Australia’s opposition scraps pledge to end remote work for public servants

In response to declining voter support, Australia’s main opposition party has abandoned election pledges to end remote working arrangements for public servants and fire tens of thousands of government employees.

The center-right Liberal Party leader, Peter Dutton, acknowledged on Monday that the proposals were “mistakes.”

In an interview with Channel Nine, Dutton said, “I think it’s important that we say and acknowledge it, and our intention was to make sure that where taxpayers are working hard and their money is being spent paying wages, it’s being spent efficiently.”

Former Queensland police officer Dutton had promised to eliminate 41, 000 positions from the public payroll and forbid government employees from working from the office five days a week.

Anthony Albanese, the prime minister of Australia, doubted his opponent’s all-out demeanor last month when he called a May 3 national election.

According to Albanese, “Peter Dutton wants to undermine work rights and, in particular, doesn’t understand contemporary families, doesn’t understand the crucial role that women and men play in family life,” he told reporters.

In recent polling, Albanese’s center-left Labor Party outperforms Dutton’s Liberal Party-led coalition, despite the close race.

Labor led the Coalition 52-48 in a head-to-head matchup in the most recent Newspoll survey, up one point from the previous poll.

The election campaign has been dominated by cost-of-living issues, including a severe housing affordability crisis.

Although the majority of the vote will likely go to Labor or the Coalition, polls have indicated that there is a high chance of a hung parliament.

Atiku, Obi, Others In Talks To Join SDP, Says Ex-Presidential Candidate

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former LP candidate Peter Obi are among the prominent politicians negotiating to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP). &nbsp,

Adewole Adebayo, the SDP’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, claims this.

Adebayo stated that the SDP, which recently welcomed a former Kaduna State governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, is in talks with Atiku and Obi’s men.

“We are welcoming the people who are joining my party. You can tell from the way I greet them. The only small issue with some of them is to alter the culture, which is what it means to be in a society where rules are not taken seriously,” the SDP chieftain said on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. &nbsp,

We are dealing with that because some of them are engaging in some Boy Scout and black market activities. But we welcome them back. El-Rufai, Atiku Abubakar, and even former governor Peter Obi are all scheduled to visit. We will welcome the arrival of many people.

Adebayo responded to a question regarding whether Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, is joining the SDP, saying, “Such, until someone joins, we don’t know.” However, I’ve been informed that they are speaking, and the Financial Secretary (SDP) has also. So we’ll all be welcome.

People applauded us transparently at our convention in 2022, with no court case, crisis, allegations, and we don’t become a tower of Babel. If we do that, people will follow the rules and allow one person to emerge without question, without cheating, without criminality.

We will defeat the APC and resign President Tinubu to Lagos or wherever he chooses, “if they stick to our culture, follow our approach to the SDP, and produce a good alternative to Nigerians.”

After receiving about six million votes, Obi, who has the support of millions of young Nigerians, came third in the most recent presidential election.

Bola Tinubu, the APC candidate, placed second in the poll taken by Atiku.

Gunmen Kill 13 Vigilantes In Kebbi State

At least 13 vigilante members were killed when Gunmen who are thought to be Lakurawa terrorists attacked Morai village in the Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

After being informed of an imminent attack, a local official, identified as Alhaji Augie, reported to Channels Television that the vigilantes had taken cover in nearby shrubs. The attackers attempted to rustle a herd of cattle, he claimed, when they arrived.

The vigilantes then launched an ambush to avenge the cattle and fend off the attackers.

Six bodies have been found, and others have been administered Islamic funeral rites, while the search is still being conducted for the dead.

‘Enough Is Enough,’ NSA Visits Plateau, Promises End To Killings

The Federal Government is determined to find a lasting solution to Plateau State’s ongoing attacks and killings, according to National Security Advisor (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu.

Ribadu made a promise to put an end to the killings while speaking at the state’s Bokkos Local Government Area LGA headquarters in Jos during an operational visit.

In attacks on five communities that left over three hundred houses burned by suspected herdsmen in a week, over fifty people were killed.

The Plateau State Government also made an official visit to some of the affected communities in the form of Samuel Jatau, the governor’s secretary, to find out the extent of the damage and provide relief supplies to the victims.

Adu emphasized the urgency of the Federal Government to stop the ongoing homicides and attacks.

The District Head of Manguna also wants the government to hire more security personnel in the affected areas to stop rural-urban migration in response to the killings.

Yohanna Michael, a member of the Hurti community in the area, described how, despite the fact that the search for the missing is still ongoing, over thirty people were interred in a community grave.

More than 700 people were displaced from their ancestral homes, and the government needs to intervene and send more security personnel there to help them return to their homes and continue farming.

‘Integral’ Rafferty closes in on 50 caps for NI

Press Eye

Tanya Oxtoby, the manager of Northern Ireland, describes Laura Rafferty as “integral” to their continued growth as she wraps up 50 caps.

Rafferty, a Rangers defender, will be eligible for the milestone if she plays on Friday night in Croatia’s opening Euro 2025 play-off game.

And Oxtoby heaped praise on the 28-year-old, who has also captained her country on numerous occasions recently.

“I always say about Raff, you know exactly what you’re going to get, she’s fully committed, gives 100% to the group and as a coach that is all you can ask for”, Oxtoby told BBC Sport NI.

We have a lot of tactical flexibility, they claim.

The Northern Ireland squad has undergone a number of changes since Bosnia-Herzegovina’s final Euro 2025 qualifier in July.

Former captain Marissa Callaghan and Glentoran’s Demi Vance are two high-profile omissions, with the likes of Joely Andrews, Nadene Caldwell, Caragh Hamilton and Kerry Beattie ruled out through injury.

Oxtoby reiterated that “the door will remain open” for their return despite the numerous adjustments, but believes the squad has enough experience and quality to overcome Croatia.

“Those conversations]on the absences] will remain private between myself and the players as I think that is respectful, they have been given feedback like every player does”, Oxtoby explained.

“We feel we have a great squad composition, we have a lot of tactically flexibility, so I feel like we’re in a really good place”.

After impressing for her club, Nat Johnson, Nottingham Forest defender, was pleased to join Oxtoby’s first squad since making her debut at Euro 2022.

“She’s fitted in really with this group, brought a lot of positive energy and really wants to be a sponge”, the manager added.

Magill “exemplifies” the leadership qualities that NI desire.

Simone Magill in action for Northern Ireland

Press Eye

Oxtoby also believes that new captain Simone Magill “epitomises” qualities she wants in an on-field leader.

Marissa Callaghan, who left the position in May, took over as Northern Ireland’s captain on Monday.

Simone epitomizes the qualities and traits we sought in our leadership team, according to Simone.

No matter who wears the armband, we have a great group of leaders in this group and we’re continuing to develop them, according to the players, who were a part of a really diligent process.

Northern Ireland will face the winner of the tie between Norway and Albania in Switzerland’s European Championships if they advance past Croatia.

Due to the absence of the Women’s Premiership players, the play-off will take place in December, which opens a new ambiguous window for Oxtoby.

The manager is happy to have a season window open for players from Northern Ireland and England and Scotland and for those who have just finished their studies.

“We’re going to be back in that difficult position in the next window, but we’re in a good position in this one.”
