. The show came before her hugely anticipated Glastonbury Festival appearance, where she will close this year’s epic event.

And while her fans were left in awe with a brilliant performance of some of her biggest hits and catchy tunes, it was her special guest that got fans feeling gobsmacked. On a sunny day in London, the Drivers License singer welcomed Ed Sheeran to the stage.

The 22-year-old American brought ginger-haired Ed to the stage for a rendition of his early hit, The A Team, while wearing a black sequinned leotard for the show. From the side of the stage, he had been watching Olivia wow the audience.

But Olivia surprised attendees at the end of the show when she described him as “one of the greatest songwriters of all time” as he patiently waited. The Azizam singer has performed at other people’s shows before, far from the norm.

He has previously surprised fans at concerts of Limp Bizkit, Stormzy and Taylor Swift to name a few. And taking to Instagram following his latest surprise, he said: “Been a fan of Olivia’s since Drivers License blew my mind back at the start of 2021. Both albums are no skips for me. I’m a proper fan.”

He continued, “Was going to watch the show anyway, but she approached me and requested that she sing The A Team with her,” which generated such a buzz.

To be playing it to new fans with one of the brightest stars of the next generation is an honor and privilege since that song turns 15 this year, and I can recall playing it to rooms with no one in it in 2010…

Although Lewis Capaldi’s surprise return to the stage was the show’s mainstay on Friday, The 1975 won the show.

The crowd for the 1975’s headline set at Glastonbury has been described as “surprisingly sparse” by one festivalgoer this evening. The rock band, which is fronted by singer Matty Healy, were on the main stage at the music festival.

The 1975, consisting of Matty, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald and George Daniel, took to the Pyramid Stage for their set. The band are the first headline act of the weekend, with Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo headlining at Worthy Farm in Somerset on Saturday and Sunday night respectively.

A source at the festival told the Mirror that the crowd was “surprisingly sparse” for the 1975’s headline set though. They said that the audiences were bigger for Lewis Capaldi and CMAT, who performed on the stage earlier in the day. Some people were heard saying the band wasn’t their vibe before moving away from the stage.

Matty, 36, and his bandmates opened their set tonight with their song Happiness. The the Brit Award winning band’s setlist for Glastonbury later included singles like Chocolate, as well as other tracks such as Love Me and Paris.

Someone wrote: “The 1975 your smashing it as always. Great band live. Wish I was at Glastonbury.” Whilst another fan reacted after the performance: “The 1975 were incredible, amazing set, loved it alot!”

Not everyone was impressed with the set though. One person instead reacted: “The 1975 must be one of the most boring bands to headline Glasto in a long time.” Someone else said: “Seriously what’s all this hype about the 1975?”

Sharing their thoughts on the platform, another viewer commented during the headline set: “Absolute garbage from the 1975.” Whilst one person said: “I just don’t get The 1975.”

Another wrote: “That lead fella from the 1975 is insufferable isn’t he? Some bangers mind.” One person wrote: “I haven’t tweeted in over a year. However, I had to get this off my chest. The 1975 are shite and Matty Healy is insufferable. He’s trying his hardest to look like he’s a genuine rock star. They were never Glastonbury headliners and they’ve just proved us all right.”

Prior to the 1975’s performance this evening, a source told the Mirror that the band “pulled out all the stops” for their set. The source said: “Everyone was so blown away that Matty, Ross, George and Adam were headlining, but it’s no surprise given how loved they are universally.”

The source added: “They’ve played Glastonbury before, but this is the boys at their very best and then some. They’re one of the biggest bands in the world, and their tours sell out almost instantly, but to see them on the Pyramid Stage in the headline slot, nobody could have expected this.”

It was teased that fans could “expect a few surprises” during their set at Glastonbury this year. The source had told us: “Everyone behind the scenes has worked so hard to pull out all the stops – fans should expect a few surprises.”

Hazlewood takes five as Australia beat WI in first Test

Bridgetown, day three of the fifth test

Australia 180 (Head 59, Seales 5-60) &amp, 310 (Carey 65, Joseph 5-87)

West Indies 190 (Hope 48, Starc 3-65) &amp, 141 (Joseph 44, Hazlewood 5-43)

With 159 runs in hand, Australia took the series lead with a 1-0 win.

As Australia won the first Test in Barbados by 159 runs against West Indies, Josh Hazlewood claimed five wickets.

On day three of the third game, Australia showed their ruthlessness by closing the match with two days to spare, losing all ten of West Indies’ ten second-innings wickets in the evening session.

The hosts’ attack, which had already surpassed the early defeat of Kraigg Brathwaite, had a promising start, leading to a 47-1 victory for John Campbell and Keacy Carty.

Hazlewood’s run through the West Indies top order, which he sported during a remarkably controlled spell that resulted in four wickets falling for just nine runs, was the start of Australia’s momentum.

Even though Justin Greaves (38 not out) and Shamar Joseph (44 not out) provided some late entertainment, it was always going to be an uphill battle for West Indies from 56 to 5.

After a 30-minute delay, Nathan Lyon scored two wickets in the final over of the day to seal the victory over Hazlewood, Jomel Warrican, and Hazlewood defeated him to take 5-43.

After Alex Carey’s powerful 65, Australia had already posted a battling 310 in their second innings.

Hazlewood departs Sammy without any issues.

After the second day of play, West Indies coach Daren Sammy and match referee Javagal Srinath met to discuss concerns over some of the decisions made by TV umpire Adrian Holdstock.

Sammy claimed after the third game that he was furious at some of the South African’s use of the technology’s dismissals.

Sammy might have a few minor complaints in West Indies’ second innings, though.

Instead, the odd daft shot and smart bowling from an Australian attack that was long in the tooth proved West Indies’ fault.

Before Carty and Campbell stabilized the ship, Mitchell Starc made his first move to remove Kraigg Brathwaite.

When Carey was left with a straightforward catch after failing to make an attempted lap scoop against Hazlewood, the latter caused the West Indies to lose.

Brandon King was immediately dismissed by Hazlewood for a first-ball duck when Cameron Green claimed the catch at gully after he inside edged on his pad.

Roston Chase’s West Indies skipper gave him another inside edge before Sam Konstas’ grateful hands popped up in Sam Konstas’ arms during a short-leg.

Carty’s was completely knocked back by Hazlewood, who then returned to find Warrican caught at slip.

West Indies’ final over of the day was performed by Lyon, who did not disappoint with a four-seven-ball, Test-best 44 from 22 balls that Joseph had set the stage for.

We initially believed things could happen, but not that quickly, Hazlewood said, after West Indies won the second new ball today.

University of Virginia president resigns under US government pressure

Under pressure from the US Department of Justice, which pushed for the University of Virginia’s president’s resignation as president as a result of federal law’s discriminatory practices were investigated.

University President James Ryan announced his resignation in an email sent to the university community on Friday and shared on social media to prevent the institution from receiving the government’s ire.

In order to save my own job, he wrote, “I cannot unilaterally choose to fight the federal government.”

To do so would “not only be quixotic but also come across selfish and self-centered to the hundreds of employees who would lose their jobs, the researchers who would lose their funding, the hundreds of students who could lose financial aid or have their visas withheld,” he said.

Two sources told The New York Times, which first reported the story, that Ryan’s resignation has been accepted by the board. He will leave his post at this point, but it’s not yet clear when.

His departure is the most recent sign of growing tensions between President Donald Trump’s administration and the academic community.

President Trump has increasingly sought to reform higher education during his second term by challenging diversity initiatives, calling for sanctions against pro-Palestinian student protesters, and reviving hiring and enrollment practices.

Ryan’s departure marks a new frontier in a campaign that almost exclusively targets Ivy League institutions. Critics claim that it reflects a shift in the government’s rationale, shifting away from campus-wide allegations of rampant anti-Semitism to more aggressive policing of diversity initiatives.

The Justice Department made the announcement that another public school, the University of California, would be subject to a diversity standards investigation just one day prior.

Ryan, who has been in charge of the University of Virginia since 2018, was criticized for not complying with federal law’s DEI policies.

The Justice Department pushed his removal, according to an anonymous source, to expedite the resolution of an investigation involving the school.

Ryan’s ouster, according to Ted Mitchell, president of the American Council on Education, is an illustration of how the Trump administration uses “thuggery instead of rational discourse.”

More of the same is promised by Mitchell, who stated, “This is a dark day for the University of Virginia, a dark day for higher education.” The administration obviously has no plans to do so and will use all available means to exert its will over higher education.

Democratic senators in Virginia react

Virginia’s senators, both Democrats, called it outrageous in a joint statement that the Trump administration had demanded Ryan’s resignation for “culture war” traps.

Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner both claimed, “This is a mistake that threatens Virginia’s future.”

Trump signed an executive order in January calling for the end of federal funding for educational institutions with DEI programming after campaigning on a promise to end “wokeness” in education.

He claimed that without the parents’ consent, schools “indoctrinated” “children in radical, anti-American ideologies.”

Since then, the Department of Education has opened inquiries into dozens of colleges, alleging that diversity initiatives discriminate against students from white and Asian descent.

Schools have responded in a dispersed manner. Some organizations no longer require diversity statements when hiring, and some have shut down DEI offices. Still, other countries have continued to support diversity policies.

After conservative backers claimed the University of Virginia had changed its name, it quickly gained traction. In March, the school’s governing body decided to end diversity policies for admissions, hiring, financial aid, and other areas.

Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin praised the move, saying, “DEI is done at the University of Virginia.”

However, DEI was merely a new form of education, according to America First Legal, a conservative organization that was founded by Trump’s adviser Stephen Miller. The organization claimed in a letter to the Justice Department in May that the university had chosen to “rename, repackage, and redeploy the same unlawful infrastructure under a lexicon of euphemisms.”

Ryan joined hundreds of other college presidents in signing a statement outright condemning the Trump administration’s “overreach and political interference,” according to the group.

The organization stated on Friday that it will continue to make use of any and all available means to eradicate what it has termed discriminatory systems.

The group’s attorney, Megan Redshaw, stated in a statement that “public universities that accept federal funds do not have a license to violate the Constitution.” They are not permitted to defy lawful executive authority, impose race and sex-based preferences, or impose ideological loyalty tests.

The White House had focused its attention on Harvard University and other prestigious institutions, which Trump views as liberalism’s epicenter, for the most part.

In its legal battle with the government, which threatened to revoke its tax-exempt status and tried to stop Harvard from hosting foreign students, it has lost more than $2.6 billion in federal research grants.

Harvard and its $53 billion endowment are uniquely positioned to withstand the government’s financial strain.

Brooklyn Beckham ‘snubs’ David Beckham after hospital dash amid family feud

After choosing to ignore his 50th birthday celebrations last month, David Beckham and his eldest son Brooklyn have been having a family feud for weeks.

David Beckham and Brooklyn have been locked up in a domestic dispute.

Brooklyn Beckham has delivered the ultimate public snub by failing to address his dad’s injury online after his dad David Beckham was rushed to hospital. The former footballer, 50, is recovering in hospital with wife Victoria by his side and has since been discharged.

His dash to get medical help comes amid the family fallout that has affected the Beckham family. David’s eldest son Brooklyn, 26, has distanced himself from his parents and siblings after skipping all of the football icon’s birthday celebrations last month.

The rift continued as Brooklyn and wife Nicola stayed away from the parties despite being in the UK at the time. Brooklyn has since reportedly cut contact with his famous family and has publicly shown his support to his wife instead.

Brooklyn lacked a number of memorable moments to honor David’s long-awaited knighthood or Father’s Day. He promoted his sauce brand earlier today, but he hasn’t yet posted about David’s injury. Fans have received a new update from Victoria.

Victoria was the first to raise concern about David as she shared a snap of him lying in a hospital bed, with his arm in a sling. “Get well soon, Daddy,” she wrote over the snap of him smiling while wearing a hospital gown.

Additionally, she gave him a friendship bracelet forming “Get Well Soon” made of white beads. The former England star’s whereabouts are still a mystery to the couple.

However, it has since been reported that David underwent secret surgery to repair a broken wrist that he sustained 22 years ago – during a friendly football match against South Africa in 2003.

David recently revealed his long-running career left him with multiple injuries and years of “wear and tear”. He said: “Certain parts of my body were a real mess.”

As Brooklyn chose to stay silent on his family in recent weeks, he has been keen to show the love for wife Nicola. In a recent post on social media, Brooklyn teased in the caption that she’s his world.

He added the word “my” to an emoji that depicts the globe. He also emailed a heart emoji to the photo, saying, “My absolute angel.” He later went back to his page to message Sandra, David’s mother, about his disappearance.

He marked his grandmother’s birthday with a post with a picture of him standing next to her for the first time in a few weeks. Nanny xx loves you so much, wrote Brooklyn.

David also shared a gushing post of his own to celebrate his mother’s birthday, and made sure to give Brooklyn a nod. He captioned the tribute post: “Happy birthday mum we love you so much I hope u have the best day.

“Thank you for always being there for us all Love you, x @sandra_beckham49 @lynnebeckhambriggs1972 @jo_jo_beckham_ @victoriabeckham @brooklynpeltzbeckham @romeobeckham @cruzbeckham #HarperSeven”

Despite snubbing his own dad and mum’s birthdays this year on social media, Brooklyn made sure to wish Nicola’s father, Nelson, a happy birthday in a sweet post shared on his Stories this week. “Happy birthday, Nelson, we love you,” he wrote.
