French Climber Dies On Kanchenjunga, World’s Third-Highest Mountain

A 63-year-old French climber has died trying to scale the world’s third-highest mountain, Kanchenjunga, the expedition’s organiser said on Monday.

Margareta Morin died above Camp 4 of the 8,586-metre (28,169 feet) Himalayan mountain on Saturday.

“She died due to health complications while ascending,” Yogendra Tamang of Peak 15 Adventure told AFP.

“We are not yet able to bring back the body due to bad weather conditions.”

Kanchenjunga, the third-highest mountain after Mount Everest and K2, is regarded as one of the most technically demanding among the world’s 8,000-metre peaks.

It was the third death in the spring climbing season, which runs from April to early June.

Last week, an American climber died while attempting Mount Makalu, the fifth-highest mountain in the world.

An Austrian climber died while descending Nepal’s 6,812-metre Ama Dablam last month.

Nepal is home to eight of the world’s 10 highest peaks and welcomes hundreds of climbers every year during the spring and autumn climbing seasons.

It has already issued over 1,000 permits for its mountains this season, including 75 for Kanchenjunga.

2027: Zoning PDP Presidential Ticket To North Will Backfire — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that zoning the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party to the North will fail.

Wike stated this during a media chat on Monday.

He explained that it would not be smart for the opposition party to zone its presidential ticket to the North in 2027 if the ruling All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate would come from the South.

The minister said, “Why not, as a party, come out openly now (and say) our presidential candidate will also come from the South? You don’t want to do that; you want to play the same game you played in 2023. It will backfire, and when it backfires, you will say these people did this, these people did that.

“I have told people: this smartness will not help you. Come out now and let everybody know this is where we are heading. This is not the time to send the presidency to the North. No.”

He added, “The point is that selfishness can kill a system. If Mr President runs, for example, and wins in 2027, by 2031, the APC will zone their presidential ticket to the North. The PDP will do what then?

“Then you’ll come back and say, since the APC has zoned it to the North, let’s keep it in the North. What kind of smartness is that?”

The former governor of Rivers State, while speaking about the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, said that the party’s system was manipulated for selfish interest.

“In 2023, we told the party, ‘Look, it is in our constitution, when a zone produces the chairman, another zone produces the presidential candidate’.

“Because of their selfish interest, they manipulated the system. They said we shouldn’t do zoning now. Before we knew (it), some people had gone to buy the form,” he added.

On the recent defection of some members of the party, including the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, to the APC, Wike said, “How many times have they (PDP leaders) made efforts? How many people have they wooed? Rather, every day, you’re after one man; every day, you’re after Wike.”

The PDP has been entangled in an internal crisis that began with the disagreement over the zoning of its presidential ticket in 2023 and worsened with the recent defection of the Delta governor, members of the state House of Assembly, and some federal lawmakers.

Malawian cricket is in mourning after the death of top official Arjun Menon on Saturday night.

A statement from the Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) said that the 48-year-old had been “brutally murdered” at his residence in Blantyre.

Local police in the Southern African nation are yet to issue a statement following Menon’s death.

Menon, a wicketkeeper who represented Singapore five times at senior level, was the operations manager of Cricket Malawi.

MNCS chief executive Dr Henry Kamata said Menon’s contributions to the sport were “immense and far-reaching” and that he had played a “pivotal role” in the growth and success of the national side.

“We strongly condemn this heartless act of violence and urge law enforcement authorities to pursue all leads to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice,” Dr Kamata added in a statement posted on social media.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Arjun’s family, friends, the cricket community, and all those affected by this tragic loss.”

Menon had previously coached Singapore and also had stints in Chile, Botswana and Indonesia.

“Arjun was more than a coach; he was a mentor, leader, and an embodiment of Singaporean values of excellence, humility, and service,” a statement from the Singapore Cricket Association said.

Not sure ai would buy it again.”

Alex simply quipped: “Lonely,” as Greg added: “Oh god, the horrible hot lonely tears.” The Cleaner star was in a relationship with Labour Party politician Liz Kendall between 2007 and 2015. The comedian usually keeps his personal life under wraps.

Liz told previously The Mirror about their romance: “I am not going to be the sort of politician who does all that stuff about their private life because it’s very precious to me and really important to me that I have that space that’s personal and just to me. We are not together any more but we remain really good friends.”

Meanwhile, Greg tends to make jokes about his single life and previously said he ‘gave up’ on romance while on The Graham Norton Show.

During the interview, he admitted his grandfather accidentally walked in on him and a girlfriend during an intimate moment. He joked: “It’s not for me, romance… that was the day I gave up on romance.”

He also once said his ex-girlfriend, who he didn’t name, convinced him to switch from his teaching career to one in comedy. Speaking to The Times, he said: “I’ve been doing comedy for about 15 years now. I always wanted to do it, I just never had thick enough skin.

“A girlfriend I had while teaching was a pragmatist and always told me that if you want to do something, then go for it. So eventually I made the switch. Comedy is definitely where I’m happiest.”

During an interview with OK! magazine, Greg admitted that he had quite the crush on former Blue Peter star Janet Ellis, who also happens to be the mother of popstar Sophie Ellie Bextor.

Mortified Greg recalled: “I met Janet Ellis once in a fish and chip shop. I used to have a terrible crush on her, all throughout my childhood. Then I finally met her and said something humiliating, I think chips-based, that guaranteed I would never end up in the relationship I craved.”

He added: “I met her daughter Sophie on a show once and told her I fancied her mum and she rolled her eyes and said ‘everyone does’.”
