Gary Lineker’s ‘weird’ set-up with ex-wife – but her husband ‘doesn’t mind’

Gary Lineker is one of the most famous faces on UK television and has been the face of Match of the Day for 25 years – but away from work, he has an unusual living arrangement

Despite facing two divorces in the public eye, Gary Lineker has maintained a unique relationship with one of his ex-wives – and her husband isn’t phased in the slightest.

The Match of the Day presenter, 64, is a familiar face on TV due to his illustrious football career and punditry role. The veteran host is set to wrap up his MOTD tenure at the end of this season, but will remain with the BBC until the end of the 2026 World Cup. In an interview ahead of his official departure, Lineker suggested that BBC chiefs made their feelings clear on his exit after a whopping 25-year stint on the flagship programme.

Speaking in an interview with the channel, he said: “It’s time [to leave]. I’ve done it for a long time. It’s been brilliant. It’s been great.” He added: “Well, perhaps they want me to leave. There was the sense of that, yes. I’ve got another year and I’m going to do the FA Cup and World Cup and they’re taking our podcast now, the Match of the Day Top Ten, as well as The Rest Is Football that I do with Alan [Shearer] and Micah [Richards].”

Away from work, Lineker, who earns £1.35 million per year from the corporation, spends time at his London home with his four sons. The former England striker has been married twice and shares all his children with his first wife, Michelle Cockayne, whom he wed in 1986 and divorced two decades later.

In 2007, the star began dating Danielle Bux, who was 20 years his junior, and they later married in Italy. But their marriage only lasted six years before the pair announced they were splitting in early 2016, reportedly due to their differing opinions on starting a family.

In 2019, Gary explained: “Danielle and I are best mates, we still speak three times a day, we text all the time. When she comes to London, she stays with me, and when I go to LA, I see her. “

The Leicester icon has since been single and has candidly opened up about his dating life. Back in 2021, he claimed to be unbothered about intimacy anymore, conceding he was at an age where his testosterone levels had dropped. More recently, he has insisted he doesn’t miss being married and is content that his working life and sons occupy the bulk of his time.

In an interview with The Times, Gary said: “I like being on my own… I don’t feel lonely. I have the odd date here and there, but nothing, not in terms of a long relationship. I’ve been married most of my adult life. Two really good marriages, I’m friends with both.”

The pundit described his second wife Danielle as his ‘best mate’ and refused to comment on his sex life. He insisted: “I am still single. I am not going down that route! I have been there before and tried to explain myself and I got slaughtered by my friends.” Gary also denied ever using dating apps and refused to let his sons set up an online profile for him.

After Gary and Danielle split, she went on to marry Nate Greenwald, an American entertainment lawyer, in 2019 and the couple welcomed their now-four-year-old daughter, Romy. Although, the exes still come together with their families. Last Christmas, Danielle posted a photo with Gary alongside her eldest daughter Ella, who she shares with a former partner Adam Willis.

She captioned the photo “Our annual Christmas dinner”, and Gary shared the picture with the comment, “Always a delight”. The sports presenter previously explained how he continues to keep in touch with his ex and Danielle’s current husband never gets ‘jealous’ of their relationship.

“He’s not got a jealous bone in his body,” Gary said to the Radio Times. “We get on really well. We go out for dinner when I’m in LA. It might be unusual and people might go, ‘That’s weird’ but, frankly, I don’t care. What is normal? Is it better to get divorced and end up fighting, screaming and shouting? Or is it better to get on if you can?”

Boulter feeling ‘no pressure’ in British battle

Getty Images

Katie Boulter says she is not feeling any pressure as she battles to keep the British number one ranking with Emma Raducanu and Sonay Kartal closing in.

Boulter, 28, has been the nation’s leading women’s player since June 2023, but has dropped down the world rankings in a stop-start season.

Having reached a career high 23rd in November, Boulter is now 40th after winning five of her 10 matches this year.

Raducanu is up to 49th after reaching the Miami quarter-finals last month, while Kartal’s rapid rise has moved her up to 60th.

“I don’t feel any pressure at all,” Boulter told BBC Sport.

“I’m very comfortable in the seat that I am and I know that every single person has a different journey and my journey is not going to be compared to anyone else’s – I’m proud of that.

Boulter starts her clay-court swing on Tuesday when she plays Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic in the Madrid Open first round.

The Briton’s experience on clay is still limited, having only played four top-level main-draw matches on the surface.

After winning one and losing one of her BJK Cup singles matches last week on indoor clay in the Netherlands, Boulter went to Alicante – where her fiancé Alex de Minaur has long been based – for a training week.

She decided that was the sensible option – instead of squeezing in another WTA clay-court event before Madrid – as she continues to manage a foot injury.

The issue has left her only able to play five tournaments this season, missing almost two months of the WTA Tour between the Australian Open in January and Indian Wells in March.

“I want to see the girls going higher and higher [in the rankings], but personally I have my own goals and try to focus on those a lot,” added Boulter, who secured GB’s place in the BJK Cup Finals alongside Jodie Burrage in the deciding doubles.

“For me I just need to try and stay healthy. That’s that most important thing and then the ranking will take care of itself.

“Obviously I’ve dropped a little bit from last year but due to the fact I’ve not been able to play.

Josie Gibson reveals her exact weight as she shares shock gout diagnosis

Josie Gibson was given some cold hard truths about her lifestyle as she took part in a new TV show where she road tested a 1970s diet

ITV ScreengrabThis Morning star Josie Gibson reveals debilitating illness that affects her everyday life(Image: ITV)

Drinking champagne, eating in Michelin-starred restaurants and flying by private jet might sound like the best way to live – but it left Josie Gibson facing a health crisis. After filming her Channel 5 travelogue Around The World In First Class, Josie Gibson went for a health MOT ahead of her next TV challenge The 1970s Diet.

And the results were not good – blood tests showed Josie was suffering from gout.

“I kept saying to the nurse ‘My toes keep hurting’,” explains Josie, 40. “I thought gout was only for old men but I have been living quite a lavish life. Before I filmed this show, I caught a lot of flights, I drank a lot of champagne, I ate a lot of rich food and I had little sleep. That’s how I ended up getting gout. ”

Luckily there is a lot less luxury involved in Josie’s new series The 1970s Diet, which sees her swap fancy restaurants for boiled potatoes, liver and spam. “I’ve come from one extreme to the other,” laughs Josie. “I went from living my finest life ever to being brought down to earth with a bang. ”

The 1970s Diet sees Josie immerse herself in the food, drink and health culture of the 1970s to see if our lifestyles were actually healthier back then. Back in 1970 only around 10% of British people were classified as obese – a figure that has now tripled. “I was surprised by that,” says Josie. “I think of the 1970s and I think of madeira cake, trifles, angel delight… it doesn’t scream healthy – not to me! ”

A nutritionist was on hand to give Josie an authentic meal plan with smaller 1970s portions – and even a smaller authentic 1970s dinner plate. However, when she saw the food she was expected to eat, Josie feared it would make her gain weight – and she didn’t like the look of tripe or liver. “There were a lot of carbs on the menu,” she says. “I thought looking at the diet, I’d definitely put on weight. ”

However, it’s not just menus that were different in the 1970s, people were also a lot more active because they were walking more and doing housework without gadgets and many were working a vegetable patch.

Josie Gibson shared her weight loss journey

To measure her results on the show, Josie travels to Kingston University to have her body fat and weight recorded. Josie has always struggled with her weight, yo-yoing between a size eight and a size 22. It’s a brave thing to find out on national TV that you weigh 16 stones (102 kilos), and are 48 percent fat but Josie was happy to jump on the scales for the sake of the experiment.

“If I’m taking on this experiment, then I’m showing it all, that’s the experiment,” says Josie. “If you don’t show the experiment, what’s the point? ”

And she was pleased when her fitness level came back as superior. “It was nice to know that even though I was overweight, I was at a supreme fitness level,” says Josie. “I was expecting to have a low fitness level, even though I’ve always exercised. But he was like, ‘No, you’re at a superior fitness rate. ’”

Indeed on the show, Josie jumps on an exercise bike and barely breaks a sweat as she pedals at speed. It’s something that perplexes Josie, who says she has tried every diet going. “I’m one of the most on the go people I’ve ever met,” she says, “but my size doesn’t fit with my activity. It never has. I do not stop. I’ve got friends that are really slim and I’m thinking, ‘I run rings around you! ’ Sometimes I think, ‘Is it fair? ’ but we’re all different. I am fit but I am also overweight. ”

For Josie, she’s just glad she’s in good health – well now her gout has cleared up. “As soon as I stopped catching all the flights and started drinking a bit more water and less champagne, it leveled itself out,” says Josie.

Josie got more exercise on the show, walking to her local greengrocer and butcher with her wheeled shopping bag most days, with a daily 1970s step count to hit.

She even joined a disco-themed exercise group and enjoyed 1970s fashion on the show. However, when Josie went shopping for vintage clothes she was saddened to discover that dress sizes in the 70s were much smaller and that the clothes she’d chosen didn’t fit. After she learned that clothes shops now make their smaller sizes bigger so they don’t upset their customers.

“I think 1970s fashion was my favorite era,” says Josie. “It’s so gorgeous. When I got down there, I picked up my sizes that I am and went to the changing rooms and I was absolutely devastated. I didn’t know about vanity sizing. ”

Josie feels at her happiest when she can fit into size 12-14 clothes. However, she isn’t tempted to alter her weight by using weightloss injections such as Wegovy.

Though she admits many of her friends are using weightloss jabs. “If something new comes out, I am not one to sign myself up for it first,” says Josie. “I will sit back and watch what happens. ”

Having said that, Josie isn’t one to judge others. “If you know about the side effects and then you want to weigh it up, that is down to you,” says Josie. “It seems like everyone’s on it and I know lots of people that are on it. ”

You’ll have to watch The 1970s Diet to find out if Josie lost weight on the diet but it’s certainly inspired her to make some changes to her life. Firstly she wants to be more involved in her local community, and secondly she wants to do more walking – which she says will benefit her seven-year-old son Reggie too. “What I realised about Reg is he is a bit lazy,” says Josise. “I’m like, ‘Reg, come on, let’s walk up the shop. ’ And he’s like, ‘No, mum, can we take the car? ’ We have kept trying to keep at the walking but I’ve got to really gear him up. ”

Immersing herself in 1970s culture made Josie realise how important the family unit was back then. As a single mum, Josie doesn’t have the luxury of a supportive husband. “It has really opened my eyes. Back then I think the man needed the woman, and the woman needed the man,” says Josie. “I love the fact that I can have a career but relationships in the 70s I suppose they stuck together because they needed each other more. They were more solid as a family. ”

However, Josie insists she doesn’t have time to date saying, “It wouldn’t be fair. ”

Instead she’s pitching her next TV show – and she wants to investigate biohacking.

“I would like to do a biohacking experiment,” says Josie. “I would love to do that. I don’t know whether I should have given my idea but I’d like to experiment being a biohacker. You’ve got to be careful being a biohacker because there is so much stuff. How do you know what’s good and what’s bad?

Meghan Markle lifts lid on real reason she dramatically changed name of lifestyle brand

Meghan Markle has spoken out on why she decided to change the name of her lifestyle brand, saying the old name became ‘word salad’ adding: “I didn’t love that so much. ” . In the latest episode of her new podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, the Duchess of Sussex chats to celebrity hair colourist Kadi Lee, who is also a good friend of Meghan’s.

Kadi has co-founded the salon and haircare brand Highbrow Hippie – and the pair chatted about picking an all important name for a business. Over a year ago, Meghan originally introduced her lifestyle brand with the name American Riviera Orchard, launching both a website and an Instagram account for it. However, earlier this year, she made a dramatic U-turn and announced the brand would now be called As Ever.

Meghan had faced setbacks trying to trademark the American Riviera Orchard name. However, in the latest podcast she tells Kadi that she “didn’t love” the previous name when it became “word salad”.

She explained: “I had secured As Ever as a name in 2022, and then as everything started to evolve last year, and bringing in a partner the size that it was, it was just so interesting. You remember, I said, ‘I like American Riviera as an umbrella,’ and then be able to have verticals beneath it.

“And maybe have the ‘Orchard’ really small. But when that’s not feasible, suddenly it became this word salad. I didn’t love that so much. “I was like, ‘OK, let’s go back to the thing that I’ve always loved. Let’s use the name that I protected for a reason that had sort of been under wraps’.

“And then we were able to focus in the quiet and put our heads down and build on something that no one was sniffing around to even see about. It was really just helpful to have that quiet period. “

Meghan revealed her lifestyle brand name change in a video earlier this year

Meghan revealed the change to her business name earlier this year in an Instagram video: “Last year, I had thought ‘You know what, American Riviera, that sounds like such a great name, it’s my neighbourhood, it’s a nickname for Santa Barbara’, but it limited me to things that were just manufactured and grown in this area. Then Netflix came on, not just as my partner in the show, but as my partner in my business, which was huge. “

Meghan greeted Kadi in the episode by saying: “Disregard the state of my hair right now. I’m so excited I’m seeing you next week. I should have a baseball cap on. ” The duchess said the pair met in 2020 – the year of Megxit when Meghan and the Duke of Sussex quit the working monarchy for a new life in the US – and told of her attempts to dye her own hair at home during the pandemic.

The duchess, who invested in her friend’s brand said: “It was 2020 – it was very much 2020. ” She added: “My family had just moved to California. We were staying in our friend’s home and, because it was the pandemic, I kept ordering boxed hair dye, and I thought I’m gonna look just like she does on the box. And instead it was this very inky, almost Elvira-esque black hair. “

Lee, who was called in at the time to help Meghan with her hair, said: “I remember meeting you guys, and you were so warm and both you and H wrapped us up in these big bear hugs and I was like ‘I don’t even know these people and I’m not a hugger but let’s do it’. “

Reflecting on having to close her hair salon during the pandemic, Lee added: “It felt like such whiplash and it felt like, gosh we cannot get a break, you know? ” Meghan laughed and added: “Oh, I understand. “

Meghan has already released two previous episodes of her new eight-part podcast with Lemonada Media, which promises “girl talk” and advice on how to create “billion-dollar businesses”. It follows the duchess’s much-criticised Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan and her new brand As Ever, which sold out of its first batch of raspberry spread, flower sprinkles and herbal tea.

In th first episode, she chatted to Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of the dating app Bumble. During the chat, Meghan talked about her experiences of being a mum and revealed she suffered from a ‘huge medical scare’ after giving birth. She explained: “We both had very similar experiences — though we didn’t know each other at the time — with postpartum, and we both had preeclampsia. Postpartum preeclampsia. It’s so rare and so scary.

Meghan added: “And you’re still trying to juggle all of these things, and the world doesn’t know what’s happening quietly. And in the quiet, you’re still trying to show up for people – mostly for your children — but those things are huge medical scares. ” Whitney replied: “I mean life or death, truly. ” Postpartum preeclampsia is a rare condition that causes high blood pressure after birth.

Meanwhile, last week, Meghan spoke to Reshma Saujani, founder of the not-for-profit Girls Who Code, where she touched on her experience of miscarriage and having to “let something go that you plan to love for a long time”. Meghan had a miscarriage in July 2020, when her eldest child Archie was one, revealing her heartbreak in an article for The New York Times later that year.

The duchess told Ms Saujani, who faced a series of miscarriages due to an autoimmune disease: “The miscarriages that you’ve experienced. I’ve spoken about the miscarriage that we experienced. And I think, in some parallel way, when you have to learn to detach from the thing that you have so much promise and hope for, and to be able to be OK at a certain point to let something go, something go that you plan to love for a long time. “

Gaza’s Christians mourn death of Pope Francis

Gaza’s small Christian community is mourning the death of Pope Francis, who had maintained close and consistent video contact with the Palestinian devotees throughout the war that continues to devastate the enclave.

Since the outbreak of fighting between Israel and Hamas in October 2023, Francis had regularly called Gaza’s Christians, often several times a week, offering prayers, encouragement and solidarity.

“I always waited to hear the words of the Holy Father. I would watch him on television, and through the screens. He gave us hope with his messages and prayers,” said Elias al-Sayegh, 49, from Zeitoun.

“We felt we were alive because of his prayers and blessings. Every day, he renewed our hope for an end to the war and the bloodshed. His prayers will remain with us for peace in the land of peace, Palestine. ”

“I wish I could take part in the prayers at the Church of the Nativity and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre,” he added, referring to ancient churches in Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.

“With the pope’s passing, we in Gaza feel as though a light of love and peace has been extinguished,” said 67-year-old George Ayad from al-Sahaba.

“Though the Vatican is far away, his voice always reached our hearts – he never ceased calling for peace and justice.

Skins cast now from Hollywood lovers to co-star rifts and dangerous cults

Skins purposefully cast relatively unknown teens to take on edgy roles, and in the years since, stars including Nicholas Hoult, Dev Patel and Hannah Murray have enjoyed varied fortunes

The cast of Skins has headed in many different directions after finishing the show, with one even quitting acting completely

Skins made a huge splash when it came out on E4 in 2007. The show, following teenage friendship groups as they navigated sixth form in Bristol, was beloved by fans for its hilarious moment and emotional twists.

It was also very controversial, with some parents bemoaning that it ‘glorified’ sex, drugs, and the party lifestyle. Despite the debate, the Channel 4 show ran until 2013, featuring three generations of teens and even returning for a special 7th season revealing what some of the fan-favourite characters got up to after graduating into the world at large.

Skins won numerous awards, including Best TV Show at the 2011 NME Awards, and catapulted some of its cast into major Hollywood stardom – while some of the cast have also admitted that they’re not as tight-knit as they seemed on screen.

Many fans have slammed seasons five and six, which followed the third generation, claiming the storylines, characters, and acting all went to pot. Loyal followers dub the first two groups as the ‘originals’ – and this is what those originals are up to today.

Dev Patel – Anwar Kharral

Dev Patel is one of the Season One stars who took his role and ran with it, and is now a household name and famous heartthrob. The actor landed the role of goofy Anwar without any previous professional acting experience, and filmed throughout his A-Levels.

Anwar was one of the nicest characters in the show, acting as the perfect Muslim boy for his family while also enjoying plenty of partying with his friends. He went to audition after seeing a casting ad in the Metro, and impressed the bosses so much that they wrote Anwar for him specifically and based some of his personality on Dev himself.

Dev wasn’t even done with Skins by the time his talent was spotted, and spent the second season flying back and forth from India to film Danny Boyle’s box office hit Slumdog Millionaire, which bagged eight Oscars at the 2009 Academy Awards.

An appearance in The Best Exotic Marigold hotel followed, before securing a role in Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom and the ‘porn drama’ About Cherry, cast alongside James Franco and Heather Graham. His work hasn’t slowed down, with starring roles in The Green Knight, Monkey Man, and anthology series Modern Love.

Daniel Kaluuya – Posh Kenneth

Right alongside Dev as one of the British stars taking over Hollywood is Daniel Kaluuya. The Londoner played Posh Kenneth in Skins – a wannabe rapper who couldn’t hide his very RP accent. Posh Kenneth wasn’t a key character of the main crew, but alongside acting the role Daniel also served as a contributing writer during the first two series, even being the head writer for two episodes.

Following on from Skins, Daniel appeared on TV in Silent Witness and Doctor Who, as well as Black Mirror episode Fifteen Million merits. Beyond TV, he’s a major face on the big screen. He featured as Agent Colin Tucker in the 2011 film Johnny English Reborn, was Black Death in Kick-Ass 2.

Daniel has been on the up ever since, having played a supporting role in 2015’s Sicario, before leaving us all terrified as the victim in horror movie Get Out in 2018. He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance and received the BAFTA Rising Star Award.

The actor then entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing tribe leader W’Kabi in Black Panther in 2018. He also played a role associated with the real Black Panther Party movement in the 2021 biopic Judas and the Black Messiah, snagging both a BAFTA and an Oscar.

Nicholas Hoult – Tony Stonem

Tony Stonem thought he was the bees knees and had the world at his feet until a road accident brought him down to earth with a crash. Season Two charted the aftermath, as Tony struggled tried to overcome his life-changing injuries while trying to patch up his relationships with his friends and family.

After Skins finished, Nicholas Hoult made a very swift transition into movies with a big screen role alongside Colin Firth in the 2009 drama A Single Man. After appearing in Clash of the Titans, he got his biggest role to date as Hank McCoy (aka The Beast) in the new X-Men franchise.

His first time out as The Beast came in 2011’s X-Men: First Class, but was followed by Days Of Future Past, Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. Nicholas has secured plenty of other big money blockbusters, including Jack the Giant Slayer and paranormal romantic comedy, Warm Bodies.

Nicholas also starred alongside Tom Hardy in the Mad Max reboot, and played J. R. R. Tolkien in 2019’s Tolkien. Up next, he’s playing Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman – and is fresh off the set of the critically acclaimed Nosferatu. He’s also had plenty to celebrate behind the scenes, welcoming two children with his wife Bryana Holly. He previously dated his X-Men co-star Jennifer Lawrence.

Hannah Murray – Cassie Ainsworth

Hannah Murray played Cassie Ainsworth on Skins – a fan-favourite who won many fans with her kooky personality. The teen sadly suffered from a crippling eating disorder and other mental health issues.

She had an on-off romance with Sid, who went all the way to New York to find her after she moved, with fans praying for them to become a couple from the start. In season seven, it’s revealed that Cassie moved to London following her time in America, and lived with flatmates while working as a waitress.

Actress Hannah initially turned to the stage for post-Skins success, making her debut as Mia in the West End production, That Face. After that she moved over to film, appearing in the teen horror-drama Chatroom and working with Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows.

Her biggest role to date has been as wildling Gilly in Game of Thrones – becoming one of the longest-serving characters in a show known for killing everyone off. After having a recurring role as Samwell Tarly’s girlfriend she became part of the main cast for the final four seasons. While promoting her memoir Make-Believe, which is yet to be released, she revealed that she was sectioned in 2017 after being lured into a wellness cult, which severely impacted her mental health.

Joe Dempsie – Chris Miles

Chris met a very tragic end

Joe Dempsie is yet another Skins alum to become a superstar, after having his first role as party boy Chris. The character was even more drug-addled than his mates, and was a magnet for trouble as well as women. Fans were gutted when Chris’ life came to a tragic end, dying of a hereditary brain condition before even finishing sixth form.

Unlike most of the others, Joe had a couple of acting credits before he was cast in Skins – but it wasn’t until playing Chris that he found his big break. After the show, Joe went on to star in Doctor Who, Merlin, and This Is England, and made the jump to the silver screen in football film The Damned United, and soon got bigger roles in shows cuch as Adult Material and Toxic Town.

Things peaked in 2011, when he joined co-star Hannah in getting a role in Game of Thrones. Joe played Gendry, the illegitimate son of King Robert Baratheon – meaning he had a strong claim to the Iron Throne. His character became a meme after going off in a rowing boat at the end of season 3 and not returning for another four years – when he reconnected with Arya Stark and helped her family to win the war against the Night King.

April Pearson – Michelle Richardson

April Pearson played Michelle in the first two series

April Pearson won a Golden Nymph for her work as Michelle, nicknamed “nips” by boyfriend Tony. Michelle contended with her mum’s string of ever-changing husbands alongside Tony’s narcissism, but got back with Tony after his car accident.

After Skins ended, April made her film debut in comedy horror slashes Tormented in 2009 before moving into theatre roles. April then transitioned into horror and independent films – and has also appeared as three different characters on Casualty.

Discussing whether she still sees her former co-stars, Michelle suggested that they weren’t as close as they seemed, with some having left the others behind. She told NME: “Oh no, they’re Hollywood stars now. I think a lot of them do still hang out, but I don’t see them as much as I would like to. When Skins finished I wasn’t ready to jump straight into moving to London and going to auditions all the time, so I took a bit of time. “

Mike Bailey – Sid Jenkins

Mike Bailey played lovable Sid

Dorky Sid started off as a desperate lad trying to lose his virginity and hanging onto Tony’s coattails, but quickly became a fan favourite. Almost everybody could relate to Sid’s inability to conform to teenage expectations without getting sweaty palms or falling over himself.

Following on from Skins, Mike appeared in Channel 4 drama 1066: The Battle for Middle Earth as well as teen comedy We Are The Freaks in 2012. The Bristolian got married in June 2015 – and it’s believed some of his Skins co-star were there to celebrate.

Unlike the others, Mike doesn’t act at all anymore. Instead, he quit the industry in 2017 and took a drama degree. From there, he went through teacher training, and gave up the spotlight to be a high school drama teacher and train the next generation.

Danny Dyer – Malcolm

Some people might not remember that EastEnders alum Danny Dyer was in the first series of Skins. The Football Factory star played the idiotic Malcolm, who was married to Michelle’s cougar mum. Toyboy Malcolm was often sat around eating Coco Pops and would get into rows with step daughter Michelle, who was closer in age to him than his wife.

The marriage became strained due to Malcolm’s schemes, which included buying boxes of ornament giraffes and sausage dogs, so they got a divorce. Danny, of course, was already very well-known before joining Skins, but has gone on to become a national treasure, starring in a host of British TV shows and calling out politicians on live TV.

Cook was much like the Chris of the second generation, always getting into ridiculous or downright dangeorus situations with his buddies the ‘Three Musketeers.’ Jack O’Connell returned to the role for the follow-up adult series where Cook was nearly killed while living life as a hard-up drug dealer in Manchester.

The actor has gone on to have one of the most successful careers of anyone that appeared in the show. In 2009, Jack starred in hard-hitting vigilante thriller Harry Brown alongside Michael Caine, who named him as a “star of the future”.

He played Bobby Charlton in TV film United in 2011 and an Athenian warrior in 300: Rise of an Empire. He starred in Angelina Jolie’s war epic Unbroken in 2014, receiving much praise and a BAFTA Rising Star Award. More recently, he lead the cast in the BBC series SAS: Rogue Heroes, and his latest film Sinners – also starring US actor Michael B Jordan – is in cinemas now.

Effy Stonem made her debut in the first two series of skins as Tony’s little sister, before becoming a main character in the next two seasons. A seemingly quiet teen, she lived a double life – transforming into a troubled night-owl, partying beyond her tender years once the clock struck midnight.

Kaya Scodelario is known for being one of Skins’ youngest cast members, auditioning for the role with no prior acting experience when she was just 14. Kaya originally feared she was too young and almost left, but bosses saw her talent and encouraged her to read for the part.

She made her film debut in sci-fi thriller Moon in 2009 before appearing in the Hollywood blockbuster remake of Clash of the Titans. Things have only got better from there as Kaya has become a Hollywood mainstay as well as modelling for Teen Vogue, Nylon, Instyle UK, Elle UK and Vogue.

The actress starred in all three films in the Maze Runner trilogy and alongside Johnny Depp in the latest Pirate of th Caribbean movie – Dead Men Tell No Tales. She even returned to the series that made her as an adult Effy in Skins’ special Fire episode. In real life, Kaya now shares two daughters with Benjamin Walker, from whom she split in early 2024.

An all-round heart-throb, skateboarder Freddie proved to have a heart of gold. He was taken by Effy from the moment he met her at college, causing havoc when a love triangle emerged between himself and Cook for her affections.

Luke Pasqualino’s time on Skins came to an abrupt end when Freddie was brutally murdered in a gory scene that still haunts viewers to this day. After that shocking exit from Skins, Luke went on to have a very successful acting career.

He went on to star in Warner Bros. horror movie, The Apparition, alongside Harry Potter’s Tom Felton and Twilight’s Ashley Greene. In 2013 he starred in post-apocalyptic thriller, Snowpiercer, featuring Tilda Swinton, John Hurt and Chris Evans. While there have also been appearances in Casualty, Miranda and as D’Artagnan in BBC One drama, The Musketeers. Luke’s most famous role came as Michelle Keegan’s love interest Elvis in Our Girl, who also had a tear-jerking death.

Katie and Emily were the identical twins sisters with very different personalities. Dominant sister Katie was often mean to her twin, claiming she was more popular and better with boys. She was also furious that Katie started a relationship with Emily and was deeply homophobic to her sister’s girlfriend Naomi.

The real-life twin sisters have gone their separate ways after Skins, and Kathryn previously vowed never again to work with her sister following the series. In an interview in 2010, she admitted they found it appearing in TV shows together and prefer to have separate careers.

“It is trying working with Megan because it’s very full on,” she told The Sun in 2010. “We’re not very close twins – we went to separate schools and never wanted to do the twin thing in our careers, but Skins was too good an opportunity to miss. Now we will definitely go our separate ways again.”
